Started my car (2013 Ford Fusion 37,691 miles) yesterday morning and had a "power steering assist fault" message on my display. . Power steering was completely gone. Luckily I was still in my driveway and not on the road when this happened. I've had no problems previously with power steering. Apparently there was a recall on 2013 Fusions for power steering failures. I called Ford and they told me that recall was VIN specific, and my vehicle was not affected. I found a lot of complaints online about this same issue on low mileage 2013 Fusions that were not covered by the recall. Obviously they did not identify all of the affected vehicles.

6 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2019

I was merging on to the interstate at highway speeds when I got a chime and alert on my dash board stating "power steering assist failure". When this happened, my power steering failed and it was near impossible to turn my vehicle. I managed to fight my vehicle off of the highway onto the shoulder. Upon restarting my vehicle the message went away and I regained power steering. After researching, there is a recall out for this power steering issue, on the exact same year make and model of my vehicle, however Ford is trying to claim my vehicle isn't covered by it. It is obvious they have missed my VIN number along with many others, as this is not a coincidence. This is dangerous, and could have killed me and my family. I do not feel safe, and want my vehicle repaired of this recall.

7 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

To whom it may concern; I'm writing today to share with you an issue we are having with our 2013 Ford Fusion. We were driving down the road when the power steering abruptly failed. Luckily, we did not have an accident. We purchased and have had all of our service done through the dealership. We purchased the vehicle in 2016 with 38,233 miles on it. We had the car towed to the service department at faith's Ford in brattleboro vermont on Monday the 26th for a power steering assist fault. On Tuesday, we received a call from brad ryea the service manager, and he informed us that the electric power steering rack has had a premature failure and that the replacement would cost $1900. 00. We have contacted the owner of faiths Ford and not received a response. After doing some research we found that there was a recall on 2012 Fusions for the steering rack, but our vehicle was not included in the recall even though it was built at the same plant, during the same time period, as the recall originated from (15s18) in hermosillo mexico. Our vehicle, VIN number 3fa6p0g77dr166584, had 69,520 miles on it when it failed. We are still making payments on it with over $6000. 00 left to the loan and we cannot afford to spend that amount. It was suggested that we contact Ford corporate office about the issue which we did, however they maintain that our car was not part of the recall and there is nothing that they can do. They told us to take it to the dealership for a diagnosis, even though we had explained that we had already done that very thing. They suggested we contact the NHTSA and file a complaint. How many other cars are out there that have this same issue but are not part of the recall. if tammy had been driving, she would not have been able to steer it. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide us with this situation. Sincerely, patrick and tammy mace.

15 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2018

The engine issue:vehicle intermittently stalls while backing, and driving. The electrical throttle body was subject to a Ford customer satisfaction program 13n03, that program has now expired, and any vehicles with the now malfunctioning throttle body will receive no warranty, or compensation for repair costs. When the vehicle stalls while driving, especially at highway speeds, this presents an extremely dangerous situation. The steering issue: two recalls were issued from Ford regarding this issue. Ford 13s06, NHTSA 13v232000 Ford 15s14, NHTSA 15v250000 our vehicle wa not subject to the first recall, but was subject to the second. The recall work was performed by the original owner on may 15, 2015, the vehicle had approximately 30,000 miles at that time. The dealer inspected the steering gear motor for mounting bolt corrosion. The bolts were apparently found to all be intact, and a simple anti rust wax was applied to the bolts. Per Fords directive, if any of the mounting bolts were missing/broken, a completely new steering gear assembly was to be installed. We purchased the car in the summer of 2017, with 55,500 miles on it. At just over 60,000 miles, the power steering failed while driving. This is my 16 year old daughters car, and all these mechanical issues have occurred when she is behind the wheel. The intermittent stalling, and most recently the complete loss of power steering thankfully did not result in accident or injury. Fortunately she was driving in a 30 mph zone when the steering failed, and was able to allow the car to pull to the side of the road. She would have not been physically able to turn the vehicle, under other circumstances. Our local Ford dealer advised that Ford would not assist in the steering repair. A subsequent follow up with Ford directly verified same. Both of these issues should be subject to a safety recall.

20 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2017

My vehicle has been diagnosed with a complete power steering gear failure, just outside bumper to bumper warranty. My car has 33,000 miles. I have done research online and noticed Ford has pending lawsuits for this issue and many complaints and decided to hide the issue they knew about and put the customer on the hook for the $1900 repair cost which is ridiculous. This could have had deadly consequences for me as the power steering failure came on while going at freeway speed. Luckily it had just enough to get me off the freeway or I would have most likely been involved in a crash as I had no steering. I have owned multiple Fords with 190,000 miles and never had issues with the old design. The new electronic system obviously has major design flaws and issues based on many complaints and lawsuits just by searching this online and Ford has shrugged of the issue as if it was non existent. Now I am worried this is going to occur again and is a major safety concern of mine if I lose control of the vehicle due to a design flaw and flawed overall steering gear. When Ford is supposed to be making design improvements, they are backtracking in it as my old Ford vehicles have performed better than this new one.

23 Power Steering Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2016

While operating my vehicle through a puddle of water, power steering would shut down. There was no warning of the power steering failure as it abruptly shut down making it difficult to control vehicle, especially when turning. Upon restarting vehicle, power steering would function properly until vehicle passed through another puddle of water.
