6 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 03/17/2025

Rear leaf spring failure at the front mounting point. This happened while the bed was empty and under normal driving conditions. The dealer would not say if this part would be replaced due to a defect because the vehicle was past the manufacture warranty. I will replace the part myself due to how long the dealer said it would take to schedule me for an appointment as I can not go without a vehicle for more than a month.

7 Suspension problem of the 2024 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/27/2024

I purchased a new 2024 Ford Ranger yesterday. As I was researching camper shells and truck racks I found that these common items cannot be installed without first installing a load bed reinforcement bracket kit to reinforce the truck bed to the bed side rails. Apparently, nothing can be attached to the side rail which weights more that 88 lbs or the truck bed could separate from the side rails. This is an design/engineering shortcoming from Ford as these are common after market add-ons for mid-sized trucks. Also, Ford is asking customers to pay for the reinforcement bracket and installation - which was quoted today at $1,600, and the Ford part is not currently available from the corporate us Ford website, and has not been available for several months.

8 Suspension problem of the 2019 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/09/2024

Rear leaf springs cracked, rusted, and broke on my 2015 Ford Ranger. Repair of one side estimate to be $1000.

9 Suspension problem of the 2020 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 01/31/2024

Presently, my mileage is approximately 42770. It has started to exhibit vibration throughout the cab. It wasn't as prevalent during the cold and would only last about 30 seconds, after warm up, and around 70 mph. Now that it has gotten warmer, it is happening after warm up at all speeds. I haven't take it to the dealership yet, but have read reports of the problem with the same model year.

10 Suspension problem of the 2021 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/17/2023

A few day ago I noticed a knocking sound coming from the read driver side suspension when driving over speed bumps. After a visual inspection nothing was found. After a few days of the issue continuing, the vehicle was taken to a garage with a hydraulic lift. The vehicle was lifted and a full inspection of the suspension system was done. What was discovered was a bit nerve racking. The front mount of the driver side leaf spring assembly was connected to the frame of the vehicle with a single bolt and nut. The bolt was hanging lose roughly 3/4 of the way out from it's original position and not nut was in sight. I checked the passenger side leaf spring mount and discovered that the bolt and nut were in place but the nut was finger tight. I was able to unscrew the nut off the bolt with no tools. If the bolt would have come completely lose and fallen out, this would cause the leaf spring/ rear axle to disconnect from the frame of the vehicle. The results of that could be mild to catastrophic. That would all depend on the speed the vehicle would be travelling at during the failure. This vehicle is factory original. No after market work/parts have been installed on this suspension. No off road driving was done on this vehicle.

11 Suspension problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/04/2023

The frame of my truck has rotted through. The strap that holds the gas tank has nothing to connect to, I think the tank could fall to the ground under the right circumstances. The frame has a large whole in it and I fear it will break very soon. I had to remove the spare tire because I feared it would fall off the truck. I had to replace both connectors that held the leaf springs to the frame, and was told there wasn't much left to connect them to.

12 Suspension problem of the 2023 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 02/20/2023

The contact owns a 2023 Ford Ranger. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front tires were rubbing while turning. The contact also stated that the front windshield was delaminating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with misaligned front tires and front windshield delamination. The contact was informed that the vehicle needed an alignment and the front windshield needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

13 Suspension problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/19/2022

So I recently purchased this truck thinking it was all safe, the pictures were too good to be true thats for sure, when I brought the truck back the old owner even drove with me knowing what he just sold me. The next day I was so happy so I get it registered and insured and I was so eager to hope in and drive around in my new "safe" truck I also went out with my loved one and it sickens me that the old owner was ok with selling me a not so safe truck and I could have died if the frame bracket broke or the frame cracked while I was driving but when I started to look under I saw the problem and I was scared I saw that the upper control arm bracket mount was rusted and the strut tower as well it had a hole forming and a crack on the strut tower. I also found out that there was a crack in the frame and I've looked up online and it seems that the frame and other components rust I don't know what to do. Im also a college student who is trying to get into the mechanic world and this scares me with how many trucks like this are out on the road.

14 Suspension problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/12/2022

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, an abnormal, rattling noise began to emit from the rear of the vehicle without warning. Upon inspection, the contact discovered that the rear cross members had rotted out due to severe corrosion. The contact also stated that the fuel tank was no longer being supported due to the failure. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and deemed the vehicle unsafe to drive. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

15 Suspension problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 06/09/2022

The spare tire stabilizing bracket rusted away and fell off. The rear shackles for the springs broke on both sides, and is coming up through the bed. The frame has rusted apart and it’s not possible to bolt a new shackle for the rear springs on. The body is not rusting out. They used inferior steel on the frame and it has rusted away. They should do a recall on these like other manufacturers have. This is a serious safety issue. I bought this truck new, and it only has 98000 mikes on it.

16 Suspension problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

18 Suspension problem of the 1999 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/21/2021

I was driving to the store around 1 month ago and I noticed the truck was trying to tail to the side as I was driving. I thought nothing of it until my uncle bobby noticed my rear shock was scraping the ground. We looked underneath to investigate and found both shock mounts completely rusted off and the frame in terrible shape. The truck itself barely has any rust other than the tailgate and bed floor. Also thought I should include that the hose that connect the gas tank and where you pump the gas is rusted to where every time I pump gas, a little drips out onto the floor. I was trying to find videos on how to fix it but came across a page that says Rangers have been recalled from the years 1995 to 2000 because of Toyota starting to make frames for them. *edit* also would like to mention that the frame where the bumper attaches to on the driver side has cracked and now the bumper is sagging down .

19 Suspension problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 07/24/2021

Frame rusted in several places behind the cab at the rear spring shackles. Frame cracked both sides and bed is up against the cab and ready to break in two. Ford will not do anything. 145 k miles and the rest of the truck is in very good shape everything works except the cruise and is a loaded edge…. . Very upset just had a transmission rebuilt in it. Love the truck all the one I have looked at have the same issues over several years on fb marketplace and cannot find a good frame in any salvage yard. Didn’t Toyota’s have the same issues and they had a recall. Why doesn’t Ford have one? call Ford directly and they won’t do a thing. Tried selling as is and replacing but can’t get a buyer for what I have in the truck. Trying to find a good frame to fix it now, but there are none out there. Very dissatisfied.

22 Suspension problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 04/19/2021

I had been noticing some squeaking form the rear of my 2003 Ford Ranger. I thought it was my breaks. It turned out that the mounts for the rear springs had rusted out. My mechanic also noticed a hole, in the frame, resulting from rust. The hole is located on the inside surface of the frame on the passenger side just forward of the passenger compartment. Since the hole was discovered I stopped using the Ranger due to safety concerns.

27 Suspension problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 12/08/2020

The frame of my Ranger has rusted badly , causing the rear spring shackles to no longer be attached to the frame. Also the bed of the truck has rusted away badly. I I spoke to a guy who specializes in frame / axle repair . After inspecting it , he told me that the only option to repair my truck was to replace the frame , because the frame is rusted too badly to be able to be welded , he said the only other option was to junk it . The truck has 102,000 miles on it and is otherwise in good condition . I had planned to own it for years to come . Now I am afraid to trust it . And I would not feel right about selling it to someone else . I use this truck to haul hay to feed my livestock , but now I am afraid to load it up and drive down the road with it . I had the tires replaced and the service center noted on the paperwork that the frame was bad and needed to have the spring mountings fixed . . ,.

28 Suspension problem of the 2001 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 11/20/2020

Rear frame has rusted through. Rear driver side spring mount has rusted and broken from the frame. Rear bumper mounts and spare tire mounts are rusted out. Vehicle was stationary when problem was discovered .

29 Suspension problem of the 1996 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 10/15/2020

My 96 Ford Ranger has tremendous frame rot on the drive side at the front of the spring shackles. Someone had sprayed rhino liner like material on the rot to cover it up or to try to make it hold. The rest of the frame is in outstanding condition except for it being almost broken into at the gas tank strap and front shackles. I have replaced every front end part on this truck thinking it was in the front suspension. When driving it runs out of line from the rear and the frame is starting to bend.

30 Suspension problem of the 2003 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 09/23/2020

Body, frame and suspension have all been rusted out. Bumper recently just fell off due to rust (while parked). Doors won't shut completely due to rust, which has led to the interior light remaining on or periodically turning on throughout the day/night and killing the battery. Entire truck is one big pile of rust on wheels.

31 Suspension problem of the 2006 Ford Ranger

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

Left side rear frame. . . Where the rear spring shackle attaches to the the frame rusted away. The frame rusted away, no where else is there rust through. . . The leaf spring ended up being supported by the bed of truck. Spring is attached to the rear axle. Axle can become free wheeling at any time. The right side rear shackle attachment looks as if the frame is going to fail any moment . . . I can not believe the frame rusts away while the rest of the body is ok. . . . . A temporary repair has been made with a 4 x 4 bolted to the frame and spring.
