1 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2020

While driving and braking, it felt as if there was no brakes, the pedal went to the floor. I would describe this as an extended brake. Many times I've come very close to getting into an accident due to this issue. I've had the brake pads, brake rotors, calipers and now the master cylinder replaced with a brake fluid flush and this issue still remains. This issue is very unsafe and I feel this vehicle should be listed under the recall regarding the abs module. I called several different Ford dealerships and was told that my vehicle doesn't qualify for the recall. I called Ford customer service and they were no help either. The repaid I've made were costly, but this repair would be very costly in which I feel I shouldn't have to pay for.

2 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

Tl takata recall. The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. The contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 19v001000 (air bags). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but, offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 178,986.

3 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2019

I have been having problems with my brakes since April 2019. At that time, a new brake master cylinder was installed. When returning home from oklahoma city ok on 12/30/2019, my brakes failed. It is a 3 1/2 hour, 215 mile trip from oklahoma city to my home in hutchinson KS. Thankfully and fortunately or I wouldn't be here to send this "incident information", my brakes did not fail at highway speeds. I was traveling on city streets at 30-35 mph when they failed. I have had a new master cylinder installed but my brakes still do not feel right. Today, I received notice about the NHTSA recall 19v-904. Since I have already experienced brake problems, I would like to have my vehicle repaired ASAP because I am terrified of driving it at highway speeds.

4 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2019

A recall was issued for our 2008 for Fusion concerning the abs system. This recal is NHTSA 19v904. We have recieved postcards from Ford motor company concerning this critical defect in the brake system numerous times in the past 2 years, this problem has not been resolved and I feel the car may me unsafe to drive daily. The master cylinder has been replaced to try and remedy this problem over 2 years ago. Still, brake travel and fluid has lost pressure many times since while driving. The local dealer , nor Ford motor company, will not comment on the recall nor the repair that is needed and estimated time this will be.

The driver of the vehicle stated the brakes floored causing them to have to use the emergency brakes. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure reoccured about a week after. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure reoccured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated they had a previous filling of the issue with the id number: 10967298. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000. Gll.

6 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2019

Car has intermittently soft or spongy feeling to the brake pedal during what seems like no specific reason. Master cylinder has been replaced and issue continues. Bleeding the brakes doesn't cause any change and pumping the brakes only results in moderate return of the brake system.

7 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2019

Driving along the freeway I had to brake suddenly and the abs system malfunctioned causing the brake pedal to drop to the floor. Replaced the master cylinder but the problem still exists and the car is dangerous to drive. The abs valve replacement is $1,200. And the car only has 60,000 miles on it. Based on research this appears to be a very common problem for Ford and Lincoln. I've had to part the vehicle until I can figure out the proper fix.

8 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2018

While turning onto cty street the car in front of me stopped quickly causing me to slam on my brakes. The next stop sign I came to the brakes went to the floor. My son drove the car the next day and said he almost went into an intersection because the brakes went to the floor even after pumping them. The brakes are new the master cylinder is full of fluid. Ford must recall these vehicals immediatley, if a death is caused by continued delay you will be held accountable. Act now.

9 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving 20 mph, the vehicle failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the abs warning indicator illuminated. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer (grand ledge Ford, 6080 e saginaw hwy, grand ledge, mi 48837, (517) 627-8100) was contacted to schedule a second diagnostic appointment. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

10 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

On roughly five occasions my brake pedal has not allowed me to stop in sufficient time. The brake pedal went to the floor after hitting a rough patch and a wet road on a normal street. After pumping the brakes it resolves itself. Sometimes more quickly than other times. First time occurred, brakes were bled to remove air from line, then master cylinder was replaced and did not resolve the issue. Fortunately, no injuries due to my safe driving of distancing from previous vehicles. The belle tire current diagnoses is the faulty abs hydraulic control unit. Documenting last time happened: 11/7/18.

11 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2018

When braking on a rough road surface while moving the brake pedal moved towards the floor and went soft. After several applications of pumping the pedal the feel improved somewhat but did not get back to normal. Also, the free-play distance of the pedal travel increased over the previous normal condition. Took car to Ford dealer, they replaced the master cylinder, which did not fix issue. They then told me the abs hcu needed to be replaced. Vehicle is currently awaiting hcu replacement.

12 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2018

Extended braking distance #ea18002 issue. My 2008 Ford Fusion's abs system is causing the brake pedal to go to the floor. Horne freedom Ford in safford arizonia diagnosed the problem as a bad master cylinder when I specifically discussed the abs hydralic control with them before the diagnosis. The master cylinder was replaced and then the brake power booster based on freedom Ford's diagnosis. The brake pedal still had problems and shows the manufacturer is not capable of reliably testing and repairing the abs module on my 2008 Ford Fusion. This is a crititcal failure of Ford and dealers to diagnose and fix a safety defect in the abs hydraulic control unit.

13 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while his daughter was driving 35 mph, she had to depress the brake pedal to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local dealer horne freedom Ford (2161 e u. S. Hwy 70, thatcher, az 85552 (928) 428-1770) and the brake master cylinder was replaced. The contact stated he continued to experience the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called local dealer horne freedom Ford, where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer had not been made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was 16,000.

14 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

Second time reporting a recurrent issue. This year/model vehicle has a known issue with the hydraulic control unit (hcu), which affects braking capacity, and either is or was under an open investigation. The hcu/abs function of this vehicle can become disabled when jarred by hitting a large bump - such as a pothole - while the brake is engaged and the vehicle is still in motion. When this occurs the brake pedal becomes instantly soft, loses braking power, and travels a much further distance towards the floor. This instant decrease of brake pressure drastically increases the stopping time of the vehicle. A potentially very dangerous safety concern. The jarring of the vehicle only has a negative affect if the brake is being engaged at the time of jarring. This particular vehicle has had 3 of these braking incidences within the past 12 months. (first incident previously reported to NHTSA in Dec. 2017). None of which have resulted in an accident as of yet. The pedal will remain soft for some time. It seemingly can be "reset" either randomly, or with excessive brake pumping over a substantial period of time. This so-called "reset" could just be a fortunate fluke. I have read in other reports of a similar unknown "reset" effect, until the next episode. Local Ford dealerships and other independent service stations seem to be completely unaware of the issue. Often misdiagnosing the master cylinder as the problem initially. I thought I had heard or read that a replacement hcu part may have been released with a different internal lubricant substance, which would supposedly prevent the hcu valves from malfunctioning. I haven't been able to verify this. If I knew that better quality, remedied replacement parts were available, I would have this part replaced. However, I do not want to proceed with an expensive repair only to have the same recurrent issues with a faulty part.

15 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2018

2008 Ford Fusion se v6 76,000 miles. We have had an on going issue with the brakes over the last year. After an abs event the brake padel goes right to the floor with minimal stopping power. After 3 trips to our machanic, system checked, brakes flushed and bleeded and $$$$ spent it is still happening. We were hoping it was resolved until the last incident the other day almost resulted in a serious accident. Thank god the other vehicle had brakes that worked properly as I braked and went straight through a red light!! this is not a master cylinder problem. It is 100% the abs pump and module unit!! the system fails and there is no warning light on the dash! so we currently have a ticking time bomb for a passanger air bag and a car that may or may not stop when the brakes are applied. This is a huge problem Ford!!! we are still waiting for the airbag replacement and now there is major brake problem that may cause the hand grenade to go off in a collision! there needs to be a recall before there is a fatality.

16 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2018

Having brake issues with my Ford Fusion. When breaking the pedal is sinks to the floor, replaced master cylinder bleed the brakes and still having issues with it the pedal goes all the way to the floor and feels spongey. Very unsafe to drive car brakes are not immediately responsive takes a few seconds before the car starts to slow down. Note I am not the only one who is having issues with the brakes.

17 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2018

When braking my brake pedal is spongy, and the vehicle has difficulty stopping. I have difficulty stopping the vehicle even at speeds less than 25 mph. The result is a stopping distance that is doubled from any other vehicle with abs I've ever driven. In an attempt to resolve this issue, and make the vehicle safe to drive, I have replaced brake calipers, pads, rotors, master cylinder, brake fluid flush and bleeding the brake system. The only other repairs that can be made to resolve this issue is replacing the abs control module, and abs pressure modulator valve, once these repairs are completed the total amount to attempt to resolve this issue will be in excess of $2500.

18 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard, but it took numerous attempts to stop the vehicle. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to waldorf Ford (2440 crain hwy, waldorf, MD 20601, (301) 234-7591) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. An independent mechanic diagnosed and repaired the master cylinder. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 36,000.

19 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2018

On or about Wednesday, may 30, 2018 on the commute home from work I pushed on the brakes as I came to a stop light. The brakes weren't there and the brake pedal continued to the floor board, I began pumping the brakes to stop and was able to stop. I took back roads to get off the main highway and experienced the same problem at each stop sign. At a 4 way stop sign I coasted from about two blocks to a bare crawl anticipating that would help me actually stop - it didn't - my vehicle continued slowly past the 4 way into the middle of the intersection and a vehicle that had the right of way on the right stopped to let me continue as I waved and expressed I was sorry the best way I could. I made it home and called the tire/brake shop and told them what happened. I then drove the same route to the tire/brake shop and the brake lines were bled, new calipers, etc. The auto repairmen stated the master cylinder valve was compromised and to watch for the same problem because something was wrong and the next time would require extensive and costly replacement. This was my only vehicle I had access to commute to and from work each day.

20 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2018

My brake master cylinder was replaced in June 2017. Just had the power booster replaced on may 4, 2018. It is now having the same problem as on may 4th - brakes going all the way down, have to pump brakes in order to stop. I was traveling from oceanside CA to scottsdale az on may 4th and just around town today, may 22 here in oceanside.

21 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2018

Son was in an accident where he rear ended a vehicle. The car in front stopped short and my son tried to stop but brake pedal went to floor. Accident occurred on rural 2 lane road at about 30 mph. My son tried to swerve off the road to miss the vehicle but clipped him. Over $4,000 in repairs and brakes are still very soft. New calipers, master cylinder and still not right.

22 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

My vehicle was in motion every time the problem occurs. I lose all braking ability for approximately two to no more than five second periods. This has occurred on six total occasions on different days and months. I have replaced my vehicles master cylinder six months ago. I don't feel safe driving my own car. I have witnesses that can confirm this information. The problem has occurred on highways, public roads, also in private drives.

23 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2018

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving 15 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to pittsboro Ford (1245 thompson st, pittsboro, nc 27312, (919) 542-3131) where it was diagnosed and the abm and master cylinder were replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 260,000.

24 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2017

The car lost braking power. When the abs brakes engaged, I had to push the brake pedal all the way down to get them to engage. My mechanic replaced the master cylinder initially. This fixed the problem temporarily, but later, again when the abs engaged, the pedal got spongy and the pedal had to go all the way to the floor to brake. Then, my mechanic found that this was a known defect and replaced the abs control module, costing me > $1,000. The part cost $805. This problem should be recalled.

25 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

Brake pedal goes soft for no reason at all times for a unidentified reason. I have replaced master cylinder, brakes, rotors, and even had the brake lines checked and everything is working fine. Brakes feel like they are not stopping car, you must push the pedal all the way to ground before you get a stop and if you let up just a little the car starts to roll.

26 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2017

Yesterday I was turning left from a 2 lane road onto the one lane street where I work and had to brake suddenly because a car was stopped at the entrance to the road. I believe this engaged my abs. Immediately after that, my brakes suddenly required me to push my brake pedal almost to the floor to engage it. I brought it to a mechanic this morning and they recommended I replace the master cylinder but that there is no test to know if that would even fix it. I googled this issue and come to find out it is a very common issue with a faulty hcu in all 2008 Ford Fusions. I do not understand why this known issue is not a formal recall as it is putting people's lives as risk including mine. Also, because it is not a formal recall, people are wasting hundreds of dollars on master cylinder replacement when that does not fix the issue at all. Please get this extremely dangerous issue addressed so everyone with a 2008 Ford Fusion gets the hcu replaced and can brake safely. Here are some links that describe this exact same issue on other Ford Fusions. Https://youtu. . Read more...

27 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2017

In November of 2017 my break pedal became unresponsive and would go all the way to the floor when's pressed. It would break after I pumped my breaks but breaking was still compromised. I replaced my master cylinder and bled my breaks, checked for leaks to no avai. I took it to a mechanic and he's could find nothing wrong but suspected the abs hydraulic control unit. This issue can only be handled by Ford dealerships. No harsh breaking occurred to cause the issue and I narrowly avoided an accident due to the failure (I had to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid the accident). I feel this is a safety issue and should be recalled because I researched it and found numerous complaints that are similar to mine and I could've seriously injured myself or others due to the problem.

28 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

Tucson, az. City driving; potholes and sand on roadways common. No evasive or avoidance skidding preceded poor brake performance. Brake pedal must be pushed nearly to the floor to get brake action, which is only partial brake effectiveness. Brake repair shop replaced master cylinder - no change in brake performance. Brake repair shop then replaced abs hydraulic control unit - brake performance returns to normal. Brake shop advised abs can activate with cause, then hcu valve sticks open, creating reported condition.

29 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 07/12/2017

I was driving down the highway at 70pmh, tried to slow entering a curve onto another highway, 271s to 71s, in ohio and had to hit my brakes hard because traffic jammed suddenly. I didn't have brakes at all, my abs never kicked in. I went off the side of the highway and even then couldn't stop with my foot all the way down. I nearly hit the person in front of me going about 50+. I took it directly to my mechanic who replaced my master cylinder again (2x in 5 months) and after he was done the pedal no longer brakes properly. When attempting to stop the pedal is nearly to the floor. It is akin to not having pedals at all. I have to stand on it to stop and even then its the panic feeling of being unable to stop. This is an issue that could kill and I've read many other stories of people with similar issues with braking. Ford said that happens sometimes when my mechanic called and gave no further reasoning to it. I don't feel safe driving a car I've had a year that's not even a decade old.

30 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2017

No brakes . . . . My car has been basically yard art for several months . . . . Have had issues with spongy brakes for years if I had to stop suddenly and the abs brakes where engaged . . . Then the brakes would go spongy. . Another time I didn't even know if the car was going to stop I slide instead of stopping . . . This past may 2017 I was in traffic and a car pulled out in front of me had to slam my brakes on and I barely got stopped ! scared me to death . . Brakes were extremely spongy by the time I made it home I didn't have any brakes at all !!! my husband replaced brake pads , calibers, master cylinder , and rotors ! well over $700 I paid out . Still have no brakes at all . This is a safety issue why is nothing being done ????? I'm the only income my family has and now I have a car almost paid for that just sits !!! it's yard art prett much . . . . I am spending a fortune to get to work and back and can't afford the $500 for theabs module / pump not to mention the cost to have it put on !!! this is horrible . . . I'm already die hard Ford girl but after his experience I will never buy another one . . . .

31 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

Brakes were operational w/ normal function/ response. I firmly pressed the pedal, to avoid a pothole, traveling over a railroad crossing. Immediately thereafter, the brakes became/remain 30% effective, w/ no loss of fluid. I've had my mechanic replace the abs module & master cylinder to no avail/ success. I'll now take to dealer for diagnostics, so I may unload/sell immediately thereafter repairs.

32 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving 45 mph, the master cylinder and brake booster malfunctioned. The contact loss complete control of the brake functionality and had to engage the emergency brake to come to a complete stop. It was diagnosed that the failure was due to the master cylinder or brake booster control. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,597.

33 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2017

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact drove over a bump and lost braking ability. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floor. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the master cylinder needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 72,000.

34 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Brake pedal collapsing before brakes engage. Replaced vacuum booster and master cylinder in attempt to repair. Slightly improved but condition still exist, diminishing brake effectiveness. I relied on reputable shop for these repairs and spent $700 for only partial improvement. Google search indicates a failure in the abs valving. Unknown if abs works in this condition. Abs was severely engaged within weeks before failure. See the following from google "2008 Ford Fusion soft brake pedal. This video describes all circumstances perfectly, other than on this car, the brake pedal is constantly diminished at any speed whenever driven. . Read more...

35 Brake Master Cylinder problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2017

For around 8 months, often while braking my brake pedal will lose pressure and go almost to the floor. It doesn't lose all pressure but makes for a difficult stop. This has caused me several times to almost rear end other cars and not be able to slow down enough while taking corners. It happens in motion highway and city. More so on bumpy roads or harder braking. My mechanic, which is at a Ford dealer checks everything out for me every oil change. He states that there are no leaks and the master cylinder if functioning properly. I believe it was the hydraulic control unit that he suggested could be the issue. There are numerous complaints online about similar year cars having the same issue. I consider this a serious safety issue, I believe the reason I haven't had an accident is that I'm used to the issue now, but I believe it's a matter of time before an accident happens.
