I have a 2002 Ford Ranger that when I got the truck it had to have the slave cylinder for the clutch replaced which the dealer did, and the truck only had 18,000 miles, but then again before my extended warranty ran out, it went out again at about 52000 miles, and now it has happened again, at 66,000 miles, the slave cylinder again for the clutch, and I am not new to driving manual transmissions, I am 47 and learned to drive on a manual transmission when 16, it also upsets me that Ford said my extended warranty for the second repair did not cover the clutch slave cylinder, and I do not believe a vehicle should require this part to be replaced approximately every twenty or thirty thousand miles. I also believe since I purchased a manual with an extended warranty it should have been covered, my son also has a 2000 Ford Ranger and he recently had the same problem and we both have the v6 with 5 speed manual transmission.

The clutch pedal gets almost to the floor before the clutch will disengage. This problem comes and goes. I am concerned that it will not disengae at all at some point. There has not been an accident because of this yet. I have not fixed it yet.

While driving and approching a freeway entrance the vehicle stick shift became very difficult to shift. Finally when entering 5th gear the vechile slipped into neutral and the stick shift froze up. I had to coast of to the side of freeway and be towed to nearest Ford dealer. The diagnosis was a faulty master and slave cilinder and a faulty clutch system. This vehicle is only 3 year old and has 53,000 mi. I feel that this is a premature system failure.
Howling noise from clutch. Was told by dealer that the clutch was no good, and that they contacted Ford and was advised that parts for repair are currently being manufactured?????????????? the dealer advised me that I would have to wait until mid January for my truck to be repared.

When driving vehicle did not slow down. Manufacturer's recall was issued. However, this vehicle was not included due to VIN. The initial problem started some time ago when the cruise control was engaged. The problem ceased for a while. However, consumer was afraid to drive. And had it repaired.

I took my 1 year and 2 month old Ranger to the dealership to correct a problem I had been having with it not going into gear. The condescending man at the dealership told me after a 5 minute look at my truck that I needed to have my clutch replaced, and that it was out of warranty by 2 months. In calling around to get prices on the replacement of the clutch, I was almost unanimously told that it was next to impossible to have a clutch go out in a vehicle in that short of a time period, when it has not been abused, which mine has not. In researching this, I have found that a lot of people have had similar problems with the clutch on the 2002 Ford Ranger 3. 0.
Dealer presented vehicle as repaired 12-22-1 (replaced slave cylinder for clutch). Was still not disengaging. Still at willey Ford.
The clutch failed with less than 100 miles, would not disengage. Towed to dealer.
Clutch will stick and release unexpectedly, causing engine to stall during normal operation. Dealership has not examined vehicle to determine cause of the problem. Please provide any additional information / documentation.

Clutch would not fully disengage while driving, and transmission would slip. Dealer representative stated clutch assembly failed, due to way I drive, which is a wear item and not covered by warranty, and $623. 00 to repair. Truck has only 32,000 miles on it. Previous two trucks I owned had manual transmissions and over 140,000 miles on them when I sold them and both had original clutches. I have not changed way I drive, and I drive in same area. Brought to aamco for second opinion and was told pressure plate and clutch failure. Was told by aamco it was probably design defect due to only 32,000 miles and pressure plate failure. Also, aamco rep. Stated new Ford Ranger and f-150 manual transmission uses automatic transmission fluid, and has 3 rubber plugs in transmission housing. Auto trans. Fluid eats away rubber plugs, which allows dirt in and fluid out, another design defect.

Load sqeal heard when starting out from a stop and I think I can hear it in second and third gear, but not certain as the engine noise covers the sound. In searching the internet I did find another customer complain similar to mine. Also I found a service bulliten #2521 that states that the parts catalog book references an incorrect clutch part number for some vehicles with the 3. 0l engines. Is it possible that my truck had the wrong part in it originally or they put the wrong part in ( througout bearing replaced July 1999) when they fixed it. This is the second time that I am having this problem and I will be contacting another dealer with this problem, as I was not completely satisfied with the service that I got from the dealer that I bought the truck from. Please advise. Thanks, jay grover.

Clutch switch broke, vehicle does not suppose to start without it. However vehicle started without the clutch switch and ran right into the garage door. Dealer patched switch up, manufacturer is suppose to investigate the vehicle.

Manual transmission wouldn't go into gear. Dealership replaced a chip in the engine motor. But, problem recurred. Then, dealership replaced the clutch pedal because it was loose, and problem recurred.
This is a red carpet contract. Bought the pickup in oct. 99. Started having trouble with the clutch in Jan. 2000, sent it in to check the clutch and they said nothing wrong. Sent I back because engine light stayed on and the problem with clutch was still there. They changed a sensor and again said nothing wrong with clutch. I didn't get it out of the lot before the clutch went completely out. This time they replaced the clutch. They said it was a manufactor default in Nov. 2000 was hit broadsided on passenger side, behide door, and the whole backend was replaced. Put 2 new tiares on back and extensive work done on backend. Assumed tires were balanced and front and back aligned. I had it back again July 22,2001. The clutch is acting up again, the steering is all wrong and it keeps dying on me. The back of the truck feels like it is trying to pass the front end. The front end shakes relly bad at 60mph, and when I try to speed up the motor bogs down . I took it back for all this and once again nothing is wrong except my inagination, and the wheels need to be balanced and the faront end needs re-alignment. I was told that the reason it wouldn't speed up when given gas was because of the carpet under the gas peddal, so they removed it. The clutch is still not engaging correctly and they still say there is nothing wrong with it. My warrantuy is out at 36000 miles and I want this truck fixed now not next year. Because I am a woman they think that I am stupid but I have news for them. There is something wrong with the truck and if I'd have known that this would be happening I would never have accepted the truck after the accident. The assured me that everything was like brandnew, but they lied and now they won't correct anything. I do hope that you will check into this, as I have 2 small children who travel in this truck and if anything happens to them because of these problems, I will have no other option that to hire an attorney and go to court.
Problem with clutch, dies when trying to enter traffic, hard to steer when turning and strange noise coming from front of truck. Had it back numerous occations and its been blamed on carpet under gas peddal to my imagination.
Power transmission clutch slave cylinder failed.
On previous 1997 Ford Ranger I had the same problem with the slave cylinder Ford said that problem had been fixed but obviously it hasn't in my new truck I have the exact same problem in speaking with the repair man he stted that this problem has not been fixed and it is about every 15,000 to 25,000 miles when the slave cynder goes it is a two day job costing from $700 to $900. Ford is burying their heads in the sand. Now I am stuck whith this problem what are my rights? obviously there is a problem with Ford manual transmin. Many of my friends have the same problem. I also have a transfer case problem with my 4x4 it won't go in to four low and when it does I can't back the truck up now it's affecting 4 high. In addition something is wrong with my radio the volume f various and the radio it self if you shut it off and turn it back on it sometimes doesn't turn back on for a good mile or two and once I was putting my power window down and it shut off! this is a brand new truck it is all highway mile of smooth riding I don't know what to do I stuck paying for this thing to 2003 and I currently trying to look at other cars. My 1997 truck still has the clutch problem after it been replaced and once it was it was fine for 11,500 miles when I called the dealership on it they said it was fine without even looking at it when I brought it to them they said it was over the 12,000 mile and "tough luck"! I will never buy a Ford again! please help!.
