36 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/31/2017

I recently was traveling on the interstate late after work on interstate 10 at 60 mph when I was struck from behind at a high rate of speed which caused the car to spin out of control , hit a guard rail and thrown into onto oncoming traffic. As stated in police report. Both front and rear of the car sustained severe damage however none of the airbags deployed causing facial trauma seatbelts failed, as it did not hold my 100 lb body in place. Causing injury. From being thrown all over the car causing loss of conciousnous. Back driver side wheel and hub was torn off from impact and axle was broke. Car had 96 k miles and well maintained. And cared for. However this car has faulty airbags, seatbelts, among other issues that CA result in a human life!.

37 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/21/2017

The wheels are machined in a non-standard way on the bead surface and most replacement tires cannot be seated on the bead of the wheels. The oem wheels have machined slots in them near the bead seating area & the air leaks out these slots when you are trying to seat the bead to install the new tires. These wheels are 18" x 8" size and came on the fp6 appearance package with my vehicle from Ford. I spent 2 days at tire stores waiting for installation of new tires on my car. Several brands of tires were tried and most won't seat on the bead of these wheels. All of the tires tried are the stock oem size of 235/50r18. It appears that Ford choose to lighten the wheels by machining these slots in them, but the downside is that you cannot replace the tires since most brands won't seat on the bead when being installed. After trying several sets of tires, the tire store was finally able to get one installed, but it cost about twice what I planned to spend on the new tires.

42 Wheel problem of the 2017 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

I ordered and purchased this vehicle new 9/2016 from my Ford dealer list $48,470. This vehicle has from factory 20 inch wheels with non run flat tires. After having tire failure I learned there is no spare tire that came with the vehicle so I called the dealer and they said I needed to buy a spare donut spare tire which fits in trunk well. Unfortunately the donut spare tire from Ford does not fit on rear wheels of my vehicle with 20 inch wheels per Ford engineers in detroit. Per Ford dealer there is no fix for my problem because run flat tires do not exist in this size. My wife won't drive and I can not drive vehicle as intended and on trips due to this issue. I consider this a serious safety issue and manufacturers should not be allowed to sell a vehicle without providing a spare tire for the vehicles they build. A flat bed tow to get a new tire( when they can locate one) and a can of goop in truck is Fords solution. . . . . Unacceptable.

43 Wheel problem of the 2006 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/26/2017

Was driving down the road at 70 mph on tires that have less than 12,000 miles on them when I had one of the tires blow out on me. I have never had this problem on my car before. I'm glad I was able to sadly bring the car to a stop and didn't cause anymore damage than a bust tire.

46 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 12/24/2016

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 Ford Mustang. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v319000 (air bags) however, the part for the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the traction control light illuminated and the vehicle began to violently jerk from left to right. The contact pulled the vehicle over and turned the vehicle off. The contact restarted the vehicle and noticed that the traction control light was no longer illuminated indicating that when the vehicle was off the traction control system reactivated on its own. The contact proceeded to drive and when at a complete stop the tracktion control light illuminated again at the same time the contact began to accelerate the vehicle the right front wheel locked and the vehicle began to accelerate at high speeds on its own causing the vehicle to swing aggressively to the right lifting into the air flipping at the same time and landing on all four wheels with the wheel still locked and unable to be moved. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact recieved injuries to their right shoulder. Medical attention was not needed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer did not diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and has opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000. Parts distribution disconnect. Gl.

47 Wheel problem of the 2005 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/25/2016

Tire valve stem had a total and complete failure on the highway at top speed. Tires were correctly inflated but the valve stems failed where the rubber meets the wheel. This has happened 3 times in the last 9 months which destroyed the tire every time. I have lost over $600 for three tires because of these valve stems and luckily haven't been killed, yet.

48 Wheel problem of the 2016 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 08/24/2016

The vehicle has approximately 1000 miles on the odometer. In an effort to rectify squealing brakes, I checked each lug nut to ensure they were tightened to factory specification. All twenty (4 wheels with 5 lug nuts each) were only tightened to approximately 90ft-lbs of torque. Ford specifies in the owners manual that lug nuts be torqued to 150ft-lbs. I used two different styles of torque wrench to conduct my test. One type was used to loosen ten lug nuts and another was used to loosen the remaining ten. My intent was to rule out any gross error in torque readings. To my knowledge the wheels have never been removed from the vehicle, therefore I see three possibilities: the dealer removed the wheels for some reason and did not torque to specification or the lug nuts are loosening themselves evenly or they were not torqued to specification from the factory. I feel the most likely scenario is that they were not torqued to specification from the factory.

Continuous excessive road noise throughout cabin starting at ~10 mph until ~20 mph. Low frequency "woo woo" sound. Much more pronounced after driving a few miles. 55 Wheel problem of the 2007 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 05/13/2015

I was following my wife to the Jeep Dodge cherokee dealership to get her recall taking care of. On the way there at the off ramp of 575 and riverstone parkway I made a right turn to get off on the ramp to exit and I heard a loud thud and the motor accelerated very loud and odd sounding. I was unable to control the vehicle. The only thing I could do to keep from running into anyone was slam on the brakes when I did that the breaks gave a loud screech and was very slow to stop. I ended up hitting 3 cars on the left side none of the airbags deployed nor did any of the seatbelt lock so the only thing I had to stop me from hitting my head against the steering wheel was to put my hands out in front of me on the steering wheel. When the impact happen it was so fierce that my right hand gave out and was snatched of the steering wheel and I damaged my right arm on the steering wheel column. Still kind of hurts and I still have scars.

56 Wheel problem of the 2009 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

I pulled into my driveway after returning from the store. As I began to slow down to pull in the garage the car accelerated causing me to crash into the front of my garage. The brakes were locked and the car did not stop but continued to push forward. I have skid marks the whole way up my drive into my garage from the car being pushed forward by the front tires. . . . . I will be reporting this to Ford motor company as their was a class action lawsuit for Ford Mustangs 2005-2010 if purchased in select states, mine being florida, which was part of this lawsuit. (was reported in usatoday for 3/23/13) I never received any information from Ford regarding this. My car's front end and entire left driver side is destroyed as well as my garage. The accident caused my son's bike to come through my house.

57 Wheel problem of the 2015 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/26/2015

Ford has failed to make a spare wheel/tire available for the 2015 Mustang. It is not standard on all vehicles (a tire inflation kit is all it comes with) and the spare wheel/tire is on back order for all dealerships because supply is low and production is being prioritized over owner availability. Therefore, I am stuck without a spare wheel/tire. I have even tried to procure an aftermarket spare and 3 different tire stores have told me they do not have a compatible spare available. Ford is handling the availability of a spare wheel/tire as a shortage of an "accessory" as if it is a floor mat, rather than a safety critical part as a spare wheel/tire is.

58 Wheel problem of the 2014 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/18/2014

Since aprox 500 miles I have noticed a very consistant knock knock knock noise coming from the right side rear wheel area. Ford dealer looked and has said its a normal operating noise for the car per for engineers. I do not agree. Its a knock knock knock at low, parking lot speeds and can be heard driving straight or a little easier to hear when turning. This is a new car that has not been raced, abused or modifyed at all and its completely wrong for them to say this noise is normal.

59 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Mustang. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle veered to the left and the tire pressure warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the wheel alignment needed to be completed and the tires needed to be replaced. The tires were not replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.

60 Wheel problem of the 2008 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

We were sold a brand new 2008 Mustang gt500kr (shelby) June 15, 2014. This car was kept at the dealership in the show room and never sold until now. We were charged a $7 tire fee at the time of sale but a few weeks later it was refunded to us with no explanation. We recently took the car into a different dealership for a shifting issue when the technician and service advisor told us the rubber on the tires is getting hard and it is a safety issue to drive it. At the time of purchase it was never disclosed to us that the tires were old and we think the selling dealership was aware of the issue and that's why they refunded us the tire fee. We contacted Ford motor company and they refused to put new tires on our vehicle.

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at high speeds, the wheel stem valves would rupture and cause the tires to deflate. The contact stated that while driving approximately 140 mph on a racing track, the stem valve ruptured on two of the four tires, causing the tires to deflate. The contact indicated that the malfunction occurred on one front and one rear tire but was unable to indicate the position of the tires. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer and the stem valves were replaced. The contact indicated that in a separate incident, the stem valve on a rear tire rupture while traveling at high speeds over 120 mph. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 4000.

64 Wheel problem of the 2013 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 11/26/2013

2013-14 Ford Mustang shelby gt500s are shipped with stock goodyear eagle f1 supercar g:2 tires which, according to a goodyear product service bulletin from March 28, 2011 are known to crack in temperatures below 40f. The cracks appear in the sidewalls/tread and can cause the tire to separate while driving, causing a crash and serious injury and/or death. I called Ford today when I noticed that at least one of my rear tires had developed a crack (its in the 40s outside today; was high 30s overnight - though my car is stored inside in a 2 car garage, and therefore warmer). Ford customer service advised they were powerless to do anything and I needed to contact goodyear directly. Goodyear is aware of the issue (they issued the psb after all), and are willing to replace defective tires (on a prorated basis) - but they continue to sell the tire!. Ford has washed their hands of the issue completely and refuses to acknowledge the issue - stating they're not aware of goodyear's publically available psb (heard from both Ford customer service and local Ford dealer). Many, many owners of these cars have experienced the cracks and replaced tires at their own cost (usually switching to another brand). Ford needs to stop selling cars with these tires and goodyear need to stop putting life-threatening product on the market. I'm aware of at least 1 incident of a tire blowing mid-drive resulting in a 13/14 gt500 being totaled, and am happy to point the NHTSA to countless threads on enthusiast forum detailing the issue with pictures. . 65 Wheel problem of the 2007 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

In association with NHTSA action # pe08060, I am just reporting an incident. Even though the investigation is closed there are still defective valve stems out there. Just reporting this for your data. We bought an '07 Mustang last year. It was a one owner with very low miles and had never had the tires or stems replaced in it's lifetime apparently. So we have had to replace three valve stems because of the cracking and leaking, today the 4th one started leaking. Luckily my neighborhood tire shop does not charge very much to replace them if I take the wheel off myself and take it up there, but it would be nice to get back the money for the trouble. But, if it wasn't for Ford's low pressure warning and us being vigilant sticklers for vehicle maintenance, this could have been a problem. Just letting you know in case there are still "one owner" cars out there that haven't been driven much and are still put up in garages somewhere.

66 Wheel problem of the 2002 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 09/23/2012

We were going around a curve about 45 mph and heard a pop like something hard broke. Did not know what it was at the time. Went to the shop up the road and pulled over the pit and look under the car, after 10 or 15 min seen what looked like a crack on the back of one of the five spokes on the rear rim a buddy of ours said come up here and look its broke I could pull fishing line through it, went up and and talked about it. Just don't want anyone to get killed if it happens at the wrong time. No marks or any reason it should have broke. Do I need to let anyone look at this to see if there is a problem with them. Thanks surprised.

67 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang

Failure Date: 03/02/2012

Vehicle has no spare tire. I'm trying to piece together a spare tire kit for the 19" wheels that go with the v6 performance package. I'm getting wrong information from Ford about what is required. Being stuck without a spare can be a safety issue, but putting the wrong spare wheel/tire combo on the vehicle can create a hazardous situation.

68 Wheel problem of the 2012 Ford Mustang
