43 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/01/2002

This complaint is about a Ford Ranger edge supercab 4x4. I have had this truck barely over 2 years and it has 45,000 miles on it. About one year after purchasing the vehicle I started having transmission problems, the "overdrive off" light flashing and funny shifts from first into second as well as a hesitant acceleration followed by a small jerk. I took it in to have it fixed and apparently it was. About 3 months later the transmission started acting up again in the same fashion. I took it in and once again thought it was fixed until a few months later it started doing the same thing. By this time since I thought the truck was finally fixed I decided to add a 4" suspension lift and 33" tires. When I took it in they told me I need either a new transmission or to have this one rebuilt and that the warranty would cover the cost. After about a week in the shop and torn apart they called and told me the warranty CO. Did not want to pay for the rebuilt transmission because of the "extensive suspension mods" and larger tires. Let me remind you, I had it in 2 times before the lift was put on for this same problem that has not yet been fixed. After a bit of arguing I decided that I wasn't going to win and that I need a truck. So I am now paying $150 a month for the $3000+ for the work and rebuilt transmission. Now, after about 4 months after the work, I am experiencing the same problem yet again. . . Can someone please advise me on how to take care of this problem ??? thanks, aaron.

44 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2001

Realized I had a transmission problem the first time while driving down interstate 95. The engine started revving very high and in panic I shifted down to neutral and then back into drive to get it back into gear. When I took my truck to get looked at, I ended up getting my transmission rebuilt. The mechanic said I had a defective built transmission. I had no idea that Ford had first started using 5 speed automatic transmissions in 1999, so the mechanic told me. I thought I bought a 4 speed transmission and that was what Ford said they sold me. The same thing happened again two years later in may 9, 2003, and again I had to get my transmission rebuilt. Do I have a legitimate complaint?.

46 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/28/2001

My truck was just 3 months now out of warranty. I went to start it to go to work and it would not stay running:just would not. I called gordie boucher service and got an appointment to have it checked out. I was afraid to drive it out there,so I had my husband do that and his father followed in his vehicle. My husband said he had a heck of a time. Truck kept killing and wouldn't stay running. I told him to go in the morning so as not to get caught in heavy traffic and stall out and cause an accident!bottom line:needed mass air flow sensor:cost:$360. 00. I believe this to be a manufacturer defect regardless of being only 3 months out of warranty. I believe this part should last longer than 3 years,3 months and I want to be reimbursed by Ford for the $360. 00 I had to pay. I could have had an accident had that happened on my going to work or getting off work or my husband on his way to take it to be repaired!.

62 Automatic Transmission problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/15/1999

The transmission started in October '99 with a hard downshift in low gear, somewhere between 15 to 10 miles per hour. At that speed you have a hard bump underneath at your transmission and a hum as you come to a stop. Brandon Ford CO. Completely rebuilt the transmission on April 25-27. A few days after, the same problem continued. I took it back and they called the Ford motor CO. In michigan to get a computer reprogramming of the shift, and proceeded to do this work on may 19. This automobile is still hard downshifting in low gear. If you're coming to a stop light behind traffic, it seems kind of dangerous because the downshift could kick out of gear and cause an accident. The only thing I have received from the Ford company is a questionnaire about the service received at brandon Ford, not about my automobile's safety. ( dot number: tire size: p225/70r14 ).
