36 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/25/2014

I have a 2. 3l engine with a bad fuel vapor hose that is part of the emission control system and the dealer says it's not covered under warranty. They are refusing to cover this hose. I think this should be covered as part of the federal emission warranty.

37 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

Bought the 2003 Ranger new in Jan 2004. Last week, after coming to a stop at red light, it suddenly began revving up drastically ( 3000 + rpm's). Braked harder to keep it from ramming car in front. Put in park and turned off with key. Re-started and it ran normally. It has done this twice more since then, once when I put it in reverse to back out of parking spot. Both times it ran normally after the incident. Never had this happen before. Checked mats around the accelerator pedal, all clear. There are 66,720 miles on odometer, no major problems 'till now. ???.

38 Other Fuel System problem of the 2002 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

I was coming home from work and I went to park my truck in the front yard. When the truck was about to stop the engine roared, as if I really hit the gas pedal and I had to jam the car in park to get it to stop. Today, as I was coming home from work, I was coming to a four way stop in a school zone. When I was almost stopped the truck engine accelerated and I had to put the truck in park to get it to stop. I need to know is there a recall from Ford for this. I cannot let anyone else drive my truck for fear it will happen to them and they will not know what to do.

40 Other Fuel System problem of the 1996 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/05/2014

Rubber fuel vapor hose between fuel vapor purge valve and charcoal canister can't be repaired because Ford has made part obsolete. This hose is not a normal off the shelf bulk hose. It is rubber preformed with a different inside diameter on both ends. Ford won't even give me part number! three parts parts vendors were recommended to maybe find part. The vendors all want part number though-so that doesn't help me. The vehicle constantly leaks gasoline fumes. I'm not expecting Ford to fix it because of age of truck. Something ought to done by Ford to make part available to consumer. This is a serious safety issue. Truck could easily catch on fire!.

41 Other Fuel System problem of the 2011 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/04/2014

The check engine light comes on at the time of power lose on the highway traveling about 65 mpg. It only happens on the highway traveling at higher than 50 mpg. It doesn't happen on slower drives in the city. We be traveling on/or about 65mpg, than engine light comes on, then the engines feels like its looses power, power falls like your out of gas. We pull over, shutoff the engine , then start it up again. Check engine goes away for a while then comes back. We put it on the computer, and it brought up the code pin pointing the problem. Part #101104000997 needed to be replaced. I replaced it and the problem went away. Have you had any other mustangs that have the same problem? or is there a recall for this problem?.

46 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/18/2012

As a passenger entered my truck, their foot hit the inertia switch killing the fuel system. This has now happened approximately 15 times, 3 of which no passenger was even in the truck. This switch is placed in a commonly kicked area and once tripped the first time it becomes extremely sensitive to vibration. One time it cut off while I was idling in line at a drive-thru. It should be recalled and relocated.

47 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/04/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Ranger. While driving approximately 55 mph, there was an extremely strong odor of fuel from inside of the vehicle. The contact maneuvered to the side of the road and noticed a significant amount of fuel leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the fuel line was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The contact experienced the failure as mentioned in the recall associated with the 2010 Ford Ranger under NHTSA campaign id number 11v126000 (fuel system, gasoline:delivery:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). 49 Other Fuel System problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

Last year I started noticing a gas smell when filling. Beginning of this year I noticed gas leak on ground when filling. I am now in the process of replacing the gas fill pipe, it has deteriorated to an unusable condition. Whether this is because of the gasohaul used in mn. Or poor quality in the manufacturing I couldn't tell you,but when I ordered the part they told me the same thing happened to their delivery truck. I believe this is an unsafe condition and should be looked into before there is an explosion or fire in a gas station while someone is filling their truck. Please contact me if more information is needed or what is being done with this matter.

50 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

Strong smell of gas fumes. 2010 Ford Ranger taken to dealer. Dealer reported a split in the fuel line. Fuel line was protected by a shield. No appearance of visible damage to fuel line. Cost of repair $538. 00. Vehicle had 55,000 miles on it. Fumes could be detected outside of vehicle, and would build up in closed shop area, which lead to investigation of the odor. Manufacturers defect of line.

51 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/19/2010

Purchased a 2009 Ford Ranger in July 2010. Twice since then when I come to a stop the rpm's still revs and I have to put the truck into neutral. I have had the dealer check it out be can't find any problem.

53 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/13/2010

My Ford 2004 engine will not start. Fuel shut off switch underneath the dashboard on passenger side is defective. Each time before starting I have to push this switch. This can be a huge safety issue. I hope my truck does not stop on the freeway with my kids in it.

54 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/06/2010

Multiple shut offs from the inertia switch has been going on for 2+ years after driving for 30-40 mins truck will just shut down while driving has happened on the interstate, driving around town or sitting at stop light. Ended up melting the connection. Have replaced.

55 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

I have a 2005 Ranger truck and it occasionally feels like it is running out of gas. I had my mechanic check all phases of what could be wrong and he found nothing. I never heard of the inertia switch until reading on here. I will mention this to my mechanic today. Thanks for the info. I did not write down dates and times.

56 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

When turning left on incline/decline fuel inertia cutoff switch activates leaving no steering or braking assist/power.

57 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/15/2006

Two things on my 2003 Ford Ranger supercab 2 wd : 1. ) front brakes are bad, and continue to be bad, due to bad design of front rotors. The original oem rotors fail, due to warping, resulting in a most the aggravating pulsing when brakes are applied. This results in inadequate stopping when needed, and could cause a very severe accident !!! 2. ) the fuel cutoff safety switch ( whatever it is called) above the front passenger leg area (on wall -inside cab) is defective, causing serious consequences to the occupants, due to vehicle losing all power during operation. This has happened to me now 10+ times in the last 6 months. Sometimes while in heavy traffic, with no where to go when all power is lost, gauges go wacky, lose steering control, etc. As soon as the switch is "reset", by pushing in on it from the top of it, and turning vehicle key to on position for 3-5 seconds, then back off ( per owner's manual) the vehicle seems fine,,,until, randomly it happens again when you least expect it. The manual says this switch is for "safety" concerns , when after an accident, it shuts off fuel supply, etc. . . . But my truck has never been in any accident whatsoever, and this device is now becoming a great potential accident producer in itself !!!!! the "incident date" is multiple dates !!!!! and they are still continuing as of today 8 March 2008 * I have been told by mechanics the oem brakes rotors are defective, but since there is no recall, I would have to pay again,,,and again,,,and again. . . Which is just not right.

58 Other Fuel System problem of the 1997 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/09/2006

I own a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 4. 0ltr. Many shops have work on the front axel wheel bearings and seals and retainer nut this nut takes a socket 2. 3/8 r-6 most shops don't have it so they use what ever they have, chisell, locking plyers ect. . . Creating front end damage to wheel bearings, seals, brakes, calipers, brake drums, most of al the tires. . I have spent thousands of dollars because they did not use the right tool for the job also did not remove lcking pin from spindel.

59 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/14/2005

3 times going down the road the truck died and had to be towed. All 3 times was the inertia switch. The other time they replaced part of the transmission. All this on a new truck I've had for 6 weeks. The truck isn't safe. Go out into heavy interstate traffic going 65 and shut your vehicle off. It isn't good. They want me to try it again. I can't put my family or myself in that position again.

60 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/23/2005

Vehicle engines shuts off while at highway speed. Has happened between 20 to 30 times over the life if the vehicle. Has had 4 inertia switches installed. Ford has claimed " intermittent problems are not our problem. " multiple Ford dealerships have also said that it doesn't "throw a code" and is therefore not in need if being fixed just "a quirky vehicle. " I've also been told the only way to permanently fix the problem is to buy a new truck.

61 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/13/2004

Fuel cut off switch located under the dashboard on passenger's side was engaged on two separate occasions while driving at highway speed of 50 mph or more. The fuel cut off switch was engaged by the passenger's foot. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who replaced the fuel cut off switch. Consumer was concerned that the fuel cut off switch did not have a protective cover to prevent this incident from recurring.
