Engine problems of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Seven problems related to engine have been reported for the 1999 Ford Ranger. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

1. No events leading up to failure. Maintenance strictly adhered to. All TSB and factory service manuals followed. 2. Camshaft sycronizer on 1999 Ford Ranger 3. 0l. Engine seized up. 167810 miles. 3. Engine replacement was performed.

2 Engine problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2007

The metal tubes for the engine choke heater, rusted out right above the aluminum head. Was told that there is no way to fix the problem, except to replace the head with a new one. The head will cost at least $250. My truck is a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT with a 3. 0l. Was told the only way this tube would break was from a crash, or from rusting from the inside. I know my truck has never been in a crash, kind of odd that only the tube has rusted and not more engine parts. Anyone else have this problem.

3 Engine problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2004

Cracked engine head, truck had only 65,000 miles and was not driven hard. Heater still doesn't warm up as it should, even after manufactures repair.

4 Engine problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2003

While driving the vehicle at 45mph suddenly engine died, forcing the consumer to pull out of the road. Dealer notified.

5 Engine problem

Faulty drivetrain; also, a connecting rod from engine pertruded through oil pan while driving at approximately 65 mph, causing engine to sieze and blow.

6 Engine problem

A short circuit occurred within the cord on the engine block heater which caused the vehicle to nearly catch on fire. The cord burned and damages occurred to the grill area. Please give any further details.

7 Engine problem

Alternative fuel engine vehicle. Intermittently in warm climates vehicle will stallout and die without warning. Dealer and manufacturer have been notified.
