36 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/19/2011

I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The vehicle randomly surges in forward an reverse. I have found many complaints online saying it is the throttle body. It seems to happen most often when first shifting out of park to reverse or forward. Happens even more often when air is on. It is very disappointing there has been nothing done about this. This vehicle is supposed to be a safe family car!! it has put my son and wife in many close calls. I hope NHTSA makes Ford do something about this and soon!!.

37 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/18/2011

My mom owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. It had a throttle body failure that cost her $835 to replace on 7-21-2011. This is outragous!!!! it's understandable that mechanical things will fail but this is an obvious safety issue. The car began to "surge" and lurch forward, mainly when parking. My mom actually bumped the front of the car port!!! the vehicle also died multiple times while sitting at red lights over the course of about 3 weeks. . . When she needed to take off, it stalled and would not accellerate. . . This is an extreem safety hazard and Ford needs to make this right! reimburse my mom! she's on a fixed income and can't afford to pay for Ford's mistakes, not to mention she could have had an accident causing damage to her vehicle or someone else, or worse yet personal injury to her or someone else!!!!!! do the right thing. . . Step up an recall this throttle body. . . There is already a TSB out on it. . (05-25-13) so it's a known issue. What will it take to get this fixed?. . . Does someone have to get hurt or killed????.

38 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/17/2011

I was beginning backing up my wifes' 2007 Ford Freestyle in the harris teeter parking lot on 07/17/2011 when the vehicle suddenly accerlated and I had to hit the brakes hard to avoid loss of control. The vehicle stalled. I restarted the vehicle, put it in reverse and it accelerated suddenly again, I braked and it stalled again. I was far enough out of the parking spot to go forward by this point. I put the vehicle in drive and went forward out of the parking lot. Now I had acceleration problems as the engine did not accelerate properly- I couldn't get the motor past 3000 rpm. I called the local Ford dealer (beach Ford) on the following Monday, scheduled a repair appointment and took the vehicle in for repair. The dealer replaced the throttle body assembly at a total cost of $792. 16. The vehicle is again driving properly.

39 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/16/2011

When hot outside, vehicle accelerates on its own at idle without touching the accelerator pedal.

40 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

My Ford Freestyle has 87,000 miles. Until recently, it has been a terrific car. However, it now has had intermittent problems that (according to the code) are linked to the throttle body. The transmission and engine lights come on. The accelerator doesn't work, and then it lunges unexpectedly. After researching online, I found hundreds of others are having this issue.

41 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

My 2006 Ford Freestyle lurches and surges. When put into gear my Freestyle will lurch violently and while driving it will surge power. While sitting and in gear power surges and lurches forward forcing the driver to press the brake hard to keep the car from jumping forward. While cruising power will surge without input from the driver.

42 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

The first time this happened was September 2010. I was in a parking lot with in nashville TN. It was hot and ac was running. The transmission was in reverse, I took my foot off brake and the car accelerated backward without pressing the accelerator. On the date I reported above same situation, in a parking lot, temp outside was over 90 and ac was running. The transmission was in drive and when I took my foot off the brake it accelerated forward. My wife had several incidents similar but she was only aware that the ac was running when the car accelerated with pressing the gas pedal. We were fortunate each time there was enough space to press the brake and stop the vehicle.

43 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

At first occurrence, I was pulling into a parking space. As I took my foot off the gas and placed it on the brake my car lurched forward unexpectedly. This unexpected lurching has increased in frequency and happens both in drive and reverse. There have also been incidents when the car is in park and it revs, as if I am pushing on the gas pedal. It will rev like that and idle down a few times and then the engine will stall.

44 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/12/2011

The vehicle will slightly accelarate (or lunge) when idling and foot is not on the accelerator. Seems to happen when vehicle is first started and/or at very low speeds. This has happened multiple times while vehicle is drive or reverse.

45 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been having an issue with lurching forward when the brakes are applied. Several close misses of rearending someone due to this issue. Ford needs to investigate and recall these vehicles. It is an safety issue and Ford has known about it for sometime.

46 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/09/2011

My vehicle lurches when idling and jumps in rpm unexpectedly after slowing which if you are not on the brakes causes the vehicle to move uncontrollably and rapidly.

47 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

2006 Ford Freestyle lunges with foot on the brake and not on the accelerator. This is unpredictable and random. It happens in reverse and drive.

48 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

Ford 2006 Freestyle is accelerating on it own in reverse and drive. I do not have my foot on the gas. The car lunges forward and then stalls.

49 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/04/2011

Engine revs and vehicle lurches while placing the car in reverse, even with foot firmly on the brakes. Appears to be worse when air conditioner is on. Vehicle has lost virtually all power while driving. When this happens, you can floor the gas peddle but the vehicle won't go over 10-15mph. Pulling over to the side of the road, turning vehicle off, waiting 15 seconds or so, then restarting, seems to reset the vehicle to a more functionable level. The vehicle also has an extensive exhaust smell and it is currently at the shop for a $566 repair for the diagnostic exam and that diagnosis indicating that the egr valve needs to be replaced. I called Ford and they do not have a current recall for the egr valve, or throttle body-which seems to be a correlated problem within the two.

50 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 07/02/2011

The car leaped forward unexpectedly while pulling up to a stop sign. This happened on 7/02/2011 for the first time. We had this occur several more times in the next few days, always while stopping or parking the car. In one instance the car would of struck a light pole, had there not been a curb there. This seems to occur whether the car is cold or has run for awhile. We are now having to drive this car like it may leap forward at anytime. Ford needs to get this taken care of before some is seriously injured.

51 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

While starting my car and attempting to back up, it started sputtering, wouldn't reverse, and then the engine reved and it lurched backwards. I immediately hit the brake and put it in park. The engine altered between sputtering, lunging, and then it reved on it its own while in park and with no acceleration. I turned off the ignition, waited a minute, and started it again, this time with no problem. About 2 weeks later, the same incident happened while I was trying to pull forward in a parking lot but this time the engine kept stalling. I had it towed to the auto dealer who tried recalibrating a computer sensor but warned that it "may be the throttle body but that would be very unusual. " after another incident, the dealer replaced the throttle body (this past Monday) but same incident happened last night, this time leaving us stranded in the middle of a four lane road. After several attempts at turning off and then turning on the car, we were able to hobble to a parking lot where we turned off the car and sat for 5 minutes. It was then fine, and we drove home. We did notice that the a/c would cut in and out on its own during the 30 minute trip home. It is the shop again as I write this.

52 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/29/2011

2005 Ford Freestyle lurches forward without any accelerator input or warning. I am sure that it is going to cause an accident or injury. This started at about 140,000 miles the first time, and is getting worse. Very dangersous event when it happens. From what I gather from others on line it is a problem with the throttle body. This is for sure a safty issue and flaw in the design and use of the throttle body which should be made whole and for sure be put on a recall to correct before someone is hurt. Being it happens when at an idle if could cause a collision with a vehile in front of you, but worse than that could be a child or person walking infront of the vehilce and suddenly being hit by the lurchig car.

53 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/23/2011

Noticing our 2006 Ford Freestyle rpm's suddenly surging when running at low rpm's and then turning the steering wheel. Problem is increased when air conditioning is on. Was very close to crashing our Freestyle into the shelving in the garage. Also have had incidents where the fan motor on the rear seat climate control will surge to high then go almost to off, surge again and then stabilize at the desired fan speed. Have not taken action on a repair yet.

54 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

We purchased a brand new 2006 Ford Freestyle in March, 2007. On June 14, 2011, and to a lesser extent, periodically since vehicle purchase, the vehicle's engine surged while my foot was on the brake pedal; the vehicle failed to accelerate to normal speed; and, it acted like it didn't want to shift into next gear. The June 14, 2011 occurrence was the worst one, plus, the wrench light came on. Our local Ford dealership diagnosis is that the throttle body needs to be replaced. . . At only 37,200 miles. Repair estimate from the dealership to replace the part is $836. 48. Dealership also determined that an engine mount bracket/gasket needs to be replaced for cost of $424. 00; rear brakes will be needed within 5,00 miles for $374, if new rotors are needed; and, new battery is needed now for a cost of $138. . . All this at only 37,200 miles. We foolishly purchased an extended warranty when we bought the vehicle. Ford tells us that the warranty only covers the power train, and since the throttle body is considered to be electronic, the warranty will not apply. We were led to believe that it was a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty when we agreed to purchase the warranty. We are very unhappy campers! no more extended warranties for us. We believe that Ford should be responsible at least for the throttle body replacement, in full. We are afraid to drive the vehicle now, and even when it is "repaired" we will still be afraid because of the history of the Freestyle problems that we have read about online. Please help! thanks.

55 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/13/2011

Defective throttle body.

56 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/11/2011

My vehicle was lurching at slow speeds when pulling into parking spots or parallel parking. In some instances it actually revved up high and I had to slam on the brakes for fear of running into something. With the air conditioner or heater on it's much worse. I took it to the dealer and they told me it was the throttle body but at the time my car only had roughly 48000 miles on it. The car had too few miles on it to have this type of problem, so I looked on the internet and found that many other owners of this vehicle have been having the same issues.

57 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/10/2011

On June 10, 2011 I allowed my son and daugter in-law along with there two small children to use our 2006 Ford Freestyle to drive to there vacation destination in nags head nc. They stopped in woodbridge va to spend the night. After obtaining a motel room they used the car to go to a resturant to eat and at this time while driving the car it began to accelerate and surg forward. Applying the brake seemed to have know effect on the condition. My son called me and ask what I thought he should do and I told him to take it to a local Ford dealer in the morning. On the morning of June 11 2011 he drove the car to cowles parkway Ford in woodbridge va. They reported to him that the car had a faulty throttle body and it would have to be replaced at a cost of $969. 00. The part was replaced and they proceeded to nags head nc. After some investigation on my part I decovered that Ford motor company knew that this problem existed but to the best of my knowledge did not inform owners. I would not have sent my family on a vacation with this car if I had known that this potetially dangerous situation could arise.

58 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

On the date shown, while driving in a funeral procession and entering the cemetery my vehicle started to lurch, lunge and bucking. Tried to give it gas but didn't respond. I then shut the vehicle off and when I started upon leaving the cemetery the vehicle started this again. I drove to the dealership and the maintenance person told me that this was being caused by a sensor and that I could shut the vehicle down and restart after a few minutes. This seemed to work for a while then the same problems kept occurring. This was mentioned a number of times to the dealer with the same explanation. I think that this problem has now created another in the the transmission on the vehicle is gone.

59 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

I drive a 2006 Freestyle. Just weeks after buying it from used dealer the vehicle started lunging when I would attempt to stop or be at a slow pace. Example being in parking lot and trying to park it would lung from about 1000 rpm to 4000-5000 rpms. This would throw my car forward. I did tap a car that day but no body damage. Also the car will be driving down the road and the wrench comes on and motor shuts down. There is no warning and has been very scary when merging into 75mph traffic with no where to go. On the 6th of June 2011 the throttle body was replaced. However within the 30 days all symptoms were occurring again. I had the compressor go out which cost $1000 to replace. On 12/02/11 I took the vehicle back to the shop, they ran codes and found it was the transmission. I have many accounts of the lunging and the wrench shut down issue. It has become very regular and makes my car very unreliable.

60 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/27/2011

Returning home with my children, when my 2006 Ford Freestyle lurched horribly, accelerating first, then dropping down to almost no power at all, with the yellow wrench light turned on, and then would barely accelerate till I got home and turned the engine off, then re-started it and the car acted relatively normal. Fortunately was on a country road, and no other cars around when incident occurred.

61 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/25/2011

Car lurches on its own with my foot on the brake. Happens most in reverse when backing up out of a parking space, but has also happened several times while idling in a drive thru line. I have had several near collisions due to this problem. It happens almost always when first put into reverse. I have learned to keep my foot on the brake. It is an ongoing problem.

62 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/13/2011

I have taken my 2007 Ford Freestyle to two separate dealers for surging. Neither dealer admitted hearing of this issue before. The car will surge urge to almost 2000 rpms and then die back to around 500 rpms and struggle to run. It will repeat this until the car is shut off and restarted. In the 4 years of ownership this has happened at least a dozen times as recently as last Friday. My wife refuses to drive the vehicle as it will do this at intersections and she does not trust the car to be able to accelerate when needed. I thought I was the only one having these issues according to the dealer service department.

63 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

Our 2005 Ford Freestyle has a surging problem. After reading online this appears to be very common. Very dangerous! seems to be related to the throttle body. Ford reccomends replacing the tb.

64 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

Upon starting the car and putting it in either reverse or forward, the engine would race and either lunge forward or backward. Whilst driving, the engine would sputter and stall. This was more prevalant when the air condition was turned on. On starting the car, I had to place my foot with a lot of pressure on the brake pedal to ensure that the car did not lunge. This was a very dangerous problem as I have two small children in the car and they could be hurt if the car stalled in heavy traffic and was struck. The dealer said that this was not under warranty and that they understood the problem but Ford has not issued a recall on the part. It was rather expensive to replace this part. I am urging the government to issue a recall on this part before someone gets seriously hurt or killed. The part in question is the throttle body.

65 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/10/2011

My car began having problems lunging forward while I was stopped at a school zone cross-walk waiting for children to cross. It lunged forward and stopped just inches from hitting 4 children. It terrified me!!!! it happened several times that day and the next day until I could get it in the shop. I was told it needed the throttle body replaced by the Ford mechanics but luckily I got by with just a throttle body cleaning. The car no longer lunges forward. About the same time, the car had problems feeling like it wouldn't get past 2nd gear and it wouldn't accelerate. I still don't know what caused this. A few months later the car started making a strange clicking noise that would get faster when I would accelerate then slower when I would brake. It quit making the noise by the time I could take it to get it looked at a few days later. The air conditioner won't get cold unless the car is in motion. The heater does the same thing. It only seems to happen on extreme temperature days. Then spontaneously, both these problems seemed to fix themselves. Just this week, my car backfired 2 times, then the next morning when I started it, it smelled horrible! I turned it off immediately, then the next day, it wouldn't start. Took it to my Ford mechanic, and he said everything checked out ok. He now thinks there is something wrong with the computer system. Everything I have read on the internet suggests that these have been huge problems for many Ford Freestyle owners. And yet no recall? come on Ford!! you have lost many loyal customers over this!! please help all of us to get a recall issued for this car!! I am a single mother of three children, and if I get stranded, I, like many people, have nobody to call and no way to pay if I get stranded. Please help before someone gets seriously injured or even killed. Many other probs but no room to list.

66 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 05/05/2011

The automobile surges when initialing engaging into either reverse or drive. Extreme pressure needs to be applied to the break to prevent the car from surging 5 to 10 feet, either backwards or forwards depending on which gear is selected. Took the car to danvers Ford in danvers, massachusetts. There service manager stated he had not heard of any surging problems. No error codes were detected. He contacted Ford motor company and the recommended the "throttle body" be replaced. For obvious safety reasons reasons, we complied and replaced the throttle body at an out-of-pocket expense to us of roughly $650.

67 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/26/2011

Vehicle accelerates, without depression of gas pedal. Lunge forward at stop lights while brake pedal is depressed. It surges in reverse as well, even with the brake pedal is depressed and the gas pedal is vacant. I called dealership, and they said it was the throttle body, it needs to be replaced and it would cost up to $1000. This is a huge safety hazard and it is common to all Ford Freestyles. It is most definitely a manufacturing flaw and it is only a matter of time before someone dies. The car already has surged into a pole once, it is getting bad.

68 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2006 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/09/2011

2006 Ford Freestyle lunging forward when in gear, slightly hit garage door. . . . . . I think a throttle body issue. Not repaired yet.

69 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/08/2011

Car surges then stalls then goes into limp mode. Happens once a month or more. If I turn the car off and restart it seems to clear and work fine.

70 Gasoline Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Freestyle

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Unexpected vehicle surging, near misses have occured, happens in reverse and drive.
