"steering assist fault service required" I have a 2013 Ford Fusion and this light came on. I have lost any and all power to my steering. I can still drive it, but it is very hard to turn the wheel in any direction unless I give it gas. I called Ford to see if this was under warranty, but they told me that they needed to look at it before they can tell if there were any recalls. They also charged me $150 and then proceeded to tell me that it needed $4396. Half of that amount was to replace the rack & pinion. They never even told me if there were other recalls. After doing extensive research on the internet, I have seen many complaints about the "steering assist fault". I am 20 years old and I am in the navy stationed in norfolk, va. I bought the car in michigan so it has seen winters and salt from the roads. Is the Ford dealership that I took my car to trying to get out of taking care of the recall? I called my mother in laws mechanic and he told me that he could get all the parts for me himself for less then $800. But I have a $4300 bill?? I am on military pay, I don't have that kind of money!.

3 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

I am writing today to share with you an issue we are having with our 2013 Ford Fusion. We were driving down the road during the rain. When the power steering abruptly failed. Luckily, we did not have an accident. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was 7 months ago and we had to replace the rack and pinion both times. There obiviously is a problem with them and I feel something should be done before somone is seriously hurt because of this issue. After doing some research I found that there was a recall on 2012 Fusions for the steering rack, but our vehicle was not included in the recall even though it was built at the same plant, during the same time period, as the recall originated from in hermosillo mexico. I sure hope something can be done to stop everyone from having this problem.

4 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

While driving at 70mph on a crowded highway, the electronic power steering went out on my 2013 Ford Fusion with the error message of "steering loss stop safely", there was no early warning. The message was freighting as I was then afraid to turn the wheel as it said steering loss, not "power steering loss". I pulled over and figured it was power steering and nursed it to a safe place. If I had been turning into a crowded intersection I would have wrecked. According to the diagnosis I need to replace the entire electronic rack and pinion assembly. This was a similar issue with NHTSA campaign number: 15v340000 for the 2012 Ford Fusion. I contacted Ford and they said its not the same issue.

6 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2019

Takata recall when I turn on my car the warning message said "power steering service now. " when I try to get out of the parking lot of the store. Had to call a tow to get it to a shop. Since Ford was all booked up and dont have an opening till 3-4 weeks later so I took it to a shop that would take a look at it the next day. The shop told me that my rack and pinion was not working. They said was the car in any accident or went into any potholes I told them no. Because I mainly drive on the highway which has no potholes. The shop told me to get a new rack and pinion it would cost me $1000 or get a rebuilt one for $600. So I went for the cheaper option because I don't have that kind of money for a new one. Right now I'm just waiting for the car to be fixed. The car only has 68000+ miles and its already breaking down. If the car of that year has a recall get the recall for all of the cars of that year not just some.

7 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2018

The rack and pinion on my 2013 Ford Fusion has gone out with 53,000 miles on my car through no user fault. I first noticed the noises when turning the car on and pulling out of a parking spot. Without warning the stearing started making grinding noises (like what a car makes when the power stearing is going out) and would the wheel would periodically catch (this is within two days of the noises starting) when I would turn. Other than these symptoms there are no other signs of steering failure. I could have been driving down the road and locked up without notice. Ford had a recall on the rack and pinion on my model, but when the dealership ran my VIN, it is not included in the recall as the parts must have manufactured at another factor. Considering the low mileage on my car and maintence routinely performed this is unacceptable. Through research I have seen this happen on multiple Ford Fusions on 2011+. Thankfully mine did not fail while on the road like others. This is a safety issue and Ford needs to make this right. A mechanic was thankfully able to locate the issue before I got into a serious accident due to steering failure.

8 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Our mechanic says the vehicle has a deficiency in the rack and pinion. Therefore making it unsafe to drive without costly repairs. After research I have found that this is very common for the Ford Fusion and most of them are under recall. However we seem to have the one Fusion our of millions that is not under recall.

9 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. While driving various speeds, the power steering and transmission failed. Colley Ford (1945 auto centre drive, glendora, California 91741, (909) 592-4131) was made aware of the failure and replaced the battery, but the failure recurred. On more than one occasion, the transmission slipped (downshifted/upshifted) out of gear. The same dealer diagnosed that the rack and pinion was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.

11 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2016

2013 Ford Fusion was purchased certified preowned by an independent dealership called carsense(www. Carsense. Com) in pennsylvania in March 2015 with 8k miles on it. Three year 36k mile warranty expired in February 2016. The car at time of power-steering failure was sitting in a private covered parking garage with 25k miles on it. The car is only used for leisure driving and is well maintained. After this happened I had it towed to a independent car service shop who was honest enough to call a Ford dealership whose representative eluded the Ford may take the corrective actions on this, after a $150 tow to this dealer shop the Ford dealer department denied ever having claimed they would help and refused to help in any way. The Ford dealers rational: 1) the car was purchased from an independent dealer 2) warranty was expired 3) they required a $120 examination fee, even though the independent dealer had already done this. When all was said an done the electronic power steering rack and pinion assembly had to be completely replaced totaling $2106. 69. This unplanned failure(right after the warranty expires) seems to be very common with Ford and I am very disappointed with their quality. Please help https://www. Consumeraffairs. 13 Steering Rack And Pinion problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2015

While driving the car in a commercial are the wheel stopped steering. I could not move the wheel left or right and got stuck in an intersection. A police officer came and sat with me while we waited for a tow truck. The car was towed to the Ford dealership and was looked at when they opened after the weekend. They put in a request to Ford to allow the piece to be replaced under current recalls related to the steering. Apparently the rack and pinion can just break after two years of driving. Since the bumper to bumper coverage was up they said it would have to be paid for by the customer. A car should not be allowed to fall apart after 59,000 miles if it is kept in very good condition. If I had been injured or someone else has been, this would be a very different conversation. The pieces they need to replace and including the labor round up to $2,000.
