The frame rails at the rear of the vehicle where the shocks bolt up has completely cracked through the metal on passenger side & the driver side has completely rusted away and frame cracked.

3 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2018

I recently replaced rotted parts of the underside of my Ford range, spring shackles, schocks and schock mount brackets. I did this repair to make mu truck safer, after 3 weeks of driving with the new repairs the frame began to crack and is about to split in half. . . Not so safe. The body is in great shape, but I can't drive the truck with the frame in its current condition. Back road driving 3 days a week.

4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

I was driving my truck down a main road and there was a small pothole. It was only about an inch deep by about a foot and all of a sudden my truck started making very loud noises going down the road and almost seeming like the truck didn't want to go straight. I pulled over because I wanted to check it and here was a massive crack in the frame behind the shackle mount in the front of the wheel well. This was caused by the gas tank mount that the strap connects do holding dirt and moisture behind it and rotted out a hole in the frame. Also the gas tank mount rotted compleatly out and is no longer there on the drivers side the same place that the frame rotted out. This is a big defect by Ford as there is no way to clean it out and the frame will just rot even though the body of the truck is spotless and rust free because I wash the undercarriage every week as well as the whole truck. This is extremely unsafe because the moisture and dirt consistaintly eat away at the frame. Also it is bad enough that I possibly need to take the truck off the road even though the rest of the truck is perfect. It is very unsafe to drive and I can't believe Ford could have over looked this.

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

Was pulling lawn mower trailor on I-81 & car pulled up beside me, they were histericly telling me to pull over, that my bumper was coming off, along with trailer, mower & all. This could have resulted in many fatalities. The frame of my truck is completely rusted in 1/2 on driver side. Not far from it on passenger side. Gas tank strap rusted in 1/2. Needless to say, my Ford truck is undriveable. This is a great inconvenience. Please investigate, & recall my truck for new frame. Thank u very much. . . . Still a Ford man for now.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2015

Came to a slow stop on a downhill slope when driver's side frame rail broke from apparent rust through. Inspection of frame and suspension shows much rust deterioration even though this truck has been meticulously maintained and kept under a carport on a paved driveway. All mechanical s, exterior body and interior literally look like a new vehicle. Ford should do the right thing, as Toyota did, and replace this truck's frame or buy out this vehicle.

Exsesive rust throgh frame. Integrity failed.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2014

While my truck was sitting in the parking lot at work I came out for a brake and I noticed that the bed of the truck was sitting against the cab. This truck is washed and kept out of the weather and it seems strange that the frame is rotten before the body is. I know that the rocker panels and fender wheels normally rot out but they are still mint.

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

The rear leaf spring are rotting away.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

Was loading a washing machine in the bed of the truck, and heard a crack. I looked under the truck to see the left rear shock mount broken off the frame. Upon further inspection I found the frame had holes rusted through in numerous spots. The body is good shape. I wash the truck regularly, including the under side, so I don't know why it has rotted in spots. I am very unhappy about this, as I have older trucks that have not rusted, that see harsh use on our farm. This is my daily driver that is for personal use, and I loved this truck till I saw that.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

I have a 2000 Ranger and was told by a repair shop that is not safe to drive due to the rear shackles and leaf spring hangers being completely rotted off the frame. The whole rear frame is rotted also and barely holding the rear bumper on. I researched this problem and found that almost every Ranger like mine has this problem, both older and newer years. This issue is so bad that auto parts stores are keeping these parts in stock. These trucks are not safe and should be recalled especially in states which do not have annual inspections like mine, michigan.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

Bought truck for my son for 3,500 a month later frame rusted thru. Stopped him from driving it death trap ett auto sales gave me 1000 dollars back burned me for 2500 . Spings were coming off . Frame other side cracked. Sparetire rusting off. This vehicle should be crushed.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

Two-thousand Ford Ranger with the frame rotted out on rails and cross member. This truck has only 51,000 miles and will no longer pass inspection. The engine, body and interior is perfect. These trucks should be under a mandatory recall just like Toyota trucks.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

While using on ramp at appx 40mph heard loud bang and truck shifted appx 5ft into next lane thk god lane was vacent. Recovered and came to stop on sholder, noted rear spring schakel broke from frame, this truck came from PA. Now in az. Need to find doner to do frame swapp luckily should be able to find one in az. Or scrapp truck with only 58k box a actuall miles on it.

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2013

The frame on the truck is cracked badly behind the cab on the passenger side. There is not excessive rust to justify the cracked frame. The truck was in a minor accident over a year ago and was repaired completely. There was a complete inspection of the whole truck at that time and there was no frame damage. The truck is making a rattling sound behind the cab and we need to make a repair to fix this before continuing to drive it. Wondering if there is a recall on the 2000 Ford Ranger like the Toyota.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

Was driving vehicle on highway and hit a hole in road and left side of vehicle sank down frame had hole in side.

22 Suspension problem

Left rear spring shackle snapped from frame. Excessive frame rot in many areas. Vehicle most likely will not pass next state inspection.

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2012

While pulling into my driveway the rear bumper fell off. After getting under the vehicle I found the frame to be rusted from the furthest point back to the axle area. Looking into it more I found the cross member to be rusted to the point that it is ready to fall off. The gas tank holding straps are rusted from the frame, not sure what's holding the gas tank in place. The spare tire holder is rusted and ready to come off. I removed the spare a placed it in the bed for now. The bed and its mounts are shot, the bed can be picked up a good two inches off the frame. Basically the truck is nothing but rust from the cab back. I was lucky when the bumper fell off 1/2 hour earlier I was traveling on a state highway at speeds of 60-65 mph. I have looked at other Rangers the same year and found some worse and some with no rust what so ever. Whats up? and is Ford aware of the problem and are they going to do anything about it. Who would have gotten sued if my bumper had fallen and killed someone?.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2012

Rear frame rotted out. The truck was garage kept for at least 7 years until I moved. I always took excellent care of my vehicles always washing and waxing them. I never took them off roading or in any muddy conditions. The body is still in excellent condition as is the interior and everything else on the truck.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2009

My frame is rusted out, 110,000, miles, replaced transmission, brake lines, gas lines, and a # of other things, due to a rusted out under carriage, the motor is great, things on the frame are breaking off all the time, so much rust cant even see a bolt.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2008

This is the second time this truck has failed n h state inspection for frame problems, first time was for a rusted through cross member which I had to have welded,11/17/2009. Now I go back for another inspection on 11/30/2012 and was told I had to replace rear shackles which I say ok,the repair shop calls me and tells me the frame is rotted through and they can not put in the, frame has to be replaced from back to about 4 feet to the front and at another cost of 350$ the last cost was the same 350$. I take very good care of this truck and the body looks like new. The welding shop guy told me he had to do several of these repairs to even 2002 Ford trucks,I can not see the reason for this, this is the first of any cars or trucks I have ever owned that had frame problems, can you help recoup some or all of my money on this,I am disabled and on a fixed income and can not afford to throw money out the window, thanks for your help. 30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2008

There is a lot of frame rust on my truck. Especially where the frame connects to the bed. I had to replace both the rear spring shackle brackets, both broke off because of rust. Twice there was a hole in the brake line, luckily I saw this when the car was parked and now while I was driving which could have been very dangerous. The rear bumpers paint has peeled off and the now is very rusty and it could fall off at anytime.

Truck rode very bouncy, bouncing and shaking most noticeable at 25 to 55mph. The bouncing is so severe the vehicle is starting to drift of the road and hard to control.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2001

Would be driving and had vibration in left rear. It became more pronounced when driving at highway speeds. Would feel like a flat tire. Took to dealership, and mechanic could not locate cause of vibration. Consumer feels there is a problem with the design or manufacturing of the left rear suspension, also stating if this were a tire problem, the left rear tire would not be the only one being affected, could be a tire problem though, consumer has firestone, p235/75r15, dot 8xhlip4.
