When cruising in the city or highway, the cvt transmission slips and downshifts to a lower gear, it would rev but no power. The car would not go any faster. The wrench icon in the dash would light up. The only way to remedy it is to stop the car and turn the engine off, then it resets. It happened to me multiple times in a day.

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the transmission slipped and hesitated. The vehicle emitted an abnormal noise and made a jarring movement when changing gears. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or mechanic. The failure mileage was 112,000.
Car was financed and purchased used from authorized Ford dealer in 2007 @ approx. 64k miles. Previous owner was registered as Ford motor CO. , indiana. On 12 Jun 2014, without warning, the continuously-variable transmission (cvt) first showed signs of a problem: failing to shift out of lower speed gear from a stop to higher gears during travel. Problem was remedied temporarily by shifting from d to r and back to d while stopped. The problem recurred sporadically, but within last week frequency of problem has increased while awaiting service appointment. This morning, 13-Aug-2014, transmission slipped and failed to engage in any forward gear while stopped at intersection, resulting in a complete loss of forward propulsion. Problem remedied by shifting from d to r and back to d, with significant difficultly. Service technician states that cvt failures in this make and model are common and recommends replacement of transmission with rebuilt (as transmission is no longer manufactured by Ford). Moreover, only Ford can perform the repair/replacement. No warning lights were activated during any of these events. Cost of repair will exceed value of car. $5800 or more versus $3600 trade-in or instant-cash offer price $1500. Ac compressor failure and rebuild (including rear ac) in 2012 cost $875.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle transmission started slipping recently. I have always taken good care of my car and my mechanic just told me that I need a new transmission. He also told me that there have been many problems with the 2007 Ford Freestyle transmissions. I cannot believe I have to replace my transmission which costs approximately $6,000. 00 to replace. I will be contacting Ford directly as well.

2007 Ford Freestyle- the transmission has a bearing going that is causing the transmission to slip. This car is only 4 yrs old. When you are driving you feel the engine reving up. Ford will not stand behind its warrantly on the replacement of the transmission. I also have had the wrench light go one. The car is starting to lose power when driving on the freeway, I also have had issues with the middle seat not going down properly. It was replace once when the car was first delivered and will not go down again. I also have paint peeling off left side of hood. This started when the car was less that 2 yrs old. Ford will not help with any of the costs to fix any of the above. I am located in ohio.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that at 60,000 miles, the oil pump and supply tube were replaced. Then at 83,000 miles the side shaft gear began to malfunction. The contact felt that the failure was due to the lack of lubricant the oil pump received when it was replaced. The dealer advised the contact that the two failures were not related and the shaft gear would have to be repaired at his expense. Furthermore, the contact stated that the transmission slipped and he was concerned that the vehicle might stall while he was driving. The failure mileage was approximately 82,500. The current mileage was approximately 83,000.
