8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2024

On Saturday 10/5/24 I was attempting to park in my home parking spot and I placed the gear into park and the car shut off but the dash was giving a message that the car was still in drive. The car would not start and when I took my foot off of the brake the car nearly roll backwards into my neighbors car. We had to manually push the car back into the parking spot and turn on the parking brake so that it wouldn’t roll again. After doing some online searching I found that the part that failed had been recalled 3 times. The car was towed to a Ford dealership and was told that the recall was not showing up under the VIN and I would have to pay for a diagnostic fee over $300 plus parts and labor. The 3 recalls that I was able to locate is campaign/ NHTSA: 18s20/18v471, 19s16/19v362, and22s43/22v413. They are all for the shift cable brushing which is the exact part that broke on my car that caused it to stop.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2024

Purchased a used vehicle. At the time of purchase, there were no visible issues with the car. However, approximately 20 days later, a significant jerking and knocking problem related to the transmission appeared. Due to this issue, I stopped using the vehicle for a while. After consulting with a mechanic, I was informed that the transmission needs to be replaced. As of now, the car is struggling significantly to move. When I turn the ignition, the engine starts, but the vehicle does not move. If I turn the ignition off and restart it, it may move slightly after shaking the vehicle, but then it quickly stops and displays an error again. In this condition, the vehicle is not drivable. Unfortunately, the person I bought the car from refused to accept any responsibility or take the car back, despite my clear communication about the issue. Additionally, the following issues have also started to occur: the steering wheel becomes stiff suddenly. This resolves temporarily after turning the ignition off and on again. The brake pedal sometimes vibrates as if it’s losing pressure. I can clearly feel this under my foot while braking. Sensor malfunctions have also started to appear. The current condition of the vehicle poses serious safety and functionality concerns. Unfortunately, I am not financially able to cover any additional repair costs. Therefore, I would like to know if there is anything legally or technically that can be done regarding this matter. Otherwise, I will be forced to sell this vehicle as scrap. Thank you in advance for your support and assistance. Sincerely,.

While I was looking under the hood to see why it wasn't going, the car began to roll forward because I didn't realize it was not safely in park. The replacement for the recall failed and had disintegrated. Previous recall 18s20. 20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2024

Gear shifter was stuck in “park” and unable to move shifter and change gears. The car was actually in neutral. There were not warning signals the car was in neutral and could roll away. This puts the driver, passengers, pedestrians, and property at risk of injury/damage. Several recalls have been issued for 2016 Ford Fusions transmission bushings for this exact issue. When I contacted the Ford dealership they stated my VIN number was not impacted by the recall. I had the vehicle towed to my mechanic where the issue was identified as the transmission bushing, which they replaced. I then contacted Ford motor company who looked up my VIN and stated my vehicle did have a recall on the bushing and that the part was replaced in Dec 2019 (prior to me owning the car). The replacement part used to address the recall had the same issue as what it was original part was recalled for.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2024

Kept getting a misfire on cylinder 2 after Ford preformed a “recall” on the power train control system well the car now has coolant leaking into the number two cylinder causing it to shake violently and complete loss of power luckily my wife was able to pull safely off the roadway with my [xxx] son present before losing control and having an accident information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. My car has about 120k miles on it. The issue is that the coolant leakes into the cylinders. Tried replacing cylinders but problem came back. Dealership says the engine needs repair. The safety issue I had was I was driving on the hwy at about 60. The car suddenly went from 60 to 30. If a car had been behind me I would have been hurt. The manufacturer Ford will not pay. I have seen many of this exact same issues on your website. This is a safety issue. What can you do?.

Engine failure-yes, available for inspection the engine may fail at anytime leaving me and/or family stranded. Putting us in danger of being seriously injured or even killed. Yes, the dealer mechanic explained that the coolant was leaking into the head gasket/ block. He stated this was a known issue by Ford. He also stated that he would not drive the more than just home from the shop because otherwise we were at risk for stalling on the road. The vehicle had not been inspected by anyone. However, the state of virginia requires an annual inspection which was completed on 02/29/24. Check engine light came on, took to a mechanic he replaced plugs. Light was off and car running fine. 31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2023

In August 2023, brought my 2016 Ford Fusion se ecoboost with 77,000 miles on it to Ford dealership due to vehicle stalling on 3 different occasions within a 3 week period. Occurred at low speed while starting out. No warning lights came on. They performed 2 recall notices (one dealing with powertrain control module) and said a fuel sensor code came up and they replaced that. Also replaced auto transmission fluid though wasn't required requested by me. See attached paperwork #1 a little over month later, car stalled on highway at 60mph. Wrench warning light came on. My son was able to pullover over safely and restarted and seem to run fine again. Called for another appt. And Ford dealership took in on oct 3rd. During that time, car skipped (maybe between gears) a couple times around 40mph. I was told that torque converter and a couple other things were bad and it needed a new transmission. Also said that transmission fluid was bad (had metal filings in it) though when replaced a month earlier, no mention fluid had metal shavings in it. After researching online it appears the transmissions in these cars are notoriously faulty, but Ford has done nothing to address it. Believe there are current cases going on in michigan and California. Ford has apparently known these transmissions were bad but continued producing them effecting 2009 - 2017 Ford Fusions. Ford has offered no compensation to fix my transmission. I expected to have this car a long time, but this transmission issue has gone on for years with no recalls being issued. This is a safety issue and regardless of warranty, Ford should issue recall for transmission. They offer a band aid recommendation but not worth it. Dealer wants over $9000 to replace it. This car should easily see 200,000 miles if well kepted (and it has been) but not worth putting in a new transmission for over $9000 especially if it is prone to failure. Serious crash probability when car loses power on interstate. See item #2.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2023

The contact owns a 2016 Ford Fusion. Nhtsa campaign number: 23v162000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated while 55-60 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard, and a message indicating that the brake fluid was low was displayed. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the front passenger's side brake hose was leaking and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact later received a second notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v162000 (service brakes, hydraulic) advising that the part was available for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the front driver's side brake hose was replaced. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the brake lines were severely damaged. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond and made an abnormal loud sound. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 210,000.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2023

On friday8/04/2023, my wife backed out of the garage and down the driveway. As she did she wanted my help to reset the radio and applied the brakes and tried to put the Fusion in park. She turned off the ignition but the vehicle continued to roll back and she applied the parking brake to stop the car. When she tried to restart the car, the car would not turnover and the shifter was locked in park. I was not able to start the vehicle by jump starting the car. I called the Ford dealer and the service department man told me there was no recall on our Ford Fusion for the shifter bushing. When I checked the shifter cable, I could see that the cable was off the the transmission linkage post and the bushing seemed to be nearly totally missing. I put the cable back on the transmission linkage post and was able to shift the transmission and could star the car. I drove the car back into the garage as it is a level surface. There was no prior indication or warning that this problem may happen. I plan to go to the Ford dealer in the morning when they open as they are closed on the weekend. No injuries or property damage happened. I am unable to determine if any damage to the cars powertrain was sustained.
