I have a 96 Ford Ranger. Seat belt will not stay fastened, will come loose while driving down the road.
As I was driving on the interstate going about 60 mph, my seat belt (driver's side) came unbuckled. As I attempted to buckle it again, I was unable to get it to stay buckled. I contacted the local car dealer who asked me to bring the vehicle in for them to inspect. Upon inspection by the dealer where I bought the truck, I was informed of the need to have the seat belt connector unit replaced. This was done the next day, and I have retained the replaced part.
When I put my driverside seat belt into the buckle it will not latch. I went to classic Ford at 7799 mentor Ave, mentor, OH and they said it was out of warrenty and Ford would not cover it. They wanted to charge me to replace it. Approx. $100. I currently use the female end of the middle passenger seat belt.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Ranger. While the contact's daughter was trying to fasten the passenger side front seat belt it would not latch. The contact inspected the latch , and there did not appear to be anything lodged in the latch to cause it not to lock. The contact stated that there seemed to be plastic part of the seat belt that broke off. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealership yet, because when the consumer contacted the dealership they stated that it would cost approximately $100 to replace the seat belt. The manufacturer stated that there was a five year, 50,000 mile warranty on the seat belts, and there was nothing they could do to replace the seat belt without the consumer covering the cost. Updated 11/29/2005- a local gas station was able to repair the seat belt for under $60. The consumer still has the broken belt in his possession.

Passenger-side seat belt becomes un-buckled at random times. The buckle initially engages and seems to perform correctly, but at any moment it may disengage from the latch. I reported this problem to five star Ford on 7/24/01. They "tested" the belt latch and reported it was ok. Their "test" is defective. The belt continues to become unlatched at random times. I returned to five star Ford on 8/21/01 and complained lots and demanded a replacement latch. They informed me of the recall, and told me they are ordering a replacement. I can't believe they didn't replace the latch when I first reported the problem in July! their "test" does not detect the random-behavior failures that occur with this seat belt. This should be a total recall and replacement, whether their "test" dictates it or not! it is over 2 weeks later, and still no replacement part for me, and seat belt is still unbuckling. Rq04011. Owner gives perm. To release info.
