I had left the vehicle idling in park while I went to check the mailbox. When I gotback I shifted into reverse and when I took my foot off the brake the vehicle lunged back almost striking a pedistrian I have complained about this before and I notice the investigation has been open since may 2011 I have also noticed there have been alot of complaints about this problem on the web. Just an fyi it seems to lunge when taking off in forward or reverse. I also noticed there is a class action suit against Ford for this problem in californa.
My car (2007 Ford Freestyle) was stopped at the drive through and a local eatery. My foot was on the brake and the car started surging/lunging several times. I almost hit the car in front of me. It scared me. The wrench light and the engine light came on and the car cut off. I have the extended warranty, but of course the throttle body was not covered. Upon investigating my problem, I found out the lunging has been a problem with many other Freestyles and an investigation had been started. Will there be a recall? this repair cost me almost $700 and I feel that Ford should pay for this repair. Any help would be appreciated!.
While idling in a fast food line with my foot on the brake, the car suddenly lunged forward approximately 2 feet. After approximately another 10 minutes idling in the line, I got my order and was slowly exiting the drive thru lane, when I had to stop to let 3 pedestrians pass by. With my foot firmly on the brake, it lunged forward another time approximately 3 feet, narrowly missing the last pedestrian. The car then stalled. After restarting it, it took over 1 mile of roadway to get the speed up from 0 to 65, with the gas pedal completely depressed the entire time. The cruise control would also not work. The air conditioning was on and the outside temperature was approximately 100 degrees. There were no warning lights on the dashboard when the lunging occurred, however, the wrench icon lit up after I restarted the car and remained on for the 26 mile drive home. Once at home, I turned the car off and restarted it and the wrench icon was no longer lit up. I have not driven the vehicle since this incident for fear of injuring myself or someone else.
Ford frestyle 2007 lunged and almost wrecked today. Then died again have filed a complaint just updating another one.
While trying to park my car, there is a sudden "surge" in the car that sent it propelling forward while my foot was on the brake. The vehicle shut off and after restarting did it several more times. The event occurred with the air conditioner on and the temperature was in the lower 100's. After checking the code, it was a "po61b". The code was cleared and the problems reoccurred after about 2 days.
The part with a safety issue is the throttle body on the Ford Freestyle. The car will get a surge of power and lurch forward when in traffic, parking lots, and at stop lights. If the driver is not able to brake in time, the vehicle could hit and/or injure a person or other vehicle in front of them. This is a problem that Ford is aware of and has not issued a recall, despite numerous complaints. As the surging power continues to be a problem, the vehicle may also completely lose power while in motion, causing the driver to have no ability to avoid a collision as the vehicle loses power very suddenly.
Car lunged backwards causing me to bump into post at gas station causing minor damage to rear bumper. Car has repeatedly lunged bot forward and backwards.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle sel problems started out with the wrench light coming on occasionally when the outside temperature reached 90 degrees. It would surge violently when put in reverse, and had no power after that. Turning the engine off and re-starting would clear the problem. It now surges violently when backing up,or manuvering at slow speeds . It runs fine on the open hi-way,but will stall at a stop. The engine races when shifting from forward to reverse,or into park. I have read where others are experiencing this same problem, and yet Ford motors continues to ignore the issue. I also read where hundreds of dollars have been spent by others ,and still having problems. I have scheduled an appointment with my local dealer for 8/08/11,and dreading the cost to repair a problem that has been apparent for some time.
I was pulling into a parking spot in my 2007 Ford Freestyle when all of a sudden without warning the car lunged forward. My foot was not on the accelerator in fact it was lightly pressed on the brake as I was easing into the spot. For several months now we have been experiencing a humming noise with the rpm's hovering above normal. A reduction in power occurs at lower speeds especially with a/c on. Problem seems to be getting worse, have read numerous complaints with the same mechanical problems in the same vehicle as my own. Appears from previous reports read that the issue has to do with a defective throttle body.
Our 2007 Ford Freestyle surges uncontrollably when idling. The dealer states that the throttle body is defective and needs to be replaced.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle, on several occasions, has surged, or lunged on it's own, usually at low speeds and without my foot being anywhere near the gas pedal. I am listing one date on which this has happened, but it has happened many times and I am worried this could cause injury. Most of the time it happens in parking lots, where people might be walking near my vehicle when it happens.
I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle. About 4 or 5 months ago when I would put the car in reverse or drive (from park) the engine would speed up and it would surge. It would do it maybe once a week. It has been doing it everyday for the past 2 months. It is very scary. When it surges, you have to push harder on the brake to stop it from crashing into something or speeding off down the road. When you push harder on the brake the engine shuts off. I called the Ford dealership where I bought the vehicle and it was going to cost me over $940 to fix a problem(throttle body) that is not my fault nor was caused by me,and many other Ford Freestyles are having the same problem. There are 5 (including mine) that I know of that are having this problem, just in the small town that I live in. But the dealership will not fix it unless I pay $940,because Ford has not recalled it.
While starting 2007 Freestyle there was a very sudden reving engine sound followed by the car lunging forward. The car was still engaged in park position, my right foot positioned over brake but not on it as I was about to shift into reverse. The reving & lunge stopped as suddenly as it had started & I went on to back up without any problem. The incident concerned me because the car did move forward some. . Inches, maybe a foot. It moved enough that my bushes in front of my bedroom window were touching the front rim/bumper of car. I have had many more incidences like this one in the past few weeks. All are unpredictable. Car has lunged while in drive and reverse as well. It has also "sped off" immediately after engaged in drive. It will accelerate without my foot on the pedal. It will stop when I brake but by then it has already covered some ground. The car is having different/opposite acceleration problems when I stop at signs/lights. The car won't accelerate at all with the pedal pushed all the way. Then it will eventually catch and accelerate. I have had what I think is the power go on & off while accelerating & slowing down, with panel lights go out then on. The steering isn't effected. The engine itself sounds as normal as any day. My car has 29,329 miles. I had to replace all brakes last week. Brought car to shop & was redirected to the Ford dealer. Mechanic gave me code p0701 along with brief explanation of problem. I'm afraid to drive it. It's not safe to drive. However brief the incidences are, the driver is still without any control over where the car goes for that time. The lunging itself could cause injury to driver. I had my Freestyle taken to dealer this morning. I have not heard from service dept. Yet. I have seen huge cost incurred by others. The service dept. Got defensive & abrupt so I am glad that these Ford issues are being investigated.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle would not accelerate when driving, pushed gas pedal all the way down to achieve 20-30 mph when going from stopped position under traffic light. Also, when putting the car in reverse and accelerating slowly, the car would jerk. When releasing foot from gas pedal, car jerked also instead of slowly decelerating. I had this repaired at a Ford dealership and was charged for repair of throttle body and related items. Final charge was $ 1,041. 93.
This car has been lurching forward when put in park for the last month or so. On the date of the incident, when I pulled out of the parking space the engine hesitated a couple of times like it was going to cut off. It lurched forward just before I pulled out into the road. As I came to a yield sign I had to stop for traffic. When it was my turn to go, the car moved forward but as if the emergency brake was on (slow and labored). I drove to the next parking lot and pulled into a parking space and called my husband to come get me and we took the car straight to the dealership. It was Sunday evening so we left it there with a detailed report as to what happened. By Monday evening we picked up the repaired car and contacted this organization. The throttle body -air intake was replaced.
I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle that lunges without touching the gas , when I park and sit for a moment as soon as I put it in drive it lunges forword , sometimes when im going to park in a parking lot and stop and the let off the gas it lunges forword , I do not know why it does this but some one will get hurt if this is not fixed and Ford dealer cant tell me why it does this .
Thankfully to date there have not been any crashes or injuries to discuss. However, we have a 2007 Ford Freestyle. It is a great and safe car to carry our family. It has been great on long road trips. About 1 or so years ago, we noticed these small ‘surges’ that the car would do when slowing into a parking spot, pulling into the driveway, or parked at a traffic light. Like any good american, we ignored it, thinking it was nothing. We keep the car well maintained, and just ‘chalked’ it up to chance. Over the past 4 months or so it has gotten much worse. Just two days ago I was driving the car and pulling slowly into a parking spot. There was a cement median in front of me. I wasn’t talking the phone, texting, listening to loud music, in fact I was going to a yoga class. I had my foot over the break, as I was pulling in slowly, and the car surged. I had to really press my foot really hard into the break. This same thing happened to me when I was as I approached a stop light. I was slowing down, going less than 5 mph and had my foot over the break. All of a sudden the car surges and I find myself slamming on the break pedal. It is ‘unnerving’ to say the least. My husband spoke with my father in law, and he sent us a link. As it turns out, this has been an issue. The symptoms that are described online are exactly what is happening to us. I called my local Fordland dealer in lakewood, colorado, and he said he never heard of this. I have also called Ford customer service and they have ‘escalated’ the case. I hope this is helpful. Thank you!.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle lurches forward/backward and cuts off when being moved from a parked position. However, on Friday in rush hour traffic my vehicle cut off completely in the middle of the highway and I went in to oncoming traffic lanes. Thankfully my four children were not in the car and the light for oncoming traffic was red at the time and I was not hit. I was told by the Ford dealership that it was due to the defective electronic throttle body which I have now had replaced.
On a hot summer day in the chicago, IL suburban area (7/21/2011, outside air temperature of 100 degrees f), I was completely stopped at a red traffic light. I was the first car in the lane of traffic awaiting the light to transition to green in order to proceed safely through the intersection. Suddenly and while my foot was completely depressing the brake pedal of the automatic transmission 2007 Ford Freestyle (with approximately 44,000 miles), the vehicle jumped forward (I. E. , lunged) approximately 10-feet. While there was no other vehicle in front of my Freestyle, no collision was experienced. However, the lunge was significant enough that had another party's vehicle been in front of my Freestyle, I am very confident that a collision would have been experienced. The vehicle dashboard "wrench" symbol then illuminated. I was able to drive the vehicle to the Ford authorized service and sales dealer. The vehicle was slow to respond to acceleration in-route to the repair center. In other words, the vehicle "limped" to the service center. The Ford service representatives reported their diagnostic code readings were indicative of the need for a new throttle body assembly. Once replaced on 7/22/2011, the vehicle is performing as expected in a normal fashion. I have the defective part in my possession, and I am working to provide the unit to a NHTSA representative.
Unexpected acceleration. Vechicle "surges" unexpectedly while foot is on brake. While driving yesterday on I-275 (n) at the I-96 junction, traffic was heavy and had to slow down and in some cases, stop the vehicle. Vehicle "lunged" unexpectedly several times while foot was firmly on brake. Vechile "check engine light" icon turned on as well as a " wrench" icon on the left side of the odometer. Once the icons appeared the vechile "stalled" and needed to be restarted. Pulled off to the side of freeway, turned engine off and waited approximately 10 minutes. Restarted vechile and noticed that the "check engine" icon remained on but the small "wrench" icon was off. Drove home without further incident. Going to Ford dealership this morning.
Several times my vehicle surges forward when moving at slow speeds or braking. This has happened while driving forward and reverse. More noticeable when the a/c is on. Even when my foot is on the brake . I can hear the engine revving when this is happening - even though my foot is on the brake. It also loses power on the freeway and becomes very sluggish in acceleration. The vehicle would lose power unexpectedly when driving 10 mph and up. Also I had a minor accident, the vehicle accelerated by itself and I hit a wall in my garage. Also, it would not go forward and when put in reverse it would accelerate--this happened in the middle of traffic during rush hour. We finally took it to the dealer to have it looked at, they told us it was the throttle body and our master tech guarantee did not cover the expense. All they did was clean the throttle up (is expected to have more problems later) because the cost was over $700 and we cannot afford it at the time. So, after we took it out of the shop the car is now only accelerating to no more than 4000.

I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle. When the air conditioning is on the car will jump forward. The wrench light will come on and I have to turn the car off and back on to get rid of the light. Yesterday it did the same thing and now the engine light is staying on and will not go off. So far I have kept from hitting anything by reacting quicking and slamming on my brakes or turning the air off or sitting with my foot on the brake but one of these days I may hit a car or a person. Very dangerous situation.
When I am going at a low speed the car goes dead. Example being when I turn in my driveway or into a parking space. Also the car surges and jumps forward or sometimes backwards when I put it in reverse or park. It is beginning to happen all the time and is dangerous! I am so frustrated I don't know what to do. I actually ran across a site where tons of others are having the same problem. I do not have 750. 00 plus to pay on fixing something that Ford is well aware they fouled up and did nothing about. As with all the other cases my a/c quit long ago. I feel they should be held accountable and a recall issued so they can pay for the repair of an item that should have been sold in proper working order. Thank you.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle lunges in both forward and reverse occasionally. Usually heavily applying the break will stop the car. This typically happens at very low speeds when I am parking the car of getting out of a parking space (at the grocery store, ect. . . ). The intances occur more often in the summer time, in hot weather and when the a/c is on. It is a very dangerous defect, especially since it occures often in parking lots or at school when I am dropping my kids off, as there are lots of pedestrians. I have submitted a previous complaint on this issue, but have heard nothing. This problem has occured for the past 3 years.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been having an issue with lurching forward and backwards when the brakes are applied at low speeds with the a/c on. Several close misses of almost rearending someone due to this issue in drive trus and other places whene slowing down to a stop at a redlight or stop sign. The rpm will raise and feels like the car wants to go foward or reverse depending on what gear the car is is then the engine will cut off and the check engine light (wrench) will go on on the dash. Does not happen all the time. Taking it to the dealer next week to see if they can retrieve the code that may be stored on the car's mail computer.
2005 and 2007 Ford Freestyle. In warm weather the car will suddenly surge when stopped with the brake applied, slowing with the break, or reversing with the brake pressed. Believed to be the throttle body and confirmed by auto repair shop. Research has revealed tons of owners with similar problems wiht the throttle body on these vehicles. Seems quite dangerous to have your car lurch out into an intersecction.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle sel has a lunging action when the car is in drive. This has been happening since I purchased the vehicle last October. The lunging would have caused an accident Sunday if there wasn't ample space between me and the car in front of me. I didn't see a recall on the vehicle, but I have seen complaints and decided to submit this. Hopefully, this problem will be evaluated before it causes a fatality.
2007 Ford Freestyle crossover - the car will suddenly lunge forward, sometimes the motor shuts down and the "red wrench" light comes on. This has been happening frequently in the last month. I have called the dealership and they say they think it may be due to throttle problems. Although I have not done an extensive investigation into when the above happens, I have noticed when the air conditioner is on high, it happens. This may be coincidental but nevertheless I have noticed the surge when the air condition is on. I have researched the internet for others with this problem and there certainly seems to be many people with the exact same problem. There is definitely a safety issue with this in that if you do not currently have your foot on the brake, the car will lunge forward (possibly hitting another car, a pedestrian or have even having a deadly accident. This problem needs to be considered a recall by Ford and repaired free of charge by Ford. This should be done before someone is seriously harmed.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle began to lunge forward while my foot was on the break. The wrench light, engine and battery lights came on as well before my vehicle shut itself off. It has happened numerous times but Ford could not find the problem and told me they had never heard of this problem. I notice that it happens most when the a/c is on.
About three months ago I bought a 2007 Ford Freestyle. One day when me, my daughter, and my granddaughter went shopping , in warner robins georgia my car stopped right in the middle of traffic and cut off . We just about had people hit us in all different directions. So I turned the car off and turned it back on and drove into the parking lot and called the people I bought the car from. They told us to bring the car too them. Well a couple days later when I was suppose to take the car to them it turned off two times in one day! I had bought all of the available warrenty I could by when I bought the car, but today the dealership called me back and said that it is the throttle body, and that no matter if you fix it, it can continue to mess up (and it is not on the warrenty!!!) , and the cost of the part to fix it is 670. 00. I am unsatisifed and scared to drive it and I feel like its a big safety risk!!! I don't want to continue driving it with it turning off in the middle of traffic. It makes me scared and I am nervous for my family!! I have read on the internet that alot of people has had problems with the throttle body for there 2007 Ford Freestyle!!.
Ford freesyle 2007 I have had 2 throttle bodies replaced car continues to surge in forward coming out of reverse. Just waiting for a big wreck Ford does not care what can I do.
I just purchased a Ford Freestyle 2007 and took it to a tach day after the purchase due to the fact that the car surges and cuts of and then will loose power. Tech advised me he couldnt find anything wrong test drove it several times and it never happened after we got home with the car it being to do it a few more times this seems to be something that will get you killed or your family killed I sure hope Ford relizes if someone does get hurt but the car surging like this that the company will be at fault and I hope they fix the issue soon for good.
The wrench lights come on and the vechicle isle up when at s top light or just stoping vechicle launhes forward with use of brake. Can't use ac vechicle will vechicle will launch also and then sut off completly. Very unsafe. . .
Repeatedly car surges forward from a stop when at idle and air conditioning is running. If foot is lightly on brake, car will surge forward into intersection.
My Ford 2007 Freestyle was positively, certainly accelerating on it's own. It was at times terrifying. It kept getting worse. It happened in different degrees of severity and length of time. It also happened in two different ways. The first way was when I was either simply driving but predominantly when I began to slow down for a red light or to park. At that very second, the car would literally jump ahead in a sudden, mortifying tremendous acceleration. I would try to restrain it by stepping on the breaks as hard as I could. The car would not respond to the breaks, the thrust was as strong or at times, stronger. Most times it kept going for a bit, but with my heart pounding in fear that I would hit another car or a pedestrian, I would find myself truly off my seat, solely on the break with all my possible strength; and the car would die. When I was at a light and the green came on, I was having to restart the car quickly to keep with traffic flow. Many times, after restarting the car and driving slowly and trying to stay away from other cars, the car would go on, but with a hiccup on and off. Then things would seem normal, but I never knew for how long. The second way in which the car self accelerated, was when I turned it on to start driving. Again the acceleration would be so sudden and I never knew how strongly. Some times I was very close to hitting the car behind me in a parking lot, or anywhere I was parked. I had to take extra, precautions to make absolutely sure, more than usual, than no persons would be even remotely in range of my car when I turned it on, because I never knew, depending on the acceleration force, how far the "jump" would be. This problem kept me in anxiety and uncertainty. I took my car twice to my regular car shop, had to take it to Ford dealer, only place to find the equipment needed. Person there knew about same problem in other Fords.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle. After the second year of owning this vehicle I had problems with the accelarator. It would accelerate when slowing down to a stop sign/light/or parking and also when I would go in reverse. At times it would shut down completely. I went in for service at Ford and they couldnt figure it out the problem since it didnt occure all the time. Lately the problem got worse I went in for service and they finally figured out it was the throttle. I have an extended warranty which covered the $800 + bill although I believe this should have been a recall. I was very fortunated I didnt get into an accident over this problem.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle reves up by itself. When backing into my parking space I have to keep my foot on breaks back up very very slowly due to the car wanting to lung back on its own. Not able to use my a/c or heater. When a/c is on the car really reves up and then eventually cuts off with all the light being lit up , the rench and ingine lites up, then I have to wait about 5 minutes before the car cuts back on. This is very dangerous as when im waiting at a stop light the car will lung forward by itself, I could hit someone accidently or I could just run into another car. The car seems to have a mind of its own, its scary. I pay for this car and I cant even use the a/c or heater my kids and I just have to suffer. I cant afford all these problems as I have six children to feed. They need to take care of this problem it could be life or death.
2007 Ford Freestyle; continual surging forward and backward; stalling; inability to accelerate; wrench and engine lights come on; unable to repair because everytime it happens, by the time I get it into service, it is running well again. More recently spoke with sevice after occurance and he is very familiar with the problem, repairs them all the time so I am scheduled for an $800 throddle body replacement tomorrow; the problem leaves me vulnerable while driving so I am unable to wait for recall, it needs to be replaced immediately.
We purchased a used 2007 Freestyle in Nov. 2010, when warm weather came around we realized the air conditioner did not work so we had it fixed. Since then on several occasions our Freestyle has surged, or lunged on it's own, usually at low speeds and even when my foot is on the brake. This has really scared me several times as the majority of the time I'm parking and have been close on three accounts to hitting the car in front or back of me. I also was at a stop sign in a parking lot and someone was walking in the crosswalk in front on me and it surged forward, thank goodness no one was hurt.
I purchased a 2007 Ford Freestyle on may 05 2011 and started havig problems withi in the second month of having the car but I also heard a loud nois when you turn the wheel sharply to the right,ad I told the fianance person and he said ok we take care of that and they never did. Then now we are in the third month of having this vehical, and now it cutts of right in the middle of me backing up and the ac on and I would have to turn the car off and restart again. Then the car acts as though its ravving up ad you could be a stop light and it will rav up and you would have to really place your foot hard on the break to keep it from hittig another car infront of you. Took the car several times to the dealership and the saif the first time they did not kmow. They did a diagnostic check up and said they could not find anythig. The last time they tell me its the throttle body and then the gentlman proceed to tell me thats been a big problem with these cars since they have came out. So this company knows they are selling lemons to people and they dont even care.
I was going through a drive through and my Freestyle lunged forward several feet before I had to slam on the brakes. The vehicle then shut off and all the lights in the dash came on. I did have the air conditioning on really high because it was 95 degrees in st. Louis today. My vehicle started lunging a few months ago and it has done it 6 more times today since the worst episode, but the vehicle has not shut off again since I was in the drive through this afternoon. This is very dangerous because if a car or person had been in front of me I would have hit them very forcefully. The problem has progressively gotten worse.
2007 Ford Freestyle that lunges forward or backward depending on what gear it is in. I saw where Ford was looking into this for a possible recall, mine does this on occasion. But 5/30/11 mine did it very badly and the car died. The check engine light and transmission light both came on. I did get the car started and back into a parking spot, with it lunging forward and my foot on the brake. The car is at carmax now as I had bought the extended warranty they offer. Waiting on the outcome.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle wagon surges when I'm at low speeds, especially when I'm backing up or moving into a parking space. This has occurred the last 2 summers. I don't remember it happening in cool or cold weather. This happens almost every time I drive. We haven't done anything to fix it yet because we just found out that this is a common problem with this model.
2007 Ford Freestyle lunges forward when we do not have our foot on the accelerator. It seems to be worse when the a/c is being used (I. E. Summer months). This has almost caused accidents on several occasions when we first noticed it. Now we try to remember to be aware but we want it fixed. We have taken it to be fixed and they can't figure out what the cause is. Please help us get this fixed or recalled.
Surging on 2007 Ford Freestyle (VIN: 1fmdk021x7ga29519) -- eventually caused traffic accident in parking lot while I was pulling forward. After taking the vehicle to the dealer more than once for repair, we have been told it was possibly a software upgrade or throttle body issue, then possible transmission service repair, and ultimately they could not replicate the issue. Our last visit we had a transmission service and 2 weeks later my vehicle surged and I hit a parked car. This happens frequently when I am traveling in reverse (such as pulling out of a parking space or backing out of my driveway) or forward at a slow speed (such as pulling into a parking spot or making a u-turn after sitting at a traffic light). I am very concerned because our dealer has not been able to address the issue. This time my child was in the car with me and we were lucky to have had no injuries only damage to the cars.
Thottle body on 2007 Ford Freestyle and transmission bad and car kept lunging forward. Dealer ship will repair but there had been many with the same problem.
Car lunges accelerates forward and backwards while drving in and out of driveway or parking spaces. It has happened numerous times over the last year.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle seems to lurch forward while idleing. It has happened on several occasions with the most recent occurance also including the engine just shuting off by itself. It lurches uncontrollably and I'm afraid it may hit another car in front of me.
I had my brakes repaired this spring. Two weeks ago I had to have my a/c compressor replaced. On 5/8/11 I was backing out of a parking space with my foot applied gently to the break when my Ford Freestyle suddenly surged and then shut off. When I restarted it the wrench light was lit. I took it to the dealership the next day and was told I needed a new throttle body, not covered under powertrain warranty as it is outside the engine. I researched these issues online when I got home and there are many discussions regarding all of these issues. Some even state after repair the vehicle continues to surge and has even hit other vehicles.
When idling, or just beginning to go forward, car lunged/surged forward. When just beginning to go in reverse, car lunged/surged backward. Lunges/surges increased in frequency and speed. The dealership service dept. Determined that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced.
My Ford Freestyle surges in direction the transmission is in. If in dirve it will surge forward, if in reverse it will surge backwords. This occurs every time I drive the vehicle. I'm afraid I am going to hit a pedestrian while trying to back out of a parking space. I'm also concerned when my daughter uses this vehicle because of her inexperience. This problem was identified to be the throttle body and is most predominant during warm weather or when the vehicle is thouroughly warmed up. Had the same problem with our 2006 Ford Freestyle and was waiting for a replacement throttle body when the vehicle was totalled in an accident. Now having the same problem with our 2007 modle.
Involuntary and unexpected sudden "lunging" when starting, stopping, or at "idle" speed. Usually "lunges" forward when light pressure is applied to brake at "idle". Foot is not necessarily on the accelerator. Occurs in garage, parking lots, and at stop light. Could result in personal injury or damage.
This car is a dangerous weapon. It almost ran over my child. Literally. It self accelerated while she was crossing in front of it. If I had not been paying attention and hit the brake immediately she would be dead, I am sure of it. This car self accelerates in forward and reverse, with no warning while idle. I had it fixed once (it was the famous throttle body) they cleaned it. Car ran fine for a while then started doing it again. Can't drive the car for fear it will do it again. Can't trust Ford to fix it as they have lied continually and did not fix it when they said they did the first time. Can't sell it b/c I would feel terrible if someone got hurt b/c I passed it on. I also had to replace the transmission once and now am having transmission troubles again. I believe the carbon build up on these throttle bodies are breaking down the transmissions. Funny thing is Ford no longer makes this particular transmission as per their corporate office. It is criminal what they are doing. I will testify in any court and tell my story. A mother who almost kills their child is someone that will not stop fighting for what is right. I don't know how the people at Ford sleep at night knowing they know these cars are out their and that their main drivers are moms and grandmoms. This is beyond the money lost on this vehicle, this is a fight for justice and what is right and most of all, public safety.
The throddle is sticking. When the car is stopped it still acts like I'm pushing on the gas pedal and tries to go by itself. Especially when changing gears. I have come very close to hitting people and dogs and fences due to the car jerking forward or backward after letting off the brake. For the last two weeks I have been having to keep the brake all the way down for at least 30 seconds after changing gears to keep the vehicle from gunning forward or backwards.
Vehicle surges when stepping on the gas and brake. I believe there is a problem with the throttle body and transmission. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed. This has been a huge issue since I purchased the car in Feb 2011, however no one at the dealership can figure out what is going on. This happens at least 4-7 times a month.
After warming up the vehicle, and letting the engine drop down to 1000 rpms, when the car is put in gear the tach jumps up to about 1500 rpms and the vehicle wants to lurch. I am able to keep the car from going forward by remaining on the brake, but it is a definite lurching sensation.
2007 Ford Freestyle is stalling, and stoping in middle of highway, the transmission is not shifting, from my understanding, many owners have the same problem. Rpm is racing. I have to turn the car off and wait a few minutes I have called Ford many times and reported the problem to them. Today, 1-31-2011, the Ford Freestyle 2007, shut completely off in the middle of I-85. There could have been an car crash if I didn't think quickly on what to do. Something needs to be done about this, Ford should be held lible because of so many owners have the same problem.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle is surging forward on its own and stalling in traffic. I have had the car surge forward with pedestrians close by. I have told by a mechanic that it will cost around $600. The mechanic told me that he has changed so many of these and totally agrees that Ford should step up and recall this defect in their car.
2007 Ford Freestyle is stopping on its own while driving without any warning. I have to coats to the side of the road to turn it off, wait a few minutes and turn it back on. Then I put it in drive again, then while driving, the engine starts racing, and the engine light as well as the rench light comes on. Then the rpm needle stsrts to go crazy. Then the car stops again, in the middle of traffic and I would have to repeatly coats into a safe position, turn it off, wait a few minutes and turn it back on again.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle limited will surge, even with foot on brake. Usually occurs backing in/out parking space, out of carport, etc. It is a very strong surge, and the brake doesn't always stop it. Have had mechanic check it but he finds nothing wrong.
We were stopped at a stop light and my husband had his foot on the brake when the car lunged forward. My husband pressed harder on the brakes so that we would not strike the car in front of us.
The engine revved up and lunged forward on multiple occasions. It started occurring occasionally, but happened more often when the car idled or was being parked. The dealer has not corrected it yet.
Car lunges at stops and low speeds.
Transmission (cvt) started making noises and lunging forward even when foot on brake. Had to have transmission replaced. On may 13th, 2011 took vehicle back in for the lunging forward issue. Had air filter replaced due to not sealing properly and that would probably take care of the lunging. It was fine fine for about a week and the lunging is happening now on a daily basis and it's very dangerous. I have almost hit the cars in front of me and also parking in the garage it has almost hit the garage wall because it lunged forward when my foot was on the brake.
The vehicle surges when put into gear or gear is changed (e. G. Reverse to drive). Also, if the car sits with the ac on for a period of time (as few as 10 min) in park and is then driven the "check engine" light comes on and engine rpm is limited to approximately 2000. Just turning the car off and then back on clears that issue. The problems are worse when it is hot. That happens occasionally here in TX. Don't know when it started as we bought it used. Brake must be very firmly applied to avoid a big jump - even then, it still jumps a little. Haven't hit anybody or anything. . . Yet.
The vehicle engine speed increased by approximately 250-350 rpm upon shifting into gear in the process of parallel parking. The unexpected increase in engine speed caused the vehicle to move more than expected although I managed to avoid striking the other parked car. I did not have contact with the accelerator when the engine speed surged as described. I was lightly riding the brake using sufficient force to control the car's movement at idle speed. I was able to increase brake pressure to overcome the unexpected increase in engine speed, and thus avoid striking the other car. The yellow "wrench" warning light on the instrument panel illuminated when this happened. On October 10, 2010 I took the car to walnut creek (CA) Ford and reported the problem. Upon their examination, they could not find anything wrong. Subsequently, I have had this happen several other times. It seems to happen when its hot outside and the air conditioning is running. The rpm's will increase upon shifting from neutral or park into drive or reverse gear. To test further, I was able to produce the phenomenon several times in a row by going from neutral to reverse &/or drive after the condition occurred again. It should be noted that the phenomenon did not occur when the air conditioning was switched off, but re-occurred when the air conditioning was turned back on. I don't know what component is responsible. I suspect some type of sensor or computer malfunction.
When shifting from park to drive or reverse to drive, the car randomly surges forward even when the accelerator is not depressed. It also occurs when stopped or moving slowly forward such as at a stoplight or when parking. The problem is more pronounced when the air conditioner is on. It is a concern that this surging problem may cause an accident at some time.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle that was surging when in drive or reverse I had to alway make sure that I kept my foot on the brake until the surge was over it would also stall the engine sometimes when it surged. I took it into the dealer and was told it was the throttle body and had to wait two weeks for the part to come in. The dealer provided me with a loaner because I didn't feel safe driving the car because it was becoming worse. I would shake you around at times the surge was so strong. It seemed ok when we picked it up but I have put about 8000 mile on it since the repair and I am starting to notice that it is starting to act up again not to a bad point yet but that is how it started out the first time. The repair was 650. 00 and it is looking like it will have to be repaired again.
At very low speeds the vehicle will lunge in both drive and reverse. It seems to mostly do the lunging when the air condition is on. At time it will lunge and stall, so I will have to then shut off the car, put it in park and re-start the vehicle. It is very frustrating then you are in a drive thru and the lunging makes you fear you will hit the car in front of you. This problem started over the summer of 2010 and as of April of 2011 has became much worse. I have to parallel park many time a day at my job and home, and with the lunging getting progressively worse I fear I will hit something or worse a person!!!! please help!!!.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle sel and this event has happened 5 times within the last year. After starting the vehicle and turning on the air conditioning, when the car is shifted from park to either reverse or drive, the car's engine will surge and immediatley the service engine light as well as another indicator light will come on. There were two occasions where my wife told me that if she had not had her foot firmly on the brake pedal, she would have struck another vehicle. Fortunately that did not happen. I've read that this is a persistent problem with this make and model of vehicle. I've also read that the repair for this is quite expensive. My wife and I both love this vehicle and wish to keep it.
July 4 2010 car suddenly lunged forward and then stopped. Able to restart but could not get any speed. Able to get to Ford dealer who diagnosed trottle body problem, which could cost oer 700$. Sprayed carbon cleaner in with gas, ok for a while, but it has happed several times since. Is there a recall.
Not long after I purchased the 2007 Ford Freestyle, summer came and I was using the air conditioner a lot. I noticed that when the ac was running, especially at high, the car would "lurch" forward at low speeds (probably 5 mph or less ). When I was parking the car, rolling into a parking space, with my foot hovering over the brake pedal, as soon as I got to the proper spot, the car would "lurch". When I would back out of a parking space with my foot hovering above the brake, it would "lurch". This proved to be a scary situation many times as there were cars passing in the parking lot. Many times, I could have hit another car. Even in the drive through of fast food restaurants with other cars in line, many times I have almost hit the car in front of me. Many times, my car has "lurched" and stalled. The wrench light comes on, and if I don't turn the car all the way off in park, the car does not behave properly (as in no acceleration) nor does the wrench light go off. In the beginning, I thought it was something to do with the air conditioner being on high. The problem stopped in the winter when the ac wasn't being used. However, in the summer of 2011, it all started again. My ac went out, so I had it worked on. The problem continued. Today, the problem continues. I almost hit a child in a parking lot the other day because my car "lurched". I began searching and found that others are having the same scary problem with their Ford Freestyles. It sounds as if I am maybe lazy or not too concerned since I haven't had this checked earlier, but frankly, I don't have the money to spend on repairs, so I keep hoping it won't cause a disastrous situation. Please investigate this issue before it does become deadly.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle sometimes lurches when I put it in drive, reverse or park, quits sometimes when I'm backing up or pulling out of a parking spot and also surges sometimes when I accelerate. The wrench light will come on, but usually goes off when I turn the car off and then restart it. The check engine light will come on and sometimes it goes off after a few minutes, but other times it stays on for long periods of time even if I turn the car off and restart it. This problem started last June and I took the car to a Ford dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong. I didn't have too much of a problem over the winter, but the problem has returned with the warmer temperatures and is getting worse. The problem is definitely worse when the air conditioner is on and I can almost count on having a problem after the car has idled for a few minutes.
2007 Ford Freestyle lunging forward when put into drive/backward when put in reverse. Noticed more frequency when started using the a/c. Vehicle is currently in the shop for throttle body repair. A very costly fix!.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle will jump forward or backward when put into gear. It is worse when the airconditoner is on or if you have had your foot on the break while the car is in gear. At times when it jumps it causes the car to go dead and it will have to be restarted. This has been happening since we bought the car in 2010.
Own 2007 Ford Freestyle -- had major problems with car accelerating on its own, stalling, etc. -- had to replace the throttle body $750 -- yes, I do have the old part.
While slowing to stop or park, my car surges forward when the air conditioner is running. It occasionally also does it when I put it in gear and the air conditioner is running.
Throttle body issues (possibly transmission as well) cause intermittent surging, unexpected acceleration patterns, stalling or all three. This is especially pronounced with a/c running. The first time it occured I was backing out of a parking space in a crowded mall parking lot. The sudden surge as I was backing out at idle (not depressing the accelerator at all) nearly caused me to hit a pedestrian. Dealer "could not replicate" the issue but suggested a thorough cleaning of throttle body. Have driven approximately 40,000 miles since first incident and cleaning does help for a short while but the surging returns without warning. Clearly a dangerous issue, an accident waiting to happen and I've learned (online) this is common in these vehicles.
On about 10 occasions my Ford Freestyle has lunged forward or backward while in reverse without me engaging the gas pedal. It will stop if the brake is applied but it often catches me off guard. About the half of the times the car then cuts off (once while attempting to turn onto a very busy street). The car will restart but often cuts off about 2 more times before deciding to run correctly. Usually the check engine light and wrench symbol will illuminate. This is a very scary and dangerous problem. On one occasion, after dropping of my mother at a store I took my foot off of the brake and the car lunged forward coming quite close to my mom who was crossing in front of my car. After taking the car to a mechanic, the p061b code came up for internal control mod torque calculation performance. When we googled this code I was shocked at the number of people who have posted on various websites about this same problem. Thanks for you time!.
My car would surge forwarded with out me pressing the accelerator. I took it in and they could find nothing because it didn't do it constantly eventually the car stopped and would start and they said I needed a throttle body. My warranty was up at 50,000 mi and I had 52,000 I had to pay $1000 out of pocket for a problem they couldn't detect earlier. Now my transmission has gone bad I have the cvt transmission and the internal shaft has gone bad again my warranty was up at 60,000 miles and I have 64,000 I have spoken to one of the mechanics at a Ford dealer and he said they have been this complaint from a lot of people with the 2005-2007 Ford free styles they think it may be a problem with the transmissions but they refuse to do a recall. So now I am out of pocket $4000.
The first time the problem occured was soon after I purchased my car. I took my foot off the brake when the car was in park, and the car lunged forward. Since that time, this has happened numerous times. The car has also lunged backwards when I put the car in reverse and took my foot off the brake. At times, this has caused the car to die. It seems to be worse when the air conditioning is on.
In the spring of 2009 we started noticing our 2007 Ford Freestyle would lunge when put into gear, after sitting with the air conditioner running. When I would back out of a parking space, it would suddenly lunge backward, then when I put it in drive, it would do the same thing forward. We took it to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body, which was covered under our warranty. We did have to pay a $100. 00 deductable. That fixed it for two years. Now, it's starting doing the same thing again. We haven't taken it to the dealership yet, but I'm sure it's the same problem with the throttle body. My husband plans to call the dealership Monday, so we can get it fixed again, as it's a safety issue. I have a fear of hitting someone when it surges forward and backward. I just pray it's not someone on foot.
The engine surges when idling as well as lurches forward (while in drive thru lane) and it lurches in reverse. It is a major concern when parking and backing out of said location. It has already caused me to hit a concrete pillar in the parking garage!.
97,000 miles. I have replaced the throttle body twice, new transmission- hole I n the drive shaft. 3 rear brake jobs- the 1st on was by recall. Cracked motorhead 12,000 miles after new transmission. The whole car shakes, squeeks, and pops since the transmission was put in. From the cv joints and back brakes.
