My 2006 Ford Freestyle lately has been having some problems with high rpms at a stop while in drive. With the high rpms it sometimes wants to lunge forward. About 80% of the time a wrench is displayed on the dash. Once the indicator wrench light is on the vehicle it will only accelerate to about 30 to 35 mph and the rpm go to about 3500. I know it is a cvt but the desciption is as if it does not want to change gears.

I purchased at 2005 Ford Freestyle in 2006. My veh now has 88,800 miles on it as of 07/18/11. Over the past year my veh has began accelerating when I shift the veh into a forward or reverse gear. My foot is always firmly on the brake. Recently, I have been turning the a/c on low and watching the rpm's before I shift into gear. My car will still jump on me and the motor will accelerate even at 500 rpm"s. I will not go through a drive thru because this is where my car will cause the most problems and I never know when my veh will begin to malfunction. I have called 2 Ford dealerships and they are aware of this issue, but they would have to duplicate the problem before they can diagnose anything. They state it could be a number of issues. I am reluctant to take it in cause I know that I will be spending lots of money and the problem will not be resolved. I think Ford needs to isolate the problem and fix it. This seems to be very similair to the issues that some of the Ford taurus's had in the past. Ths car is just a revamped Ford taurus. . . . Differnet look same problems!.

2006 Ford Freestyle sel suddenly lunging forward at idle speeds in either reverse or moving forward. I almost ran over a child, had it not been for my quick reflex with the breaks. Don gasgarth's Ford dealership in port charlotte, florida Ford wants $550 for the new version of the throttle body non heated which they are 100% in agreement has a faulty design and is making this problem and have already replaced hundreds at the owners' expense but has not recalled anything yet. This is a very very very quick fix (under 30 minutes work) and they are just dragging their feet. . . Someone will die as a result and Ford needs to fix this ASAP!!!.
I have had this problem only a few times the last 2 years we have owned the car, but recently, since it has been extremely hot in oklahoma, the Ford Freestyle that we have lunges forward just as you press the brake or let off. I have almost hit several cars, lunged into traffic at a red light, and have reversed into my garage with the brake on. It seems that problem occurs more than 5 times a day. It is to the point where it frightens me and threatens my family when driving in highly populated areas. I phoned a Ford dealership in my home town of muskogee,ok and they said it could be the throttle body but the cost of this is several hundred dollars (that I would not like to spend on a car with only 56,000 miles on it). I have done research and there are hundreds of posts about people with the same problem. This needs to be fixed pronto.
I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle which is having a problem with suddenly lurching forward when stopping. If I turn the car off and let it sit for a few minutes then the problem disappears. Something needs to be done about this issue because I know I'm not alone and it is a serious issue (I barely avoided running into someone at a drive through because of this). This problem has occurred when simply taking my foot off the breaks and not even pressing the gas pedal.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, the vehicle suddenly lunged forward although her foot was on the brake pedal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where an unknown part was replaced. The failure continued. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer because the vehicle would not drive in the reverse gear. The dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer who offered to cover half the repair costs. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
I purchased a 2005 Ford Freestyle on 2/6/05. It stopped working on 2/07/05, the vehicle completely shut down and I was towed back to the dealership. I have been driving around in a rental for nearly a week. Yet I've paid for a new vehicle. Ford really should work out the quirks before putting out a new vehicle. They are supposed replace the whole transmission on 2/14. This is ridiculous!.
