2011 Ford Fusion. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body customer satisfaction program recall notice.
In January, 2014 I received a letter from Ford indicating contamination on the internal motor contacts of the throttle body may occur, resulting in intermittent electrical connectivity. Engine power and vehicle speed would be reduced. Because of this potential problem, Ford is offering to extend the warranty on the throttle body to ten years. I believe Ford should issue a recall for the car and fix the potential problem now before it occurs and causes a safety problem. Any assistance you could provide in having Ford issue a recall would be appreciated. Thank you.
2011 Ford Fusion lost power and stalled and found out that the electrical throttle body needed to be replaced for a cost of 500. 94 by a mechanic because it is not covered by Ford even thought there are many complaints about this bad part in the Fusions. There should be a recall on this and/or reimbursement for getting it fixed. Only had the car 6 months with less than 28k miles on it.
I was driving ± 40 - 45 mph and suddenly I lost acceleration and the car stalled. It seemed to have fell out of gear as the car did not 'die', there was no longer any response in the gas pedal. I utilized what remaining speed I had to navigate to a safe place to pull off the road. I turned off the car and turned it on again and could drive again. This happened 2 more times on the way home (total distance from first failure to 3rd failure was less than 2 miles). Each time the car is shut off and restarted the 'wrench' / check engine line does not return. I had it towed to Ford dealership today, however after reading the countless experiences of the same exact ordeal, I felt it necessary to capture this incident here. Car went into limp mode. Lost almost all power. Will move on flat road with limited rpm about 1000. No power and car shakes while moving. This repeat of what happen year back while driving at 40 mph - lost power. At that time dealer change throttle body to correct the problem. In less that year I see same systems and car is back to dealer.
In the beginning of December while driving my friends home my Fusion suddenly jolted and then I lost the ability to accelerate. The service wrench displayed and I had to come to a complete stop in a neighborhood. A few weeks later while driving home the same thing happened and I had to pull over to turn my car off and then on again, which seems to be the only way it will allow me to drive. Fast forward to January and I began having troubles again. This time I was on the highway and my car jolted and lost the ability to accelerate. This was a major safety issue because the highway I drive on is under construction and has no shoulder. Imagine if it would have been a busy night and I had to come to a complete stop. This has happened a total of 8 times. Seems like a huge safety issue. I bought this car used with 34,000 miles on it and have to drive a lot for work.
Traveling 70 mph on the highway and lost power with no warning. Coasted to a stop with engine at a rough idle only. Accelerator pedal had no effect on engine rpm. Had vehicle towed the my Ford dealership which diagnosed a failed "drive by wire" throttle body. I only have 37,400 miles on the car and yes 1,400 past the warranty (convenient $ for Ford). This failed component at 70 mph on the highway caused several moments of anxiety until I got safely off the road.
I was driving on the freeway when suddenly the vehicle lost speed completely and the wrench light turned on. I was fortunate enough to be driving fast enough and in the right lane and so was able to exit the freeway but the vehicle was extremely slow, not even 1mph. It did begin to shake while slowing down. This is an extremely dangerous malfunction. Had I been in the left lane it would have been impossible to remove myself off the freeway safely. This is an issue that must be addressed.
Driving on freeway the car went limp and lost speed without responding to gas pedal. The wrench light came on at the time it happened. This happened twice, first time yesterday on the freeway, second time today while on freeway going to work. Once I was able to pull over and stop the engine, it car started up again and ran.
While pulling into a parking space the and depressing the brake vehicle suddenly jolted forward crashing into a post. The check engine light came on indicating there was a problem. We have reported to Ford on multiple occasions that the car surges when coming to a stop. We have been informed that they are unable to do anything without an error code. After the insurance company repaired the car we drove it to Ford. Unfortunately we were told that the error code will clear after driving a "complete cycle" or "running a vehicle health report". Both were completed and Ford repair tech's say this is a known issue but without a code they can not do anything about it. I own 2 Ford 2011 Fusions. The other car had an issue where it would frequently stall or go "limp" as Ford calls it. Much like the surges we have experienced with this vehicle, I had numerous occasions this occurred without any check engine light. Finally it went "limp" getting onto the highway and the check engine light came on. I brought it into Ford a few days later. The light was off but they were able to recover the code. I believe there is a major issue with the computerize throttle control in these vehicles and a recall is in order. We are lucky that the driver did not get injured. The airbag did no deploy even though there was substantial damage to the front end. The damage was caused by a post that cut through the bumper and damaged up to the radiator. As part of the research done I believe a detailed analysis of how the error codes are stored should be done. If the cars computer can clear errors there is limited evidence/documentation of problems. This appears to me as a "feature" to eliminate any trace of an issue.
I was driving on the highway at about 65mph, I began to exit and came down to 40. Once I started to slow down I felt the car tug, it was odd because it had never done that before but I finished exiting and tried to pick up speed again but couldn't. The rpm went down, wrench signal came out on dash, I pushed on the gas and nothing, it did not have anymore power. Luckily there were many businesses to my right to where I was able to park safely, if I was still on the highway while this happened I could have easily been rear ended or worse because the car slowed on its own and I was unable to control the gas. As I pulled over the car began to shake, I turned it off quickly and called for help. A relative came to my aid to check it out but we couldn't find anything visible, we cautiously turned the vehicle back on and the wrench signal turned off, no more shaking, it was odd that it just completely lost power a few minutes prior and now it was back to normal. We drove it around the parking lot to test it, didn't want to leave it behind due to the area and possibility of theft, also could not afford a wrecker to pick it up. I ended up heading back home with my relative behind me. It was very uncomfortable, I'm so glad it was myself and not my wife and kids as this is her vehicle. I know they are numerous knows issues on the throttle body with this vehicle. It is sad that it has not been recalled yet, please take a stand and do not wait until somebody is seriously injured or worse.
While driving, vehicle suddenly lost power. Rpms dropped and vehicle slowed to only a few mile per hour. Vehicle would not accelerate. Vehicle had to be towed to dealership, and I was informed it was a throttle body issue. I was informed this is a common issue, and there might be a recall. If this had occurred on the freeway, it could has been disastrous.
Driving at 45 mph, when car lost power and yellow wrench warning light came on. Coasted into parking lot with accelerator not responding. Turned car off, restarted it and ok. Took to Ford dealer and was charged over $500 to replace the throttle box. Told not in warranty but saw many complaints online for this part in Fusions and escapes.
My wife was driving 65 mph on a very busy los angeles area freeway around 4:45 in the afternoon when her vehicle came to a grinding halt. The car went from 65 mph to a complete stop in about 30 yards! she said all she heard was a loud grinding sound and the screeching of the tires. Luckily, the six vehicles behind her were able to stop, avoiding a chain reaction accident. The car has been at the dealership since November 4, 2013 when the incident happened. When I spoke to the technician, he mentioned that the transmission "disintegrated" internally and the only two options we had were to rebuild the transmission part by part, or order a whole new transmission. The vehicle is not even three years old! this was not the first time this happened. On October 2, 2013, she was about to enter the same busy freeway and the vehicle came to a stand-still at the intersection. None of the gears worked. After turning the vehicle on-and-off a few times and shifting the gear stick back-and-forth, the vehicle once again was able to move. Can you please look into this issue as I am greatly concerned for the safety of my family now that this incident put my wife's life in danger? god forbid this happen again in front of a fully loaded semi or other high profile vehicle that would not be able to stop in time. Do you recall the Ford explorer rollover mishaps?.
We were going down a major roadway at about 45 mph when the car just decelerated to about 1 mph. It took us awhile to get over 2 lanes of heavy traffic to the side of road where we stopped the car. The wrench light came on. With it still running we popped open hood and car appeared to be running just fine. We could not get the rpm's to go up at all. We turned off car completely, and the wrench light went off and car drove normal. 2 hrs later the car did the exact same thing and we pulled over and started it up again and got home. We believe it has to do with the electronic throttle body, bc other complaints are exactly as ours with this year, make, and model of car.
I was on my way to work yesterday morning (appx 7:30am so it was dark out) and I was slowing down with traffic (took pressure off the gas pedal) while crossing a bridge and when I went to accelerate again the car stopped moving and the wrench light lit up on the dashboard. My car was still running, but I had the gas pedal to the floor and the car would not move. When I realized I wasn't moving I hit the hazard button and braced myself for impact as cars were swerving around both sides of me. I put the car in park, shut it off, and tried to re-start it. It did not start right away, but when it did I revved the engine, put the car in gear and pulled off the road. I restarted the car again and proceeded to work. I learned that this is a common issue for this particular vehicle, yet it is not a recall issue at this point in time. Based on my experience yesterday, it seems negligent that this particular issue has not yet warranted an action for a recall. I was fortunate that I reacted quickly and turned on the hazards and was not struck by another vehicle, especially being on a bridge over a body of water.
I was driving down the street when my idle and rpm went down and I kept pressing on the gas pedal but the car would not accelerate (warning wrench symbol appeared). I was barely able to pull out of traffic and I nearly got hit in the rear by a tractor trailer. I turned off the car and got out my manual which said something about the throttle body. I turned on the car and everything was fine so I took the back road home (nitetime) and went about 10 miles and parked in front of my home. Went out in the morning (sundayoctober 20) and was going to drive it to the dealer to leave overnite, got a mile from my home and the same thing happened, called a tow truck and had it towed to the dealer.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact was driving 35 mph when vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 9000.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 75 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power and the mil warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000. Updated 02/11/2014 the throttle body was replaced. Updated 02/11/14.
While driving at all times, the vehicle would start to surge and buck then loose power. It never completely died but when I pulled over it ran terrible and would not accelerate. I turned it off for a few seconds and restarted it. It would run for a while, good, then the problem would reoccur. The engine light came on, I had the code checked. The result was a faulty throttle body or sort in the throttle body module.
Traveling at a steady speed and the engine cut out. Not completely but had no acceleration control. Have read on-line that this is called "limp" mode. Was able to pull safely off the road and then restarted the car after which the vehicle operated ok. This has happened 3 times in the last week. Took car to dealer who replaced the throttle body at no charge since the vehicle was still under warranty. Although I was lucky enough to avoid an accident or injury, I could see this being a serious safety issue for a driver on the expressway or pulling in to heavy traffic.
This issue is a big safety concern!! I have seen many statements online about the throttle body issue and their should be a recall!! I personally have had to have my car towed twice within a 2 week period because of this issue. Every time my car broke down it was the same thing. I was going along fine and then the car all of a sudden dies, chugs, I drift to the side of the road so I don't get hit and then the engine light comes on with the wrench tool! how scary and unsafe! I am just so glad I wasn't in an intersection or hit by another car because my Ford Fusion decided to die out of no where! I have had to go through two tows, days of waiting for my car to get fixed and my warranty deciding they aren't going to cover my cost!! unbelievable!!! Ford needs to take some action now! many people from what I have seen are going through the same thing and something needs to change. This issue shouldn't be on the customers shoulder and Ford needs to take responsibility before someone is seriously injured from an issue their cars are making. Please do something about this!.
I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden the car seemed to start shutting down. I lost speed and could not accelerate even thought I was pressing the accelerator pedal. The whole car started to shake and vibrate violently making a sputtering noise. I was able to brake, slow down and stop to pull off onto the shoulder of the highway. The car would not stop shuddering until I turned the engine off. I waited 10 seconds, turned the engine back on and the car drove normally again. This happened twice more, one at 30 mph and one at 60 mph again on the highway. Then we took it to have the throttle body replaced.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle began to shake violently and stalled without warning. The check engine warning light illuminated after the vehicle had stalled. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the throttle body. The vehicle was repaired. The throttle body was replaced. The failure and current mileage was 78,200.
This has happened multiple times varying from accelerating from a stop to highway speeds of 55+ mph. 2011 Ford Fusion sel suddenly loses all power and wrench icon illuminates and no acceleration happens at all. The engine remains at idle with fluctuations . Had to cross multiple lanes and was almost ran into by cars going a lot faster than me while I was movingto the emergency lane. Once car is turned off and restarted the problem will go away. After much research and the one time it showed a check engine light I ran the codes and it all was pointing to a defective throttle body. I noticed that there are a lot of complaints with this aspect on this car and just hope someone doesn't have to get killed on the road.
Vehicle started to have problems around 83,000 miles. My daughter would just be driving along and suddenly the car would just stop accelerating and go to idle. She would have to coast to the side of the road to get out of traffic. She was able to turn the car off and start it again and clear the problem. It would go a couple of weeks without incident until all of the sudden would happen again. On most occasions, the yellow "wrench" light would come on as well. We first assumed it was bad gas or the fuel pump, but after researching discovered a lot of complaints with the exact symptoms that pointed to a faulty throttle body. I decided to submit a complaint after last night her car once again stopped accelerating on a bridge with a police officer behind her whom proceeded to pull her over. Fortunately, the officer was understanding to the situation. It is very unsettling to have your inexperienced 17 year daughter on the highway with a vehicle that operates in this capacity. Ford has been manufacturing cars for how many years and this is still the best they can do? to be driving down the highway at 60 mph and your car just transfer to idle speed. Ridiculous!.
While traveling along a 2 lane route, at approximately 55 mph, the power in the car just died. The throttle would not propel the vehicle, there was no accelaration available and luckily I was able to shift the vehicle away from congested traffic. The wrench lights were flashing, the car sputtered while this started or occurred but when I pressed the throttle the car did not respond at all and the car came to a stop. I attempted to press the gas several times but again the car did not respond and was dead (the car was still on just it would not move). I then turned the car off, waited a few moments, then tried to start it again, it sputtered but started about 20-30 seconds into my attempt. Once I started it, I engaged the throttle while in park and it responded, I then put the car in drive and it drove normally for the remaining 10 minutes of my drive.
Driving down a major highway at approximately 75mph. Suddenly lost power and engine went to idle. Coasted up an exit ramp and fortunately made it to the top and was able to coast down to a safe locations to stop. If I had not made it to the crest of the ramp, the ramp was such that I was around a blind corner with no shoulder and would have very likely been hit if another car exited. The car was towed to a repair shop and I am being told it is a faulty throttle body assembly which is occuring in very many Ford Fusions around the country.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the engine fluttered, causing the vehicle to stall. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
Was driving on a local road, speed limit was 35mph, I was slowing down to stop at a red light then it turned green so I accelerated on the gas and then the vehicle started to lose power and and did not want to go and started acting like it was going to stall, so I pulled over parked and turned the vehicle off and then waited a few minutes and turn the car back on and the car seemed fine and I was able to drive again, this has happened at least 3 times in since then and I was told it was the throttle body that needed to be replaced, I am going to replaced it and hopefully it will do the trick. I heard that this is also a problem with other Ford cars and is currently under investigation for a recall, I hope this letter helps with getting a recall submitted.
My wife was driving and I was her passenger on miller park highway on the 18th when all of a sudden the car jerks forward on us, it starts sputtering like it was going to choke out, my wife then tried to get on the should when she noticed that the cars accelerator went all the way to the floor without any response from the car. Traffic was flying by us as the cars engine brake continued to slow us way way down. We were able to use the brakes. My wife finally got over to the side, turned on her hazards and turn off the car. We both sat on the side off roadway and I had to calm down my wife due to the fact hat she thought she was going to be in an accident. After a few minutes we turned on the car and the "wrentch" alert re-set itself and we were able to drive. My wife and I used to feel safe in our Ford Fusion, but unfortunately now we don't have any safe feelings after everything that our car has gone through ( blew out engine due to failed bearings, the trans slips all the time on us, etc etc ). We both truely loved this car, but now. . . . . .
My wife and daughter was traveling down a busy highway when the vehicle went into limp mode. They were almost hit by another vehicle. This is definitely a safety hazard.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated without manual force with the illumination of the maintenance warning light. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the throttle body needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Increased rpm, then vehicle stalled on road giving transmission indicator. Shifting delay, and stalling. Reported to have internal problems with suggestion of transmission rebuild. Vehicle has less than 100,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle lost power as the transmission warning light illuminated. The contact coasted to the side of the road to shut off and restart the vehicle, as it resumed normal function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
