We own a 2006 Ford Freestyle and are only the 2nd owners of this car! we bought it in 2011 and are at our boiling point with it! the previous owners had to get the transmission rebuilt, we had owned the car for less than a year and had to get the transmission rebuilt again at almost $4,000! now 3 years after we fixed the transmission we are back at the same juncture where our transmission is causing us a problem again! I took it in because it was overheating and I ended up having to have the radiator and a portion of the water hose replaced at almost $1000! two days later I'm driving and as I pull off from a light I notice the car does a pretty heavy jerk forward! I thought I hit the pedal too hard so I didn't think much of it! but on my way back home each time I take off at a light my car is heaving forward and then it starts jerking a little violently and finally as I'm heading to the shop it starts stalling out and feeling like it's not catching gears to change! I have checked against other complaints for this same car and apparently this is a common issue, unfortunately, it looks like it's time for Ford motor company to step up to the plate and stop making your faithful car owners go for broke fixing an issue that is clearly a manufacturing issue/defect! they need to look into all the complaints and issue a recall and fix this problem once and for all free of charge! most people do not have thousands of dollars sitting around to fix their transmission every 3 years! we need our car fixed immediately as this is our only family car! please fix this issue for us!!!!!.

I bought this SUV 9-11-15 with the intent to go to my va appointments due to my medical conditions. The owner stated it had a few problems with the transmission, but I did not know that much about automobiles to understand what he was talking about. When I got ready to drive the car it would not change gears, just going forward but could go in reverse. I had it towed to a Ford dealership 35 miles away from my home to diagnosis the problem. They stated it needed a throttle body to correct the problem, but it did not, and I had to pay for the repair which they stated it would idle down the car before they could diagnosis the correct problem. Now they stating I have to replace the transmission in this vehicle for $6000. I do not have this much money to buy a transmission having to go back and forth to my appointments in SC and GA. Why this vehicle has no recalls on powertrain, throttle body, etc which the dealership state they do not know exist and is charging all this money for repairs which do not work. I need some kind of a resolution in this matter with this vehicle. I hate to junk the vehicle because it is in pristine condition and great for my traveling to the doctors.

April 2015, my vehicle started making knocking/grinding/ticking noises once it was started. Sometimes the transmission would fail to shift into gear(s). I prodeeded to physically move my shifter into gear(s) a few times. The transmission then shifted into gear(s), making a hard "clunk" sound. Sounding like the transmission had 'dropped' into gear; as if it had a low trasmission fluid level. Mind you, recently, a local shop changed my oil and all fluids were checked and refilled if needed. The shop informed me about code p0942, because they had never seen this code before in their life! engine-codes. Com states: "p0942 - hydraulic pressure unit" with a rating of 3/3 (3=high). I called a local Ford dealership, and was informed about this code; which doesn't identify the actual problem/issue; resulting in no specifics. On Thursday, August 20, 2015, while driving on the highway, my vehicle started to surge, and the rpm's continuously fluctuated (while the cruise was on). My vehicle then started to shake, and made a thumping/crunching noise, followed with the forward propulsion ceasing to exist. I frantically turned my fore ways on, and drifted until at a complete stop on the sholder of the highway. Again, while I physically shifted gear(s), the transmission sounded low on fluid, as if no (valid) shifting of gear(s)s and also maintained a humming noise. From the passenger seat, my 12 year old son, grabbed my hand and asked me to pray with him; pray that we'd make it home without getting hurt (our safety). Numerous times our vehicle shook tremendously when other vehicles passed by. Once home, I was still calming my son down, we both needed to sleep. That night, my son and I experienced a tramatic (nightmare like) situation. Now, Ford customers are forced upon (a) safety hazzard(s). Yes, preventable safety hazzard(s), if dealt with ASAP.

Check transmission light and check engine indicator came up wrench light lit up would not shift gears.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate and failed to shift gears. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who stated that the medtronics main control needed replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was reported to the manufacturer. The failure and current mileage was 62,000.
March of 2013 one of the 5 transmissions replaced . Lunging at low speeds , not shifting gears , dying, error codes wrench light comes on , this has occured with every incident which eventually lead to transmission failure everytime.
The vehicle 's engine just shut off. After pulling off the road I tried several times to start the vehicle, to no avail. I waited approximately 20 minutes before trying again. The engine started, but would not go in gear. After several attempts of trying to put it in gear, it suddenly worked! knowing I had a 250 mile trip back home, I was very leery about taking a chance with it. Fortunately, I made it. I contacted my mechanic and made an appointment to get the vehicle in the shop the next day. The diagnostic machine was used and it "threw" several different codes, rendering it undiagnosable? the mechanic called Ford motor corp. And they said they would get back with him. After 2 weeks of waiting, I called Ford myself and was treated extremely rude and also was told my mechanic was not qualified to diagnose this problem! two months later, I get a letter saying the 'throttle body" needed to be "cleaned out". . . At their expense. This procedure was done and I am continuously having problems with the transmission, especially when it gets cold (around 32 degrees). The vehicle will run after warming the engine (shutting it down/restarting repeatedly) before it decides to finally run "normal". I was told this resets the code??? I will never buy another Ford, they do not back their product or their name! Ford has been made aware of these problems with this cvt transmission and they need to correct the problem there are numerous complaints and we, the consumer, need help with this on going issue. Most can not afford to handle this repair and those who did, had not resolved this issue after spending thousands of dollars! I believe, when I purchased this vehicle (used) in 2007, Ford knew of this issue, but gave no knowledge to me. I did ask about this cvt transmission because I had never heard of it before. They informed me that it was the greatest transmission ever. . . Really!!!!.
2006 Ford Freestyle with 69,000 miles, while putting in forward or reverse vechicle would lurch and rpm's would rise to around 3500 Ford states it's an throttle body module problem. . Replaced throttle body module and now vehicle will not go into gear. Dealership now states its a transmission problem. Many reported problems with the Freestyle for exact problem. This is a safety problem and a recall should be issued.
On Monday July 25, 2001 the transmission in our 2007 Ford Freestyle would not change gears. When we would try to accelerate the engine would rev to very high rpm's because the transmission was not operating properly. We pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the nearest Ford dealership. We are now being told the the entire transmission needs to be replaced, a repair they are saying will cost a minimum of $5800. 00.
With my Freestyle there is an issue with the transmission or throttle control. There are times when I reverse or go forward from either a parked position or from a stopped position that the car will lunge. I have to apply the brakes sometimes to avoid hitting another auto. When I do this sometimes the car will stall and the "wrench" light will show up on the instrument panel. I have also had it not go into gear, it will lunge and then when I apply the gas the car will not shift into the next gear. The rpms will go up but even with the gas pedal to the floor it will not engage. I have taken to the car to where I have the extended warranty and they are stating that they have not heard of this problem. I have been told that without the light on there is no way to know what the problem is. This is a huge issue because there is no way to know when it will happen and you always need to be prepared to apply the brakes and this can result in a stalled vehicle which in turn could be struck by another vehicle causing bodily injury.
I have had problems with the car wanting to accelerate forward or backwards. At first I thought I was imaging until wil at walmart when I put the in reverse = car surged backwards while foot on the brake - about hit a child - when put in forward gear = car surged - jerked - had no rpms. At time of purchase I drilled the sales manager about the transmission and stated that I did not want the same problems as experienced with my windstar. Was told different type of transmission, update - not gear driven - solved the problems = have not had complaints about the transmission -(definitely a lie - found complaints on line0 at fort mill Ford in fort mill, SC. Once this problem started, had no rpm to speak of - drove with the accelerator to the floor - max speed I could reach was approx. 35 to 40 mph. After researching, it was found that Ford knew this has been a problem from first complaint (see on line) unless you force the issue - Ford dealers denys until brought to their attention the research I done on the problem - they replaced the throttle. I have no confidence that this has solved the problem. Ford should be foreced to do a complete recall - reimburse those that had to pay for this error which Ford was very knowledgeable due to the complaints on line. Ford needs to prove that they have solved this issue.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 30 mph the contact heard a clanging sound in the vehicle. The contact proceeded to accelerate but the vehicle would not move. The contact attempted to shift gears and the vehicle would not move to any gear. The contact was forced to push the vehicle into a parking lot. The vehicle was going to be towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The VIN was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 81,000.
I was driving down 2 lane road at approx. 40mph with my 7yr old daughter. The van suddenly went into neutral, there was no warning lights, noises etc. I was able to coast into parking lot, the van was running but would not go into any gear. Was towed to my home and called Ford dealership and was told that this is an ongoing problem with this van and probable need new transmission. Quoted at approx $1,600. 00-2,000. 00.
Transmission failed at 65000 miles on interstate. Would not work in any gear. $1500+ to rebuild. Common problem with freestars and windstars according to Ford forums.
My husband was backing our 2005 Ford Freestyle out of the garage at 8 am when it stopped moving, it would not go in any gear and the engine would not respond. My vehicle has 31,000 miles on it. After having it towed away on a flat bed tow truck and 2 days of diagnostics at a Ford dealer repair shop it was found to need an entirely new transmission. There were 6 failure codes inside my cvt transmission. I contacted Ford corp. Several times and they refused to assist in costs as my 3 years had expired even though at 30,000 miles I had complete transmission failure. Dealer states $5600. 00 to replace. I had to replace all 4 tires at 23,000 miles as manufacturer continental tires had worn out, power steering line broke at 30,000 miles. Vehicle is solely used for family transportation.
It should have been a sign when the brakes wore out at less than a year and less than 9,000. The car would idle high and jump before stepping on the gas. The car would get a jump start before I wanted it to move. A noise could be heard while the car was in park. However, it did change noises as I change gears. Driving the car would sound like it was roaring. During the winter time, the car was not good with the gears/transmission as it felt like it was slipping in the transmission and not sticking in the gear. The car is presently in the service station of the place I purchased the car and I have been advised the vehicle needs a transmission and catalytic converter. The car has a little over 62,000 miles and has been maintained.
