Says transmission data error check engine and trac control all display and only allow me to drive 20-35 mph some time I can turn the car off and back on and the codes will shut off but they come back on in the middle of the highway what usually takes me 30 minutes takes me an hour and a half to get to some times 2 hours I can't run my ac cuz that over does my alternator and heats my car I've only had it a year and it's been giving me problems 5 months after getting it I have kids and it gets rough going slow in the heat and hoping if I press to much on the gas please help I am broke and have nothing but this car left and I've spent $2000 for people to tell me nothing is wrong with it.
Just got the car and it stalled on me today, accelerated and shut off in the middle of the road. Alot going on iv read other people's comments about the Ford causing accidents I don't want that to happen to me I'm a new driver.
When driving the car suddenly lurches forward. I have had the car 3 days and it has done this twice. Both times I was on city streets driving up a slight incline. The first time I was driving about 35 mph. Two different towns two different hills. The first was a freeway overpass and the second was just a street on a hill. Today I had just pulled out from a stop sign and was accelerating up the hill between 20-30 mph it lurched/surged again!.

My 2007 Ford Freestyle is lunging when I am stopped and take my foot off brake pedal. Very dangerous situation as this could easily caused other property damage or even bodily injury should someone be walking in front of my vehicle. I see that there have been numerous complaints with regards to this problem. The lunging seems worse when it is hot outside and car ac is on. If vehicle is allowed to idle in hot weather for more than 5-10 minutes the wrench light will generally come out and engine will die. An accident could easily occur which would not be the fault of the driver.
Well I noticed this issue a couple months ago, I bought the car back in July of 2019 with 123,000 miles. Whenever I go to park or reverse with the a/c on or anything my car lunges without me even touching the acceleration and I have to slam on the brakes not to hit anything. And today I reversed out of a parking spot and it lunges as usual and when I started driving down the road a wrench light flashed on and I wasn't getting as much acceleration as usual. I've been researching and this seems to be a problem a lot of people have had with this car. It just scares me with it lunging and speeding up on its own in drive thrus, parking lots/spots, and simply when I'm sitting and turn my wheel just a little bit it decides it wants to accelerate on its on! all this happened mostly when I just start driving, or pulling in somewhere or reversing, and sometimes when I'm stationary at a drive thru.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while idling into a parking approximately when the vehicle suddenly surged 12 ft forward at approximately 25 mph. The contact pressed the brakes, however, the vehicle failed to stop and crashed into the concrete wall in front of the vehicle. The airbags did not deploy. The vehicle. A police report was not filed. The contact received injuries to their to their neck, back, and chest area. Medical attention was needed. The vehicle was towed. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealership. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000. Car lurches forward when parking. It is worse if the ac is on.
I bought this car from private seller. On the drive home I turned on ac and noticed a surge so I turned the air off. After getting the car home I filled the tank as it was almost empty when I purchased the car. The car began to surge forwards and backwards at an idle, and then began to surge while driving. Check engine light came on and codes indicated it was a misfire, so did a tune up (changed spark plugs and coils) only to have the issue get worse. The car is now almost stalling and surging hard. Car is very slow to accelerate and feels to have no power while attempting to get up to even in town speeds(25-30mph) car is undrivable safely at this point and I have not even owned 2 months. Surging happens at idle, low speeds, freeway speeds, and surges violently when trying to accelerate.
I just bought the vehicle via private seller. No issues were reported by seller. I filled vehicle and entered the freeway. A few moments later the vehicle started jolting while at a high rate of speed. I pressed the accelerator, the vehicle did not respond. The vehicle continued to jolt off/on. I exited the freeway due to feeling unsafe to continue on the freeway. Upon exiting the ramp, the vehicle stalled. I had no control of the vehicle as the breaks did not seem to work and the power steering was out. I pulled the steering wheel, as hard as I could, to the right to the shoulder of the road. Once the vehicle came to a stop. I put the vehicle in park, restarted the vehicle and continued driving cautiously. Driving at a slower rate, 35-40mph, the vehicle started to jolt again and had difficulty accelerating. After several days of this issue, I cleaned the battery terminals to ensure there was a good connection. I thought the issue was resolved. At this point I had half a tank. A couple days later, I was on empty. I filled up the vehicle for the week. My vehicle is now jolting and surging again. I was almost home, when the vehicle shut off, I lost power steering again and the breaks were not working. I again pulled the steering wheel, as hard as I could to the right, to get off the road as an oncoming car was just ahead. Once the vehicle came to a stop, I put it in park, restarted the car, entered the driveway and parked it. Today the vehicle is still jolting, surging and has a delay when pressing the accelerator. I am scared to continue driving this vehicle! I have no control after the vehicle stalls. I am scared the vehicle is going to stall, at a high rate of speed, and I am not going to be able to get off to the shoulder, turn the wheel fast enough to avoid a collision or maneuver a curve when if it stalls. I am scared I may hit a pedestrian due to no breaks.
My car wouldn't accelerate on getting on the interstate and would only go up to 40 mph - hard to get in from the ramp with other oncoming cars. It started surging and bucking. When I got off the interstate at the next interstate it again surged when I was going 20mph. Very scary for me. When I stopped at the stoplight it stalled and I had trouble starting it. I put my hazards on for the rest of the trip home. I have been scared to drive it. I took it to the Ford dealer and they said it was the throttle body and estimated $700 for the part and $200 for labor. I have had surging issues this past summer when I used the defrost or air conditioning but not anything this bad. I did call the Ford company and have a case number - they would not help with the part or labor. I spoke with a manager. . .
My car stalls, and lunges forwards or backs suddenly even if I'm pressing the brake.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle seized and the power train and battery warning indicators illuminated. The contact attempted to start the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that an unknown computer needed to be replaced. The vehicle's battery and body control module were replaced; however, the failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The contact referenced NHTSA action number: pe11018 (vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.
I just bought this 2006 Ford Freestyle and have almost had 4 wrecks this week! it just surges randomly in the school pick up line redlights parking lots and stop signs im scared for my familys safety. I dont know what to do I paid alot of money for this car from an indivdual.
The car stops randomly at times and sometimes will not even startup. Check engine light is on and I recently hit someone in front of me due to jerking or lerching while at a stop light. Very dangerous.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While waiting to make a left turn with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle lunged forward spontaneously. The contact had to release and reapply the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 151,215.
I put my car in reverse and the speed increased while I had my foot on the brake, I changed gears to drive and it did not increase on its own. Once again on reverse and had another sudden increase of speed while my foot was on the brake. If I wasn't careful it could have caused an accident.
When letting up on my brake pedal from a stop my car will randomly accelerate and lunge forward. This problem has been going on since 2017. This problem seems to effect many Freestyle owners, and is a safety concern for my family.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While idling, the vehicle would suddenly surge forward. The failure also occurred while idling with the gear in reverse, and the vehicle would surge backwards. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and spradley Ford (2828 hwy 50 west, pueblo, CO) were notified of the failures, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 170,000.
Hello, I was driving 60 mph on us highway 2, driving from snohomish, wa to monroe, wa, which is a 2 lane highway with no median (death highway) suddenly, the car seemed to lunge and I lost acceleration with the yellow service wrench dash light coming on. My speed significantly decreased and the car pulled at the same time. Rpm's jumped to 5000+ but I was dropping speed. I avoided the car coming up behind me and the oncoming traffic by quickly pulling into an area on the side of the highway. This was a very scary experience that could have turned out very badly if I would have been hit from behind and pushed into oncoming traffic. I sat on the side of the road, stunned for 5-10 minutes, not knowing what happened. It had also happened once earlier that day at much lower speeds and then seemed to reset itself. Again the wrench light reset and I was able to pull out onto the highway and drive to a transmission shop for diagnosis. As of now, I don't know exactly what the damage may be other than I'm being told it's a bad transmission and that I need a new one, with really no guarantee that the same thing won't happen again. Since this incident I have done a great deal of research on this car and specifically the 05-07 Ford Freestyle with this cvt. It is nothing but problems how can Ford get away this and why hasn't this transmission been recalled and Ford made to finally resolve the issue safely or made to reimburse all affected parties the purchase price of the severely unsafe vehicle. I am thankful that I had a place to turn off, rather than the potential of an accident on that highway!! no physical injury, but definitely an emotionally charged event!! thank you. Jeff chandler monroe, wa 425-362-9559.
The car is lunging forward at low speed while braking, this seems to be the same issue addressed in a recall that had been completed in December of 2016.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle speedometer fluctuates on its on causing the car to jump forward and take off slow with very little power it does it when sitting in park with the car turned on and while driving.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. While driving 70 mph, the check engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle went into limp mode. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The throttle body was replaced; however, the failure recurred. Joe machens capital city Ford (located at 807 southwest blvd, jefferson city, mo 65109, (855) 929-5900) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 194,000.
On several occasions, my 05 Freestyle lunges forward, transmission is engaged in the drive position and when in reverse, it also lunges. Often when stopped at a light the car will not accelerate. It will stumble all over itself and dies. I've almost been hit on a couple occasions because I couldn't get across an intersection or out of the way. On several occasions while driving, it loses power and will not accelerate. Had a a mechanic look at it. He said the throttle body was gummed up and he cleaned it. It ran good for a couple days and it's back to doing the same thing. The car only has 72310 miles on it. This problem has been going on for a couple years and has gotten significantly worse.
At low speed or stopped while in drive the car lunges forwards. I was at a drive through and it lunged forward almost hitting a pedestrian. Also while driving in a lower speed zone 20-35 (school zones and neighborhood streets) the rpm's start pulsing causing the car to lunge every time.
When not pressing the accelerator pedal and turning the wheel, the car speed up without the drivers intention.
My car surges and the rpms move without touching the gas. It tries to throw me into traffic when at stoplights and stop signs. It tries to throw me at people when driving slowly through parking lots. I have to put my car into neutral while at stops so that my family or other family's don't die because of a malfunction that Ford had with the car when they sold it. I was never told about the malfunction and they say I'm years past the warenty and 20000 miles past the warenty milage. So because my car is 20000 over I guess it's okay for my car to kill me and my children or other people?.
Vehicle keeps jumping. Throttle body.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost acceleration. The contact had to pull the vehicle over, place the gear in neutral, and restart the vehicle. The wrench warning indicator illuminated when the vehicle was restarted. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. An independent mechanic repaired the throttle body, but the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 188,000.
While driving on a city street going 25 and while driving on the freeway going 55, the lights in cluster of guages went out. The wrench icon lights up and all power goes out to the guages. All needles drop. Checked the fuzes. Nothing blown. When this happens the a. C. Also stops blowing cold air.
My car randomly surges. This usualy happens at low speeds when the car is at or close to idle. The car will sugre like the gass is being pressed but it is definetly not. It also surges randomly when shifted into different gears park, reverse, neutral. It is very dangerous as it is inpredictable.
My Freestyle accelerators/ lunges forward for "no reason" when I'm pushing on brake to park. This has happened numerous times at grocery store, wal-mary etc. Last Tuesday was the scariest. I was with my mom driving to the bank and as I was parking it accelerated much more than it normally does. We hopped the curb and almost crashed into the bank wall. My foot was on the brake! I have seen several mechanics who have no clue and can't find anything wrong. I went immediately to seen another recommend seasoned mechanic who said he had no idea what it could be and saw nothing wrong. I'm scared to drive my cat or even park it. I only park away from other cars now. If someone would have been in front of my cat at the bank, they would have been seriously injured. I googled the problem and saw other people had reported the same thing and I'm hoping that you guys can tell me what the issue was since there were numerous other complaints. Thank you so much for your time.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated and the throttle control and transmission warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to operate normally; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the vehicle would accelerate without warning at traffic lights, stop signs, or when making turns. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
The car is self accelerating!! it is very scary. It does it when I am on drive trying to slow down and stop or when I have been parked and try to backup slowly to move in reverse. It therefore, happens mostly at red lights, stop signs, and in parking lots. I am terrified the car will run over a person crossing the street or walking behind my car in a parking space. When the car self accelerates, it does it suddenly and forcefully. In that split second I slam on the brakes to avoid running over a crossing pedestrian or winding up at crossroads and cause an accident. When I step on the brakes, the car shakes and dies. I have to quickly restart the car again. This constant dying and restarting of the car at red lights and parking lots had drained my battery. This exact self accelerating problem happened in 2011. It was "fixed" at the maxwell Ford dealership in 5000 south I-35 78745. They said it was the throttle. I had a new ac compressor put in recently and suddenly the problem came back. The last four years the ac has not worked well. I wonder if there is a a connection between the proper functionality of both parts - the throttle and the ac. I am desperate to have it repaired again, and of course at no expense of mine since it has been obviously a continuous factory/design defect. Please help, I have less than $200 in my account and I depend on my car for my livelihood.
This car has many problems. I wouldn't buy this car again. I have invested too much money for repairs. The air bag sensor keeps coming on. The car has no speed after I had the transmission replaced. The lights on dash are off and on.
