1 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/08/2024

My Ford Freestar without warning or anything just wouldn’t go after stopping at a stop sign. It was like it was stuck in neutral. But it was in drive. In 2003 and 2004 there was a recall on the transmission. My van is a 2005 but the transmission was manufactured in 2004. Which is one of the years that was recalled so why is my 2005 Ford Freestar van not one of the ones under that recall. Is it cause it’s a 2005 cause the transmission was manufactured in 2004. I almost got hit by semi truck when this happen. Please recall this van. Please help!!! god bless you all. Thanks, patterson family.

4 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/16/2020

5 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

Takata recall: I had the torque converter replaced, per recall in 2013 or 2014, when I lost power in my van while driving on the highway in wa state. I believe my van had about 70,000 miles at that time. I have since moved to tennessee. Yesterday, I while driving, van died at a stop sign, while moving on the street, turning a corner, and then while driving, lurching forward before dying. It would start, drive a while, then die again. I had it towed to a shop, where they say the new torque converter is "shot" and took out my transmission. It will cost me $2300-4000 to replace the transmission. Ford employee looked up my VIN # and said im not part of a "recall" for bad replacement torque converters, but how can a torque converter go bad. . . . That bad!! in 5 years. . . And 59,000 miles? my van now has 138,000 miles on it.

6 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 05/24/2018

Liftgait won't open replaced it and still won't open.

7 Equipment problem of the 2007 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/27/2018

I have a 2007 Ford Freestar se. VIN# 2fmza51657ba00441. At 102,296 miles the transmission failed. I was driving it on a side street at approximately 15 miles per hour. I was accelerating from a stop sign, when the transmission appeared to slip into neutral. I looked and it was still in drive, I tried downshifting, putting it into neutral and back into drive and nothing worked. I coasted to the side of the road and put it into park. That appeared to work. I then tried using reverse and it did not engage. I then tried all gears and nothing happened. I then had the vehicle towed to my house. I let it cool down and it still did not work. The transmission fluid is a clean pink and smells brand new. I proceeded to do online research to determine the problem and if it can be easily repaired, what I found was very interesting. It was a very common problem occurring around 103,000 miles. Many (hundreds if not thousands of people had the same issue with this vehicle spanning several years, most notably from 2004 through 2006. There was a recall issued for those years. There was not, however, a recall for the 2007 model year. There are numerous people with this year and problem as well. I am curious as to why the 2007 model year was not included when it obviously suffers the same issue. .

8 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/03/2018

Was driving down the highway and the vehicle completely wouldn't accelerate. It was like the engine wouldn't go. Had to had it towed with children in the car and I was told it might be my transmission.

9 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 11/18/2017

I just purchased this vehicle today. Once I drove on the highway to get home the transaxel warring light started flashing. As I looked that up I found that there was a recall for torque converter output. As I read things I seen others had same issue and it was this that caused the issue.

10 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/20/2017

Before it broke down completely the van was driving funny, like if it didn't have enough strength especially when I was driving hill but one night I was driving the van and suddenly just shut off in the middle off the highway. Thanks god I didn't have many cars behind me and I manage to avoid getting hit by holding my phone out the window so to be seen until I was able to "drive" to a section of road with street lights. The next day I had it towed to my mechanic because it would not start anymore. The mechanic told me there was a lot of complaints for this problem. So I don't know what are they waiting for to make this an official recall. I feel very lucky my children and wife were not in the vehicle during these past incidences. I would like a response from you on this recall matter a. S. A. P. Thank you.

11 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/11/2017

I was driving home from my work when my van surged forward and lost all power. I was able to start it right back up, but as soon as I gave it gas, it surged forward again and lost all power. It restarted again immediately, but in my parking lot it surged and died a 3rd time. When I attempted to put it in reverse, it would not immediately move in reverse. I had to hit the gas 3 times before it would go into reverse. This also happened three times.

12 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/04/2017

Without warning in heavy traffic the transmission quit. Would not go forward or backward in any gear. I had enough motion left to get it to the side of the road. Had it towed to a trans repair shop and was told it was most likely the torque converter. He said this these vehicles have had numerous tc failures. This could have been a very dangerous situation had it happened in interstate traffic but thank god even though it was in heavy traffic is was just a city street. I think Ford should be responsible for the repairs.

13 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 03/24/2017

Vehicle suddenly and without warning will not engage any gears. Shifts gear with no problem, but it will not move when shifted into drive, reverse, etc. We are unable to use any momentum to move off the road safely. Upon research it may be related to the torque converter recall from 2009. Vehicle has 154,700 milage. We were at a stoplight when motive power failed, moving at about 10 mph.

14 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

My transmition turn my car off in the highest my engine light keeps going on.

15 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 02/24/2017

2004 Ford Freestar 2fmza58274bbxxxxx Ford is charging me for the repair for the torque converter subframe 3-4 $600~$800 bushing kits ($200 each) they want to charge me. I informed them that only do the factory recall repairs the pulled my van out and told me the cant do the repairs, because they are scared of the ball joints and tie rods might break, then complained about the subframe my have to be cut to install new subframe bolts bushings etc. Just to they can continue to take the apart to replace the torque converter. The agreed to charge me 300 labor and told me to pick up the parts needed so I purchased 2 tie-rods. 2 transaxles l-r, 2 lower control arms which included ball joints. They took the subframe apart then told me I need to pay and additional $500 for a used subframe from the salvage yard. Instead of Ford just preplacing the subframe 4 bushings and bolts kits $67. 00 at park Ford 400 west avenue tallmadge ohio 44278, they want to charge me I needed to get a new subframe bolts and that the subframe is not made anymore and 3-4 $600~$800 each. Then they want to charge me $300 extra labor for cutting the frame/ and welding it back shut to install washer(bolt anchors ) then reseal it, and to uninstall the old parts and install the new parts which they have to remove to perform the factory recall repairs. So this repair is going to cost me 392. 20 for parts 300 labor, 800 subframe bushings $1492. 2 if purchase elsewhere around $26 each I am a USA disable veteran studying form cisco ccna 200-105 exam and so I can better support my adult special need daughter sherry grimes ,I am ronald lee grimes Ford had my van Friday 24th 2017 its March 1st 2017 and they are searching for ways to charge me more money. While I have to walk to my destinations.

18 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 11/25/2016

On November I was going shopping with my two kids, out of the sudden my van stopped in the intersection of washington and miles, I didn't know what was going on, I pushed it to the side off the road. It didn't turn on so I called the tow truck. We're being trying to fixed it but now it just doesn't shift. It is unknown as to what caused the problem.

19 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

Takata recall - 2005 Ford Freestar van 135,000 miles. . . . . Transmission failure 3 (March 2012) (July 2007) times in 11 years. Recall issued for same exact van built at other plant but does not cover my van. I don't understand this as Ford says that they use the same parts at all locations. Was driving vehicle and lost all power (breaks, steering ect. ). Have almost wrecked multiple times due to this issue. We have contacted Ford and have only been told how sorry they are that we are having problems. Dealership service manager accused us of said vehicle in area with lost of water.

20 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 12/01/2015

I am not sure where the problem lies but we suspect it may be electrical. We have had the fuel pump, fuel filter replaced, and the pcm cleaned and dried out but the van is still making a squealing noise and dies without notice, most often in the middle of a turn or at a stop light or sign. The squealing starts when you turn the van on, then will stop and start again randomly. Usually soon after it will just die. So far it has always restarted but it seems to be getting worse. We are afraid to drive it very far for fear it will die in traffic or in the middle of an intersection with oncoming traffic.

21 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

The car will just lost power are shut off with no warning, and when I take it in to the Ford dealership they can never find anything wrong, and it will do this after a good rain it's like something is getting wet and not working right, it just has to power I have 2 children and this is the only car I have , and I don't like driving it because of this reason I do not want to be killed in this car.

22 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/30/2015

While driving, the van suddenly ceased to respond to applying the gas pedal. The motor continued to respond, rpms rise with acceleration attempts but the van will not move. No gear (including reverse) responds. The vehicle was rolled into a parking lot and had to be towed. At this time, repairs have not been made, but there is significant indication that the torque converter may be the issue. We are disturbed because there are multiple complaints of this issue with other 2006 Freestar owners, and there has been no recall issued or apparent responsibility taken on the part of the manufacturer. It is clear that the same parts are being affected as those recalled from the 2005 models. We are not in a financial position to fund transmission repairs and we could lose our only vehicle due to this incident. I am just grateful my husband (or my children, or someone else) was not killed in an accident caused by this failure. I intend to contact the manufacturer directly, but have not at this point. I would very much like this situation investigated with Ford, not just for our vehicle but all the people lodging complaints of this issue--here and elsewhere online.

23 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 08/19/2015

My van suddenly went out of gear and the van lurched forward, while driving at about 35 mph. Thankfully we were in town, and not going a faster speed or on a major hwy! after coasting to a safe place, we finally managed to get it to go back into gear for a short time. After several attempts, we managed to get it home. It refuses to go into gear now and has been parked since then. I know there has been a recall on the torque converter for this make and model, and those customers have experianced the exact same symptoms as my van. This is obviously a problem with a lot more vans than originally thought and the recall needs to be extended to other VIN #s, including mine.

24 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/10/2015

I hade been driving the van for approximatly 125 miles, came to a stoplight close to my home. Stopped at the light, and when I tryed to go forward ehrn the light turned green, there was no power to thee transmission, the engine only reved up. I was facing downhill, and rolled into a store parking lot. Had to have it towed to my house. Doing research online, I found very similar cercumstances with many other Freestars. Ford had issued a recall on the torque converter for the 2004-05 Freestars, but not the 2006, which has the same part. All Freestars with this same part shuld have been recalled, not just 2 out of 4 years. I feel very cheated and now I am facing a very large repair bill.

25 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/05/2015

So now my car is just stuck and I topped off all of my fluids. . I really dont know what to do. . Im a mother of two and also a fulltime employee. . And I really cant be with out a vehicle!! help!!.

28 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

While driving down the highway with my five children in the car the carson we lost power and I had to say try my best to safely coast to the side of the road and was not able to get completely out of the way before the car stopped and wouldn't move. We have to get out of the car walk through a field a9 year old 10 year old 6 year old two year old and an 8 month old. There are recalls on all other urs except this one even though they have the same engine and failing parts. Torc converter!!! my kids were afraid and didnt know what would happen ro us. It will cost us money we don't have to fix this car, with the faulty part. We should be included in the recall.

29 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

Turns out there was a recall on the 2004 Ford Freestar in 2012 regarding the torque converter. Here it is two years later and it goes out again. This should not happen. There needs to be another recall on the torque converter and it needs to be fixed properly this time before there is a death from the incident. I had two kids under the age of 3 with me at the time and sitting in the pouring rain, in chilly weather, waiting for a ride home was not fun. Fix it Ford!!!.

30 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 01/16/2015

I was mid turn when the gas pedal stopped working with a loud grinding sound. It would not shift back into gear and the loud grinding sound still persists.

31 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

I have my 2 grandchildren who have muscular dystrophy. I bought this van to get them to doctors appointments, etc with wheel chair. I was driving the vehicle home and stopped at the light. As soon as the light turned green I proceeded though the intersection and the vehicle just stopped. The vehicle just would not move. I had children in this van and was almost hit because of the transmission in this vehicle. Why would Ford not step up and do a recall on these vehicles. When will someone take notice that this could have easily caused a accident, hurting innocent children. These vans are mostly used as a family van. Does someone have to get hurt for someone to do something? the van is not fixed yet and I am still making payments. I can not afford to fix it.

32 Equipment problem of the 2005 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Transmission problems again. There was a torque converter replace on it in 2011 and then a transmission and converter again in 2012. All under a previous owner . I bought it from that owner and now its doing the same stuff again. My local Ford dealership said there is nothing that they can do. If it still has the same problem , why wont the fix it again because it was not fixed right like it should be. They just put a bad converter in it twice and said forget it. Not fair to us that they wont fix it. This will be the third time.

33 Equipment problem of the 2006 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 09/13/2014

I had an oil change on 9/13/2014 & asked them to rotate my tires at midas at 8016 w. Hillsborough Ave. Tampa, FL 33615, phone number: 813-886-1177. They said that they couldn't rotate the tires because they had dry rot on them. This prompted me to locate the receipt I purchased these 4 tires new at the same midas location, they were purchased on 02/20/2010 when this vehicle had 44,368 miles on it. Also I looked at each tire to find the date the tires were manufactured & to my surprise it was covered with a rubber seal on each tire. I sent varios email to midas' customer service along with the copy of the recipt and pictures of the tires showing the rubber seal. I have read even on your website that it is against the law to cover the maufactured date on tires. Can midas be fined for this and I think they owe me another set of 4 tires because of that? I will enclose attachments of the receipt and pictures of the tires when I receive an email back from you.

34 Equipment problem of the 2004 Ford Freestar

Failure Date: 07/27/2014

I was traveling on a busy road last Sunday. My van completely shut down with no warning. I had no power steering or power brakes and was almost rear-ended. Thank god I managed to get to the side of the road. I started it again and it happened again three more times. I had it towed to jim's auto service and they think it could be related to water leakage onto the computer. I called Ford to ask about this and they said that they knew nothing about this but I found information about this problem all over the internet. I asked them how could my mechanic know about this and they didn't?! they told me to take it to a Ford dealership. I am 60 years old and babysit my grandchildren full time and I am afraid to drive them in this vehicle! I also do not have the money for major repairs. I hung up with Ford feeling frustrated since this could have been a fatal situation if I had been on the highway with my granddaughter.
