Table 1 shows one common unknown or other related problems of the 2006 Ford Freestyle.

I went to put my car into park and my car accelerated had to jump on the brakes with both feet car stalled restarted it had no power and recently transmission was making noise had loss of power I would step on the gas and the car wouldnt move I would shut the car off and restarted it and it would be fine then one night I was driving it had my kids in the car and my car lost all drive gears no accleration car would just not move left us stranded my car only has 77000 miles on it and its only 6 years old I should not be having these kind of problems with it I have been reading on line theres alot of people who owns the 2006 Ford Freestyle are having this same problem so with all these complaints why is there no recall on this car I got the car back in January from my father who passed away I finished paying it off for him he bought it brand new and now theres alot of expensive repaires that I cant afford I dont want to get rid of it it has alot of sedametal value it belonged to my deceased father.
Cvt transmission must be replaced. Our 2006 Ford Freestyle whines when in neutral or park. The whine continues (at a lower decibel) when driving. Our ase certified tech told us that this problem is common with this type of car and is fully described in Ford's TSB 06-11-4. Ford is unwilling to assist us with the cost of the repair. A quick internet search tells interested parties that this is a very common problem with this car and this type of transmission. Further, it is our opinion that this repair should be covered by Ford since many, many owners have the same problem. Please issue a recall for this very costly repair.
Car lunges when in idle. Either in drive or reverse. Just sitting still it wants to move and if you don't have your foot firmly on the brake it will move the car with a huge jerk forward or backwards. Very unsafe.
My car keeps lunging especially when the air is on. . . Also when I go into reverse it lunges and shuts off. What could the problem be. . .
My 2006 Ford Freestyle is absolutely the worst made car I have ever owned! throttle body problem. . . 50,000 miles, check! ac compressor goes bad. . . . 60,000 miles, check! and now beginning at 79,000 miles the cvt transmission is trashed! $6000 to fix and you can't even get a new one! I drove it knowing it would go bad another 3000+ miles because I was destined to spend a lot of money either way. The mechanic actually suggested I trade it in when it began. Would that have been fair to whomever bought it? these are all common early mileage problems with the Freestyles! there are numerous posts about other owners with the same problems, especially these three and there are a couple more that fortunately I have dodged to this point. What is Ford going to do? just let those of us who bought Freestyles with cvt suffer. What about the fact that you stopped using the cvt transmission on the taurus x? why? I think we know based on the numerous cvt failures at such low mileage. But not low enough to be covered by warranty.
On several occasions while I was driving in route to work or the grocery store, my 06 Ford Freestyle seemed slow and sluggish to respond as I would be waiting at a red light for the green. When the light did turn green and I would press the gas pedal to go, the car would shut off. A few times there were close calls as the car behind me would be unaware I was having trouble and almost rear-end me. When the car would cut off, I would proceed to restart the car and then press the gas to go. The car seemed to respond extremely slow like I would have the gas pedal pressed to the floor and would only be able to go 20 - 25 mph. On other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if I had the car in drive or reverse) the throttle body failure on my 2006 Ford Freestyle creates a very dangerous situation because the engine will accelerate without applying the gas pedaland will no accelerate at times when the gas pedal is pressed. After a little research I found this to be arecurring problem on 2006, and 2007 Ford Freestyle vehicles. Ford is or should be well aware the proble exist and has for some time and has done nothing about it , to add insult to injury my car has been at the Ford dealership for over a month because the parts needed to repair it [ throttlebody ] is not availiable and no one can tell me for sure when it will be people at Ford tell me that the company making the part went out of bussiness without notice, well needless to say this does not help my situation, I have notified my state and federal highway safety commishners of the problem and I would like to ask everyone with a similar problem to do the same.
During hot weather, on multiple occasions, my newly-purchased 2006 Ford Freestyle will "lunge" wildly when initially placed in either reverse or drive, requiring heavy application of the brakes to keep it from running away. The vehicle has a "wrench" light (indicating a powertrain or transmission fault) and an "engine" light (I. E. , check engine) which both come on when this occurs. Typically turning the ignition off and restarting the car will temporarily resolve the problem, however occasionally the check engine light will remain on while driving for a day or so afterward. This behavior has not been exhibiting itself since the weather turned cooler. I don't know what difference that makes, but it does seem to make some difference.
While stopped in traffic (outside temperatures were approximately 98-99 degrees f. Air conditioning was running in both the front and back of the car) with the brake pedal pressed the engine revved (rpm went above 2) and lurched forward approximately 1 foot. Applied the brake pedal more forcifully and approximately 1 minute later the engine revved and the car lurched forward again. The second time put me almost rear-ending the car in front of me. Later in the day as I was reversing (again, with the brake pedal being utilized) the car revved and lurched backward. I am being told the throttle body needs to be replaced with expected costs roughly $1,000. 00.
Beginning about August of 2011 my car started to suddenly "jump" forward even if my foot was not on the accelerator and even when my foot was on the brake. I was able to apply my brakes hard enough to make it stop and I immediately put the car in park. It happened at least 2 more times in the week that followed. I had a friend look at the car, but then it did not start to do it again until this week. Several times the car jolted forward once I even had my foot firmly on the brake. I had to really push on the brake as I put the car in park to keep from hitting the car immediately in front of me. Each time I was able to step on the brakes and put the car in park. Even in park the engine would rev to higher than usual rpms. I turned the car off and started it again to see if that would correct the issue. But a short time later it did the same thing. Then finally, my car died and I had a hard time starting it again. When it did start, I had a hard time trying to get it to drive. It was in gear, but it did not want to go forward, almost as if it was fighting the acceleration. I got it home and parked it. I will be taking my car to a Ford dealer this week to be looked at. But, when I did some research on the problem, I found there have been similar complaints so I wanted to make sure you were aware of mine as well. Do I have any recourse about the issue and the repair that will be required?.
We purchased a 2006 Ford Freestyle on Wednesday August 3rd, 2011. Acceleration seemed "off" but since we had been driving a minivan, we and the dealer put it off as more "get up and go. " problem persisted with each time the vehicle was driven and we became concerned. Wednesday August 10th, as we pulled into a parking spot, engine revved and car surged forward very forcefully, almost making us hit the car in the spot ahead of us. No feet or other objects came into contact with either pedal at time of incident. My 3 children were in the car. This is very concerning to us. Vehicle is currently in the shop and will not be driven off the lot until loan is forgiven on account of us being sold a faulty and unsafe vehicle. On the way to repair shop, steering wheel locked up, entire car shook, engine accelerated without any pressure on either pedal.
Car lunged forward with foot firmly on the brake, this also happened when the car was in reverse. This lunging stopped when the brake was applied, this has happened several times since then.
The car lunges. Example: pulling into a parking space and almost hitting a parked car, slow down to to let someone cross in front of you in a parking lot and the car lunges almost hitting them, in reverse or drive, makes no difference.
My Ford Freestyle lunges at various points on my route. I notice it the most when my foot is on the brake. For instance, at times when I am backing oout of my garage, my car would suddenly accelerate even though my foot was firmly on the brake. I have also been pulling up behind traffic, with my foot firmly on the brake, and the car has lunged forward. I just took my car to the mechanic. They have cleaned the throttle plate. The car now downshifts rapidly when my car is nearly stopped, like when I am stopping for a red light. The rpm's stay right at 1000 until I am 10-20 feet from the stopping point, then the car suddenly downshifts, causing the car to bow. This is a daily occurrence.
I was backing my vehicle out of a parking space when the engine suddenly stalled and a small wrench light appeared on the instrument panel. Two days later, I was stopped at an intersection when the car began lurching forward, even though I was stopped with my foot on the brake. Later that day, it happened again while parking in my driveway. The car lurched while in both drive and reverse. There had been several days of extremely hot, humid weather during which I had been using the air conditioning in the car quite frequently. The air conditioner was on during all incidents. I have not had this problem occur again as I have not used the air conditioner since the last incident.
I own a 2006 Ford Freestyle and have begun to notice a surging/lunging of the vehicle while the a/c is running. I've noticed this lunging more when the car has been running for some time and I am driving and/or reversing at slow speeds, like in a parking lot. When this happens, the rpms go up and the car surges even with the brakes being applied. This sounds like a common problem with the throttle body in Freestyles. The vehicle has been doing this consistently since the a/c hac been needed.
The vehicle lurches forward when at low speed and also while backing up without driver assisting. This sudden accelaration is unpredictable. I just purchased the vehicle a day ago and now I'm stuck with it. Every time I am backing out of the parking area it accelerates suddenly and I have to make sure my foot is on the break to stop the car before it hits something or someone. The same thing happens when I put the car on drive after backing up. It will lurch forward on its own.
2006 Ford Freestyle is surging at low speeds.
Was a very hot day (100+ degrees) sitting in traffic with ac on. Car suddenly lunge forward. Happened several times within an hour. I bought the car used in may, and this is the only time it has happened. (2006 Ford Freestyle).
Two separate incidents of Ford Freestyle engine revving without the driver's foot on the gas pedal. On 7/17/11 car lurched forward after engine revved as we were pulling into a restaurant drive through. Almost rear ended vehicle in front of us. On 7/23/11 car lurched backward after engine revved as we were backing up from a parking spot. Check engine light came on immediately following and now will not turn off. In both cases, the stearing wheel was turned quite a bit but in opposite directions. Temperature this entire week has been well over 95 degrees with heat index over 105 so air conditioning was turned on maximum for front and back areas of the vehicle. We were extremely fortunate no one got hurt in either incident.
My Ford started jerking backwards when I put reverse or lunging forward when I start driving forwards. This happened twice, once in the jekyll island when we were on vacation (all three days) in July 2011 and also when recently like three months ago, oct 2011. I first noticed when I was backing out from a hotel parking lot. I thought I am going to it the other cars. Also, I changed the brakes twice, once from the dealer and once from the auto mechanic. My mileage so far is 50k and this is a 2006 Ford Freestyle. I constantly face brake problems in this vehicle. And also other problems. (like front axle) could someone do something about these problems, please!!!.
My 06 Ford Freestyle has been lunging forward for over a year very sparatically. This past week it has been doing it daily (sometimes 2-3 times a day) and the car just shut off twice in nyc traffic. When the garage checked it they just got an error code (the throttle control/transmission light was on). Today at grocery store the car almost lunged right into a women.
2006 Ford Freestyle lunged forward suddenly while going thru a bank drive thru. It then stalled. After restarting the vehicle it would barely move. Then it lunged forward again and stalled. The wrench light was on and I was able to get it to a Ford dealership where it was diagnosed as needing a throttle body. That very night after "being fixed" the wrench light appeared again but there was no lunging or stalling. This is a serious safety issue and Ford needs to address it.
Unintended acceleration when moving transmission out of park. Car lurches and accelerates covering distances of 5-20 feet depending upon terrain. Movement can be arrested with braking, but is very sudden and intermittent so difficult to expect and control.
The car lunges forward or backwards, while having full foot on the brake, when trying to reverse from parking or in neutral. It has stalled also from this, but most dangerous is the jumping forward or backward in parking situations!! when is Ford going to recognize this and do a recall? I have 3 children and it is our only vehicle!!!!!.
I own a 2006 Ford Freestyle which I love but, I am having a problem with the car accelerating when I move forward or back up. It has been on going for the last year. I have visited many mechanics who are unable to locate the problem. I felt the need to file a complaint because I have four children and this problem has almost caused an accident more than once.
I drive a 2006 Ford Freestyle. I would like to report that when the car has been running and it is a hot day when placed in reverse it will accelerate on it's own and then the motor will die causing the check engine light to come one. Typically if I turn it off and wait a few minutes it will come back on light free, but there has been two occasions when it has not. The first I took it for a diagnostics where I was told to take it to Ford that it seemed to be a transmission issue, Ford told me that they were not sure but they cleared out the sensor to give it a good wash if it happened again. It has happened again only this time the engine dying to acceleration ration has increased and a good car wash has not helped the issue. I am becoming very concerned before the acceleration was only in reverse now it is occurring in drive as well and happening more frequently. I have plans to take it to my local Ford dealership however I do not have high hopes for answers as they were not all that helpful the first time.
2006 Ford Freestyle lunges occassionally when slowly pulling into the garage or parking space or when backing out of the garage or parking space. My foot is on the brake when this occurs.
Our 2006 Ford Freestyle has been lunging uncontrollably while driving or reversing! the rpm's go really high while driving. We have almost been in 2 accidents this past week and now are afraid to even drive it. We researched the problem online and see thousands of complaints about this! it has been in the 90's - 100's weatherwise and we have been running the a/c during the times this has happened. Please help! we have a child and can not afford the over $1000 it is saying to fix this and don't feel we should have to pay it with so many people having the same issues!.
2006 Ford Freestyle over the past year my car has been accelerating and staling for no reason. I have had to brake suddenly many time when pulling into a parking space and or backing up. Its really scary. Last week it accelerated so fast and I slammed on my brakes so hard that it quit, I started it, it quit and when I started it again, my engine light was on. I just spent over $1600 dollars to have the problem corrected at the local Ford dealership. I bought this car new and gave over $34,000 dollars for it and it has had many issues. I just paid it off in December and now I'm still spending so much money to keep it going. I am a teacher and can not afford this but I can't afford to trade it in and have car payments all over again. Please, isn't there anything you can do to help me?.
I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The car has been surging forward and backwards, for the last year and a half, with or without the a/c on. The first time I took it back to Ford, they told me there was nothing wrong. Now, we try not to use the a/c and drive/brake very cautiously.
I own a 2006 Ford Freestyle sel. Last week while I was driving the car and stopped on a signal light, my car run out of power. I had to turn the engine off and re-start it and drove it in a parking area nearby upon seeing a "check engine light and a wrench light on my dash monitor. As I was backing off from where I park the car, the car surge without me hitting the gas pedal and when I stepped on the brake, the engine lost its power altogether, hence I needed to restart the engine again. I noticed that this thing happened when my ac is on. I decided to drive the car to a nearby Ford dealer for checkup. I was informed that I needed to change the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body costing $1,200. I noticed this engine surge and loss of power on my vehicle before on several occasions but I did not give much importance to it until the "check engine light" flashed into my dash monitor the other day. I am now filing this complaint upon seeing a lot of Ford Freestyle owners have encountered similar problems as I do. I do hope that you will look into this safety concerns and come up with the best solution the soonest possible time.
On 7/8/11, I was backing out of a parking space when my 2006 Ford Freestyle suddenly lunged several feet backwards. I narrowly missed hitting the car behind me and thank goodness there was no one walking in the lot behind me. The car then died in the middle of the parking lot. I was able to restart it and after a couple more short forward lunges, I was able to drive it the 1 mile back to my home. I had it towed to the Ford service place where they said it needs the throttle body replaced. They said they can just clean the throttle body, but it would be a temporary fix, so I am having it replaced. My bill is approximately $850. I am so disappointed to find online that there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this problem, yet no recall has been issued. Apparently it has caused a handful of accidents already and it is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt. A car that lunges out of control either forwards or backwards is a dangerous situation! I will save my receipt from my auto repairs because when a recall is eventually issued, I am hoping I can get reimbursed. Very disappointed in Ford for allowing this known and dangerous problem to continue.
I have experienced a surge where the car will move with your foot on or off the brake while sitting still. This problem occurs whenever I have the a/c on or when I am turning the steering wheel. The problem is more serious when I am backing into my garage and the car surges backward which almost causes me to hit the back wall of my garage. The most serious incident occurred when the car started surging while I was backing up at work and the car hit the building. There was minor damage but could have been serious if my foot was not already covering the brake. I called the dealership and took the car in. They diagnosed the car had a bad mass air flow sensor with a code of (p061b) and (p2106) they also diagnosed that the throttle body was extremely carboned up and suggested the throttle butterfly was not moving freely due to the carbon. I paid to have it cleaned and they suggested that the throttle body may need replacement in the future.
2006 Ford Freestyle wants lunges even when the brakes are depressed and also in reverse dealership is unable and unwilling to find, and fix problem. . .
When slowing to enter a parking space or on exit from a parking space the car would suddenly idle / rev up to a high speed rpm and quickly accelerate forward. This would tend to occur when you are moving between the accelerator pedal and the brake, the car would lurch forward without control. This required the driver to slam on the break to prevent the car from hitting adjacent cars, pedestrians and curb. This also occurs when slowing to a stop at controlled intersections. The problem seems to occur more frequently with high temperatures and at higher altitudes. The problem has caused the car to stall and to trigger a computer fault that limited the function of the transmission. Turning the car off and on again cleared the error.
The vehicle has been accelerating all by itself and I have to quickly step on the brake to stop it. It has happened three times. The last time, I had 4 children in my vehicle on a very hot day and it happened as I was waiting to merge into traffic. Luckily I was able to stop it but it was very scary. I brought the vehicle to a local mechanic who indicated that it could be the throttle body or transmission, which he indicated could be very expensive. Upon researching the problem on the internet, I was shocked to see that a large number of other people are experiencing the same problem - some have even had accidents because of it.
The car was losing/gaining acceleration, rmp's would increase but the speed was not there. The engine light, a wrench light and traction control lights appeared and disappeared. The car was slamming into gear when taking it out of gear or reverse. I took my car to a Ford service center. They stated they needed to clean the valves and replace the throttle body. This service was $995. 00. Then Ford service stated that this did not resolve the problem but the car needed the service. Now the next service they want to perform is work on the transmission at a cost of $1500 not knowing if this will fix the problem.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle was accerlating when I had my foot on the brake at a stop sign. It does not gas when I have my foot on the gas pedal. It stalled a few times and when I have the car in reverse it accelerates without me even pressing on the gas. My wrench light was on in my dash as well. I took it to pepboys and was informed that my sensor was bad and I needed sparkplugs and a vacuum hose. . After spending $700, needless to say the problem with the accerlating still exists and there is also a humming noise while driving and the steering is very hard to manuveur. I took it back to pepboys and they said it is an electrical issue and I have to take it to Ford to get it fixed.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle is lurching when I do not have the accelerator pressed. It usually happens in reverse, but has also happened in heavy traffic and completely stalled. The "wrench" light comes on but when you shut off the motor and restart it is usually fine again. This has happened approximately 10 times over the last three months.
Vehicles throttle sticks and vehicle accelerates unpredictably in both drive and reverse.
When my 2006 Ford Freestyle sits parked running with air on I put it in reverse or drive and the rpms rev up over 2,000 and when I hit brakes wrench light comes on. My husband read the codes and talked to a Ford mechanic and said it a bad throttle body. When the car revs up it tries to lung forward or backward quickly. Throttle body needs replacement.
When fully warmed up, this vehicle occasionally surges or lurches violently when first put in to gear (forward or reverse) from park. Foot is on the brake, but the vehicle still moves approximately 5 to 10 feet uncontrollably. Engine races and the check engine light comes on. Turning off the ignition and restarting the car clears the light. The local dealer is unable to find any codes stored on the computer. Ac has always been on when this happened. No accidents yet, but I'm sure there will be one some day.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle started accelerating on it's own (my foot not on the gas pedal) when in reverse about 6 months ago. Recently it has started accelerating on it's own in bothe the drive and reverse and it will lunge anywhere from 1 to 6 feet. Applying the brake does not always work immediately. I have to press the brake much more firmly than usual to get the acceleration to stop.
My Ford Freestyle 2006 lunged backward approximately 2 to 4 feet while the transmission was in reverse, my foot was fully applied to the brake, and the vehicle was not moving. This has occurred many times in the same manner, and in similar situations over the past year. The temperature outside is usually in the 90's or above, I usually have the air-conditioning running, and the car will start to loose power with the tachometer visibly dipping down to zero. The car will then suddenly race to 2000 rpms, and the car will lunge backward (or forward) while my foot is on the brake. When this happens in reverse, it is impossible to apply the brake hard enough to stop movement. When this happens in drive, it is possible to apply the brake hard enough to stop movement, and the car engine will die.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle is lunging forward without feet on the pedal. I almost ran over an attendant at a car wash. He had to jump out of the way. Got the car home, but, it would only go 20mph. Very dangerous situation. Someone could get hurt or killed by this situation. Now the car sits in the driveway and my wife no longer has a vehicle to drive to get herself and our boys around. Thanks goodness my wife or kids have not gotten hurt driving this vehicle. What are we to do now?.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle is having surging problems. Every time while at a stop light, at turns, or when backing my car surges. It is very scarey an I am afraid I am going to hit someone or runover someone. I was at drive through at mcdonalds today and my car surged and came inches from hitting a child. This has got to stop. After researching this I am not the only one having this problem. This is very scarey and I am frustrated that this many people have had such a dangerous problem and it hasn't been addressed or recalled. This has to be taken care of before someone his hurt or killed because of Ford's neglect.
Have 2006 Ford Freestyle with 55,000 miles on it. It recently lunged forward while I was in driveway. And engine has been reving up for no reason what so ever.
We own a 2006 Ford Freestyle. In 2008, at 36,730 miles we had the throttle body replaced because the vehicle lurched & the wrench light came on. Problem fixed. However, 2011 @ 88,356 we had the car in again because it lurched and engine & wrench light would come on again, and it would lose power. If we turned the key off and back on, it would temporarily go away. They replaced an electronic sensor in the transmission. This was at a Ford dealer. They had to call their mechanic help line & work on it several days to figure out the problem. Apparently, that was not the problem, because it had to go back in two weeks later for the same issue. They claimed the new part was faulty and they replaced the sensor again. Fast forward 2. 5 months. We are in June @ 92,744. Vehicle was again lurching, wrench & check engine light would come on and had a loss of power. This all seemed to happen when the engine was under strain/load: ac on high, turning the wheel. It would happen in reverse or drive. I had a foot on/over the brake - so lurching never caused any incidents. This time, I took it to my mechanic. He didn't believe me - because as I said - if you turned the car off, it would all go away until the next random time it happened. So, after 2 days I picked the vehicle up from him. It happened again 2 days later. I took it to autozone and had them plug it in to get the codes out of it - before I turned it off. I took the vehicle and the codes to my mechanic. He had the car for a couple days and was able to get it to behave as I described to him. He replaced the throttle body and it seemed to fix it. We took it on a road trip for 6,000 miles and there was no problem. It is now just over 100,000 miles and the warranty has now expired. Until now - warranty has covered the bulk of the cost. About 2 weeks ago, there was one instance of surging - but no other symptoms or lights. Not sure what I plan to do from here - except perhaps wait until it is recalled?.
2006 Ford Freestyle lunging while in reverse and drive after foot is lifted off of brake, almost causing 2 separate accidents.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle frequently lunges forward without the accelerator being applied. It most frequently happens as the break lets up but also happens just as it is being put into drive. No collisions yet, just a few scares.
Stopped at a store and left the car running with air conditioner on in 90 degree plus heat, put the car in gear and it lunged and died. Took 3 times to get it to restart, and the wrench light came on. Vehicle then would accelerate properly. Has no done it two times. I think it might be the electronic throttle body.
Both times this has happened, it has been very hot 100+ degrees outside, and the vehicle had been parked, idling for a few minutes (5-15 mins). Upon putting car in gear, the vehicle engine surged. Luckily the foot was on the brake pedal. While experiencing these problems, vehicle has died twice, and tends to do it more at low, idle only speeds, for example while parking or pulling out of the driveway. Once, we were driving from out of town, and the vehicle was sluggish on accelleration, and never seemed to switch gears. We made it home, then let it cool, and it ran fine for several days. About a week later, having the same issues. Going to take it into the Ford dealer tomorrow and have them look at it, referencing the NHTSA investigation into the Ford Freestyles.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle began to either stall soon after it was started, or worse still, lunge forward a short distance. In both instances the outdoor temperature was over 90 degrees and the air conditioner was turned on. An hour after this a transmission warning light came on. I had it looked into the next day on 6/13/2001. The Ford dealership where I took it to ( greenway Ford, orlando, FL. ) Ford ran an eec system diagnosis and found that the throttle control had to be replaced and the on board computer adjusted. Since the way the vehicle lurched forward, although I was able to brake it before it went a foot, it would seem to pose a danger to individuals nearby the vehicle.
My vehicle lunged into traffic, after stopping at a traffic light. The wrench indicator light indicated a failure, but then disappeared after a couple of moments. Also, while pulling into a drive through the vehicle lunged forward almost hitting another car and I had to slam on the brakes to prevent a crash. This lunge forward, the engine revs up when this happens and I think this could be very dangerous to the driver and pedestrians (imagine this happening at a school crossing!!!).
Have a 2006 Ford Freestyle. Acceleration surges from idle, mostly in reverse but sometimes in drive, have increased in duration over the past few weeks. Last night it surged about 10 feet backing out of a parking place and came very close to hitting a pedesetrian. The wrench light came on last night but was off when ignition turned off and restarted. Now the engine light is on. I am really afraid to drive the car. Read about the investigation into surges on this model.
I drive a 2006 Freestyle. Just weeks after buying it from used dealer the vehicle started lunging when I would attempt to stop or be at a slow pace. Example being in parking lot and trying to park it would lung from about 1000 rpm to 4000-5000 rpms. This would throw my car forward. I did tap a car that day but no body damage. Also the car will be driving down the road and the wrench comes on and motor shuts down. There is no warning and has been very scary when merging into 75mph traffic with no where to go. On the 6th of June 2011 the throttle body was replaced. However within the 30 days all symptoms were occurring again. I had the compressor go out which cost $1000 to replace. On 12/02/11 I took the vehicle back to the shop, they ran codes and found it was the transmission. I have many accounts of the lunging and the wrench shut down issue. It has become very regular and makes my car very unreliable.
On other occasions, the car would seem to lurch forward or backward (depending on if I had the car in drive or reverse) as soon as I would take my foot off the brake. After the 3rd or 4th time this happened, I took the car to a local shop who had to refer me to my local Ford dealer. When I took the car to be looked at, Ford explained to me that the throttle body was bad and needed to be replaced as it was causing an electrical communication mishap in the car. So over $900 later, the car was fixed. I did do my research and found that several other 06 Ford Freestyles had had the exact same problem. Even the service man at the Ford dealer who fixed my car said that he had just had his 06 Freestyle repaired for the same reason. This is a very serious and potentially dangerous problem. We should not have to wait until someone is seriously injured or dies to do something to fix the problem like a recall. There were times when I thought I was going to be rear-ended, in an accident, or possibly drive through my house. A recall would be being proactive instead of waiting to be reactive. Being proactive shows that the Ford cares for its consumers and appreciates them as well. Safety should be priority #1!!!.
We own a 2006 Ford Freestyle and have had problems with sudden acceleration at low speeds and idling in general. The car was viewed by jeremy at classic Ford in columbia, SC, and quoted a bit too quickly for me too feel comfortable. When I mentioned an 06 Freestyle, it took no time to diagnose over the phone as a throttle body problem. The repair was quoted in the $850 range. I purchased a throttle body from another 2006 Freestyle from a junkyard and made the repair. Less than 7000 miles later we are seeing the beginning of the problem again. The initial surges/revving occurred few and far between, usually in hot temperatures with the air running. The idle rpm usually sits at about 500 rpm, and when we stop, still in drive, it surges, which causes the car to lunge forward. When it progressed, it was impossible to sit at a stop sign without idling from 500 to 750 rpm every second, back and forth. After I made the repair, the car ran great. But as I said, we are less than 7000 miles out of the repair, and the initial stages are happening again. I can purchase a part from the Ford dealer for $600+, or an aftermarket part for $500+. My hesitation in yet another repair is a faulty part from the manufacturer, or a part that is not oem, but made per their specs by an aftermarket manufacturer that will fail in a similar manner. I believe the best case in this situation will be to take the $4000 hit I will incur due to kelly blue book differences from what the car is actually worth, now that other dealers know what's up.
2006 Ford Freestyle lunges when reversing or going forward when the ac is on. This happens on a daily basis.
Vehicle lunges randomly when I am backing up and occasionally when I am going forward. It has been doing it for a while. I had to put both feet on the brake pedal to keep it from hitting a pole. Took it to the dealership and they diagnosed it as being the throttle body. Upon doing research, I saw that it has been a problem with several vehicle of the same make. As for a date when this occurs, it is like I stated before it is random and has been doing it for a while and more frequently.
Vehicle lunges forward unpredictably while air conditioning is running. When I take my foot off the brake, it lunges forward.
Three times I have experienced lunging in my car when shifting from park to drive or reverse. My foot is on the brake and not on the gas pedal. My then had transmission problems, not shifting from first gear regardless of speed or rpm. After having the computer codes checked there was an error with the transmission, the tech reset the computer codes and the car temporarily ran fine. Then the problem returned and presists. After researching this problem I discovered that it is not something limited to the transmission but seems to include the throttle body and the air conditioner as well.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle has been lurching forward unexpectedly while my foot is on the break. Sometimes is will then stall. It happens when pulling on or out of a parking spot. This has occurred several times in the past 6 weeks. Took care to shop, no codes to show issue and unable to replicate the problem.
When starting vehicle (2006 Ford Freestyle se) and placing in gear, vehicle lurches and sometimes stalls. With brakes firmly applied, vehicle does not move much, but if vehicle is already moving, it may propel forward several feet suddenly. On the reported incident date, the automobile lurched while backing out of a driveway in reverse. The car unexpectedly lurched backwards into the street, then stalled. An accident could have occurred if other cars were on the roadway. The a/c was running at the time of all occurrences.
I was waiting to pick up my son at school in the "pick up" lane. The car was in drive, but I was at a complete stop at the time with my foot on the brake. Without warning and without a change in the speed of the car and no movement of my foot off of the brake, the car's engine revved and suddenly lunged forward, nearly hitting the car in front of me. This has happened more than once since this time - always when the car was not moving (like waiting in drive-thru lines) or was about to come to a complete stop (like slowing down at a red light, for example. ) I have heard from a friend who is a fellow Ford Freestyle owner that this is a problem with the throttle body. She had hers replaced and it cost her over $500!.
On sat. May 14 my Ford Freestyle 2006 lunged forward after stopping and before putting the car into "park". On sun. May 15 my Ford Freestyle 2006 lunged forward again while at a sit still between stopping and putting the car in park!!!.
While idling with my foot on the brake, the car started "surging". Rpm's revved up and had to stand on brake to keep car from moving. Happened a few times, sporadically, then started happening more often. Now doing the same thing in reverse. Several times, when I remove my foot from the brake to back up the car "lurches" 6 or 8 feet before I can stop it again. Yesterday, the vehicle died after doing this, the wrench light came on. Car started immediately, light went off, and drove home with no further incidents. This is now a daily occurance when driving this vehicle. Not certain what is causing this. Some reports cite transmission, some cite throttle body, and some cite the need to have the fuel system professionally "cleaned".
2006 Ford Freestyle started trying to drive forward on its own. Brakes were applied, but you could still feel it pulling and the vehicle started rocking back and forth for a few seconds. We have owned the vehicle for almost 3 months and this was the first time. It was a hot day and the ac was on as reported by other owners of this same vehicle. Since seeing the report this morning I have decided not to run the ac for the time being while the investigation continues. There needs to be a recall because sudden lunging could be very dangerous. I thought maybe it was an isolated incident when my wife told me what had happened, but it appears it is common.
Sunday, may 8, 2011-2006 Ford Freestyle se was parked and running with wife in front passenger seat and daughter in child seat in the back while I was in a computer store purchasing a hard drive connector. When I returned to the car, my wife had the air conditioning on due to the temperature rising while sitting idling in the sun. I put the car in reverse to back out of my parking spot and had the brake on while coasting back, and then the car jumped. . . Like I was pressing the gas pedal. Immediately, I depressed the brake much harder. Then the "wrench" shaped light ilumminated on my dashboard but the car did not stall. I then continued to back out of the spot and then put it in drive to drive home. The wrench light stayed on and the car didn't seem to respond to the gas pedal like normal. I had the gas pedal almost fully depressed to get to 35 miles per hour. My goal was to get the limping car to my driveway about 2 miles away. Once the car was parked in my driveway, I turned it off, then immediately restarted the car. Once it restarted, the wrench light was no longer displayed and the car drove normally. The cars computer had to be "reprogrammed" at the Ford dealer three days prior because the car all of the sudden would not start. Only 34000 miles on the car.
Vehicle thrust forward or back ward fast without notice while ac unit is on to the point you have to use 2 feet on brake paddle. Throttle body to the pcm.
Rear brakes/rotors on 2006 Ford Freestyle once recalled by Ford and replaced now the rear brakes and rotors are all worn out again after 20000 miles. Front brakes have not even been replaced with 45000 miles no problem there. Old parts are avaible.
I was sitting in the car with the air conditioner on for about 10 minutes with my children while my wife went to pick up a few groceries. When we left I put the car reverse and slowly took my foot of the break. The car then jerked backwards as my foot was softly on the break and then again when it was off the break. The car then stalled and the wrench light appeared. This has happened several more times since, mostly when the car is in "drive" with the air conditioner working hard and my foot either softly on the break or just off the break. The car will jerk forward. I'm not sure the component that is malfunctioning, but bellow is an educated guess.
I was pulling into my garage. I was coming to a stop and the car accelerated forward and can within inches of hitting my house. Another time I was leaving my house. I put the car in reverse and with my foot on the brake it accelerated in reverse for several feet.
I have an 06 Freestyle that surges forward or backward with out pressing the accelerator. This has happened numerous times especially when running the a/c. I have to make sure and stay away from other cars at a red light for instance or the car would lunge in the them. I was told it was the throttle body. Havent been able to replace.
2006 Ford Freestyle (1fmzk02106ga45751) lunges forward when the brake pedal is released. Almost rearended vehicle in front of me. It appears this happens more frequently when going really slow in drive thru lanes and trying to park in parking lots. I feel this is a major problem that needs immediate attention. I have become very learing of driving it more than necessary with my kids inside the car. I feel it is not meeting the safety standards that Ford usually stands behind.
2006 Ford Freestyle with approx. 66,500 miles on it, has problems with throttle body as diagnosed by Ford coastal in mobile, al. Before diagnosis, my Freestyle would suddenly lounge or accelerate, uncommanded, while backing up (reverse), out of parking area. Engine light and maintenance "wrench light" soon follow after these series of events. Ford coastal suggests replacing throttle body. This part is not covered by my powertrain warranty. The cost is $920 to be shouldered by the car owner.
Vehicle lunges - noticed lunging in April 2011. When vehicle is ignited and put in park or foot is applied to brake, after driving, vehicle lunges forward - rpm register can rev up to at least "3" or above and then rev down to normal idle. Lunging is worse and more powerful if ac is on. Vehicle has also lunged in reverse when vehicle is ignited and put in reverse while foot is applied to brake. This failure described above, happens each time the car is driven. We have begun turning off the ac when approaching stops and during stops. This tactic causes the lunging to not be as powerful - put is does not correct the problem. No parts have been replaced or repaired. Have not taken the vehicle to a repair-place as personal budget restricts this during some summer months.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle has been giving a warning titled "awd malfunction". No mechanic can find a problem and the warning comes on intermittenly. Evidenlty it is a flaw in the electronic system.
The vehicle sometimes accelerates when the vehicle is in a stopped position. If the brake is not pressed it will lunge forward. I have noticed that it appears to happen when the steering wheel is turned in either direction.
This vehicle unexpectedly surges forward when at a stop and when idling. Even with your foot on the brake the car can still lunge forward five to ten feet. This seems to be an intermittent problem but has happened many times. This is a serious safety issue that needs to be addressed right away before somebody gets injured. I am extremely disappointed in Ford motor company for not addressing this issue yet. It is public record that this is a common problem with this vehicle. I would like to see a recall issued immediately.
One day I put the car in reverse and it lunged uncontrollably. Then when I started driving, it would barely move. The transmission light went on, so I went right to a mechanic. Two in fact because the first couldn't find anything with the transmission and neither could the second. But when I turned it off completely and restarted, it reset itself and it was fine. Didn't happen for a good while, then again. Repeat these steps to now, it is a frequent occurance. Single mom with five year old twins and can't afford this throttle body thing I am reading about. But can't keep driving my kids in the car because it is a safety hazzard as it will just stop moving on the highway. Also, the seatbelt in the center of the second row locked up when the back was folded down and I couldn't lift it back up. Had to cut it to lift the seat back. Now, no seatbelt for middle rider.
I had to get my throttle replaced in my car due to involuntary lunging of the car. I have almost gotten in several accidents when my foot is on the brake and my car still lunges forward. I have to slam on the brakes in order to avoid hitting a car or a person. This is not an optional fix as it is clearly a safety hazard. I have seen several other complaints on this problem and hope that a re-call is issued. I spent nearly 1,000 dollars to get this problem resolved. This is not normal wear and tear. This is absolutely a defect. Please issue a recall as it is only fair to consumers.
While sitting at traffic lights or stop signs car has tendency to lurch forward while foot is on the brake. It also at times will make a sound as if something is hitting the engine when starting.
The car lurches forward or revs ups when under these conditions: ac is on, car is idling such as in a parking lot, stop signs or intersections. This has been gradually worsening until I narrowly missed a person walking in the parking lot and took the car in for repairs. The local dealer replaced the throttle body.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle lunges very quickly while my foot is on the brake after I put it in drive or reverse , usually forcing me to slam on the brake at which point the car stalls. This is very scary as it has happened in crowded parking lots and also into traffic.
My 2006 freestayle will intermittenly accelerate when stopped or going at low speeds. This happens at redlights, carpool line, or anywhere I am idle. It happens on occasion while in reverse. I have tried some of the fuel injection cleaners and will be taking it to be looked at today after a scare at an intersection where it revved up and stalled. I have seen many post about it being te throttle body but I for one can't affoed a problem that seems to be er related. It is a safety concern for me right now as I was almost hit at the intersection. This has been going on/off for a few months and at first it was so slight I did not notice. Of note, my air compressor needs to be replaced amd I have read that these problems seem to going hand in hand.
2006 Ford Freestyle. Approx: 65,000 miles. Wrench light came on; since then the vehicle at times will lurch forward with just a little bit of gas or if you are not pushing the break completely down. The rpms run really high with just a little bit of gas or just at idle. Car lurches forward when shifting from park to drive. When trying to get on the freeway, car will barely get going. I am assuming this is the throttle body problem that all the Ford Freestyles seem to be having. Also noticed that it seems to occur more often while sitting at an idle for just a few minutes. Have not had repairs yet, as this part is very costly and I am just learning now that this is a common problem with Ford Freestyle.
We had been driving for approx. 3 1/2 hours and pulled over to a gas station. When I went to drive it again, I put it in reverse to back out of a parking spot and it lunged. I put on my brake fast. . It scared me. It had never done that before. It made it the rest of the trip. Since then, it lunges every now and then.
My car would die and then start again. It also would surge forward with the brake applied. The dealer said it was the throttle body and replaced it, which was not covered on the extended warranty plan. It is now happening again (September of 2012). I have researched this and found that many people have said they have had the same problem, some replacing this part twice during their ownership of the vehicle. This is an extremely expensive problem and it needs to be investigated. It should not be something that has to be fixed multiple times. I feel that a recall on this vehicle should be made.
When at a stop light or at a drive thru car will lurch forward when in drive. Foot is usually on the brake pedal at the time, because it happens when I let off the brake to accelerate but the car accelerates on its own. The rpms go from 1 to 4 with no foot on the accelerater. Air conditioning is always on when it happens. It also happens in parking lots. It is always when at a stop, getting ready to go. Luckily I now know when it will happen and under what condition and have not hit anyone.
When shifted from p to r or d, the vehicle surges or lunges. Very difficult to control even with foot firmly on the brake. Worse when a/c is on. The engine races, and rpms increase. Vehicle was purchased used last year, at approximately 48k miles. Noticed the problem shortly after purchase, but the problem seemed almost imaginary, then went away over the winter months. The problem has returned and seems worse at this time (summer 2011). Definitely not imaginary, definitely dangerous. Occurs in parking lots and intersections, where there are often many pedestrians and vehicles in close quarters. Engine light has come on, mechanic says service codes indicate throttle problem. Hope to have this repaired tomorrow.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle has started trying to run away with me whenever I've been sitting in a parking space with the engine on and the air conditioning on. When I put the car into gear either forward or reverse it shoots out of the space causing me to have to jam on the brakes. The first time this happened last June 2010,I crashed into a car that was parked behind me. It did not happen again for several weeks. When it happened again the weather was extremely hot so, I thought maybe the hot weather had caused it. It did not occur during the winter. Now that the weather is getting hot it's happening again. I am very anxious every time I have to drive anywhere when it's hot outside. I talked to my son-in-law about it and he said maybe it had something to do with the transmission. But, they check the transmission when they change my oil and have not told me of any problems.
Vehicle lunges/accelorates when idling or just after shifting in to gear or reverse. It can cause a big enough surge that I've almost hit a car or object in fron/behind me several times but have been lucky enough to avoid that. It occurs daily.
On several occasions, the car surges unexpectedly while idling (e. G. While stopped at a light, or immediately after starting the ignition). The effect appears to be exaggerated when the air conditioner is turned on. The throttle body/transmission maintenance light has come on during a few of the incidents. The throttle body control has been replaced once.
I have a 2006 Freestyle. 2 years ago I had to have the throttle body replaced due to unintended acceleration that got to be dangerous. This fixed the problem, but now I am again having the exact same issues, especially when the air is on. I now have a teen driving and I am very concerned for her welfare. I already paid 800+ to repair something Ford should have repaired at their cost. Now I have the same issue. Does someone have to get hurt before Ford recalls this part?.
Out of the blue, my car was jumping forward (or backward if in reverse) without me pushing on the gas pedal. In one instance, when stopped at a red light, the car jumped partway into the intersection which was very frightening! also had an incident stopped at a red light where car jumped forward nearly hitting the car in front of me. Also experienced some loss of power, inability to accelerate, while driving. The wrench light came on the dashboard. Took into the Ford dealership. They replaced the electronic throttle body. Part was very hard to find, and we had to pay for a rental car for a week. Intially told the part was on back order and may take a couple months!.
Our 2006 Freestyle was purchased in 2008 and had no issues for the first year, however, after that we started having problems with it. The engine will race and the vehicle will lunge forward or backward, depending on whether it is in a forward gear or reverse, you must have your foot on the brake anytime you put the vehicle in gear. While this mostly happens when you are entering or exiting a parking space, it has also occurred while stopped at a light or waiting to pull onto the highway. Quite often the vehilce will even die when the brakes are applied when the vehicle lunges while in the process of backing out of a parking space. Sometimes when this happens the wrench and service engine lights will come on, after time they will go off. Occassionally after this happens the vehicle will seem to have lost some of it's power and will not accelerate normally, sometimes pulling off of the road and restarting the engine will cause it to run correctly. The vehicle had less than 50,000 miles on it when it started acting up and now has over 100,000 miles and is still having these problems, so I don't think the mileage actually has anythng to do with it. We have not seen where the temperature outside or whether the a/c is on has any effect on this problem. After looking on this site and seeing that the first complaint of this problem was written in 2008 it just amazes me that nothing has been done about this issue! this is a very dangerous problem and something should be done about it, had we known this was a problem before we purchased our vehicle, with certainty we would not have endangered our family's safety as well as that of the general public by purchasing this vehicle.
Sudden "lurching" acceleration when idling, requiring a quick response to stop before crashing into other vehicles or lurching forward into oncoming traffic, or to avoid hitting pedestrians walking near the car. It happens both in forward and reverse, and is worse when the air conditioning is running. Many times it will stall the car in the middle of the intersection. Have had many near misses. Ford now says it is probably the throttle body requiring approx. $800 to replace it. This is after we have had it into the dealership's service dept. Numerous times and paid to have the problem tested/fixed to no avail.
Each summer for the last few years when the temperatures reach over 100 degrees, we have a problem with the car surging while either parking or backing up. It seems to happen most often on short trips, usually when the air conditioner is still on high. The brakes will stop the car but you must keep your foot over the brakes even to back out of the driveway. This does not happen any other time of year. This year, 2011, the car sometimes stalls out when surging and now the check engine light has come on. The 2 codes that came up is p2106 throttle actuator control system forced limited & p061b internal control module torque calculation. The current mileage on the car is 34922.
On several occasions my 06 Ford Freestyle has had and unexplained jerk/lunge in motion. We purchased the car in oct 08 and the problems started Nov 08. I have gotten to the point where I have had enough, and my faith in Ford is slowly wilting away. The jerk/lunge normally occurs while coming to a stop at red light or stop sign, or going idle speed in the following places drive-thru, parking lot, while reversing or parking the car. Today when I got back from the grocery store I was reversing into my garage and the car started to lunge I applied the break and it continued to jerk about a foot till it stopped. I was not sure the car would stop, this scared me half to death, I kept on thinking what if someone was behind me. I tried again and it happened 2 more times before I shut the car off. I then turned everything off in the car started the car again and put it into reverse and everything was fine. I was very grateful that this happened in my own drive way. If I was in a parking lot I could have hit a car with it moving a foot and I could have hit someone. The jerking/lunging in the car is very sporadic and has happened while my husband drove the car as well, so it is not operator error. It is so sporadic that this action is hard to recreate at a given notice you can not predict the time but you can anticipate that it will happen at least 3 times a week. Some may think that if it is hard to recreate then it is not a problem, but if it happens at least 3 times a week that is something to look at especially when you are thinking about human life. A vehicle is not a luxury item especially to a military family like we are. It is a necessity that should be dependable and the manufacturer should stand behind there products. I have two small children and wonder what to do next. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope there will be a resolution to this soon.
My 2006 Ford Freestyle started to jerk and when stopped at a stop sign or pulling into traffic would accelerate uncontrollably. I had the throttle switch replaced only a month after I got the car and it began to do the same thing shortly after and the warning said misfire so I had new spark plugs put in. The following summer same proplems but this time I had to have new coils put in. I drove the car for a month and while driving in traffic it would completly shut down, almost causing an accident, this happened about four times. It now has completly shut down and will not start at all. I have replaced batteries, taken it to several dealers and all say there is nothing they can do that it is "probably" a computer problem, I have since parked the car as it is unsafe and undrivable. Help.
Vehicle surges when idling in gear and at slow speeds when a/c is on. When in drive or reverse.
Multiple times, it seems, when we have the air conditioner on, our vehicle accelerates on its own. We have almost hit others in parking lots, intersections and on the road because of this. Sometimes, it even accelerates on its own when the brakes are applied. Our vehicle has also shut off when the air conditioner is on.
The car will surge on it's own at different times: sitting at a red light ~normal misc idling, while in reverse, while making full turns. It will also sometimes die right after the surge, but not every time. It is worse in the summer during high temps, but will sometimes do it in colder temps as well. It does this when you have your foot on the brake, also when it has been in parked (while idling). At a drive thru window on one occasion, it surged over 5 times and was restarted over 5 different times, all at same drive thru window. (maybe 10 minutes at the window) . Additionally the driver front seat, seat warmer has stopped working, the keypad on the driver's car door to open the car doors will not function, several lights inside the dash do not light up and/or very dim, the middle row seat 2/3, the seat on the left side will not fold down.
I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle which has been having a surging problem. This has been accruing everyday now. It happens more when put in reverse you need to hit the brakes and than it stalls. I have found out that many owners are experiencing this problem. The dealers seem to have a variety of solutions but no real fix. Most say it is a throttle body issue, others a electrical one. It is only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed.
1. There were no events leading to this failure. 2. The failure is that while driving and without notice my 2006 Freestyle goes into fail safe mode which causes the rpms to rapidly increase and the accelerator to not respond to my actions. This has been occurring since my Freestyle turned 50,000 miles. This failure happens everyday and multiple times per day. The consequences from this failure are near fatal accidents. 3. My vehicle was brought into the Ford dealership from which I purchased it. I was told multiple times they could find nothing wrong, but they could investigate the transmission at a cost of $1800. 00. I did not have them do that. I did bring it to a transmission specialist at a cost of $1600. 00. They would not warranty the work as the only parts available from Ford were reconditioned and Ford then required the replaced part be shipped back to them. I drove 1000 miles without an occurrence and the problem returned.
We have owned our 2006 Freestyle since Aug. 2007. After 6 months of purchasing the vehicle, we noticed an occasional unintended acceleration problem. The problem became more frequent over the last few months. Recently, my wife was trying to parallel park when the Freestyle suddenly lurched backward narrowly missing the car behind ours. The car stalled when she applied the brakes. She restarted the car, and again it lurched, this time dangerously close to the car in front of her. Again, the car stalled when she applied the brakes. Our children were as frightened as my wife. We took our Freestyle in on multiple occasions and the cause of the issue could not be diagnosed even after we explained what happened. We took our Freestyle to a Ford dealership who finally diagnosed (with “75% confidence) the unintended acceleration stemming from a defective throttle body. The cost to replace the throttle body is nearly $1000. 00. Upon research of this issue with Ford Freestyles, we feel that the unintended acceleration problem is cause for Ford to recall and repair these vehicles at no cost to us before my family or other Freestyle owners are injured or killed.
At low speed 0-5 mph +/- vehicle will suddenly surge. This can occur when moving forward, but most often occurs when vehicle is in reverse, as in backing into a parking space. The surge is very evident -- the engine revs and the vehicle speeds up. This will occur regardless of whether the accelerator or brake pedals are depressed. There is no evident correlation between the surge and other activities such as air conditioner use, weather conditions, etc. However, there does seem to a be a correlation with the vehicle's direction of travel and, possibly, engine temp. My observation is that the surge almost exclusively occurs 1) when the vehicle is in reverse; 2) at low speed or idle; and 3) after the engine warms.
Bought in Aug 06. Air unit working great! had to turn up the temp, because we got to cold. In June 07 started using unit and was not blowing out cold air. Driver side blew out around 55-60 and pass. Side blew out 65-70 air, even though the temp was set on 60. This car has the dual temp controls. Had in to one dealer 6 times! they rechared twice and replace the control unit because it was different temps on each side. Did not fix the problem. Then took to another dealer in next twon, they have had the car for 2 weeks now! called and talked to Ford and a tech, still have not found the problem or fixed it. They do admit there is a problem and it should blow out around 35-40. Very frustrated! at what point do they just relpace ever part conected to the air condition? I just want my car back and fixed.
Vehicle engine accelerates to approximately 2100 rpms while in gear forcing it to lundge foward or reverse without the interaction of driver this problem seems to occur while at idle, and deceleration to stop, malfunction is becoming more problematic with mileage and age of vehicle.
