The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The contact stated that while shifted into gear, the gear shifter defaulted back to park(p). The contact stated that the shift system fault warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be reprogrammed and the actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module needed to be reprogrammed and actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that parts to do the repair was back ordered and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
