1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While driving 35 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the transmission. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to dean sellers Ford (2600 w maple rd, troy, mi 48084, (248) 221-2368) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 100,000.

Transmission noise.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Our 2006 Ford Freestyle (approx 110,000 miles) began making a loud knocking noise from under the hood. Our local mechanic isolated the noise to the transmission but feared the job would be too big for him to tackle. We had the vehicle towed to a highly-rated local shop specializing in transmission repairs. Their diagnosis was that the transmission would need to be replaced * they could find the parts, since this was a common problem with the Ford cvt transmissions and that Ford had stopped using this particular transmission. Their quote was approx. $5000, but since that's about what the book value is, we elected not to proceed with the work and had the car towed home. I've since done much research on-line and have found reports of hundreds of other owners who have the same issue, but nothing about a recall (or even a TSB)! in fact, there is a class action suit underway in California regarding this issue, but since I live in MA, I don't qualify for their class. How can this issue, which impacts hundreds if not thousands of owners, not be addressed by a total recall?.

4 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2013

Thursday, November 29,2013 I noticed a noise in my engine compartment. I took it to my mechanic he said it was the transmission and to call the dealer. We called the dealer they said to get a transmission it would be a remanufactured one using our old one for the core and would be about 48 hundred dollars however they can't get one. I now have a car I can't drive or sell.

5 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2013

My car was making a strange noise in park, when put into drive the noise would stop. Sounded like a airplane while idling. When I asked to have it checked while having oil changed, was told it was transmission noise and due to cvt transmission and will not effect the performance of transmission until I feel it slipping gears. Have seen that Ford has had this problem with this vehicle and wonder why they haven't stood behind their product and repaired this issue. I am a widowed mom and don't have thousands of dollars lying around to have this fixed. Bought this vehicle for being able to help transport my sons boy scout troop to their events and afraid to do so with concern of braking down this scouts in my car. Wish they would fix this issue so customers would not put out pocket to fix, they know the problem exists fix it.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

The vehicle makes a lound rumbling noise at low speed. Dealer (lindsay Ford of silver spring, MD) has had the car for 2 days and did not diagnose or repair. Tech says it's because of transmission going bad but they are not sure. They say they are unable to provide parts or service and car may break down anytime.

7 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2012

Around the middle of November 2012, I started noticing a slight knocking coming from under the hood while the vehicle was idling. It seemed to go away when I put the car in gear and started to drive. During the next couple of weeks the knocking was getting worse. I noticed it louder and louder as I was driving. Then, the only time the knocking went away was when the car was put in reverse. Now, I'm starting to get very concerned about my car breaking down while I am out. Shortly after this, I received a recall notice about the throttle body. So, I took it in on January 23, 2013 to have the throttle body recall procedure done. While it was at the authorized "Ford" dealership having this procedure done, I asked them to check out the noise I was hearing. They informed me it was a bearing that was within the transmission causing the issue and would need replaced. I was told that the part itself was not able to be replaced, but the whole transmission needed to be replaced. They recommended a "new" transmission be installed at the cost of $5200. 00. A used one might result in the same circumstances happening. However, due to the issues with this "cvt" transmission, there may not be "new" one available for a while. I was then informed, that because of this "cvt" issue, Ford has extended the warranty on the 2008+ model years up to 100,000 miles. So, this means I am left with a worthless 2006 "Ford" vehicle with 95,508 miles. Which "Ford" knows has a defective part and has chosen to ignore and refuses any responsibility for it. What am I to do? is this how, we as consumers, should expect our vehicles to perform? I loved the styling and features of this car, but I can't see putting $5200. 00 into this vehicle at this point and down the road the same thing happening or something new that they have known about. Where do I go from here?.

8 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the transmission was making a knocking noise and experiencing difficulty while changing gears. The vehicle was inspected at two separate locations and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact was not given a reason as to why the transmission needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 107,000.

9 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2011

I pulled into my garage, placed the car in park, turned it off, returned in 30 minutes, started right up, placed transmission in reverse, heard and felt a large bang, whining noise from engine, wrench light came on, that was the last time I drove it. I had it towed to a shop, replaced the computer, recoded, reflashed, nothing worked. I was told it needs a new transmission. New transmission estimate is $7000. 00. . . Ford should be held accountable for a flawed design. . . I was fortunate in that my transmission failed in my garage, others were not so lucky. Please dont wait until someone's family is killed before you force a much needed recall on some seriously bad research and development.

10 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2011

I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle and I am having problems with the cvt transmission makeing a tapping noise. I took the car to the dealer and was told the inside of the transmission was falling apart and it would cost me 5800 dollars to have itr repaired has there been any other problems like this or any recalls for the Ford cvt transmission help I have been having problem with the car lunching forward and stalling out and the wrench and check engine light would come on and when I took it to the dealer they said that they could not find a problem or any fault codes this has been going on since I have owned the car.

11 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle exhibited an abnormally loud noise. She noticed that there was a hole in the transmission and that the transmission gears were on the ground. The dealer offered the contact no assistance. The manufacturer advised the contact that because her vehicle was no longer under warranty, they would not be able to provide any additional assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 90,000.

12 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

I had a persistent problem with my 2006 Ford Freestyle. Car would launch with foot on brake. Brought to dealer several times. Now at 65k miles, the transmission has a noise (in park and neutral). The transmission shop has quoted $5200 for a new transmission. It does not seem right that a car could not easily reach 100k these days. I am an aerospace engineer and would be embarrassed if my product failed as often as I have read about this car.

13 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

When driving, my car loses power. Sometimes when moving slowly, I engage the gas pedal and lose power. Sometimes when I engage the gas to move from a stopped position, my car will start to go and then lose power. The car does not shut off, it just won't move, and then suddenly does. The dealer replaced the throttle body, but this is still happening. They said unless they can get the problem to happen when they are driving it, there is nothing they can do to help further. This is very scary and I'm sure it's a matter of time before there is an accident. When I put my car in reverse, sometimes it revs up before actually moving. I have had many problems with this vehicle, starting in the 20,000 miles. Bad window motor, bad brakes, intermittent dash board clearance, air conditioning mechanism leaking into car. The dealer did replace the window motor, brakes and air conditioning problem, but had no explanation on the dash lights resetting. My paint is bubbling up on the hood of my car. Ford offered to fix this for $850. The bubbling started at 39,000 miles. I did not pay them to fix this, as I feel Ford should be responsible for this. When Ford had my car last, they replaced a sway bar and did not tighten the nut, I then had the abs light come on and they replaced the wheel speed sensor and tightened the nut. My car clunked so bad, I fear that this caused additional suspension problems. I've always had noise in the front end, especially on a tight turn. The greased the front end, but that does not fix the problem. Today, my car only has 45,000 miles on it, but unfortunately, my warranty is up and I know that one day when I put my foot on the gas pedal, it's not going to move. I was told by a Ford service rep. That the cvt transmission cannot be replaced, so when it does fail, I'm out of luck, there is no repair for this. Recall please.

14 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While traveling at a speed of 70mph the contact noticed that her vehicle suddenly made an unknown noise and had begun to coast in neutral, causing the contact to pull to the side of the road. The contact shut off the vehicle. And after restarting the vehicle she noticed that the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was towed to her residence. The contact called the dealership and was informed over the phone that the cvt in the transmission may have caused the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or serviced at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were 63000.

15 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2009

Cvt transmission in 2006 Ford Freestyle failed. Cost to repair estimated by Ford dealer 3000. 00. Ford canada and wells Ford of stirling ontario refused any responsibility. Vehicle is now 4 thousand kms over warranty however whining noise in vehicle was reported to the dealer when warranty was still effect.

16 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2007

I bought my 2006 Ford Freestyle with 23,000 miles within 4 months I started experiencing a whining noise. The noise started getting louder and louder, I then started to feel the car wanting to accelerate while my foot was on the brake, this happened about 5 times. The car would stall and the wrench light would come on. I would turn it off and let it cool a little and it would start right up again. The problems continued especially in the heat. I live in miami florida and it was just about everyday that this would happen. Then finally it happened, the car just died on me. I want to point out that I took the car to the dealer with 30,000 and they told me there was nothing they could do because no lights came on. I let them service the car and they told me everything was ok. The dealer told me I needed a new transmission. I could not believe it, he also told me the throttle body went and intake manifold had went as well. I asked if there was anything Ford could do they said I would have to call. Ford was the worst at customer service that I ever experienced. They said no to everything because I was out of warranty. After spending almost $6,000 the dealer told me that Ford was now giving 100,000 mile warranty for remanufactured transmissions. To this day, I have replaced brakes, rotors, another throttle body, front engine mount and the car is now experiencing a whining noise again. I still have 15,000 warranty left on last tranny I put in. I'm thinking they may have to put a new tranny in again. Ford knew about this recall and how dangerous it was and never asked for a voluntary recall, I am also very disappointed with the NHTSA. There have been thousand of complaints and they also did nothing about.

17 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2006

I have two big problems with my Ford, first I've had it for a year and a half and replaced the front and rear brakes four times. The rotors were supposed to have been replaced before I got the SUV. For over a year I haven't had no help by Ford, during the same time I've had a loud knocking noise from either the engine or transmission, they wouldn't even look at that problem. For being a 2006 there is so many things wrong with it and spend double in gas I'm very unsatisfied with my Freestyle.
