My car has begun to accelerate when I am braking, and it is a powerful and sudden acceleration! it seems to happen more often when I am backing up and turning, but will happen at any time. It started last week and is happening with greater frequency, making it unsafe to drive. Last night it went into fail safe mode, but upon restarting the car today, it has returned to normal. I did an internet search and found that other people have had similar experiences, particularly when the air conditioner is running. As it so happens, I had my air conditioner fixed last week.

The accelerator pedal is unresponsive and the vehicle will move very slowly at first, then unpredictably lunge forward at higher speeds. Occasionally the pedal will immediately respond with rapid acceleration when lightly touched, causing the tires to spin out while taking off from a stop. Altering the way pressure is applied to the accelerator has no effect. This has been happening for over 3 months without any check engine indicators, and only recently when the vehicle had trouble idling did a check engine light come on. The vehicle has been well maintained and lightly driven.

While idling waiting to pick up my children at school. The car started to lunge / accelerate unexpectedly. Had I not had my foot on the brake my car would have moved forward and hit the car in front of me or a person leaving the school to go to the parking lot. This is not the first time that this has happened in the recent months and I am afraid that I am going to hit someone while in the stop position at a light or in the parking lot.

The 2007 Freestyle which was built near the end of 2006. It was ok when first purchased as used back in 2008. But as time went on its throttle began to surge unexpectedly. Eventually it began to happen often enough for my wife and I to notice how it usually happens when the ac is on. It's particularly a problem while pulling in and out of parking spaces. Now it happens every single day beginning when the car is backed out of the garage. We have learned to keep our foot on the brake to stop the car from crashing into anything. To me the problem seems to be getting worse. But I don't drive it as often as does my wife. She says that the progression of the problem seems to have slowed down. But she says she has gotten used to compensating for it. The car also has difficulty starting occasionally. Maybe that is related to the surging throttle. But so far we have not noticed the starting problem correlating with anything in particular. The local Ford dealer says there is a recall to have the throttle body cleaned. That has been scheduled.

Sudden acceleration while parking or maneuvering at low speeds. Foot is on the brake lightly and vehicle will lunge forward as if the accelerator was depressed but it wasn't. Car under control with applied break but could cause accident if late applying break.

Vehicle suddenly accelerates at low speed both when moving forward and when backing up. This sometimes results in a stall. Vehicle also lost low end power.
Vehicle unexpectedly and with great speed lurches in both forward and reverse. I notice the issue most often when pulling into or out of a parking spot or just after using the brake. The car suddenly accelerates without warning forcing me to slam on the brakes so that I do not hit other vehicles or unintentionally enter traffic. The issue is very dangerous because there is no forewarning and has appeared to be happening more often and with greater force.

I just had the a/c compressor replaced and now the car lunges without pressing on the gas peddle. It mostly happens while I am moving from park to reverse. It has happened once, while I was moving forward in a parking lot and then stalled. Pressing the brake pedal overrides the sudden acceleration, and it seems to be worse when the air conditioning is on or the steering wheel is turned. While it started slowly, it is now happening ever time I put the car in reverse. I need to keep my foot on the brake peddle every time. I am hoping that Ford places a recall on the Ford Freestyle.
