I bought my Ranger 12 months ago. 6 months ago I noticed the bed of the truck was starting to lean to the left. Also the spare tire came up missing. I thought it was stlolen but upon inspection it had simply rusted the holder under the truck and fallen off. 3 months ago the truck started making a grinding noise upon braking. The right front a arm had rusted and broken off the frame. A mechanic had to weld a piece of metal to the frame because there was nothing to weld to. Then I finally decided to look under the truck and was shocked at what I found. The bed floor was nearly non excistant. Rusted almost completely gone. The spring shackle on the right which is attached to frame with a bracket were sticking up against the bed liner, the bracket completely gone. The tube that holds the right shock absorber is completely rusted off, the shock absorber just hanging there. Mechanics have told me theres no way to repair because theres no viable metal left to weld to. Its simply rusted away. So now im left with over 3 more years of car payments on a vehicle that's useless. I will upload pictures as soon as I can. Thank you. Ot.

Purchased bilstein shocks for Ford Ranger 95 XLT 2wd 6cyl 4. 0 3 years ago front shocks went soft after 5k miles. Persevered and purchased new front shocks [bilstein] a few months ago. Front shocks substandard. Contacted bilstein. Sent all 6 shocks in. Received 6 replacement shocks. Front shocks are substandard. Took vehicle to reputable mechanic in austin. Concerns were verified. Contacted bilstein with information. My patience has run out. This is a standard pickup. Standard suspension highway use only. 10k miles per year. Numbers on shock absorber box are: 24-022361 and f4-b46-2236-h1 I consider this a safety issue. Braking and handling of my vehicle are compromised. Are there other complaints about these shocks? I am in possession of the brand new unused pair of front shocks supplied by bilstein I could submit for independent testing. I would also be able to take my vehicle to any independent mechanic to verify this problem.
For the second time as far as I know the rear frame (rear spring shackles and spear tire holder specifically) have and are being replaced because they have rusted and they tore apart. As I was driving I hit a regular bump in the road. I was driving about 35 to 45 mph on the way to work. Well it sounded like it hit pretty hard, as I was driving I noticed the trucks performance was lacking. So, went to work, got out of work and on the way back home I noticed the samething with the performance of the truck. It was lacking in a big way. As I was pulling into the driveway I heard a large clunck sound. The next day I had a prior appointment at my transmission shop. As the mmechanics put it on the lift "the rear axle dropped to the full extent of the shock absorber and busting their seals. Because the shackle broke it was causing the axle to twist while I was driving given the truck the bad performance, bad steering, and giving the transmission a pulsating affect. Also the engine lost the power giving the truck resistance and using more gas. So I am replacing both shackles, both shock absorbers, and the spear tire mechanism. At the same time I will be sanding the frame down, and coating all parts (cleaning and coating parts) with bedliner coating to hopefully stop the rust. The parts that I am replacing are also replacement parts because they are bolted on to the frame instead of riveted like the originals were. Also the steel seams to be thinner in the rear than the front and middle.

While driving I heard a clunking noise in the rear of the vehicle I looked to see the frame had rusted through in at least two places, the shock absorber upper mount had rusted off. The gas tank straps mounts were about to fail. I had replaced the gas tank feeder tube that had corroded off the year before. The truck body is still in very good condition but the frame appears to be gone. The truck has seen very light duty and has never been used off road. Since that time I have found many of the same occurrences on the internet.
