9 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2019

Slight rain, 35 mph, hit brakes to make a right hand turn from clifton road to davis Ford rd. Brake failed, I could not make it onto either my new road nor remain in my old road. I managed to drive between the open gates of a cemetery at the intersection. The very rough terrain (massive pothole and clay/gravel surface helped me slow. I did have some breaking power at the very bottom of my pedal's reach, but I had no response where my brakes had been working before. I have since read that brake failure due to abs malfunction in common for this model. People can die at 35 mph, I am extremely lucky I had some place to go that did not involve one of the two light poles, a gate post, or a ditch.

10 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While the contact's son was driving 25 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard and the vehicle drove through an intersection. There was no crash. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was advised to take the vehicle to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 149,172.

11 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

The hydraulic control unit for the brakes is not working properly. This occurred after the vehicle tires spun slightly in about 1/2-1 inch of snow while pulling out of a parking spot onto a paved city street triggering the asb. The vehicle was parked inside a garage for a week before being driven again and the braking problem discovered. Now when you press on the brake pedal to slow down or stop, it fades down before coming to a hard stop and the vehicle takes a greater distance to stop. There is great concern that the brakes will fail completely, causing an accident. This issue should be addressed as a safety recall.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

Brake failure. On two separate occasions while attempting to stop my car at a city intersection the brake pedal, upon application, travelled all the way to the floor without the brakes engaging. I immediately let off the brake pedal and began to pump the pedal, which eventually engaged the brakes softly. Fortunately both times I was able to finally stop the vehicle before colliding with another car. For a little while after that the brakes continued to be very soft, requiring much more pedal travel than normal.

13 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2018

Sudden brake failure after applying brakes on damp pavement. Speed was about 30 mph on a city street. After pumping pedal, brakes returned but pedal was soft and nearly to the floorboard. Brakes have remained soft greatly extending braking distance making vehicle unsafe to drive. This came without any warning or indication on the dashboard that brake system was compromised. After speaking with a Ford technician, the opinion was possible failure of the hydraulic control module and needed to be followed up. This incident was a very close call with a utility pole and thanks to a working emergency brake and quick thinking, an accident was avoided. This needs to be investigated with a possible recall.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

Brake pedal fade. When applying brakes, pedal goes almost to the floor resulting in panic type reflexes. Have had issues not being able to stop in allotted time. Has happened in the past, but seemed to have "corrected" itself. Recently have had snowy, wet road conditions and issue has come back. Very unsafe, could result in an accident, could result in injury and/or death. Read a lot of complaints about same issue. This should be investigated and recalled for brake failure. This is a definite safety risk, not only for the occupants in the Ford, but also for any vehicles and/or pedestrians in the area when brake pedal fails. Mileage on said vehicle is 142,977. Not sure of date when first happened. Pedal fade when at stop, trying to stop, city roads, highway speeds, basically anytime brake pedal applied.

15 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2017

On December 7, 2016, I was driving home from work in extremely cold temperatures (roughly -20 degrees) and on snow and ice. During a stop, my abs engaged and after that time, my brakes became very soft, required the pedal to be pushed almost all the way to the floor and offered very little stopping power. I had my car towed to the dealership which was already closed for the evening. The next day, they were unable to recreate the problem and theorized that the extreme cold temperatures didn't allow the hydraulic control unit (hcu) to reroute fluid properly after the abs engaged. They advised me that if it happened again, I may need to replace the hydraulic control unit. I'm guessing my car had roughly 100,000 miles on it at that time. On November 4, 2017, I was driving in a blizzard that had started after a period of rain so the roads were extremely slick and icy. Once again, my abs engaged which led to a brake failure. I also happened to be at the summit of a mountain with a 5% grade - not a great time to lose your brakes! I took my car in to a shop on 11-6-17 to have them diagnose the problem. They witnessed the brake failure and after testing, determined that the hydraulic control unit had failed. They replaced the hcu (with a used unit at a materials/labor cost of roughly $450) and I will see what happens next time my abs engages. My car currently has about 115,000 miles on it. I consider myself extremely lucky that I did not get into an accident during either of these malfunctions. The hcu failure is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed and can be extremely dangerous.

16 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2017

At times my abs will kick in when hitting a bump while braking or when hard braking, after the abs kicks in I lose all pressure and have to floor my brake pedal to be able to stop. Eventually my brakes re pressurize but this takes time, this last event took 2. 5 weeks for my brakes to "come back". This is also no the first time this has happened. I almost hit a girl crossing the street, my abs kicked in, then my brakes failed and I had to floor the brake pedal to stop, I nearly hit the girl. Thankfully I realized what happened and knew to floor my brake pedal. First incident: I was braking to a stop and my tire hit a raised manhole cover in the road, wasn't real hard but enough that my brakes "failed" and I skidded into the intersection, thankfully no one was moving yet. My brakes recovered a couple days later. Second incident: the young girl I almost hit, I mentioned this in the above paragraph. Heading to work, doing about 30, I spaced out for a min, girl starts to cross, I slam on the brakes. (yes, I know, it was bad all around). The abs kicks in, I start to slow, then I lose 99% of my brakes and I have to floor my pedal to stop from hitting her. I came within 5 feet of the girl. There have been other instances but I don't remember specifics. Although, the two events above, the first one was about 2 years ago, the second was 2 weeks ago.

17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2017

Whole brake system failed 01/04/2013. Had whole system replaced at a cost of over $1700. It is happening again and Ford wants me to replace the whole system again for close to $2000. 00. I had them flush system which seemed to solve the issue for only a month. I am afraid I am going to injury myself or someone else. Is there any action I can take to get Ford to admit there is a defect in there brakes?01/.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2016

Brake failure on uneven surface.

19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2016

I was pulling into a parking spot, the car went over curb and into a tree that stopped me. The brakes seemed to work after that but was I afraid to drive the vehicle. I have taken it to a mechanic he cant find the part because Ford doesn't make that part anymore. I'm still without a vehicle. I saw on the news you were investigating 2007-2009 Ford Fusions for brake pressure failure I believe that is what happened to me.

20 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2016

Brake failure over bumps or slippery surfaces. Abs triggers and lose brake functionality. Pedal goes soft and goes all the way to the floor.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 45 mph, the driver slammed on the brakes to avoid rear ending the preceding vehicle. The contact stated that the brakes failed to stop the vehicle promptly and the abs warning indicator illuminated. On another occasion, while driving approximately 20 mph, the brakes failed to stop while the vehicle was at a stop sign. The vehicle crashed into a trailer. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was damaged, but not towed. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The contact did not receive notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags). The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

22 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

I bought my 2008 Ford Fusion sel (v-6) from the local Ford dealer in 2009 - the car spent the first year of its life as a rental car. I just watched a feature on cnn about Ford Fusions brakes failing on occasion. Several times since I've owned my Fusion, the brakes have failed when pulling head-on into a parking spot - never has this happened during a routine straight-on stop. When this happens, the engine also revs up, making stopping even more difficult. The car lurches 2 to 3 feet before coming to a stop. I have attributed (guessed) the problem to be the brake pedal going down too far causing my overlapping shoe to contact the accelerator pedal (the two pedals are very close to each other). I'm 75 years old and have been driving for 64 years and I have never encountered a problem like this with any vehicle; I've become very apprehensive when driving my Fusion because of this random problem. My Fusion is also under a takata air bag recall - I received a letter several months ago from Ford, but have heard nothing since.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2016

On three occasions in the past twelve months the brakes nearly failed (went soft) while braking in rain or a rough surface. I reported this to my service technician on my last visit of 11/15/16. The brakes were checked and no problems were found. The technician had no knowledge of this type of problem.

24 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2016

Hit a pothole with right wheel during turn at intersection on a city street. Felt like abs system engaged but did not reset; heard loud crack. Brakes failed immediately afterwards. Peddle went to floor initially; continued to pump brakes until some braking ability returned. Drove slowly and experienced same at two more stops before having car towed to mechanic. Did not try to drive after turning engine off, however mechanic was unable to replicate any braking problems. A thorough inspection showed no apparent problems with brakes or system. Mechanic did find note in computer log that abs had lost communication at one point. This happed Nov. 4, 2016. Brake loss has never happened before and has not happened since, and I haven't hit any potholes since. Noted news story Dec. 27, 2016 of other Ford Fusions having this same problem.

25 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Fusion. While driving approximately 65 mph, the brakes failed to engage and there were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the mechanic advised her not to drive the vehicle due to the brakes being inoperable. The manufacturer was not notified and no repairs were made. The failure mileage was 159,000.

26 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2016

The problem initially began because I had to brake hard to avoid an accident on the freeway and the brakes failed. After restarting the vehicle the brakes went back to normal. A week later as I was driving down a street, I braked normally to pull in to a business parking lot and the brakes failed almost completely. The pedal went down to the floor and would not stop the vehicle in a safe distance. Also, they had a spongy feel. They would not properly grip until I turned the car off and then on again. Had there been another vehicle in front of me I would have hit them, or if this happened on a local freeway here in houston, TX it could be potentially fatal. After researching the problem, I learned that many other individuals have had the same exact issue. The problem appears to be a faulty abs modulator.

27 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

My brakes keep failing on my car , even after new brakes. They go all the way to the floor and I have almost been in 6 different accidents, once having to take the shoulder of the road and damaging a rim. It started at 14000 ish off and on and I only have 59000 on it now, and Ford needs to take care of this. I have read so many complaints of the same. I mean this is not only dangerous for me and my passengers , but for anyone in front of me. I want my insurance company to know I have reported this issue, and I also have printed a file of all complaints I have found. They not only fail, but they grind. . . . . With new rotors and brakes as everyone else is saying. I cannot drive it if it rains or snows, because you just cannot stop the car. I nearly was in a pile up on the hiway as well. It is scarey. I would challenge them on this. The other day I could not stop again. This is a problem . . . . So many people are complaining of the same thing.

28 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2013

After braking on ice, the abs engaged then the brakes became spongy and the brake pedal went to the floor. It was snowing very badly and the sponginess continued until the car sat still for hours and then the brake pedal pressure returned. Eight months later on a hot, dry day, while braking over a raised joint on the pavement, the abs engaged and the brakes again became spongy and the brake pedal went to the floor again. We came home and bled the brakes thinking the action of the abs might have agitated the brake fluid causing bubbles, but the fluid was not foamy only small amounts of air came out. But the brakes two days later are still spongy. We looked on the internet and found forum after forum on websites complaining about this same problem, but there are no recalls on this vehicle, but other Ford vehicles have been recalled for abs issues. I am scared the brakes will fail when I need them the most.

29 Brakes Failed problem
