Eight problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 2006 Ford Fusion. The most recently reported issues are listed below. Please also check out the statistics and reliability analysis of the 2006 Ford Fusion based on all problems reported for the 2006 Fusion.
Our Ford Fusion engine suddenly started dying in traffic. When stopping at a light or stop sign in traffic, the idle would drop below 5000 rpms, then suddenly the engine would die. After placing the vehicle in park, we would have to restart the engine. Usually would die after sitting still after about 10 seconds. Sometimes the vehicle wouldn't start backup right away, so we were stuck on the road until it finally decided to start. No check engine light or wrench would display. We took it in to Ford dealer and they determined the throttle body was defective. Apparently this is an issue with most Ford Fusions, as well as other models that use the same throttle body. The vehicle has 80,000 miles on it. Repair costs were over $1000. When is Ford going to address this issue for the Fusions that were made before 2009? thanks, larry doss.
When driving on the highway and roadway, such as bridges this summer, my vehicle stalled several times, lost power coming almost to a complete stop, putting my family and I at risk. When I pressed on the gas to accelerate, the engine begin to race, causing the "check engine light" to come on. It also jerked and skidded as I tried to maneuver the steering. To avoid accidents on these occasions, the vehicle had to be pulled over and subsequently, parked. Highway driving was also avoided most of the summer for safety and concern. There is also an issue with the front driver side airbag, as recent as this summer, the seal became distorted, twisted and cracked in the dashboard. Lastly, about 2 weeks ago, the rear door lock on the driver side no longer works, the door must be opened manually from the inside of the car. These are valid vehicle defects and safety issues and Ford must step up and do the right thing for all parties of interest.
Car started misfiring while accelerating about a month ago. Sometimes the kick was so much it felt like getting rear ended. Twice (both incidents within the same week) the vehicle went into limp mode. The first time was during accelerating to move around a slow vehicle to avoid hitting it and the second time the car would misfire everytime it reached 65 mph. I stopped at a red light and when the light turned green the car wouldn't respond to the gas pedal. I turned off the car and turned it back on and it started working again. The check engine light never came on. Ford diagnosed it as the throttle body being stuck open or closed. This same problem tends to happen with this same throttle body in a number of vehicles.
Traveling down busy local highway about 45mph in late rush hour traffic. The car suddenly began to run very rough and then engine stalled. Check engine light came on. The car had to be maneuvered to the side of the road with no power on very busy highway. There were a couple close calls but no accident thankfully. The car was towed to a local dealer. The dealer indicates the power train controller module (pcm) unit failed. This seems to be very common failure on these cars and it can be dangerous.
Driving with 20 month old child and 6 week old child when car began running rough and one of the check engine lights came on. The car lost power, it would roughly increase speed slowly when I stepped on the gas then suddenly it would speed up and smooth out a little, but was not running normally. The air conditioning also began to lose power. Since this continued, I made arrangement to borrow a car the same day as I felt this vehicle was unsafe to drive.
The contact owns a 2006 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
Transmission would shift out of a gear, car would rev up to high, then transmission would shift violently back in jerking the car around feeling like you have been rear ended. The transmission will slam so hard into gear when trying to accelerate( I have had this experience accelerating at 45mph and at 65mph) engine light comes on stays on for a few days goes off problem comes back a few days later. Only solution when this happens is to pull over and shut the car off. Once car is turned back on the gear shifter (automatic) is very tight to put in reverse or drive.
This vehicle lose power and slows down, it happened on the express way more than 5 times. I was almost rear ended by a semi truck. I only drive it on side streets now. It pops into gear very hard, the wrench light and the check engine light is on. It gets stuck in second gear and burns a lot of gas. It started soon after the warranty ran out. I had a lot of repairs done and the power train and engine is not working right as of yet, something is wrong with this Ford Fusion 06 and a lot of people are having the same problems with it. Why does it take the deaths of many innocent people first before there's a recall?.
