Failure Date: 06/07/2020

My car has begun to accelerate when I am braking, and it is a powerful and sudden acceleration! it seems to happen more often when I am backing up and turning, but will happen at any time. It started last week and is happening with greater frequency, making it unsafe to drive. Last night it went into fail safe mode, but upon restarting the car today, it has returned to normal. I did an internet search and found that other people have had similar experiences, particularly when the air conditioner is running. As it so happens, I had my air conditioner fixed last week.

While idling waiting to pick up my children at school. The car started to lunge / accelerate unexpectedly. Had I not had my foot on the brake my car would have moved forward and hit the car in front of me or a person leaving the school to go to the parking lot. 12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

I just had the a/c compressor replaced and now the car lunges without pressing on the gas peddle. It mostly happens while I am moving from park to reverse. It has happened once, while I was moving forward in a parking lot and then stalled. Pressing the brake pedal overrides the sudden acceleration, and it seems to be worse when the air conditioning is on or the steering wheel is turned. While it started slowly, it is now happening ever time I put the car in reverse. I need to keep my foot on the brake peddle every time. I am hoping that Ford places a recall on the Ford Freestyle.

22 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2011

On several occassions, the most recent being may 28, 2011, my 2005 Ford Freestyle has had sudden acceleration issues. On Saturday, may 28, 2011, this occurred when I was backing out of a parking space. I have found that only by turning the car off and restarting it will this correct the issue. I have had this happen in both drive and reverse. Luckily it has always been immediately after I have started the vehicle and I am moving at a low rate of speed either in my driveway or in a parking lot. I have not had the misfortune to be involved in an accident but hearing on the news that this is a reported issue with my vehicle encouraged me to do more research as there has not been a common denominator that would allow me to have a dealer replicate the issue.

23 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Unintended acceleration of my 2005 Ford Freestyle. It would happen most often when backing out of my garage or turning into a parking space. Noticed it more when a/c was running and wheel was turned. I took the car to the dealer and they replaced the throttle body. No old parts are available because I did not know this was a wide spread problem until I saw the news release today.

24 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2011

The car lunges/lurches (accelerates suddenly) on it's own randomly, usually right after putting into gear, especially in reverse, but also in drive. Completely unpredictable. I have to keep my foot firmly on the brake when I start to go because I am afraid that it will lurch and cause an accident or injure someone. It seems to be worse when the ac is running, but that isn't always the case, either. My 17 year-old son is experiencing it, too, and is uncomfortable driving it.

I am experiencing a sudden acceleration when idling, parking, and placing the car in reverse that results in the car lunging forward unexpectedly. The problem seems to be more noticeable when the air conditioning is on. Today for the first time when the car was put into reverse, the car accelerated, lunged, stalled and the engine fail-safe warning light appeared on the instrument panel. 34 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2010

I own a 2005 Ford Freestyle, bought new, and over the past 6-12 months I have begun to notice sudden accelerations when putting the vehicle into gear. The engine revs and the vehicle surges forward or backward. I have also had the engine die with no warning while the car was in gear and running. On 6/29/2010 I put the vehicle in reverse and it surged backwards, I applied the brakes strongly and the engine died. The sudden accelerations are becoming more frequent, it has happened to me 3 times in the past 7 days. I have contacted Ford motor company to inquire for more information and have researched similar complaints on the internet. I found hundreds of consumer complaints detailing the exact same issue, due to a faulty throttle body assembly. I am currently in the process of having my car examined and repaired at the Ford dealer. Repairs are expected to cost at least 500 dollars. I am very disappointed Ford has not made any attempts to warn owners of the problem and/or repair the vehicle at no cost. Sudden accelerations, not under control of the driver, are obviously quite dangerous and frightening. Losing engine power in conjunction with it, in traffic, can be very dangerous as well. I wanted to inform you of the problem that apparently many of us Freestyle owners are having, in hopes something can be done to fix the vehicles and protect the operators and traveling public.
