3 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2017

I was driving down a city street and the steering column felt very loose. There was no accident or bump in the road, just an immediate loosening of the steering wheel. I was still able to drive and turn the vehicle so I took it to d patrick Ford in evansville, in. They told me that there was a recall on 3 bolts recall#15r01 which they replaced for free, but then charged me $848 to replace the steering column shaft as they said it was worn. I questioned the recall on the bolts being the cause of the steering column issue and they said no it had to have been from me using the steering wheel to get up out of the car. I do not ever recall using the steering wheel to get out of the car, it had 95,000 miles on it at the time and I was the second owner. The first owner put 18k miles on it and there was never a car accident.
