36 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

It started moth my vehicle losing power and chugging , dealership diagnosed as transmission (10 speed ). After all of the Ford appointed tasks to fix said problem, valves were replaced , did not work then entire transmission was replaced . After 7 times in the shop and many missed work hours . Maybe 2 weeks later truck starts bucking as I enter the highway , was close to getting rear ended . Brought vehicle to dealership 2 weeks later diagnosed with the turbo going out in it . And then Friday 3/14 driving home from work the check engine light comes on. Says emission issues ? also says need to service engine soon . Dealership says it is fine to drive they will call me when they can figure it out ? my vehicle ha less than 25k miles these issues started when I had 17k on it started 8/5/24.

37 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

2021 Ford Ranger transmission slipping during driving . Causes vehicle to jerk during shifting in gear 3, 4, 7, which causes the vehicle to jerk also during down shifting it shifts very hard. I looked online and apparently Ford will not issue a recall because they will lose money on all the repairs they must do. If they changed the rings in the 2022 transmission they are aware of the issue obviously but refuse to address the problem. For us 2021 owners we are fucked. 9000$ repair for us.

38 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/13/2025

While driving the vehicle started to act like it could not find a its gears in the transmission and made a loud clunk then stopped moving attempted to put it in reverse and it sook a minute before it shifted and made another loud clunk then lost both forward and reverse. Currently at Ford getting a new transmission. Vehicle stopped moving while driving and hard to get off the road, no warning lights came on in the vehicle.

39 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/08/2025

The 10r80 10 speed transmission in my truck has failed, due to the steel to aluminum drum being different materials it cause pre mature catastrophic failure. The damaged components resulted in needing a full overhaul/rebuild of my transmission at my full expense. My Ford dealer stated there is a known tech service bulletin about this exact failure which means Ford knows there's a problem but will not fix it. The resulting damage was the sun gear has failed, the drum has failed, and there are chunks missing from gears 5,6 and 7, which also resulted in needing a new valve body, and new torque converter. I opted to take my Ranger to a independent shop as I no longer trusted Ford to rebuild the transmission correctly and I do also have the failed components. The safety issues were losing all drive train function randomly when in operation, on several occasions this happened on the freeway at freeway speeds, or sitting in stop and go traffic and the the truck would just rev but not go anywhere, both scenarios have happened with my kids in the vehicle putting there lives in danger. Yes the problem has been confirmed by both the Ford dealer and the independent transmission shop. Yes I brought the parts to the Ford dealer to look at, but they do remain in my possession. No, there were lights or indicators that a failure was happening, ive done all the Ford recommended maintenance at the time it was due, the hard shift had always been there but I was told that's just how it was on multiple occasions. This is a known issue and I have spoken with several other 2019-2023 Ford Ranger owners and majority have had the exact same issues occur.

43 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/19/2024

In my 2019 Ford Ranger, which has 75,570 miles, on [xxx], I was at a stop sign on [xxx] , at [xxx] , near statesboro, GA, waiting for a break in traffic to safely cross. When a safe break occurred, I proceeded to cross, and at about the halfway point of crossing, the transmission bucked, and the truck began to slow to a halt. As a tractor trailer was bearing down on me broadside, the transmission jumped into gear, and I was able to proceed, and narrowly avoided a broadside collision. Afterward, the warning lamp indicated a powertrain malfunction (wrench) light. I took the truck to my local autozone, where I used their obd, and the test result fault was "power train system, p07f7-00, gear 10 incorrect ratio". I have an appointment at metter Ford to repair the issue on January 17th, 2025. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

44 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Transmission failer. Lurches at start up even in park refuses to shift gears.

45 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/01/2024

Increasingly the transmission, when cold, was experiencing difficulty shifting between 3-4-5 and not shifting into 9-10. When the weather started reaching zero degrees overnight, the vehicle was reluctant to move and, once it began moving, would not shift out of 1st. After allowing the vehicle to warm up, it would reluctantly shift from 3-4-5 and then, without any speed reduction, suddenly downshift with a shudder and bang. Vehicle is in the Ford dealer while they preform the TSB related to this universally known problem with the 10r80 transmission. Despite the TSB “approving” significant part replacements, including clutches, modules and converter, the dealer is required to proceed a few steps at a time and then test the vehicle to document the need to replace more components, before proceeding the the TSB. Ford is avoiding what should be a full recall involving providing the dealers with a rebuilt transmission and converter with the dealer’s responsibility only being the replacement of the transmission. Ford’s dealing with this very well know problematic transmission with a TSB is grossly unfair to the dealers and exceedingly unfair to the consumers who eventually bear the financial burden.

46 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/11/2024

Transmission issues that are known to the manufacturer. Backed out onto a road while there was no traffic, shifter into drive and the transmission made a banging noise and refused to shift. Cars started coming in behind me and I was blocking traffic. Was able to get it into neutral then into drive so I could pull away. This is a well known issue to Ford and they have only offered service bulletins that provide temporary fixes until vehicles are out of the factory warranty period and Ford no longer has to cover repair costs. Vehicle only has 50,000 miles and the transmission issues started around 30,000.

47 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

In the past 3 months, my 2019 Ford Ranger has had a multitude of issues come up all at once. First, my transmission destroyed a gear and needed to be rebuilt. Next was an engine misfire code that Ford detected, and ended up being spark plugs at 66k miles. The current issue is that my fan clutch failed, causing it to rip off the wiring harness that was nearby that led to the oil pressure sensor. This caused an instant loss in power on the highway and almost caused an accident. This truck has been given servicing on every mileage checkpoint that it was suppose to.

48 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

2021 Ford Ranger - 10r80 transmission failure while driving. Hard shifting, lurching, slipping gears then abrupt failure. It is available. Currently at diehl Ford in new brighton, pennsylvania. - it went from being 90% drivable to coming to complete stop with no transmission engagement at all. Break down occured while climbing a grade and the complete stop happened over a blind crest with guard rails on either side. Leaving myself vulnerable to being struck from behind and another driver having minimal time to see then avoid me or potentially have no where to go but through me. Can I add documents later as I get them?.

52 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

We love Ford Rangers. This is my 4th. It has been wonderful, until [xxx]. We had to replace an a/c, but that's normal. We've also noticed a very few times that when the transmission shifted, there was a little jolt. But that was rare. But on [xxx], after stopping at a light at the intersection of [xxx] and [xxx] in indianola, ms. , we had a frightening experience. After crossing the busy highway I began to accelerate and suddenly the truck jolted forward and quickly accelerated to 70 mph. I hit the brakes, and after a couple of taps it slowed down. But when I gave it more gas, it only roared twice, and no power. . . With big trucks beside and behind me. That was frightening. Then it returned to normal, and I went on to isola, ms. Upon leaving it didn't want to move forward, only roaring, but then quickly responded and was back to normal. I was scheduled for a 12:30 lunch meeting in leland, ms and my wife and I proceeded. All normal. Upon leaving leland, same thing. No power at first, then it moved forward, normally. We noticed it was a rough shift at 45 mph as we got out on freeway. I called the service department at hallmark Ford, batesville, and told mgr. My problem. Thought it might be fuel pump, filter, or transmission. Upon arrival at home, it wouldn't go in reverse. I sent it to dealer on wrecker. Got second opinion. Both say it needs a new transmission at $8900. My concern is will the new transmission have same problems. . . Reading now on internet of other people who have had similar events. Money matters, but my concern is the danger this could have inflicted upon us. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

54 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/01/2024

Repeated problems with the 10 spd automatic transmission in my 2020 Ford Ranger. Transmission skips between gears, shakes, jerks, feels like I’m driving over rumble strips. You name it, the transmission is doing it. Took it to the Ford dealership last year and they “cannot reproduce the issue”. That’s because it doesn’t happen all the time. I guess I need to take a technician on a road trip with me to identify the issue. Fast forward to now…warranty is gone and problem still persists. Only 28,000 on the truck. Waiting on a recall to replace the transmission. I mean, these issues are all over the internet. Super common issue. The transmissions are obviously faulty and Ford refuses to resolve the issue. I am beyond irritated at this point.

55 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/08/2024

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle downshifted unexpectedly. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

56 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/08/2024

Transmission 10r80, 10 speed. Had hard shifting, 1st to 2nd gear, excessive engine rpm in 1st gear then dropping hard into 2nd causing tire squawk. Hesitation in power after hard shift causing loss of acceleration, dangerous in heavy traffic. No warning lights and no fault codes produced. Warranty time period expired mid June 2024. Mileage at 52236 was under 60000 limit. Ford dealership refused to cover any costs. Complaints filed with Ford motor company twice. Corp refused any support or compensation. Vehicle was taken to independent certified mechanic who verified the problems. Mechanic followed Ford technical bulletins to make repairs. Three separate steps in the repair process produced no favorable results. Transmission had to be removed and rebuilt with Ford factory oem parts. Several parts replaced were of new design, indicating Ford knows of the problems and is attempting to redesign the transmission, but not supporting customers out of warranty. Since this was our only vehicle a rental was needed for two weeks while the repair process was followed per Ford technical bulletins. Total cost of repairs $7301. 82 for vehicle 2 months out of warranty with less than 53000 miles. Also having problems with the sync system that the dealership also refused to even test at no charge. Since we did not feel safe with this vehicle, nor did it seem reliable, we traded the truck in for a Nissan. We are seeking reimbursement for all costs of repairs and rental cars. Ford needs to issue a recall and reimburse customers regardless of miles and warranty expirations. I have receipts for all expenditures and all parts removed and replaced on/in the transmission. Documents can be supplied upon request.

57 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/21/2024

I have a 10r80 10 speed transmission with 102,ooo miles . It started bucking on me when changing gears and sometimes feels like no power or sometimes wants to speed up on me. Kind of scary when merging into traffic on highwy.

58 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/15/2024

There is insufficient shielding to prevent water from reaching the top of the engine. This results in water dripping on the coil packs and also entering the spark plug wells, causing loss of spark and reduced engine output. Over time, this issue also leads to rust in the engine head, potentially resulting in engine failure. Additionally, water can reach the egr dpfe sensor, causing the engine to hesitate and shutter at various speeds. Both of these issues together cause a misfire when applying the accelerator and will cause the vehicle to initially hesitate then surge forward. Even with the engine cover, the venting at the base of the windshield allows water to drip down on the engine head, causing the above issues. Ford does recognize that there is an issue and have written several tsbs on the it.

59 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/13/2024

The check engine light illuminated after leaving residence and traveling less than 5 miles. Had the vehicle check by a certified ase mechanic, he stated that my vehicle had a misfire code (po300), if it was a po301 or po302 or etc, it would indicate a specific coil was misfiring, but the po300 is a general misfire code. Vehicle is jerking, pulling, bogging down as if doesn't want to go forward or is losing power, mechanic changed the spark pulls the first time thinking it was time due to mileage of the vehicle, and cleared the code. One week later check engine light is back on with the same po300 code, he says we can try changing the coils next to see if this fixes the problem. I called my local Ford dealer, who says the will charge me $167 dollars to diagnose the problem, and tell me whats wrong. After I have already told them what the problem is and what the code is for the problem. Which is the same code I got from my $40 code reader is the same code he got from his $1500 code reader, so what can the tell me for $ 167 that I dont already know and have told them, and from further research on recalls for this vehicle, I have found that they already know this problem exist. Ford should be responsible for repairing this know issue of engine misfires before someone dies from this engine shutting down while driving and causing a fatality on the highway.

60 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

My 2019 Ford Ranger (lariat) has as what I've discovered is a habitual problem that many other Ford Ranger owners are experiencing. While driving at lower speeds (28-40 mph) the trucks transmission will begin to knock and buck very hard. I've noticed, according to the gear indicator, that it is in either 7th or 8th gear. The problem has gotten consistently worse and I'm in fear of greater damage to the mechanics, or worse, a potential accident if it completely gives out while driving. - the truck has not had any modifications what-so-ever that would have in any way affected the transmission.

61 Power Train problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

62 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

Truck has hard shifting and loss of power, usually on startup and at low speeds (like in a parking lot) that cause lurching and no response from gas pedal. These events are not reliably repeatable, and result in no dash lights. Sequence of events, start truck, place in reverse, back out of parking spot, place in drive, apply throttle/gas pedal, while driving slowly, car will hard shift, sometimes resulting in a lurch forward, approach exit to parking lot, truck rolls down slight incline of parking lot entrance and throttle is unresponsive to gas pedal, no power, release pedal, wait a second or two, apply pressure and it works. Driving at low speeds in parking lots, truck cannot decide what gear to be in, and sounds horrible, 5-10 mph. Approaching stops on an incline, driving forward, release gas, start to apply brakes, truck will shift and apply power while under braking. Once, pulled in to parking space, backed out to straighten, placed in drive, wrench light came on, no power. Turned the truck on and off again, and that fixed the issue. All incidents between 20k and 40k miles.

63 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

Manufacture defected valve cover allows water to gather and leak into coils causing vehicle to shut down at highway speeds ! this is extremely dangerous and Ford admitted knowing of the issue and even has an active internal fix but demands payment to fix issue. My service advisor said Ford has known of this issue but would only repair if the customer pays for it. Please take this matter under heavy consideration as I nearly lost my life on the ca168 freeway . I have personally read over 7300 online complaints of similar findings from not only Ford Ranger owners , but mechanics from private shops to Ford certified repair shops. Please , please, please contact Ford customer care, they will tell you there is a know issue that they agree poses a threat to drivers . Thank you very much .

64 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/07/2024

I lose power in my vehicle and the code is saying something about my exhaust not showing the correct air pressure. This is causing my truck to shake and gas and brake pedal to stiffen while driving.

65 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

When turning on to another road and accelerating, engine will suddenly loose all power. Releasing accelerator will regain some power until vehicle speed increases. Throttle control is often erratic and transmission shifting is inconsistent resulting in hard clunks during shift. Pulling into traffic with a sudden loss of power leaves me vulnerable to a collision.

66 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

The VIN was not available.

67 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/28/2024

This is what is going on with my 2021 Ford Ranger automatic 10-speed transmission and the vehicle's drivability. When bringing the vehicle to a stop, the shifting down to a 1st gear is often executed so harshly that I can hear the driveshaft ringing in reaction to the transmission hard shift nearly locking the rear wheels. The whole act resembles "slamming" a shifter into a gear without disengaging a clutch that can be achieved on a standard (stick-shift) transmission "bangs" at a full stop feeling like being rear-ended. After a full stop, the take-off is “sluggish” - the truck gets moving in the 1st gear, the engine revs up to 2500 - 3000 rpm the transmission hesitatingly shifts into 3rd (always skipping 2nd), the noticeable sound of ‘gear grinding’ is heard when the 3rd gear is engaging. The whole process usually takes 2 to 3 seconds, the truck would literally "drift" before any noticeable acceleration is achieved. Lastly, since the day days of ownership, in the area around 2k miles and above, the truck, when the gas pedal is “floored” (ea. On the highway), would get a hard "mallet-like: kick with a significant audible, hard knock somewhere in the drivetrain and at times during this even the "explosion-like" could be heard from the engine compartment making the vehicle shudder.

68 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/27/2024

The contact owns a 2020 Ford Ranger XLT. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that she shifted into neutral(n), and then shifted back into drive(d). The contact stated that the vehicle responded, then jerked forward and backward. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving from a complete stop; however, on the last occurrence, the vehicle failed to respond and stalled. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

69 Power Train problem of the 2022 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/27/2024

Five separate incidents where the truck suddenly accelerated to 4500 rpm while in drive. Usually at low speeds. Last incident occurred in driveway where the truck left skid marks on the pavers.

70 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/10/2024

The vehicle skips gears when upshifting and does not shift through all the gears when in cruise mode. The truck will buck and bang jolting the passengers and appear to stall out without any warning. This has happened on numerous occasions and has even stalled out in the middle of a very busy intersection almost causing a collision by the truck not having enough power to coast through the intersection. Based on conversations with the dealership, this is not an isolated issue with our vehicle.
