Vehicle transmission has hesitation, shaking problem and rubbing noises at 35-40 mph. Possible failure on the road was admitted by Ford service department. Vehicle was diagnosed with the problem at last service but couldn't be fixed because parts are not available. This is my sole means of transportation but I was told it may be many months before it can be fixed. Meanwhile it is a safety issue as breakdown on the road may cause accident. Updated 12/17/lj.

Vehicle made noise while driving on flat ground. Asked passenger if they heard the noise and they did not. Car continued to drive approximately 2 more miles. Car started to fail while driving uphill. The car made a revving sound and then stopped moving. Turned flashers on and pulled over to the side of the road. Scared that car would not park. Tried to change gears and vehicle went into park. Still scared so hand brake was applied. Called father and uncle to move car. Car had to be pushed backwards down the hill into a parking space at a secondary school. Next day, car was towed to residence. Vehicle will be towed to transmission specialist in February for diagnosis. Had to worry about getting to work to even pay for repair. Scared to imagine the cost.
I was driving my 2004 Ford Taurus and suddenly it jerked and made a noise'
I was on my way home not far away and did manage to get to my house into
my driveway but then it would not pull at all , the transmission went out completely. We are still making payments on this car that is even worse and it could have
been dangerous if it had quit in traffic on the road.

The contact owns a 2003 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while stopped a loud noise emitted near the drivers side front tire. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic, who confirmed that the coil spring fractured in half. The mechanic replaced the coil spring. The contact also stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate while driving in reverse. This failure was diagnosed by a second private mechanic, who stated that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was notified; however, the transmission was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.
I own a 2003 Ford Taurus lx and the transmission failed with no warning whatsoever on 11/23. Mileage is 71,000. I was driving on a rather busy road and all of a sudden I hear a noise and the car no longer responded even though my foot was on the accelerator. Fortunately, it was early in the afternoon and the road was not heavily traveled at the time. I am thankful for that. I was able to drift into the post office driveway and a kind gentleman pushed me because I was blocking the access road to the parking lot. I could go no further. Car was towed to repair shop but an estimate is not available at this time.
Driving a 2003 Ford Taurus sel down the interstate at about 65 mph, the car just stops. Luckily, I was able to pull off the highway with no mishaps. I had no warning lights showing, no check engine light on, no engine noises or slippage. After my 300. 00 tow back home, I had it checked out and was told the transmission was gone. The car has 108, 000 miles on it. After checking on the internet, it seems this is indicative of the 2003 Taurus - the transmission just goes without warning. It could have very easily caused an accident, and seems that with the number of complaints I found, Ford should have issued a recall.
2005 Ford Taurus se - sudden transmission failure. 65,248 miles on car. Traveling 70mph on major highway, passing another vehicle, engine suddenly revved to 7,000rpms and slowed fast, managed to get it side of road. Had only park and neutral gears. No warning light, no unusual noise, no previous issue with transmission or engine. Required a new rebuilt transmission, $3,000 expense. Luckily no accident occurred, no one hurt.

2003 Ford Taurus transmission quit in middle of my wife driving home from work. No warning light, noise, indication of an issue. After she got the car to the side of the road, and parked, she tried to engage the car in "reverse" and there was not a sound of engagement and the same when she tried to engage the car in "drive". This morning I looked at the car and everything she said is true. The transmission failing in the middle of her merging across the main road could have created a devastating accident if people didn't allow her to merge to a safe location at the side of the road.
2003 Ford Taurus transmission just stopped pulling. No slipping no problems what so ever then nothing. It only has 43k miles and I'm nearly 80 yrs old. I cannot afford to spend $2000 on a repair that should be repaired at no cost because there should be a recall with all of the complaints I have read for the same problem. It is odd to me that most recalls are for something stupid like a taillight may be prone to leaking but when it comes to life threatening problems it is overlooked. It is just a good thing that she wasn't hit by someone since she had pulled out onto the highway and made it to her lane before the transmission just stopped pulling not noise, pop or anything!! will someone with a backbone please stand up!!!.
I was driving my 2003 Taurus ses and was following a truck going over a railroad track and was going like less than 5mph since the truck in front of me was going so slow and when I went to press on the gas pedal to move forward after passing the tracks the car was making a noise when I tried to press on it more. And all of a sudden it just stopped at first than started moving again so I pulled over off the main road. The next thing I know the car just stopped and would not move whatsoever. I turned the car off and turned it back on again trying to move forward by pressing on the gas and it didn't budge. The car didn't even move at all nor in reverse. Everything else was running fine and there was no technical lights on in the car. Eventually I had it towed back home and found out the transmission was out the next day resulting that I have to get a new transmission. I've also found out that it was common apparently for 2003 Taurus cars to be defects for transmissions. This is highly a hazard on the road where a car just stops out of nowhere when who knows you can be crossing a light, railroad track or in mid-traffic where accidents can occur!.
Driving to work lost power in car. Rpm went up pulled over I had no drive no reverse nothing the transmission was gone no warning no lights, no noise just stopped. I had it towed to shop they told me the pump was out. I have been only owner and always maintained my car. It has 65,000 miles on it.
I recently purchased a used 2008 limited Taurus had 24000 miles and currently has 26,000. When the vehicle is idling in park a loud humming noise comes from the transmission about 95% of the time, brought back to the dealer and the couldn't duplicate the problem. But the car still does it. Ford has been notified.

The contact stated the vehicle was making a chattering noise when putting it in reverse. She took the vehicle to a local mechanic, they said there was a torn lip seal on reverse accumulator due to a defective cut on transmission channel plate. She contacted the dealer, and they did not offer a free remedy. Updated 11/30/05.

While driving 35 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the front of the vehicle. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to a garage for inspection, where mechanic determined that transmission needed to be replaced.
While travelling to work on Friday morning, December 5, I had just accessed interstate 65 north and had travelled on it for approximately 2 miles. I had reached my normal cruising speed of 80 mph when I began to cross the bridge over the tennessee river. On the downside of the bridge, I had no warning when all of a sudden my transmission ceased to function. Due to the speed I was travelling, I was able to coast until I exited the bridge. After approximately 1/4 a mile, I safely pulled the vehicle over into the emergency lane and came to a stop. I proceeded to check all the gears to determine if the transmission had completely failed. Unfortunately, it had. There was absolutely no warning to the transmission failure. There was no noise, no jerk, no anything. The vehicle has approximately 135,000 miles on it, and I ensure that routine service is performed on it. Twelve months prior, I had the transmission completely serviced. This complete failure came as a surprise to me as no warning signs were evident. Today, I am having to shell out $1600 for a complete overhaul of the transmission system. The company I have performing the repairs is known to be very reputible and told me that a great deal of damage had occurred within the transmission at or just prior to the actual failure. I was shocked when I found out today that others have experienced very similar situations. It appears that there is indeed a flaw in the Ford Taurus transmission system.

The steering wheel makes a noise when I turn right at times. I haven?t had it fixed yet. Sometimes my window on the drivers front won?t roll down. It hasn?t been fixed. The car wouldn?t go forward when you had to stop at a stop sign or light. The transmission has been fixed. The forward clutch piston had to be changed. I couldn?t drive it further as it wouldn?t go forward after I stopped.

Today, while driving at about 55 mph on rte 1, my 1998 Ford Taurus wagon suddenly starting to shake violently as loud noises like bottoming out on several boulders emanated from beneath the car. The engine continued to run smoothly and the a/c pumped out cool air, but when the car came to rest at a stop light it did not move forward until the rpm got quite high and only then at a very slow, herky, jerky pace. The car smoothed out at around 25-30 mph, but the problem got progressively worse. I noticed blue-gray smoke coming from the rear of the car and parked the car in a relatively safe place. I noticed liquid dripping from beneath the car near the rear of the oil pan. My husband checked on the car on his way home from work to ascertain that the liquid is transmission fluid. Without humor I recalled a woman telling me just two weeks ago that she had a car just like mine that she had to replace the transmission in recently, and I told her at the time that my car was running fine. This failure occurred without any warning. It was fortunate that I was on rte 1 and not on I-95, and in the day time on a hot sunny day and not on a cold, wet night.
The transmission made a whinning noise. The vehicle was transported to a dealership, and the consumer was told a new transmission was needed. Ph.
While traveling on the highway the transmission stalled and made a loud grinding noise.
Consumer states while driving her auto it begun to make a lot of noise. She took it to the dealership to have it checked out, and was told that it was her transmission that was making the noise. Consumer states she only has 25000 miles on her auto and the transmission should not be gone out. Ph.

My husband and I had the vehicle for approximately 18 months when it started making a grinding noise. We took it to the dealership who said there was nothing wrong with it. We then took it to 2 mechanics. Just low on fluid, no other problems. We checked the fluid before we drove it after that. The levels were never low. One day on my home, I had stopped for a light on a hill. When the light changed, the car started rolling backward. I put my foot on the brake and put the car in park, then waited for the light to change again. The second time I tried, the car jerked and lunged forward. I told my husband about it when I got home and he called the dealership again. We checked the fluid again, no change. It will go into gear if the engine is cold. But once it warms up, nothing. This vehicle has been sitting in my driveway for 3 years, taking up space and collecting dust. The dealership insisted there was nothing wrong with it and that there were no recalls on the transmission. A third independent mechanic told us the transmission was fried. It will cost roughly $3,000 to fix it. My husband passed away and I refuse to put any more money into this piece of junk. I also refuse to make any more payments on it. I can't sell it because it won't move. Ford motor credit will not release the title until it's paid for but won't come and get it. I can't take it to them. I want my money back, or I want it fixed. The dealership who sold it to my husband sold out to someone else and there is no record of us ever bringing it to them. Now what?.
While driving about 15 mph heard noise like a garbage disposal, then vehicle lost power. After stopping saw a lot of transmission pieces on ground. Took it to dealer for repairs. The manufacturer agreed to replace the transmission at a cost of $1000 since it failed prematurely. However, the consumer found out that there were 3 recalls on transmission for the 1996 model and was seeking refund of the repair cost. Owner was not notified of the recall.

Consumer was traveling about 35mph on highway and heard a grinding noise. She was able to pull over to shoulders, and looked underneath vehicle. There was smoke coming from underneath, and she had to have vehicle towed. Transmission exploded.
The car barely moves, if at all, when in any gear. Transmission is making a loud buzzing noise. Fluid was checked and is not low.
While driving, consumer heard a clanking noise and noticed smoke from rear of vehicle, consumer checked transmission fluid and found it empty, after inspection, it was found that a hole was blown in the transmission and the gears ripped apart, consumer is requesting reimbursement and states that this was a defective transmisison. Transmission suffered an internal mechanical breakdown, a failure of the drive gears that revolve at a high rate of speed inside the transmission housing, the result of this failure caused these parts to be propelled through the side of the transmission case.
While driving the vehicle at 15 mph the transmission system failed, making a very loud noise, causing the servo cover to blow off. Contacted the dealer for repairs, and did'nt get any help.
When applying the gas and going down hill, transmission makes a jerk forward and a loud clunking noise. The clunking and jerking has become progressively worse. Dealer has seen the vehicle, but does not know how to correct it.
