36 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/15/2023

The Ford dealer told me that my 2017 Ford Fusion has "swollen lug nuts" and must be replaced. They said that there is a potential for the lug nuts to fail and the wheel would fall off while driving. This will be at my own expense. My car has less than 22,000 miles on it and I feel that this a design/manufacturing issue on the part of Ford motor company.

37 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/07/2023

I took my car for tires to be rotated and balanced. The lug nuts are swollen because of the metal they're made from. I will have to pay for new lug nuts which are the exact same lug nuts as are on my car - and the same thing will happen again - and I'll have to pay again. This is outrageous. Ford should have a recall for all affected vehicles. We have a 1999 vehicle and the lug nuts are in excellent shape.

39 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/19/2023

I was driving on the freeway yesterday, about 70mph driving conditions were good, it was sunny and warm, and traffic was flowing regularly, and I felt as thought something gave way or loosened up because the car and steering ability were not in synch. I was then approaching a congested area and needed to slow down but the brakes did not brake as fast as they should of and I almost smashed right into the car in front of me. There felt like a disconnection between the brakes, the steering, and the entire car. I have keep my care well maintained and do not miss my regular maintenance appointments. I just had it smogged, with a change of oil and 80k inspection. The tires were checked and everything was ok. There were no indicator lights or alerts however, I do have a light that will not shut off and I was told subject to a recall. It's the front fog lights? or running lights? its the front lights not head lights but the ones the side. That light doesn't impact my driving ability. This is a very unsafe and frightening experience and I would like it investigated before someone really gets hurt.

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

The caps on the lug nuts fall off then the lug wrench does not fit, and the caps twist and now the dealer is charging me add to get then off, and usually I have to pay for some and it just happens again and again. Lug nuts are 15. 00 each.

43 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/06/2023

This is for a 2017 Ford Fusion platinum. Lug nuts have deformed and have to replaced at ~63,000miles. Why? shops do the regular rotation and balance. I had a 2013 Ford Fusion titanium and had the same results at different shops for the same rotation and balance. Why? my father's 1978 f100 had 430,000+ and were original. Quality is now poor. Les schwab looked and said they needed to be replaced now. We can't check the torques.

44 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 02/25/2023

Upon trying to stop at a stop sign my son was unable to stop in time and rolled into the roadway which caused a collision with another vehicle. He depressed the brakes and clearly heard a grinding noise and never felt the pumping feeling under his foot for the antilock breaks. He thought he couldnt stop due to ice on the roadway, but have since seen the brake recall on my vehicle. The accident caused the vehicle to become a total loss. The witnesses said my son stopped at the stop sing and pulled into the roadway in front of car going 50mph. That could not have happened by the angle of the car at the time of the accident. Had he stopped like the 'witnesses" said, he would have entered the roadway a couple second later and then become t-boned by the other car. He was hit on the rear quarterfinal coinciding with my sons story he could not stop. My son has held to his story that he tried to stop and the car would not stop. I have felt on occasion since Dec my brakes feeling a little off at times but never on a consistant basis to get it looked at. My vehicle had a small leakage in Dec which we could not locate and it never occurred since. We checked the brake fluid and all fluids routinely since. Never seen the leak since. I also put four brand new tires on my vehicle two days prior to the accident. It does appear in the photos after the accident there were new parts on the wheel in the area of the brakes. I only owned this vehicle for 9 months prior to this incident.

45 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/11/2023

Was told all 20 lug nuts were swollen and needed replacing. After paying $219. 80 and researching this I saw that numerous people were compiling about having to pay for something that Ford created and is a know major issue for. I then cam upon this site & form.

46 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

The stainless steel coverings on the wheel lug nuts swells up and bj's tire center in fairfax, va. Has a box full of the defective parts. If I had a needed tire repair on the highway, I would not have been able to change tire because lugs were swollen and mishapen and wrench would not fit. Koon's Ford in sterling, va. Was notified and I was given a contact number to Ford mfg. Ford refused me and are not standing by their product. I had taken vehicle in for tire rotation and balance on 1/5/2023 and ended up buying new lugs all around for 140. 00.

48 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/17/2022

I had a flat tire. When I went to get the lug nut wrench it was not there. Since this was the first time that I removed the spare tire and the lug nut wrench was not there it appears as though the car never came with one. I called aaa and they had to destroy the outer coating of the lug nut in order to remove it as it seemed to have swollen 1/2 size. I took the car to my service provider and he said that all of the lug nuts were the same and no wrench would fit them. I had to have all lug nuts replaced with ones the correct size and I had to buy a new lug wrench to make up for the one I never got. The total cost was $337. 02 which I would like Ford to compensate me for.

49 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/08/2022

At approximately 58,000 miles, Ford dealer told me the lug nuts were swollen and not safe and needed to be replaced. No warning signal prior to this event.

50 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/18/2022

Service department said that the Ford Fusion lug nuts are swelling and need to be replaced. Said they may be hard to get off or they could crack and break. I fill this should be a cost that Ford should pay or replace them for me. Not at my cost.

51 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/13/2022

My 2013 Ford Fusion experienced an electronic powered steering failure recently. It is my belief that this was due to an incorrect, incomplete, and ultimately unsafe repair to the affected system. From my research this model and year has experienced significant issues and failures of the "steering gearbox" even after the recall from manufacturer campaign number: 19s26. Failures of the steering gearbox leading to an abrupt failure of the power steering system in the vehicle is not only incredibly dangerous but subsequently an issue what was not fully resolved by the organization. This vehicle has many foundational safety concerns that are a result of cheap and incomplete repairs revealing weaknesses in sustainable practices and beliefs held by the organization. When the issue arose it was abrupt and without warning initially. The vehicle is very difficult to control even at higher speeds with the failure of the electronic power steering gear box as compared to a traditional fluid based power steering system. When I had the vehicle inspected on 11/15/2022 I inquired from the Ford dealership whether the work completed looked sufficient it was not answered. The employee also made note that this issue is "very common" and "very expensive to repair". As a result of this I am requesting that the NHTSA seriously review information and gather data corroborating information I have provided. I believe the Ford motor company needs to be held responsible for a full repair or provide assistance to those experiencing this issue to a part that if fixed properly would not be an issue under reasonable circumstance. Looking at the trends of this vehicle, its recalls, and its level of consistency of repair it has been extremely poor and unsafe. The most recent recall involving the seat belt has been "fixed" many times poorly resulting in another recall. This power steering gear box failure is build from the same clay and should be resolved through repair or repair based assistance.

52 Wheel problem of the 2018 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/13/2022

At a. Recent appointment at local Ford dealer, I was told that tires could not be rotated due to swollen lug nuts. I perceive that as a safety concern as in event of a flat out out on the road, I would be stranded. Dealer quoted a price of over $250 to replace. Seems to me that this should be Fords responsibility. I feel uneasy driving my Fusion now.

53 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/29/2022

Lug nut shattered and unable to remove the nut to safely replace.

54 Wheel problem of the 2020 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/20/2022

Constantly with this specific vehicle, especially with the lane assist. The vehicle continuously jerks either left or right even within the green parameters of the lane, especially when doing a slight turn on the highway. When it is raining the vehicle Smart as go offline an cannot read the lane or the vehicle in front of it. When I first purchased the vehicle after driving for less than a year I had to take the vehicle in because the engine was warped. Constantly when I’m the vehicle the apple car play system would either freeze or the screen would go black.

55 Wheel problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/06/2022

When needing to take the tires off, the socket that came with the vehicle spare tire would not fit on the lug nuts. Upon research we discovered this was a known problem that the factory lug nuts would swell, thus not being able to use the standard equipment provided with the vehicle. I want to replace these lug nuts, however I am not finding lug nuts that will hold the wheel cover onto the wheel.

56 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/03/2022

I took my Ford Fusion in for its 50000 mile maintenance. The tech was unable to remove the lug nuts because they were swollen due to the poor design by Ford. I had to replace all 20 lug nuts at a cost of $200. If I did not replace them I would be unable to change a flat tire if I were to have one.

57 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/26/2022

I went to get oil changed and tires rotated. Expected to just pay for that. However, was told my lug nuts were swollen and ended up having to get them replaced as a safety issue. I have never heard of this issue before. I only have 50,000 miles on my car. I am retired, an have fixed income. Therefore, the price of $120 plus tax put quite the dent in my grocery allowance. This should be a recall. And all that have experienced this should be reimbursed. I have been a Ford owner all my life, but next car will be asking more questions about the lug nuts. Can't afford to do this every 4 or 5 years.

58 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/22/2022

Lug nuts are swelling and tires will not come off.

59 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/30/2022

I have made 4 separate attempts to mount new tires. I researched the "swollen lug nut" issue and purchased 10 new lug nuts as well as a 18. 5mm x 19. 5mm flip socket for the shop to use. That has even failed and my new tires are still not installed. I have spent in excess of $85 for these lug nuts and flip socket.

60 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

The lug nuts on all the tries won't come off. It seems like the stainless steel cap is no longer connected to the actual lug nut making it impossible to get off with out ripping the cap off and then getting a socket on the lug nut. I need to change a tire out but am unable to unless I destroy the lug nut cap.

61 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/18/2022

I always have my tires rotated at every oil change. This particular time (6/18/2022) the service manager (steve) stated that I needed to replace my wheel nuts because of them swollen and he was afraid that if he takes off the wheels, they might not go back on or if I needed to remove the wheels on a roadside emergency that the wrench that comes with the car would not fit. He stipulated that this is happening more and more and it should be on a recall. We had to pay $9/nut (x20) to replace something that is "obviously" a Ford suppler issue and not the end user. Get this the program, get these recalled and get a better substitution.

62 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/14/2022

Lug nuts were impossible to remove as the wrench supplied by Ford would not engage the nut. We spent two hours on side of a busy highway at risk while several people tried to remove the nuts. Finally, the tech from towing service had to beat the wrench onto each nut, destroying the outer shell in each case. After two hours in the texas heat, spare was attached and we replaced all the nuts for $48 plus tax. Very alarming situation as we often travel on remote roads and areas.

63 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/07/2022

Swollen lug nuts. When attempting to get the wheels serviced, shops said they could not get the lugs off because they were corroding so a 19mm and a 20mm did not fit. There are other reports for this already.

64 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/04/2022

Was recently notified by my local Ford dealer that my lug nuts on my vehicle needs to be replaced due to swelling. My dealer advised that "wheel damage will happen" due to this swelling. It appears that this is a known issue by Ford who again has decided to put profits over customer safety. The dealer made is clear that this issue is a vehicle safety issue. I feel that a recall on these defective lug nuts should be ordered for the benefit of public safety. It funny this was not an issue until after my extended warranty expired.

65 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/28/2022

Swollen lug nuts and couldn’t get the drivers side front tire off at Ford dealership. I had to take my vehicle to discount tire for them to get the lug nut off and replace all lug nuts.

66 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 05/20/2022

Lug nuts swollen and were unable to be removed.

67 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/19/2022

Had to replace lug nuts, dealer said we’re swollen and may make changing tires a problem if not replaced.

68 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/05/2022

While driving I hit a piece of metal which caused my driver rear tire to go flat. When I got out to change to the tire I was unable to do so because the lug wrench would not fit the lug nuts. So I had to call roadside assists to change it. They said it is a common problem with Ford, some of them are one size and others are another.

69 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

I hit a very deep pit hole on the interstate causing a tire blowout on front driver side tire as well as a cracked rim on back drivers side. As I go to put the spare on I can't get the lug nuts off. The tool in the spare kit doesn't fit, resulting me to call a tow truck who couldn't get them off either. It took me 2 days to figure out the lug nuts were swollen and this was a common problem with Ford Fusions. My local Ford shop would not assist in the matter at all and still refuse to replace them. They should in fact replace them and also the cost of the damage caused by this. If the nuts were regular lug nuts I could have remedied the situation my self. No police or injuries were involved just lots of stress and money out of my pocket to fix it.

70 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/08/2022

The lug nuts on the wheels have "swelled" so that the wheels cannot be removed in an emergency for replacement. This problem is well known and was pointed out to me a a danger when I had my wheels rotated. The shiny metal covering the steel lug nut separates preventing the lug nut wrench from fitting and allowing for removal of the lug nut. 2017 Ford Fusion energy titanium.
