The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when sitting idle at a stop or attempting to brake, the vehicle would suddenly accelerate. The failure occurred four times since June 2010. The contact was able to abruptly depress the brake pedal again to stop the unintended acceleration. The vehicle was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000 and the current mileage was approximately 80,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While the contact was driving approximately between 30-35 mph, the engine revved with an extremely slow power response. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, and the engine turned off. The vehicle restarted and resumed normally. In addition, the vehicle exhibited unintended acceleration during braking. The failures occurred intermittent. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician informed that the throttle body would need to be replaced at an estimated cost of $800. The repair part arrival date was August of 2010. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 10/13/bf updated 10/21/jb.
Vehicle accelerates unexpectedly at low speeds.
While on out of state vacation, our 2005 Ford Freestyle was idling in park with the ac running. When the car was placed in reverse, it accelerated quickly (unintended) with no input at the accelerator pedal. Once I stopped the car, the engine died. When it was restarted, it idled roughly for a minute and then ran ok. This type of unintended acceleration has randomly occurred 6 times total within a period of one week. The last time this occurred, the engine died once the vehicle was stopped. When it was restarted, the wrench light illuminated on the instrument panel. We drove the car to an autoparts store where the codes were read. The codes were p2106 & p061b. When the engine restarted, the wrench light on the instrument panel did not illuminate. We took the car to a local Ford dealer and described the events in detail. The Ford dealer performed a diagnostic test but no codes were detected. They said we needed a new throttle body. They came to this conclusion because of a technical services bulletin issued by Ford (TSB 06-21-1). The car has 79,857 miles so the dealer said it was out of warranty and that there were no recalls on the throttle body. I called Ford customer relationship center and was told the same thing. I expressed my concern about the safety issue of the unintended acceleration but their only comment was that is was my responsibility to pay for repairs. We have talked to another party who has had the same occurance with their Freestyle. Their throttle body was replaced under warranty but has once again started the unattended acceleration. I have also seen several posts on internet forums from people having the same problem. It appears that the replacement throttle bodies have the same defect and this is only a temporary fix. This problem could easily result in a crash or a pedestrian being struck. Our car has not been repaired. The defective throttle body is still intact on the car. The car is also very slow to decelerate.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle had experianced unintended accelleration. The contact indicated that while driving approximataley 50 mph the speed suddenly accelerated to 65 mhp although the drive did not press the accelerator pedal. The vehilce was taken to the dealer and repairs were performed but no information was available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. Jft.
Our Freestyle has experienced mild but worsening unintended acceleration for two years now, but it was always "mild" and did not cause the car to lurch forward even when the driver's foot was hard on the brake pedal. Then we had a new problem: no cold air from the ac at idle. We responded (6/11) to a mailed promotion from hertrich Ford (easton MD) for an ac "tune up. " they did nothing but add dye to our refrigerant and "clean" our air ducts with disinfectant. So we turned to the owners' forum, myfordfreestyle. Com, and quickly diagnosed the problem: a seized-up pressure control valve. Apparently Ford dealers refuse to perform this simple repair (part cost $40) and will only replace the entire ac compressor ($800 + labor). So we ordered the valve online and had a competent local mechanic replace the valve (1-hour labor plus cost of refrigerant). The ac is "good as new", but the unintended acceleration is now much worse. The incidents always occur at very low to no speed and when maneuvering the car (I. E. Parking, k-turning, etc. ). In all of these situations, both the ac and the power steering pump are demanding/drawing near-maximum power from an essentially idling engine, nearly stalling the engine; the electronic engine/idle control then kicks-in and hugely "over-reacts" by revving the engine to 2,000+ rpm. Even with your foot on the brake, an automatic in drive is going to surge quite far at 2000+ rpm. Please look at the myfordfreestyle. Com website: note that almost all of the complaints about unintended acceleration come during hot weather months and a few also note the problem is much worse with the ac on. It took us less than 30 minutes on the website to diagnose both the ac problem and unintended acceleration problem. It is inconceivable that Ford has not been aware of both of these problems for years. (surely Ford's customer relations staff monitor owner forums).
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when reversing or with the brake depressed and moving forward, the vehicle would suddenly accelerate without warning. The failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed but the dealer was unable to locate a failure code. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
At various times the car will lunge forward while foot is on the brake (pulling into a parking space, into a parking lot, idling in heavy traffic). Failure started occurring around 40,000 miles. 8/2009 vehicle shut down while driving. Towed to repair facility where they replaced the throttle body assembly with a used one as a new part was not available (apparently was in a redesign phase) we are now (7/2010) experiencing the same sudden accelerations we had prior to it shutting down in August of 2009.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle loses power and will not accelerate over 20 mph. When he shifts gears, the vehicle suddenly accelerates. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the throttle body assembly failed. The original part will be available in December of 2009. The dealer will not release the vehicle until the failure is repaired because it is unsafe to drive. Report number 048422169 was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that if he replaced the failed part with an aftermarket part, it would void his warranty. The current and failure mileages were 30,000.
Multiple cases of unintended acceleration, codes indicate failed throttle body. Check engine comes on and forced limited power keeps speed below 25 mph.
The contact owns 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated the vehicle suddenly accelerated several times. The contact stated when this happened the vehicle shifted into safety mode and the vehicle would not accelerate over 35 mph. The contact had the vehicle inspected and was told the throttle body needed to be replaced. The contact stated the failure occurred more when the weather was warm. The failure mileage was 62,000 and the current mileage was 91,000.
I heard about the 2005-2007 Ford Freestyle investigation regarding sudden acceleration. My wife drives a 2005 Freestyle. This same thing has happened to me when I have driven her car. My foot has been on the brake so it has not caused an accident. The acceleration is pronounced and is potentially dangerous. I have not noticed this happening for a while however. Maybe computer updates at the dealership have already corrected this?.
The contact 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving in reverse with the brakes depressed the vehicle suddenly accelerated and the power train light illuminated when the failure occurred. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test. The vehicle was repaired; however, it did not correct the failure. The vehicle continued to suddenly accelerate and the power train light illuminated when the failure occurred. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 9,000 and the current mileage was 99,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while traveling 5 mph the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated and failed to stop until the brakes were depressed to the floor. The vehicle also experienced the identical failure when the vehicle was placed in the reverse position. The contact stated the vehicle was not taken to dealer, and the manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000, and the current mileage was 85,000.
