A few weeks ago I was backing out of the driveway in the morning (it was cold & frosty). When I put the vehicle into reverse it started to back out but then wouldn't accelerate. I pushed harder on the accelerator and it revved and finally went. The car felt off' while driving (shaky & not fully under control-like riding a bicycle when the chain slips but isn't completely off). The wrench light turned on but once I'd arrived at the destination & stopped & restarted the vehicle it seemed fine and the wrench light turned off. Last week I was again backing out and the vehicle would not accelerate, I pushed down more on the accelerator and it skipped / lurched back (almost hitting another vehicle). This happened twice more, both scary but manageable once I was able to turn the vehicle off and on again. Then this morning it happened again with the revving noise and poor and jumpy acceleration but after restarting, the 'check engine' light came on and has continued to be lit. So far I have only encountered the lurching and lack of acceleration occurring while in reverse, though it's continued once going forward until I can pull over and restart the vehicle. Until I can restart the vehicle it feels shaky and on the verge of dying, especially when at idle in traffic or red lights. I did a lot of research before purchasing the Freestyle. I chose it because it was one of the highest rated and 'safest' suvs with 3rd row seats - reviewed by the iihs, car-seat. Org and other organizations. I would not have purchased a Freestyle if these problems were well known to me at the time. We will look at the throttle body as recommended by other owners on this and other sites and I only hope that solves the problem. In the meantime I am afraid of the lack of acceleration and lurching problem happening around other vehicles and people so I am driving backroads where possible.
So many issues with the transmission not sure where to start. Car was running fine yesterday and then today car had the wrench light on and lost power on the expressway at about 75 mph. Turned the card off and the light was still on but at least I got partial power. The car shudders and won't shift and sometimes when I push the gas pedal nothing happens. When I am stopped car will lunge forward even with my foot on the brake. Called several Ford dealerships and they said they are not certified to work on that type of trans but they will replace it for 7000. 00!!!! I have read so many posts with the exact same issue. Why is there no recall?? I could have been killed!!! or worse my kids could have been hurt. Doesn't anyone care enough to do something?.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving at any speed the vehicle shakes violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnose that the caused of the failure was the transmission and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who stated that the vehicle was no longer under warranty and did not offer any additional assistance. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 130,000 and the current mileage was 135,000. Pmb.
I was driving down the road when suddenly the car shuddered and lost accelerator power. The engine was idling, however, I was unable to give the car any gas to get it off of the road, and couldn't even rev the engine with the gas pedal. No response at all from the gas pedal - only idle and engine still running. The "wrench" symbol was illuminated on the dash. I put the car in park, turned it off, restarted the car and the car responded as if nothing had just happened. I am lucky I hadn't reached the intersection yet and was in the process of pulling out to turn in front of oncoming traffic! first time this has ever happened, however, I have been noticing how my car has been surging as I drive. It has not become extreme, however, it is noticeable since I am not pressing the gas pedal any harder when it suddenly accelerates as I drive along.
