4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2017

When it's raining or wet snow outside the van starts to chug. This causes the vehicle to have loss of power and it becomes jerky. The engine light starts to flash. It only does this when it's wet outside- it happens on the freeway, dirt roads, paved in town roads. . . . I'm sure it is the electrical box under the hood getting wet from a manufacture overlook- I've read this was an issue and because it hasn't caused a death it's not something Ford has to fix? I have children and I will not allow my family to be a loss because of a manufacture issue. Ford should be paying for the fix.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2015

Because of a recall letter we took it in to uptown Ford for the torque converter replacement on 09/05/2014. The repairs were completed. On 06/29/2015 while driving on a highway in pewaukee, with our four small children in the back, the van lost forward and reverse power and could have easily, but fortunately did not, resulted in a crash; the engine continued to run, steering and braking were unaffected and the electrical system remained functional. I was able to have to van towed right away to our local mechanics shop that day (6/29/15). The following day (06/30/2015) I called uptown to see if they could take a look at it because that was where to recall replacement was performed. Fred in the repairs department said he couldn't look at it until July 8th and then the repair would take up to a week to complete if it was the transmission/torque converter. They had rental cars for $13-35/day, but did not have any vans or something that would accommodate our whole family (4 car seats). I called the # for Ford from the recall letter to get some guidance r. E. This problem. I spoke to jackie. She said that if it was an issue with the torque converter it would only be covered if the van was within 12 months of the recall replacement or within 12,000 miles. It was within 12 months, but was about 200 miles past the 12,000 mile mark. It was repaired at 87,670 miles and the odometer at the time of break-down was at 99,800+, making it outside of the "warranty" period. So, I moved forward with the repairs at our mechanics automotive. The total cost for the transmission replacement was $2,259. 84. Afterwards I was informed that recalls cannot have a limited warranty such as the one that was described to me by the csr (jackie) at Ford on 06/30/2015. This is a problem that put my family into harms way and a repair of that problem that should have been covered by Ford/uptown.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestar. While driving approximately 30 mph, the front passenger side of the vehicle began to jerk and an unfamiliar warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/10/2014

I attempted to start vehicle and the engine was difficult to turn over. When it did start the rpms were going up and down . When I tried to put car in reverse it would not engage causing vehicle to roll forward. ( I was parked on a slight declined driveway). After reading about similar problems I checked the pcm (power control module. It was filled with water !!! after unplugging the pcm and allowing it to dry out I plugged it back in and the problem was corrected. It appears to me that the pcm is located in a bad location causing it to have problems when it rains or snows. I made a temporary fix by putting silicone caulking around the cowling where I believe the water is getting in. . . .

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

While traveling on the highway with no warning the vehicle lost all acceleration. Once able to get to a safe area to pull over the vehicle started to respond. Since this occurence this situation has happened intermittently for the past year. I have brought the vehicle to the Ford dealer and 2 different mechanics, all of whom have changed many different items ranging from a tune up to a new coil and multiple cam shaft sensors. All 3 have performed many diagnostics but to date have been unable to locate the problem which still exists but with more regularity. I am no longer able to drive the vehicle due to its performance and I am scared to put my wife and children in the vehicle. When I did do some research on the internet I came across hundreds if not thousands of the very same complaints, someone has to force Ford to address this safety issue. Mini vans are most commonly used for transporting our most precious passengers, children. Will it take a car full of children dying for Ford to acknowledge this problem exists and that they need to do the right thing.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2013

While merging onto route 50 off 628 the car died. I drifted onto side of road, but in park and restarted it. Took exit off 50 at 450 and car stopped again. Put in park at red light, started up again and drove down riva road. Car stopped 4 more times before getting to my residence, each time engine stopping, no power steering and no brakes. Called koons Ford annapolis and had the car towed there the next day (since the incident occured on a Sunday). They kept the car for 1 week and could not confirm or duplicate any of the conditions. Possibly pcm but not sure. They found one error while driving it , but the computer could not find it. Payed for diagnostic test. Car has been running fine until 7/6/13 when exactly the same thing happened. Took back to Ford and 2 days later was told it was the pcm. Could not say how long it would take to get a new one as Ford does not have them it stock, but for $1300. 00 could place the order. Found a Ford tech blog that describes exactly what every one is going through and how to fix it. Water is leaking under the cowl and shorting out the pcm. There needs to be a recall on this before some one dies.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2012

Was driving home from store (about 20 miles) when engine cut off while driving at about 45 mph, pulled over and was able to get it started again. A little further down the road it cut off again but this time the engine just revved by itself then went back to normal without completely cutting off. About 3 miles from home it cut off again while driving at about 40-45 mph and I coasted to the side of the road and then started it again. Decided to take it to the dealer since it needed the torque converter replaced due to recall. Drove it another 20 miles with no problems and left the van with my son to take to the dealer. Van cut out on my son several times within the 2 miles to the dealer. Also cut off on the mechanic at the dealer. Dealer replaced torque converter, overdrive transmission shaft sensor, and replaced the plugs and wires to the tune of over $800. 00 not including the torque converter which was replaced at no charge due to the recall. Drove over the next week for a total of less than 200 miles. Then today the engine cut off on me again exactly like before and I once again had to coast over to the side of the road and restart it. This is very scary when it happens and could cause a very serious accident. Luckily when it has happened to me it has not been on a busy highway. So I have paid over $800 to the local Ford dealer and still have the problem. It scares me to death to drive this car now and it is our sole vehicle as my husband is disabled and doesn't drive. We are in no position to buy another vehicle now, we live 20 miles from town and now this car is unsafe to drive.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

In February 2012 I went to for check engine let they said it was erg value. I fix. Also, the weekend no Ford dealers/ service centers are open.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2012

Was on a very busy highway. The Freestars dash lights lite up and went back off. Ac cut off then everything started working again. About 30 seconds later the Freestar died at 65. I was able to coast to a stop on the shoulder. Again on may 5 2012 the lights started flickering and the ac started to blow hard and it would slow back down then the dash lights abs, brake, battery lights would blink on and off then the Freestar died again at 70 mph. Brakes didn't work I was going through a intersection and had to use the e brake. Freestar has done this several times over the last month I just hit the high spots. It has had test after test and I'm always told a different story! I just want my van fixed before someone gets hurt or killed. ## VIN passed ## Ford Freestar 2005 ##.

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

I tried different gears but the car continue to go on reverse I had no warning light, no sign of the car go bad no noise, nothing the car just slowed down n went on reverse. The car was towed to my house I have no money to fix this issue I don't know whats wrong with this car and to top it off I just bought the car in March of 2011. My understanding is that Ford is aware of these problems but has not done nothing to fix it I'm stuck making payments to a car that is not working so please tell me what can I do.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2011

My engine lost power as my van was shifting from first to second gear. After shifting into neutral, I could restart the van, but every time I reached the shifting point between first and second gear, the engine would cut completely out, thereby losing power steering and brakes. Also, the reverse gear operates only intermittently. I took the van to a transmission specialist within five miles from my home because it would only operate in first gear, and was told the torque converter needed to be replaced. The repair is going to cost $2,436. 05. I am attempting to seek assistance from Ford, as the repair was started the day the recall was issued. So far, I do not have written confirmation from them that my vehicle is included in the recall, and they have not agreed to pay for the repair.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2010

I have had the car stop after and during rainy days. Most recently the car would not start or move during a heavy rain. I have had to wait days until the car dries out for the car to move. Have taken it to the shop after several instances of this same occurrence. They can not find out what is wrong as the car runs ok? after researching on the internet I have come to the conclusion that it is water leaking on and into the pcm causing the car to not start or move. Ford dealership has not been able to solve the problem or have a solution?.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

Upon a stop or when attempting to reverse, the car lunges for no apparent reason. I view this as dangerous, as this has occurred several times, either when in a parking lot with pedestrians behind me entering store or when I am at a stop light and pedestrians are in a crosswalk. After researching this issue, I see that this is a problem that other people are having as well, concerning a "throttle body" component on the Ford freestyle from years 2005 and up. I feel that this should be seriously investigated before someone is seriously injured or killed through no fault of the car owner, but in fact, the vehicle and the maker of the vehicle.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2010

Driving along at 35 mph suddenly the engine rev's and without warning the car completely loses pulling power we coast into a parking lot the car cranks but wont move.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2010

I was traveling down the highway at 45 mph, when the van suddenly went down to 20 mph. I was traveling on the inside lane of a two lane highway, and I was having a hard time getting over to the right. The left side was a median. I finally managed to get over to the right and pulled into a driveway. Once in the driveway, the vehicle would not move any more. There were no indications anything was wrong prior to this. I had just traveled to this town 30 miles away from my home. No noises, no difficulty shifting gears - nothing. The vehicle is currently in the shop it happened on Friday today is Sunday and I won't hear anything from the mechanic until Monday. The reason I am filing this complaint is - I travel to houston on a regular basis in this vehicle. I cringe when I think about what would have happened to me and my family if this would have happened to us while we were in houston's traffic. The normal speed on a highway in houston is 80mph. If nothing is done -death is ultimate.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2010

I began having intermittent trouble starting the van in Feb. 2010 during a record snow week. I contributed it to the cold weather and bad conditions. In March the problem continued very sporadically with not starting on the first attempt. On March 5th the van engine cut off while driving. On March 7th, while driving about 30 miles per hour the van cut out 4 times in a 2 block period. When the engine cut off it would be without warning with loss of power steering. The van was taken to a service center where I was told it would need a new engine. It was out of warranty by 121 miles. Ford is currently refusing to replace the engine. I have found multiple other complaints for the same issues on the make and model.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2010

Engine stutters, won't run steady, idols over 2000rpm in nuetral, continually dies, when engine dies steering hard(naturally), won't go in reverse, this problem causes innumeral problems that are not safe when it does it on the road. The problem is apparently in moisture in the pcm. Torque converter was replaced in 2012. Has not done the problem for a year and did it again today( has not rained in more than a week) just going down the road and starts cutting out and dies! has done this many times since 2010. Ford knows about it!.
