While driving down the highway the transmission suddenly downshift. I immediately pulled to the shoulder of the highway and had to be towed to the repair shop. The transmission was replaced by an independent and not a factory dealer. A new transmission was purchased from laplace Ford. From what I gather looking at service bulletines on my car transmission problems seem to be a common complaint. My car was manufactured in may of 1995. It was a program car from the dealer with the remainder of the factory warranty.

Engine check light on the front panel lights up when car is turned on. The "od" or overdrive blinks when the car is driven at/or above 60mph. We took the car to the dealer and we payed 80 dollars for a check-up (Ford dealer located on 46-12 northern blvd,, astoria queens, NY). Three hours later they told me that the car had a malfunction in the transmission. Hence, the transmission had to be changed and the cost was $2,300 dollars. They needed to know immediately! I refused because the cost seemed to high and I wasn't completely sure if this was really the problem. I then took it to a mechanic dealing with transmissions only. They told me that the transmission had nothing to do with the light trouble. They weren't able to solve the problem not even by using the computer. I decided to take it to another agency (friend of mine) who knows about transmissions. He said that he had fixed many Tauruses before, but had never encountered such a problem. Finally, I decided call Ford to find out about this problem. They simply told me to take it to the dealer, which I had already at first. I took it back to another Ford dealer located at the opposite end of northern blvd. They told me the same thing as the last Ford dealer. After all this confusion, I decided to ignore the problem. It's been about a year and a half and I have been to florida and back already two times from my home (new york). I use the car on a daily basis. I am very upset and confused about all of this. I really want to know what is going on and I think I deserve an explanation the Ford company. I sent in this information to you people (NHTSA) to see if you can help me out on this problem. Transmission would not release from the park gear position. Had the vehicle towed to dealership for repair.
The car was not running smoothly after intake manifold was replaced by dealer. Dealer did not find anything wrong with car upon complaint. This problem could have resulted in serious injury had it occurred at a higher speed.
Have contacted cal worthington numerious time. Unable to resolve issue. No safety defect mentioned in summary.
4th gear failed, transmission rebuilt.
Reverse does not work leasing car have only had it for and half this should not be a problem already the car is only 3 yrs old. .
Transmission is down shifting on it's own and rpm's go up, engine sounds as if you are puttng it in neutral, but car does not always slow down. Overdrive does not seem to be working. Change transmission filter last year, checked fluid levels they are full.
Transmission is malfunctioning which may cause loss of vehicle control. Please provide further information.
Consumer experiencing problem with vehicle. Whenever it is at a stop gear shifter has to be moved back and forth before vehicle would move. Dealer notified.
Automatic transmission: transmission went out at 50,600 miles due to a faulty forward piston in the transmission. Dealer replaced transmission with rebuilt transmission at vehicle owner's expense. Transmission had not been driven hard or had not pulled an excess load. Would like investigation to see if more vehicles are experiencing the same problem and to see if a recall is necessary. Suspension: popping sound in front suspension when turning. Rough riding. Dealer said needs subframe bushings and struts (47331 miles).

I love my car but it has been nothing but one thing after another going wrong with it and having to work on a vehicle and make payments is agervating and extremely difficult and the Ford company will not admit problems or help.
Automatic transmission/overdrive is very hard to downshift when vehicle hits bumps on the road. Had been in the shop for repairs. Problem has not improved, but is getting steadily worse.
When driving at any speed vehicle isn't shifting properly and stalls. Also, and tire shake.

1996 Ford Taurus. Consumer states problem with the park pawl the consumer stated when she put the gear in park, the park pawl did not engage, which cause the vehicle to roll. The consumer spoke with her mechanic and he informed her a recall had been issued in 1996 for certain vehicles. The consumer went to the dealer to have the problem addressed. While the dealer did acknowledge the recall and the consumers vehicle was equipped with ax4n automatic transaxles, she was advised her vehicle was not included in the recall.
The transmission went out, vehicle had to be driven at 25 mph. Dealer replaced a chip in transmission.

At 61,000 miles a malfunction has ocurred within the transmission which causes the vehicle, when coming to a stop, to go into neutral even if the vehicle is in drive. Also, after stepping on the accelrator pedal the vehicle will jump, and proceed in drive. Dealership claimed that it was because owner did not change the transmission fluid, owner later discovered that there were some recalls for different VIN#s. . Et.
Consumer states in warm weather when the vehicle is placed in gear vehicle does not move. Problem seems to be intermittent. It takes 10-15 seconds of pressing the gas pedal before the vehicle goes into gear, forward or reverse.
