Power Steering Pump problems of the 1996 Ford Taurus

Dealer informed of a defective power steering pump. Informed consumer they would pay half for part and labor , which would be at cost of $500. 00. Consumer would like to know if the part was defective and why should she pay anything.

2 Power Steering Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/12/1996

The steering belt is not protected well, and when driving through water the belt gets wet and all steering power is lost. Dealer is not able to fix problem at this time because part is not available from manufacturer. Expecting part next quarter.

3 Power Steering Pump problem

Power steering makes a squeaking noise when turning right and left. Dealer has been contacted, and notified consumer that power steering pump was going bad.

4 Power Steering Pump problem

When driving over a puddle of water, the power steering belt got wet, causing the vehicle to lose power steering. Also belt slips.

5 Power Steering Pump problem

While making a right turn and going over some water in the road which hit the power steering belt, causing the vehicle to lose power steering control. Please give any further details.
