Back springs broke.
I don't know what lead up to the failure of my strut springs on my 2001 Ford Taurus. I had not hit any potholes, had any extreme weight in the back, or any other issues that could have caused this to happen. I am a fairly good driver with a great driving record. Upon replacing my back brakes I was told about my strut springs being broke and they needed to be fixed immediately. The springs had not be broken for very long before having them replaced. The parts alone were $300 (not including labor, the springs are currently being replaced) and due to the broken springs I had to replace both back tires at $100 a piece. An alignment may need to be done now also. The old parts/springs should be available.
2002 Ford Taurus transmission transaxle light came on, took it in to dealership for service, found that a real coil spring had broken and needed replaced.

The passenger rear spring busted on my 2002 Ford Taurus while just sitting in the driveway. About 2 months ago the front driver's side spring busted while I was backing out of the garage (I already filed a complaint for that incident).

Our 2002 Taurus was sitting in our driveway when we heard a loud bang. When I looked the car over, I found a broken rear left spring. One end of the spring was about 1/2 inch away from the tire. If this happened on the road, the result could be catastrophic. We have not had the repair done yet.
Passenger rear shock mount failed letting the shock stick through to the inside of car beside rear seat.
2002 Ford Taurus left rear spring broke and punctured tire side wall making tire unrepairable. Right rear spring also broke but not yet touching tire side wall. I do my own repairs and the cost will be approximately $200 . Parts will be available if requested.

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus sedan. I replaced the front struts as part of a recall earlier this year. The spring on the front strut broke. A few months after I replaced the front struts, I noticed a noise emanating from the rear of the car. When I got out of the car to see what was wrong, I noticed that the rear of the car was riding much lower than before. I discovered that the spring on the driver-side rear strut had broken, as well. The broken spring had come halfway off of the strut, and the sharp, broken end of the spring was dangerously close to my tire. I still have the strut with the broken spring. I went online to see if other Taurus owners were having this same difficulty and found many posts on message boards outlining the same problem. I have now replaced the rear struts. Because the rear struts are almost identical to the front struts, and because they are subject to the same failure, I feel that Ford should recall the rear struts.
The contact owns a 2008 Ford Taurus. While driving between 30-40 mph the steering column began to violently vibrate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated that the rear camber was misaligned; which caused unusual tread wear on the rear tires. The failure could not be remedied because it was caused by the design of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 15,000. The current mileage was 31,000. The VIN was unavailable.

I have had to replace the rear tie rods a total of 3 times in approximately 2 1/2 years on a 2000 Ford Taurus. One of the three times was when the rear driver's side spring broke (which there is a recall on the front by not the rear). (I do have the parts from the spring repair). Luckily I was just backing out of a parking spot when the spring gave way versus going down the highway. Something needs to be done about the rear suspension. This is quite a short time span to have this many problems with the suspension.
2002 Ford Taurus has a broken rear strut and spring. I noticed on a variety of blogs/forums that this was/is a common problem and is potentially dangerous. I have not repaired yet and have not contacted Ford yet but intend to do so.
My wife was backing out of the driveway with the kids in the back seat when a loud bang occurred. It appears that the drivers side spring had been broken for a short period of time because it was rubbing a groove into the side wall of the tire. The loud bang must have been the passenger side breaking. The passenger side would have punctured the tire quickly if my wife continued to drive. I haven't repaired the failure yet.
Car appeared to lower in the back end than it should be. Taken to repair shop. Diagnosed with broken spring which was rubbing rear tires needing 2 new tires. Car has only 75,000 miles. Cost over $1000.
The back drivers side spring snapped and ripped a huge hole into my tire.
The passenger spring broke on my '03 Ford Taurus. I discovered this when I heard what I thought was a brake grinding. The brakes were fine, but the repairman noticed the damage. Luckily, I am having this repaired, before I got on the road for a 200 mile trip. The tire was being damaged and would have blown.

My 2002 Taurus' back springs are broken, like many other Taurus owners.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Taurus. The vehicle had a cracked rear spring, and the struts needed to be replaced. The current failure mileage was 43,958. There were no previous failures with the vehicle. It failed the NY state inspection due to the cracked suspension system. The contact stated that the 2000 and the 2001 vehicles were under defect investigation, #pe05054, opened on 01/24/2006 and closed on 2/5/2007. The NY state inspection department considered it a hazard. The current mileage was 43,968.
: the contact stated while driving between 60-70mph the vehicle veered to the left and right without warning. There was no visible road debris present. Upon inspection the dealership determined the rear passenger side camper toe on the axel was bent. After the dealer replaced the axel bar, the problem returned less than a week later. The dealer has not been informed of the reoccurrence.
