37 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/06/2026

I've had many issue's with this vehicle's transmission: harsh and erratic shifting. Shuddering when accelerating. Slippage. On several occasions not able to go in reverse. Issue's started at 45k miles. Had it in the shop on several occasions to address problem. I've had to replace faulty transmission at 70k miles. This is a faulty transmission due to incompetent cdf clutch drum. This is not a safe vehicle to operate.

38 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

My truck experienced a p0302 misfire on the freeway, which caused it to shake immediately and made it very difficult to drive. I had it towed to the dealership, and they told me there was water in the spark?plug wells, which was surprising since I live in las vegas, nv, where it rarely rains. My spark plugs were rusted as well as the cylinder head. After looking into it online, I discovered that Ford issued TSB?23?2011 for the Ford Ranger due to a windshield cowl leak that allows water to drip directly onto the engine. Their proposed fix is to install an engine cover, but that clearly doesn’t solve the issue since my truck already has the engine cover installed. Now I’m stuck paying for repairs caused by a design flaw that Ford never properly addressed.

40 Power Train problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/07/2026

I am the original owner of this vehicle and the engine and controls have not been modified in any way. Yesterday while driving at approximately 30 mph on a surface street with dry road conditions in the “2h” setting on the drive modes selection dial my truck spontaneously shifted into four-wheel drive high and then attempted to switch into four-wheel-drive low – “rock crawl mode. ” the rear differential locked, speed was suddenly reduced, and the steering became more difficult. Luckily, I was able to safely pull over. I captured a video at this time documenting the control settings and display image. It took multiple attempts, even in park and neutral, to get out of 4wd and back into the 2h setting. Once back in 2h, the truck drove normally. I have had similar experiences at least twice before in this truck with months between them. In those cases, I wondered if I had accidentally bumped the dial control. I am certain that this was not the case yesterday, so this was a spontaneous event initiated by the truck’s computer and/or mechanical controls. I consider this to be a very serious safety hazard, as it dramatically and unexpectedly affected the speed and handling of my truck. I did some online searching today and found that multiple other Ranger raptor owners have experienced this issue, suggesting that this may be a serious design flaw affecting multiple vehicles. I plan to schedule a service appointment with Ford and notify them directly of this problem and hazard.

41 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/06/2026

Truck hesitates to go into gear then slams into reverse unexpectedly with a lot of force backing up - almost ran over a family member. Same thing when cold and going from park to drive, almost drove off my driveway down a steep mountain. I believe it is related to TSB 24-2046 no warning lights or anything, dealer has not been able so far to reproduce because the weather warmed up.

42 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

My 10 speed 10r80 transmission is failing and dangerous. Besides slipping bucking and delaying shifting it now revs up without moving. I've almost been hit more than 6 times. My Ford dealer changed the fluid road tested and normal all that I'm complaining about is normal.

43 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/02/2026

The 10r80 transmission cdf drum failed due to a defective bushing housing, resulting in the replacement of the 10r80 transmission. The diagnosis of the failure took 3 weeks because there were no warning lights or engine codes. The symptoms of the failure were erratic shifting in heavy highway traffic, causing harsh up/down shifts and shift patterns. The erratic shifting makes driving feel unsafe, as the vehicle may lurk or seem to lose power. Currently, with the new 10r80 transmission with the redesigned cdf drum bushing housing, similar symptoms of erratic up/down shift going between 20-40 mph and between gears 3-7 are present. The vehicle is going back in to the shop for diagnosis and potential repairs.

44 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/29/2025

Vehicle has no gears and will not move. Was able to pull into parking lot. Transmission has acted jerky and slipped gears since I bought it.

45 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/27/2025

While driving car shifted from 2nd to neutral. Engine rpms went up but no power was transfered to tires. Had to put car into park and then back into drive to regain power transfer to tires. Luckily no one was injuried. Took car to local mechanic. Diagnostic came up with no error messages. Service tech took it for a brief test drive and noticed issue with transmission. Recommended transferring to dealership where truck was purchased. To date all maintenance has been performed by dealership. Followed their 'recommended' maintenance schedule.

46 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/23/2025

Several occasions, pulling out into traffic and giving it gas the truck jerks repeatedly and won't go and then we'll kick into normal speed several times driving out of nowhere rpm shoot up truck almost comes to a complete stop in the middle of traffic but no code is popping up saying there's anything wrong with the vehicle and in order to have Ford looking at it. It's gonna cost $399 since as of now there is no recall on anything for this.

47 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

My 2019 Ford Ranger is equipped with the 10r80 10-speed automatic transmission that experiences hard/erratic shifting (as if it can't decide what gear it wants to be in), jerking/lunging especially in 1-2 gear when making a brief stop-and-go (stop sign or a crosswalk). The first couple time it happened, it felt like I got rearended or hit a curb.

48 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

I was driving and all of a sudden I lost acceleration in the middle of an intersection. My truck had no gears and gave me zero indication there was an issue. I then was told Ford has a newly designed part that fixes the issue and I would have to pay $7500. How does a manufacturer knowingly sell such a dangerous product, and not have a recall for that product after updating a faulty design?.

49 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/13/2025

We where driving down the PA turnpike pike when the transmission began to shift between 8 and 9th gears. A wrench icon turned on. I pulled over and the transmission stayed stuck in 9th gear even when parked. I turned off the truck and opened the door which turned the ignition off. When I opened the door I heard a click from the transmission. Turned the truck back on and it ran normal and the wrench went away. I use a code reader at all times and was able to record the code. This occurred while overtaking another car and almost caused a multi car and semi accident.

50 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/05/2025

The transmission stutters at sustained modest speed (25-45 mph). It was taken to the dealer, who determined it was affected by TSB 25-2134. This is a widely known issue and the dealer refused any servicing without payment. This should have been a recall, since hundreds of known issues in and out of warranty have occurred.

51 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/03/2025

While driving my 2022 Ford Ranger, the transmission failed to engage drive. I started my morning as usual, letting the vehicle warm up and the rpms settle before leaving my neighborhood. As I pulled onto the main road, the truck began acting strangely—I noticed it wasn’t accelerating normally and felt constant gear shifting without gaining speed. To avoid blocking traffic, I pulled over at a local store and shifted into park. When I tried to shift back into drive, the transmission would not engage. Pressing the gas felt like the truck was in neutral. I turned the vehicle off for about a minute and restarted it, but the same issue occurred. I then called my local dealer, who suggested using sport mode and manually selecting gear 2. This worked, and I was able to drive home safely since I was only about a minute away. After that, I contacted the warranty company and arranged for a tow. Component/system: transmission safety risk: loss of acceleration on a main road created a risk of collision with other vehicles. Reproduced/confirmed: unknown until December 15th if the issue has been reproduced or confirmed by the dealer. Inspection: dealer is scheduled to inspect the vehicle on December 15. Warning lamps/messages: none appeared prior to the failure. None after. Until repairs are completed, I am without a vehicle and will only be reimbursed for a rental while repairs are worked on.

52 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/26/2025

I’ve been noticing a delay in shit out of 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 9th gear. Sometimes it slams but most of the time not. Anyways, this morning on my way to work I passed a slow driver on 2 lane road. After I merged back into the lane, I resumed cruise control and basically lost all power to the wheels. The vehicle I passed about slammed into the back of me. I canceled cruise control to give gas and the transmission was fighting me to stay in a gear. It finally caught and I drove it the rest of the way to work with the “normal” 1,3,6,and 9 being weird. My safety and the other vehicles safety was definitely at risk. The was no warning lights that came on. I haven’t had it checked out yet because this is same day.

53 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

Started having issues with 10r80 transmission at 40k then a complete replacement at 53k, nothing but continued problems, now back at shop a week later for knocking and transmission.

59 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/22/2025

The transmission failed prematurely (my point-of-view) at around 115,000 miles. A Ford dealer diagnosed and determined the transmission needed replaced. The vehicle was a 2019 Ford Ranger xl with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission would get stuck in 2 gear, sometimes upshifting and sometimes downshifting. Driving highway speeds the speed needle would also drop to zero even though I was moving. They noted that solenoids were bad but replacement was needed. I had the transmission replaced with a new warrantied transmission but it was very expensive at $9,650. It did come with a 2-year warranty. That is half the value of the truck! this is the fourth Ford truck I have owned. I do use it as a truck and haul a few things around as projects dictate but do little towing, drive it reasonably, and do not take it off-roading. I have never had a transmission fail before. The Ford dealer, and three area shops, noted they see "a lot of 10-speeds" come in for transmission rebuild or replacement. As a now review many Ford forums I see many people with issues surrounding the durability of the 10-speed transmission.

60 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/20/2025

All of these issues: shuddering at the point of acceleration inability to reach desired speed gear lockout failure to start shifter “lockout” or being “stuck in park” hesitation from a stopped position sluggish performance, including during towing “check engine” light “juddering,” which involves shaking of the vehicle during normal operation loss of power or failure to engage.

61 Power Train problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/16/2025

While driving between 5-10 mph on a dry, smooth paved road, the transmission began cycling through 4wd modes and began shifting from normal mode to 4wd sand mode, I was able to pull over and park, but the transmission continued shifting and fully transitioned to 4wd mode. This is the second time it has occurred, the first time the transmission fully switched 4wd and I was barely able to pull off the road to reset it. After first issue, dealership noted the following "3131 confirmed concern. Pulled codes with fdrs and found p05d3 in abs module. Referred to workshop manual and run pinpoint test ah for concern. Ah1 yes. Ah2 had me reconfigure abs module with as-built data rerun self test. No codes returned and system operating correctly at this time. " there multiple online forums with owners having the same problem. . Read more...

62 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/11/2025

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the vehicle hesitated, with an abnormal sound coming from the transmission. The contact stated that the vehicle functioned as intended afterwards. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while driving at 65 mph, the yellow wrench warning light illuminated, and the rpms fluctuated; however, the vehicle failed to move, and the vehicle stalled. The contact turned on the hazard lights and coasted to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 76,000.

63 Power Train problem of the 2025 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/03/2025

Vehicle failed to accelerate multiple times. Reduced engine power (limp mode) activated. It is available for inspection. This is a a safety risk as merging and suddenly not able to accelerate puts lives in danger. The problem was reproduced by the dealership and after the dealership thought they fixed the issue with knock sensors and fresh fuel. The only symptom prior to to system failure was a "popping" noise from the front of the vehicle. The problem started at 1500 miles. This was a new purchase.

64 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

Existing TSB related incident. While driving 45mph transmission began to disengage and free rev. Vehicle wouldn't/ couldn't select a gear. Speed dropped to 30 (in 45mph zone) put hazards on until I could safely pull over, was almost rear ended.

65 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

Purchased used in 2024 with 44,000 miles. Transmission issues began at 79,000 miles. Hard shifting, slipping and then lurching when it goes in gear. Diagnosed after transmission service ($600) as a factory defect in the 10 speed transmission. Ford has issued service bulletins defining and outlining the issue but has offered no assistance in rectifying and repairing. Since so many vehicles are affected there should be a recall. I understand that in canada a class action lawsuit has been initiated.

66 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The vehicle is experiencing a severe power train failure involving erratic and violent gear selection. The transmission unexpectedly jumps from 2nd, 3rd, or 4th gear directly up to 7th or 8th gear, resulting in a total loss of acceleration. This is immediately followed by the transmission "slamming" down into lower gears, usually 1st or 2nd gear without driver input. This behavior is accompanied by a strong burning smell and a dashboard "wrench" warning light. The symptoms match the manufacturing defect documented in Ford TSB 24-2101 (cdf clutch drum). Diagnosis & manufacturer response: the issue began in October 2025 with a noticeable transmission shudder. I paid for two transmission flushes at big o tires to attempt to resolve the issue, but the mechanical failure has since escalated. When the "wrench" light appeared, an independent diagnostic computer was unable to retrieve an error code, as the light is a proprietary Ford powertrain indicator. Furthermore, the wrench light clears upon restarting the vehicle, despite the violent shifting and burning smell remaining. Ford corporate agents claim there are "no known issues" and have refused to assist with towing, despite an active NHTSA engineering analysis (pe 24-001) regarding this exact 10r80 transmission. Safety risk: this defect creates an extreme safety hazard. Violent downshifting into low gears at highway speeds can cause a loss of vehicle control or a rear-end collision. The burning smell indicates internal friction and fluid oxidation, posing an immediate fire risk or the potential for a catastrophic mechanical lock-up.

67 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/23/2025

My 2019 Ford Ranger 4x4 was bought new in April of 2019 and has approxiamatly 73,400 miles. Over time a slight glitch in the transission got to be more frequent. When first starting out within the first mile of operation, the vehicle would hang between gears and act like it ran out of fuel for a few seconds at low speed, as in pulling out from a stop sign or accelerating from a dead stop. My guess is inbetween first and second or second and third gear. It just wouldn'd go. Fortunatley I was not involved in any accidents. I can see where this could easily cause a mjor accident. There are several TSB's for this transmission and I believe Ford and general motors use this same transmission. I have had my truck at the dealer for almost a month after it got scary to drive it got scary to drive. They are repairing this and contributing to the cost. I feel ike they no there is a problem and probably should have done a recall before someone gets killed.

68 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/22/2025

Automatic transmission available for request accelerating and stoping proves to be a safety issue on the roadways confirmed by anyone that drives the vehicle not inspected, out of warranty and can not afford replacement no lamps.

69 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/12/2025

I bought the 4x4 Ford Ranger specifically to be towed behind my motor home and followed the directions on how to set up the flat-tow feature that allows the Ranger to be towed behind my motorhome. I had traveled to a number of good same rallys without any trouble with the Ranger. I use it also as my main vehicle at home to go to store, church etc. On my last trip to branson, mo while coming home there was a noise that sounded like my brakes on the Ranger were locked up. I took my foot off the gas pedal and it stopped, I proceeded on home when it did this several times. Each time it would stop. I got home disconnected the Ranger and it started fine, I drove it almost 200 miles when I began to notice a jerking from the transmission and took it to my dealer. They proceeded to check it out and told me that the transmission and universal were bad and needed to be replaced at a 17k price. According to the computer readout my battery had failed 2 times. How can a battery fail two time??? apparently this caused my flat tow in nuetral tow to go into normal range and at that time made my truck act like it was in normal range, towing a dead truck. This could have caused me to have a bad accident, end up in a ditch. The shop checked and the batter was low but ok. The computer on board did this to my truck and lied on the readout. Three (3) other Rangers had this happen to them and one blew up. I am sure other Ranger owners have had this happen to them too. This can cause a serious accident. I have filed a complaint to our attorney general in my state.
