Lug nuts are swollen and need replacement. Ford service department informed me that lug nuts are aluminum clad steel and over time swell and are unusable. Further informed that this is a common problem with Ford products, but Ford will not replace the lug nuts. Safety risk: consumer would be unable to remove & reuse factory original lug nuts if a tire replacement were necessary away from a Ford service facility. This condition is only diagnoseable when attempting to remove the lug nuts for service. I feel that any competent engineer could foresee that mixed metal will develop an electrolytic reaction and, further, that Ford willingly continues this practice.

We are the owners of a 2014 Ford Fusion model vehicle. We took this vehicle to a local Ford service dealer to have the tires rotated. Dealer service manager told us they could not do the tire rotate because the chrome plating on the wheel lug nuts had swollen and their wrench would not fit the lug nuts. The offered non oem replacement lugs nuts for our cost of $134. 95 plus tax. I believe this is a safety issue as we could be stranded along any roadway should we have a flat tire needing us to use our spare, and unable to remove the flat tire. Our vehicle has a total of about 60,813 miles shown on the odometer. Apparently this swollen lug nut issue is a known problem with this vehicle? can you help us resolve this?.

The power steering system is currently non-functional, resulting in significant difficulty in maneuvering the vehicle, particularly at low speeds. This poses a substantial safety risk not only to myself and my loved ones but also to other motorists, pedestrians, cyclists, and their pets. I am deeply concerned about the well-being of all individuals involved. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I have reached out to the dealership regarding the car's issues, providing them with the necessary information and VIN number. However, they have informed me that the repairs are not covered. Despite highlighting the safety implications of the problem, their response lacked concern or interest. It is worth noting that numerous online sources indicate that 2010 to 2012 Ford Fusions should undergo repairs and reprogramming as part of safety recalls. The dashboard warning light specifically indicates a need for steering service, yet Ford motor company has failed to take responsibility and address this widespread safety issue. This situation exemplifies the lack of priority Ford places on their customers' safety.

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while changing the driver's side front tire, three of the wheel studs fractured. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed and was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels). The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Took vehicle to Ford dealership for routine maintenance 5 June 2024. At end of servicing, service advisor reviewed findings of the multi-point inspection with me (attached), advising all wheel lug nuts (20) on the vehicle were "swollen" and needed to be replaced; failure to do so will result in being unable to remove any wheel in the event of an emergency, I. E. , flat tire, as the provided 19" lug nut wrench ( or any substitute 19" socket will not fit). Quoted price of $337. 60 for nuts ($447. 52 incl labor). I passed. Ordered one piece chrome lug nuts (20) for $40, and a $45 half size socket set (19. 5mm) online and changed them myself. Research on the issue reveals Ford is aware of this safety defect of two piece swelling lug nuts, yet refuses to recall affected vehicle or remedy the safety issue. All affected vehicles need to be recalled and corrected by Ford immediately, our lives/safety is at risk with this issue.

Multiple wheel studs have snapped in half, almost losing my wheel completely. This happened on all 4 wheels.

Took the car in to have a tire replaced and was told the swollen lug nuts prevent them from removing the tire. I had issues with lug nuts on another wheel but was able to get them off and replaced them. I shouldn't have to be paying $27 for lug nuts that are defective.

Took my car to the dealership for an oil change and tire rotation. The technician told me they cannot get the tires off to rotate them because the tire lug nuts were swollen. He asked me if I wanted to replace them. I agreed after he said that if I were to get a flat tire it would be hard to get it off to fix it. Basically, this issue became a safety one. I never had an issue with swollen lug nuts with previous cars I had own. Thank you for gathering these type of issues.

This vehicle has had multiple incidents in which the wheel studs on the front wheels will break off while driving. The last time this occurred, I noticed that 3 of the 5 wheel studs on the right-front wheel were broken off. When this was discovered, I contacted a Ford dealer and they said that there was no recall for this issue and didn't have any idea on how this had occured. I then contacted the last shop that had worked on the vehicle. They confirmed that the lug nuts were tightened using a torque wrench at the proper specifications. I have replaced several wheel studs and lug nuts on this vehicle in the past after they were found to be missing. The vehicle exhibits no vibration or warning signs while driving. This could have resulted in the wheel falling off while driving without warning.

This is an open recall that I'm sure has been stated many times, but the dealerships are not accepting the recall or granting it. The power steering aka. Steering assist system failed. Which is an ongoing issue with my vehicle model and year. It has caused me so many "almost" bad accidents and making it so I have lost an incredible amount of income due to my vehicle being down for repair and unsafe to drive and too expensive to fix. Especially when there is a recall about said thing. I need help.

All out motors in clio michigan knowingly sells extremely dangerous and unsafe vehicles, takes advantage of young woman with [xxx] son and takes every dollar of hers for a car that is far from driveable after only a c month or two and has been highly unsafe and unreliable and unpredictable since purchase, dealer refused to properly respond to situation and harassed the mechanic who inspected it after purchase when dealer was confronted about safety issues. Every time there was any miniscule imperfection in the road, I would lose control of steering and the car would move into other lanes, unable to immediately correct it. Missing lug nut due to stud snapping off, when trying to replace it, all studs also broke off. All bolts in front caliper and caliper brackets also broke off, along with rear caliper snapping 3 days after vehicle purchase. Car is not drivable after having it 3 months. Multiple times while driving on highway the car would malfunction and lose power or steering wheel would lock up. In for a normal oil change and tire rotation. The lug nuts were swollen and had to be broke off and replaced. With the same one that were on my car. I did not no Ford had a lug nut problem until then. To find out that some people had to have cars towed because of the tire not being able to come off. It is a saftey hazard. Ford know this and keeps making these lug nuts. Saying to replace every 50,000 miles at 160 dollars. This is crazy. I am sure there are many people who do not even know till it is too late. They should come up with a different design and replace them all. I travel 80 miles a day, and I rotate every 5,000 miles. I will be replacing them way too may times at this rate. This is unecessary.

Went to got a normal free oil change. They told us they could not do a tire rotation because the lug nuts were swollen. On a 2018 car the cheap 2 piece lug nut swollen so a normal 19mm socket could not fit over to took off the tire. No recall and no free fix at the anderson SC Ford dealer.

Took the Ford Fusion to the local Ford dealer to have the tires rotated. They said they could not remove the lug nuts as they have swelled. It is not possible to change a flat or rotate the tires.

I recently had to replace all of the lug nuts on this car due to swelling. Ford said they were all faulty. There were no warnings about the problem. It was noticed in a routine service appointment. I was informed the risk could be that I would not be able to remove them if I experienced a flat tire, and therefore be left stranded.

Stamford Ford in stamford CT said I need to replace frozen lug nuts due to corrosion. They said it is not covered and I have to absorb the cost of $ 300. All service on this vehicle have been performed by Ford service department. A recall should have been issued to correct this issue. This is a safety issue and Ford must fix this at their cost, not the customer's.

Went to have car serviced and was told lug nuts were swollen and it was a Ford defect, but had to pay over $120 to replace lug nuts in order to get my tires rotated.

I've had two issues with the power steering going out while driving, whic is very dangerous. The lug nuts also are fused on. I see recalls for these issues, although it says my VIN# is not included. I hardly think I have the exact issues, but somehow they aren't related to these recalls. The date I am providing is the most recent. There was another over the summer.

Ford dealership is refusing to preform the brake line recall 23s12, if I do not purchase new lug nuts saying that they are swollen, deformed. I called the corporates number and they told me they are aware of the issues with the lug nuts, but also said I would have to pay out of pocket for them to preform the brake line recall. I'm now worried about the condition of the lug nuts since the hold they wheel on as well as the brake line in the above mentioned recall which they are refusing to service without taking payment over a recall !!!.

Lug nuts are swollen and the factory lug wrench will not fit them. I already paid Ford $100 for the rear wheels, but now they recommend replacing the lugs on the front wheels too, for another $100.

When I took the car in for "the works" they did not rotate the tires as the 'lug nuts were swollen and would not come off. ' I percieve this as a safety issue if I have tire issues on the road. There was no incident- just a precautionary report.

I had to have all 20 lugnuts replaced. I had 3 different shops tell me that they are all swollen and needed to be replaced. Lugnuts shouldn't all be defective this quickly. I think Ford used cheap parts.

I am here to have safety recall(s) performed on my 2015 Ford Fusion. They cannot do the recall without changing defective (rusted lug nuts) at a cost of $160. 00. Rusted lug nuts seem to be an issue with this model car and I feel should be covered as part of the recall if the replacement of the lug nuts is required to perform the recall safety service.

The lug nuts had swollen and were not able to loose without damage. In order to rotate my tires the dealership had me pay for new lug nuts. If they the parts were that cheaply made at the factory, why am I asked to pay for them.

The lug nuts on the wheels swell nd tcannot be removed. This, in turn, causes an extreme danger when trying to change a flat tire on the side of the road.

I had a blowout on the highway and the tire tools supplied by Ford do not fit the lug nuts. The aaa driver that came also had a very hard time removing the lug nuts. I bought a lug nut socket set to be sure I had the correct tool to remove my wheels but nothing in the kit fits correctly. I had to beat a 19mm socket on to remove the lugs but that completely destroyed the lugs so that they need replaced. As for the recall on the shifter cable and brake line, I paid for both of those repairs when both parts failed before the recall notice was issued. Ford will not reimburse me for the repairs due to the mileage was over 150,000 at the time of repair.

Lug wrenches don't go on lugs. Can't remove lugs.

Swolen wheel lug nuts (all wheels) had to be replaced to rotate tires and check brakes properly during routine maintence at a cost of $321. 29 at lindsay Ford if wheaton, MD.

Went for oil change & vehicle checkup (tire rotation, brake inspection, etc) at dealership & advised lug nuts (2 piece lug nut composition) were swelling & recommended replacing with 1 piece lug nuts - cost me over $100 to replace. Should be recall - faulty parts. Less than 15,000 miles on car.

Lug nuts are swollen and lug nut wrench does not fit on lug nuts. Had to get special tool to remove flat tire and replace lug nuts.
