36 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2016

In the last 24 hours my vehicle stalled on the freeway (I was almost rear-ended--this highway has a curb on both sides instead of shoulders) 4 times in 5 miles. The first time was as I was turning onto the highway from an intersection. Each time, I was unable to accelerate the car with the gas pedal. Each time, this was preceded by a lurching forward and a sluggish performance of the engine for about 1 second before the engine no longer powers the wheels. The wrench light comes on and I have to turn the car off and then turn it back on in order to be able to accelerate again. As I said, when I would accelerate, the engine would die, and this happened four times. When I restart the car, but before it dies again, the check engine light comes on. This is an issue with other 2011 Ford Fusions that the NHTSA has already investigated--the throttle body is defective. However, somehow the NHTSA let Ford off the hook and didn't recall the part and allowed Ford to only apply the "customer satisfaction program 13n03" to cars with automatic transmissions. I have a manual transmission car. I will tell you that exactly what happened in cars that initiated the investigation and this program is exactly what is happening in my car. The investigation needs to be reopened and this throttle body needs to be recalled for all transmission types. I was almost rear-ended by a car going 55 mph, even though I had my 4-way flashers on in the right lane, because the highway my car died on a does not have shoulders. This defective part is an extreme safety hazard and needs to be recalled!!.

My son and his new family were going across a major intersection when the car just died. They were almost hit by other cars. They coasted across the intersection, then shut the car off then restarted it it drove for a few feet then died again. My son pulled to the side of the road. There was also two children in the car, 3 year old and 2 month old. I had it towed to a dealer. They told me it was the throttle body that failed. Then I did research and found this was a common problem for this car,and that many people were also involved in near misses and or accident.

47 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2016

After many failed temps from Ford for my body throttle issues & Fords dealer refusal to replace the throttle body, bc the code isn't present when they hook up they're device to it(Ford rules). Even though is known with Ford they code will clear when the car is turned off or in my case sometimes shut off by itself when the wrench light appears. 06/02/15ford dealer did a pcm update for the t. Body & was good to go. Less than a month later issues started again. It has happened countless of times with my bf & w. My kids in the car. I called davidson Ford & spoke to the manger where he stated not to shut the car off so the code doesnt clear & I asked if the tow guy would leave the car on to bring it here. He goes well no! they weren¿t of help ever. On 03/07/16 heading home my car went in limp mode & steering went stiff. I couldnt control the car & ended up hitting a guard rail. My car got damage & hurt my back. The officer stated I was lucky bc 20 more ft I would of hit the telephone pole. The tow truck guy also stated the car wasn¿t safe to drive. The nxt day my bf called Ford(who open a case)& state farm our insur. Co. We went to n. Side collison were we explained the situation & recalls on my car. He said he would try & talk to Ford to see what he could do. He couldn¿t do anything & we had to deal with Ford. This collison center was on a time frame & real pushy. So I had the car transferred to alan buyer collison center who works w. My insur. & Ford. We¿ve played phone tag with Ford csd. The claim was sent to Fords legal general council whose supposed to handle the case & had 15 business to respond. They haven¿t responded or try to make contact with us!I was also told by Fords csd not to have the collison center do anything till we hear from the legal counsel. My car has been at the c. C 62+days untouched. I upload letter I sent to Ford company.

48 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

My 2011 Fusion has 66,000 miles on it, and he ptu (power transfer box) is leaking. My "warranty" expired at 60k miles, so Ford will not do anything for me. This is a known issue with Ford, and they are ignoring it. My awd shouldn't fail with fewer than 67k miles. Oil leaks all over, I am now unable to turn on point. Loud raddling noises that could only be detected after a point turn.

56 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2015

The above car displayed a trouble light. A mechanic used an odb ii scanner and diagnosed the engine problem with the code "p2119" I did some research on line and found out that this is a common problem involving the throttle body. Is this a recall item?.

57 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/03/2015

Driving at 60 mph my car shut off power and surged. Throttle was not responding. Had to pull off onto a side road and shut the engine off. It would only idle at that time. After calling for help we found that the engine restarted and drove ok. No check engine light. Drove it home and it ran ok for about 1 month. Next time I was starting up from a stoplight in traffic and the throttle would not speed the car up. Coasted through traffic to a service road and killed the engine (was at idle) and restarted ok. Third occurrence was 2 days later when the engine stalled several times between shopping center and home. Would restart ok but throttle would quit working again. After researching on the internet, we ordered a replacement throttle body and put it on ourselves rather than attempting to get Ford dealer to do some sort of extension of warranty repair. No recall had been received for this problem. Very dangerous situation when car loses power in heavy traffic so did not want to continue driving since the part was available and easy to replace. Ford should issue a recall for these defective throttle body parts.

58 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

Driving down interstate vehicle stopped responding. Wrench light came on, diagnosed as faulty throttle body.

59 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

My husband and I bought a 2011 Ford Fusion in December of 2012, it was used we bought it. I had 30,000 miles when we first drove it. We do regular maintance on the car and never had a problem with it. It was not until it reached over the 50,000 miles he started to have problems with it. The check fuel inlet light keeps coming on about every other week after we put fuel in the vehicle. We read the manual, and did as it said to follow the steps as suggested. It works for a while but the message keeps coming back. This week, the motor service light come up, and it scared me to dead. I did some research and found out there is a whole lot of people with the same problem. I'm wondering how come they haven't made a recall. I don't want to take my car in to get it fix if its something that its defective and the car dealer must take care of it. Thank you, rosa venzor.

60 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

Mpg was not adding up though it was just me than I would notice spots of gasoline on the floor and did a inspection and looked normal until filled gas a bit higher than half and started leaking. And some loss of steering would happen here and there and decided to inspect it to couple of codes would come up in a dtc test.

61 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2014

My vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic (several times), while driving 25 mph. It stopped with no pre warning signs. The car is only 3 years old and I only purchased it less than four months ago. This is very disheartening!.

62 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2014

Going down the road and there was a thump and the gas pedal quit working. The car didn't go dead but the gas pedal wouldn't accelerate the vehicle, coasted to the side of the road, turned it off and back on and the gas pedal worked. It did this twice on 8/22/14, once on 8/24/14 and has done it once today so far 8/25/2014. The first time it did this was 9/12/13 and it didn't do it again until 8/22/14. There are pages and pages of Ford Fusion owners having this same problem and they say it is the throttle body causing the problem. When it did it today I was pulling out on to the highway from a stop sign and could not accelerate to get across the road. I had to stop in the center lane to keep from being hit. Ford needs to fix this before someone is killed. I am scared to drive my own car but don't have any other way to get to work. The reference # for last years complaint is 10543529.

63 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

I attempted to drive my car but it suddenly shut off and powered down when I pulled out of a parking lot of an establishment. I restarted my car and drove to my destination. This happened on 07/07/14. There were no indications of vehicle issue as no maintenance or warning lights came on. The next time this happened was on 07/11/14. This happened five times during a thirty minute period where the car would travel a mile and then would shut off. During this time when the car would shut off the maintenance light would come on when it shut off but not when it turned on and it had a rough ignition. This occurred again on 07/14/14. I attempted to take the car to work on 07/16/14 and the car shut off en route less than two miles from my home by shutting down and a maintenance light coming on. Took the vehicle to a auto zone store in my area to have the computer checked for codes and code p2111 was the result. The repair needed was a throttle body for the vehicle.

64 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2014

While driving down the interstate to work, the car all of the sudden jerked and started to decelerate. I was able to pull off onto the shoulder, while the car continued to jerk forward. I turned off the ignition, waited a few seconds, and restarted the car. I proceeded to reenter the highway, and a few seconds later it did the same thing again. I once again pulled off onto the shoulder, turned off the ignition, and restarted the car. This time the car ran fine all the way to work. I am concerned that since the freeway has a few construction spots where there are no shoulder pulloffs, I could have been in a serious accident.

65 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2014

I own a 2011 Ford Fusion. While taking my child to a birthday party we noticed surges in power at no previous inclination of a problem. Two days later I noticed the same surge in power as if the car wanted to speed up and slow down on its own. The problem progressed a few days later to surges in power and also my car then completely died at a red light. It is now four days later and the problem has rapidly increased to a problem of dying while driving down the road and dying while idling sitting in the drive way. This is a serious safety issue, a car should not accelerate and decelerate or completely die while driving down the road. I could possibly see a serious issue or accident occurring because of this problem. I have researched issues with my model of car and have seen several people have the same issue and share my concern.

66 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2014

I was traveling 55 mph. Suddenly lost rpm and engine started sputtering and within 5 second my car was dead in fast lane with no shoulder to pull over. Cars braking hard behind me and honking. I was able to restart the car and moved to a gas station near by. Took the car to an autozone. They read the engine light code p2111, which is an issue with throttle actuator. Looked it up on google search. In my first search found hundreds of posting problem with this vehicle Ford Fusion 2011. The engine just goes dead no telling where and when. I was very lucky that did not get hit or lose control. Imagine engine goes dead when you are traveling 55 mph or higher in a fast lane next thing you know, you are at complete stop with no brake or steering. See for yourself search for throttle body Ford Fusion.

67 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

I was driving my car and suddenly the engine just shut down in the middle of the traffic. This has happened constantly in the last couple of days. For a temporary fix we would need to turn the engine off and then on so the issue temporary “disappears” this is a very serious situation and put the drive and other at risk.

68 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2014

Vehicle over accelerated when coming to a stop. I put both feet on brakes and shifted into park/neutral (has happened several times) and car accelerates to over 7000 rpm and automatically goes back down to normal. I have had the throttle body & motor assembly replaced (4/28/2014) yet it happened again immediately upon initial drive from Ford dealership. Dealership kept my car for 3 additional days and then advised that they could find nothing wrong and I was told (sales general manager) that what I was reporting to them "could not happen".

69 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2014

My wife, [xxx], was driving our Fusion. She had traveled approx. 1/4 mile and was approaching a stop sign at bayside dr. Newport beach,CA at the harbor is. Dr. Intersection. Suddenly, the car accelerated, catching her by surprise she went through the intersection and was narrowly missed by two oncoming cars. She told me later that it happened a second time on the freeway (she was on her way home) but was not in immediate danger when it occurred. We have traveled these streets several times. Had just left the restaurant where we had lunch. . . . Was riding my bicycle home and watched her go through the intersection. . . . Very scary!! note: the throttle positioner was replaced on this vehicle a couple months ago. It had failed to 5mph. Villa Ford in orange CA did the repair. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

70 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2014

During normal driving conditions and speed, the car just stopped being responsive to the acceleration pedal without warning, the maintenance wrench light came on, and the car started slowing down. I was able to turn on the hazard lights and pull over to a safe location, while cars were pulling up behind me very quickly. As the car was left idling it became very rough, like the car was missing. To correct the problem, I had to turn off the car, wait thirty seconds to a minute and start the car again. The car started a little rough but returned to normal operation. The maintenance wrench light was not illuminated and no other warning lights illuminated. This has happened twice so far about a month apart. The first time this happened the vehicle was less than three years old and only had 23,214 miles on it. Luckily both times it happened on a local street and not on a highway. I consider this a safety and reliability problem. You have no idea when your car is going to just stop accelerating as you are driving.
