Brake Light problems of the 2000 Ford Taurus

Started to smell burned wires in car. Look under dash and smoke and wires where burned. Brake lights dont work. Reading online and other issue with this car and people where having same issue. When I called dealer they said theres nothing they can do because they are no more recalls on that. But I think this is a safety issue and can cause great danger.

The brake lights not actuate and not be able the shift out of park is.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Taurus. The contact observed that his brake lights weren't operating normally. While the vehicle was being serviced the dealer also observed that the brake lights were inoperable. The current mileage was 75,000 and the failure mileage was 70,000.

While braking, the rear brake tail lights fail to work. The dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined.

Brake lights went out. As a result vehicle locked itself in park. Dealer notified. The vehicle brake light went out and as a result the shift lever could not be moved from the park position. The consumer stated that this feature was not referenced in the owner's manual nor was there any indication on the dash that there was a failure. Consumer couldn't believe this feature wasn't addressed in the owner's manual. A Ford service representative stated the safety feature wasn't in the manual because Ford thought it was in the best interest of the consumer not to mention the locking in park feature.

2000 Ford Taurus, brake lamp switch always stays on. Nhtsa shows that there was a recall for this problem. Ford would not honor the recall on my car and replace the faulty brake switch, dealer said my car was not one of the 157,000 cars effected. So I had to pay $213. 00 to have them replace the faulty brake switch that was a problem listed as a recall on NHTSA. Nhtsa recall no. 01v078/Ford recall no. 01s08.

The brake system in our car has not performed properly on wet roads many times. On Jan 21st, 2002 and Mar 13th, 2002, we asked muzi Ford to fix this problem. They could not find the problem. They reported, it is common to confuse abs activation with difficulty stopping". In fact, our car is not equipped with abs. On the morning of Jan 17th, 2003, my husband was driving in the slow lane of I-95; the car in front of our car came to a sudden stop. He immediately braked. He was still far away, and the speed was only 45-50 mph, the road was wet and our cars brake system did not work properly and it hit the front car. There are many problems with our car. The emergency brake on/off has been adjusted, the transmission fluid and both front axle seal have leaked twice; steeling fluid has leaked once, the brake light, gas cap assembly and solenoid canister have been replace, and the wiper motor park switch has been recalled. Please help us to solve the brake system problem with Ford motor company. Note: did not count as crash for rq03008 since crash was not due to brake light issue.

Brake lights would not go off even when car would be shut off this is the replacement switch from a earlier recall. The car now has its 3rd switch. Dealer said it's not un expected for the switch to fail and it is the customers responsibility to replace it since they did the recall one the cost was 105. 34. Dt.

Consumer had recall 01v078000 repairs for the brake lamp switch. However, after recall repairs, vehicle would get stuck in park. Dealer replaced stop lamp switch again.

Brake lights stay on all day, causing vehicle to stay in park.

Vehicle will not come out of park. Vehicle was towed to a dealer. Secondly, brake lights will not shut off.

Brake switch had a loose wire per gateway Lincoln/Mercury mechanic and was replaced under warranty. Driver could not shift out of park. No brake lights were operational. Fortunately this did not occur while driving or vehicle would have been stranded in the road or potential rear end collision from failure of brake lights to illuminate while slowing or stopping.

Consumer contacted dealer for recall 01v78000/ manufacturer's recall 01s08. Parts haven't been available since March. Dealer kept telling consumer to call back, and that parts were being shipped.

The brake lights stay on constantly. Lights remain on when the car is off. The brake lights are providing no protection but, no accident has occurred, yet. The repair shop is very familiar with the failure. The shop reported that a few 2000 Taurus and sable's have had failures with this part. A car was in the shop waiting for the part for 5 days when my wife brought our car in for repairs. The part is still on backorder from Ford, again suggesting a high use item.

While in motion consumer tried to stop the vehicle by braking, the engine started to race. The harder consumer pressed the faster the engine raced. A recall notice was sent to consumer. (02v266) also, recall number 01v078 was sent to consumer about a stop lamp switch failure. Consumer had a previous encounter with this failure before the recall was sent.

When driving betwwen 45 mph-65 mph steering will vibrate/ it will shake. Also, vibration can be felt inside the vehicle. Dealer claimed defect was due to tire problem. But, dealer has balanced tires 4 times, and replaced all 4 tires, and vibration still occurs. In addition, brake light has become stuck and will not turn off.

The brake lights were on constantly. The consumer felt it had something to do with the brake pedal assembly.

Brake lights malfunctioned.
