38 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

When accelerating from a stop, there is a lag in the engine shifting into gear, it causes the rpm's to climb before eventually shifting gears and once it does that the whole vehicle jolts forwards. There is also a noticeable lag when the vehicle is shifting from 1st and second, as well as a jolt when it does shift but not as much of a jolt as the initial 1st to 2nd. Once the vehicle is up to 3/4th gear, it does not appear to have the same issue shifting. This poses a safety issue in numerous situations. One example being, when stopped at an intersection and trying to make a left hand turn, I have to be extremely cautious that I have plenty of space as to account for the potential lag and not being able to accelerate quickly.

39 Power Train problem of the 2025 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

This truck looses power whenever someone changes lanes in front of your car. This happens even if adaptive cruise control and emergency braking is off. When someone changes lanes in front of you, even if they are going the same speed or faster, your car loses all power for 2-3 seconds, even if you apply additional throttle input. If I am on a road trip with standard cruise control on, it will cut power dozes of times per hour. If I am in the right lane with a major exit comming up, my truck will cut power every time someone changes lanes in front of me. I have had 18 wheelers lay on their horn because they do not understand why I am slowing down when there is no reason to slow down. I cannot properly explain how dangerous this vehicle behavior is. I have brought the truck to the dealer two times and they are unable to resolve it.

43 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

When I accelerate after a stop my truck starts jerking when shifting thru lower gears and the check engine light flashes. To increase my speed I have to slowly press the gas until it shifts thru gears. After it shifts thru the lower gears it appears to be okay. It doesn't do it at each stop but is now happening more frequently. I don't know if it's a transmission problem or fuel pump. Current mileage is around 62000. If I'm on the highway it will sometimes start jerking while the using cruise control and I have hit the brakes and take over acceleration. I've now parked the truck because dealer cannot get to it for 3-4 weeks.

44 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/16/2025

Transmission feels like it is delayed in engaging gears at various speeds. Stop and go traffic is most noticeable. When it does change gears, it often feels jerky. Lower speeds at most noticeable but over 50mph seems to run fine.

45 Power Train problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/14/2025

Transmission on this brand new vehicle with less than 3500 miles is bad. Safety issue as well. Periodically you will go to press accelerator and nothing will happen. The truck will fall out of gear and will not accelerate randomly. I've had this incident occur when trying to get into the highway which is unsafe and I've had this happen on standard roadway as well. This is a big safety concern because of vehicle won't go into gear and accelerate then it could cause rear collision from other vehicles on the road. In addition to this if you drive the vehicle, turn it off, and then a few hours later go to drive the vehicle again the transmission slams into gear so hard that the entire truck jumps. This Ford Ranger has huge transmission issues and after looking online many owners of this same vehicle have this problem yet Ford won't do anything about it because the maintenance light doesn't pop up on the dash despite the obvious and dangerous issue happening.

46 Power Train problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 05/09/2025

On the freeway cruise control at 75 mph, truck started down shifting in to 7th gear, then back up and continued to do this several times until I reached my destination. Took it out of cruise control and still did it. It did it again about 3 days later. I took it to Ford dealership, they test drove it and it wouldn't do it for them.

52 Power Train problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/08/2025

1. The vehicle will sometimes randomly switch between drive modes with no influence from the driver. I believe it could be a faulty drive mode sensor and the vehicle is available to be inspected. 2. Having the vehicle switch drive modes at random could cause an increase in danger while driving. Going from normal to baja or other modes while at highway speeds is very concerning, considering it changes from 2-wheel to 4-wheel drive. 3. No. 4. No, the vehicle will be taken to a Ford dealership soon for the current window recall. 5. No prior warnings. The first couple of times, I thought I may have bumped it, but on multiple occasions I have realized it did it by itself with no influence from the operator. 6. For the additional details below: I put in the most recent incident, but it has occurred multiple times over the past year.

Dealership couldn’t replicate the problem and Ford is unwilling to help. Truck rough shifts, clunks, and shudders. At times won’t go into gear at lower speeds. Turned a corner at a slow speed and hit the gas but the truck wouldn’t accelerate for 1-2 seconds and I was almost rear ended by the car behind me. Truck has failed to go into gear and accelerate in traffic more than one time. 4 years old with 64xxx miles and in need of a third transmission.

After all of the Ford appointed tasks to fix said problem, valves were replaced , did not work then entire transmission was replaced . After 7 times in the shop and many missed work hours . Maybe 2 weeks later truck starts bucking as I enter the highway , was close to getting rear ended . Brought vehicle to dealership 2 weeks later diagnosed with the turbo going out in it . And then Friday 3/14 driving home from work the check engine light comes on. Says emission issues ? also says need to service engine soon . Dealership says it is fine to drive they will call me when they can figure it out ? my vehicle ha less than 25k miles these issues started when I had 17k on it started 8/5/24.

65 Power Train problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/24/2025

2021 Ford Ranger transmission slipping during driving . Causes vehicle to jerk during shifting in gear 3, 4, 7, which causes the vehicle to jerk also during down shifting it shifts very hard. I looked online and apparently Ford will not issue a recall because they will lose money on all the repairs they must do. If they changed the rings in the 2022 transmission they are aware of the issue obviously but refuse to address the problem. For us 2021 owners we are fucked. 9000$ repair for us.

67 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/08/2025

The 10r80 10 speed transmission in my truck has failed, due to the steel to aluminum drum being different materials it cause pre mature catastrophic failure. The damaged components resulted in needing a full overhaul/rebuild of my transmission at my full expense. My Ford dealer stated there is a known tech service bulletin about this exact failure which means Ford knows there's a problem but will not fix it. The resulting damage was the sun gear has failed, the drum has failed, and there are chunks missing from gears 5,6 and 7, which also resulted in needing a new valve body, and new torque converter. I opted to take my Ranger to a independent shop as I no longer trusted Ford to rebuild the transmission correctly and I do also have the failed components. The safety issues were losing all drive train function randomly when in operation, on several occasions this happened on the freeway at freeway speeds, or sitting in stop and go traffic and the the truck would just rev but not go anywhere, both scenarios have happened with my kids in the vehicle putting there lives in danger. Yes the problem has been confirmed by both the Ford dealer and the independent transmission shop. Yes I brought the parts to the Ford dealer to look at, but they do remain in my possession. No, there were lights or indicators that a failure was happening, ive done all the Ford recommended maintenance at the time it was due, the hard shift had always been there but I was told that's just how it was on multiple occasions. This is a known issue and I have spoken with several other 2019-2023 Ford Ranger owners and majority have had the exact same issues occur.

68 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

There was no warning light illuminated. In addition, the transmission was shifting hard while shifting from first through third gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that no fault codes were retrieved. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was referred to a local dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

69 Power Train problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

The automatic transmission and related transmission control system malfunctioned. The vehicle experienced improper shifting and loss of gears, including a condition in which 4th gear is disabled due to a failsafe logic triggered by the transmission control module. The vehicle and all affected components are currently available for inspection upon request and are at a Ford-authorized dealership. This malfunction posed a safety risk because the vehicle was unable to shift normally or maintain consistent acceleration. The unpredictable shifting and loss of gears could create hazardous situations when merging, accelerating, or driving at highway speeds, potentially endangering the driver and others. The problem has been reproduced and confirmed by a Ford dealership. After inspection and diagnostic testing, the dealership advised that the transmission requires replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by a Ford-authorized dealer. It has not been inspected by the manufacturer directly, police, or insurance representatives (unknown). Prior to the failure, warning messages and drivability symptoms were present. Specifically, the transmission control module detected an issue when attempting to shift into 4th gear, triggering a failsafe mode that disabled 4th gear for the remainder of the key cycle. These symptoms appeared before the full transmission failure and progressively worsened over time.
