Seatbelt unlatches at random. Seems to be more likely to occur when it is hot outside.
Soon after purchasing the truck in 1996 I noticed the driver's side safety belt didn't seem to lock well when manually jerked. It has been an on and off concern for many years since then. Retraction of the belt has become almost nonexistent. Recently I noticed that not only does the driver's side belt not lock at all but neither does the passenger's side. As it stands any significant collision will result in injuries or death to both driver and front seat passenger. Please see similar complaint NHTSA id number: 976257. Thank you.
Driver's seat belt will not latch.

The driver's side seat belt buckle fails to hold.
No accident. My complaint is both seat belts unbuckle intermittently without warning. I am paying out of my own pocket for this default. The local Ford dealership claims my vehicle's VIN number does not apply to the recall. . . Stating both buckles were fixed before the truck was originally sold. I have a hard time believing that these belts were replaced. The costumer service manager said it is a coincidence. . . ?? I bought this vehicle for my teenage son so I am having them put in tomorrow. The driver's seatbelt alone is $250. 00 the passenger's seat is $185. 00 and labor $150. 00. I have never heard of cars/trucks having seatbelt issues. . . And then to be so costly. Just very disappointed.
Passenger side seat belt receiver unlatches seemingly at random while vehicle is in motion. The red button does not fully return to the top of the unit which may cause the unlatching. Bodily injury could occur in the event of a crash. There is a NHTSA recall on some 2001 Ford Rangers for the safety belt but the service manager of the local Ford dealership claims there is no outstanding recall or programs on this unit.
I was driving on a residential road, coming up to a third speed bump. I stepped on the breaks to slow down a little bit and my engine reved and started going faster. I hit the breaks and my truck spun out, off the road and stopped. The seat belt harness did not lock up; the shoulder strap stayed loose, and my head was being hit against the steering wheel. Then, somehow I fell out of the truck. This has never happened before. 05/17/13 I took my truck in to get the recall fixed, and get everything checked out.
Air bags. . Deflating, unserviceable, demand useless, only on passenger side, drivers side dislodged horn fuel/propulsion. . With fuel tank filled, first half(1/2) tank having excessive fuel consumed. Second (1/2) of fuel consumed at owners manual specifications of city and highway miles per gallon. Throttle pedal stiff, sticks, after normal daily warm up, extra foot pressure needed to dislodge pedal and cable, real sluggish as if not receiving enough fuel to injectors, even after regular maintenance completed. . Seat belts. . Drivers side hookup retaining latch malfunctions and " will not remain latched", several attempts need to be made before getting a strong seatbelt clip to latch locked on.

I bought this Ford Ranger as a used car about a month and a half ago. The seat belt will not latch into buckle. I am using the passengers side buckle for now. I am afraid I will strangle myself in case of an accident. I just want a replacement part and need to know if this part was recalled so I can go to the dealership and have them fix it.
Driver side seat belt retracting mechanism came apart and made seat belt inoperative. I bought a new seat belt and replaced it. Replacement seat belt did same thing 9 months later. Dealer replaced it free of charge. 3 months later same thing happened again. Dealer replaced it again. 3 months later it broke again. Warranty on parts is for 1 year so I am liable to replace it. I am concerned if they are made this poorly, will I be protected in case of a collision. The mechanism is held together with small plastic tabs that breakoff and cause the seat belt mechanism to come apart and not retract.
Seat belt comes unlatched at low speeds upon hitting bumps.
The contact owns a 2002 Ford Ranger. The contact stated that the driver's side seatbelt would unlatch erroneously while driving and could not be properly latched after trying to secure it again. The vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Drivers seat belt releases on it's own while driving. Happens at least 5-6 times while driving. Can happen right after engaging or any time after engaging. Does not matter if driving on smooth or bumpy roads, it will pop off. It happens everytime I drive. Have almost been injured from having to stop fast and was not held in the seat because it came loose. Part is going to be replaced when I can get one.

The driver was ejected out of the rear window and was fatally injured. The vehicle was inspected by a police officer, who determined that the failure was caused by the safety belt being separated. The cause of the separation was caused by the seat hinge failing, which cut the safety belt. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 197,500. Seat belt not latching fully most of the time and comes loose while driving on a 2000 Ford Ranger. Unlatches after pulling on the belt by moving in the seat. Continues to be ongoing.
While attempting to buckle seat belt, buckle latch did not lock firmly. Further investigation revealed that the latch would disengage with a light tug. There appear to be broken parts or foreign objects in the mechanism preventing proper function. Due to the manner of construction, the actual cause of the defect is not readily visible.
Under hard braking to avoid an accident the seat belt disengaged from the buckle. I have been dealing with the seat belt buckle not "buckling" with the seat belt for years. Looking online I see numerous people complaining of the same problem. Complaints of a spring is missing or broken, coins are stuck down inside the mechanism, etc. This is a defective design! I can only wonder how many injuries or deaths have occurred from seat belt buckle failure. Every day I get in my truck I have to wiggle the belt back and forth to get it to engage. Sometimes I just check after it has already engaged and it comes loose. The dealer solution is to pay them for a "replacement" item, the cost of which is around $250-300. . . I'll be purchasing a replacement. The only problem is that the replacement is of the same design. I'm asking for help to remedy a life threatening situation.
Driver side seat belt buckle won't latch.
The passenger side front seat belt has been replaced on this vehicle 3 times since Nov of 2003. The total mileage driven since that first replacement is 9023. The first replacements were for all 4 seat belts, prior to warranty expiration at 49,499 miles. Now the passenger side is failing again after only 2605 miles and Ford does not want to warranty the belt because it was replaced 14 months ago. I believe there is a defect in my vehicle or the seat belt design. I do not want to pay for a new seat belt only to have it fail again.

2002 Ford Ranger, seat belt come undone while driving. Every time I drive the car, it comes undone at leased 5 times a day while driving every day since I bought the vehicle. Went to Ford and they wouldn't even look at it. Just told me to buy a new one. . . . Which I couldn't afford, also the plastic handle on the tailgate breaks off every couple of years, and I have to replace it.
I have a 2001 Ford Ranger super cab 4x4. I was told by the delaware CO. Health dept. Childseat tech. That this vehicle will not safely accept a car seat due to the seatbelts being mounted to the doors. She refered me to your site for further instructions in the matter. Is this a true statement? what can be done to correct the problem?.
Drivers side seat belt buckle does not work. The tongue on the long strap does not lock into the buckle at the seat. I think this may be a recall problem with other models and/or years, but not 1996 Ford Rangers.
At about 6000 miles I noticed the vehicle vibrating when I applied the brakes. I took it in to the local Ford dealer in temecula and they told me the rotors on the front brakes were overheating. I mentioned to them that I never had a problem before on the many cars I've owned over the years (as I'm 54 years old). They machined the rotors for free but told me it was my driving. At about 11,000 miles I experienced the same problem. I brought it to the same dealer and after much discussion with the service manager he machined the rotors for free. About a month ago the car started vibrating again when I applied the brakes. I called the Ford hotline toll free number and they told me to take it back to the dealer that worked on the brakes and have them send them a report. The dealer still cannot find anything a matter with the brakes. Please believe me, I do not tailgate on the feeway and do not drive like an 18 year old. I've never had a problem with brakes before, outside of replacing pads and machine the rotors every 35k miles or so. At this point I'm not sure what options I have. Can you help?
thank you,
dennis cullen.

The seat belt retractor on the drivers side will not retract the belt more than a few inches. The remaining belt falls onto the door opening and gets pinched when the door is closed. This damages the belt.
Consumer noticed the front seat belts did not hold the passengers in their seats. The seat belts should be replaced for the life of the vehicle. Dealer notified.
While driving 45 mph consumer's vehicle hit another vehicle . Upon impact, both seatbelts failed, resulting in injuries; broken rib/ neck injury, cuts, and bruises. Driver hit steering wheel while passenger hit windshield. Front impact, vehicle was totalled.
Driver's side seatbelt buckle will go inside of retractor, but seatbelt will not retract. Dealership aware of problem.
Driver was involved in a crash where driver was wearing seatbelts, and airbag deployed, but driver still received head injuires, including concussion. Also, passenger airbag switch was turned off, but airbag still deployed.
The front middle seatbelt malfunctions when the occupant moves to the right and seatbelt adjuster slides down, which will not protect the occupant in accident. Also the torsion bar rubs against the brake line, causing a hole in the brake line, resulting in brake loss.
