Ford Taurus owners have reported 346 problems related to power train (under the power train category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Ford Taurus based on all problems reported for the Taurus.
Just recently, my power steering started to fail when it’s in ‘s’ gear (I just started using it a few weeks ago). The steering wheel gets catchy and can be difficult to control, especially going around corners. It’s intermittent and it didn’t start until I started to use the ‘s’ gear. I had the power steering checked by a mechanic and they said it’s functioning properly. I do believe my car should be included in this recall before the steering goes out and something catastrophic happens. By the way, now that I’ve stopped using the ‘s’ gear, the glitchy steering issue has subsided.

I have a check engine light on my dash. I have several codes. I have problems with the car like the fuel pump, catalytic converter not functioning efficiently, steering, etc. I know Ford has problems with its cars.
Car will lose ability to accelerate, violently shakes. You can pull over, shut the car off then start up again and it will work until later. Throws a code saying to see owners manual, the owners manual says to take to dealership for repairs.

The location of the vehicle's transmission valve body assembly subjects it to excessively high heat which subsequently causes it to fail. The vehicle was purchased used with 35,115 miles and the valve body assembly failed at 58,344 miles. Since owned, the vehicle has been well maintained and always driven in a careful, safe and cautious manner. The dealership refused to cover the repair under warranty.

After exiting thruway after driving 10-15 minutes, car shuts off at a stop sign/traffic light. Notice on screen right hand side state transmission not in park. I put car into park then restart vehicle. This has happened three times in last 6 months. Taken to dealer and they cannot reproduce problem or when scanned, no problem shows up.
My 2014 Ford Taurus sel transmission when driving and when the shifting begins, the car shudders in 3rd and 4th gear, when it passes the 4 gears, then the vehicle runs smooth. I would like to report this because this is not normal for a transmission to do this. I do not believe it is a torque converter. Ford dealership said it was a torque converter. I took it to aamco transmission and had it looked at and the person that worked on it, he did not believe it was a torque converter. I had aamco to check this and all they did was changed my transmission fluid. The problem came back. I believe this is a defect in the transmission. I did some research and come to believe it is the body valves inside the transmission causing this problem. I am sure this could be a safety hazard to me while driving. I believe the transmission could lock up and cause a crash. I will upload the work order. This has been going on since March 2023 and I have no solution to this problem. I wanted to see if you can help with this problem and get it recalled.
On 3/8/23 I was attempting to turn around on a residential street. I put my car in reverse and started turning steering wheel to the right when suddenly there was a loud pop and my steering wheel tighted up and I could barely turn it. Ithen when I put in drive it stated rattling everywhere. I almost hit another car trying to turn in a drive cause couldn't turn. With in an hour the check engine power assist and traction control came lost blinkers and if I tried to gas it it would baulk I eventually got it home but every time I had to change gears drive to reverse it made a loud noise as if the bottom just fell out. My car has 5 recalls none have been fixed and Ford said my car had no recalls said mechanic but first lady agreed there was one. But they are refusing to fix it or even acknowledge that there is a recall. The mechanic was very short and rude with me. And then said to take it up with Ford customer service. I've only had my car for 6 months and now am out of car and in danger of loosing my two jobs. 64 of the 153 complaints all have to do with the exact problems I have with steering then the axel. This needs to be investigated cause had I lost power steering suddenly when making that turn someone could have been seriously injured if not killed. Thankfully I lost it while at a stoping point and was able to compensate for the lack of steering. However my back my shoulders and my hands have all been damaged due to trying to control my car. Who should I call to have recalls fixed since Ford is denying there's even a recall. I've emailed carmax no response and emailed Ford ceo but mail came back.
1. Failure item: transmission. Reverse gear fail. Available for inspection. 2. Unable to reverse vehicle in an emergency situaion. 3. No 4. No 5. No it appears from what I've found on the internet, Ford is aware of the problem that causes the malfunction in question. Based on what I've read it appears to be a manufacturing defect, and the burden of repair is put on the consumer.

Vehicle is now on 2nd transmission the original transmission failed around 60000 miles Ford originally put a brand new transmission in it for previous owner documentation was provided when we purchased the vehicle since move unknown where it's at now but this transmission has only 67000 miles on it experiencing same problems sometimes it will slip between 2nd and 3rd year other times it will slip between 1st and 2nd year sometimes they won't let it go over drive other times he gets stuck in overdrive no rhyme no reason for why it does what it does it just seems to do what it wants when it was but it really sucks when you're on the highway driving 75 mile an hour and decided to come out of overdrive and get stuck in 2nd gear so you have to slow down in front of everybody and it kind of forces you to do so that could easily get someone killed going from 75 mile an hour to stuck in 2nd year limited speed very quickly with no brake lights original transmission apparently has something to do with the torque converter or non hearted metals I'm not exactly sure because we were not in possession of owning the vehicle when it was replaced.
On 7/31/2022, and also about a month ago, my 2013 Ford Taurus limited stalled out while driving and the wrench light came on. The car limped along until I could pull it over, but this could have been serious as I was on the highway doing 65mph just 2 minutes prior to it. It stalled coming up the upramp here in phoenix. I got it into the parking lot, and gave it gas and nothing at all, the engine just sputtered as the wrench light was on. I turned it off for 2 minutes, and restarted and able to get home 4 minutes away. This is the 2nd time this has now happened, and this is a huge safety concern. Ford Taurus had recalls on the powertrain control module for other years of the Taurus, but I do not want to pay for this fix as this is a Ford safety issue for my model year 2013. I could have caused an accident on the highway if this stalled like this. Who do I contact to get this looked at. I can almost guarantee it is the powertrain control module as I see it online recalled and exact same issues. This car onl has 70k miles on it and in great condition, serviced all the time. Please let me know whom I may contact to resolve this safety issue? should I call my local Ford dealership, but I think they charge $200 for scan of the car. Thank yo for your time. On 4 separate occassions, my 2009 Ford Taurus limited automatic transmission dropped out of gear while I was accelerating slowly away from a stop the times they have occurred is from a stop sign into traffic. It dropped out of gear at about 5 mph and made a growling noise. . I put my foot on the brake. When I started it again everything worked fine. . I was leaving a parking lot and I had reached a speed of 5-15 mph when there was no longer any gear, then it slammed into gear for a moment, went a few feet, then dropped out again, then slammed into gear again. I was able to coast to the curb in a residential area and turn the engine off. Fortunately no traffic was coming. Another time I pulled into traffic and slipped out of gear iwas able to back up only and parked it. Then several hours later I started the engine again and had no further trouble. So far. I was checking out recalls and service bulletins on it today and I found that other owners reported similar problems. If I had been pulling out into traffic and my transmission failed the way it did, there could easily have been an accident. This is a very serious issue !!!!!!!.

Splines on torque converter stripped out causing vehicle to just rev up and slow down to a stop. Car never moved again, had I been going up a large hill or something this could have been very very bad, because it wasn't until I was stopped that I realized it was the transmission having problems. After a bit of research and $500 in parts. I did the work myself. I find that the material inside of the torque converter is way softer than that on the input shaft causing the torque converter to strip out? how do they not have to fix that? this has been going on for over a decade! why does someone have to die before they are responsible for something they know has a problem!.
The contact owns a 2015 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving in the rain at various speeds, the vehicle would stall as the "check manual" and wrench warning light would illuminate on the instrument panel. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer on two separate occasions and each time the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided a case number. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.

Ptu went bad with just 93000 miles on vehicle for $1500 repair. Initially sounded like tin cans crunching in front in.
2 different ptu's have burned up, waterpump blew up.
While traveling down the highway and without warning, we lost the ability to accelerate. We had to coast over to the shoulder of the road and there was no response when pressing the gas pedal. The vehicle then began to sputter and the check engine light came on. We restarted the vehicle and the check engine light was off, and the car responded when the gas was pressed. Later on I was turning through an intersection and again the engine stopped responding. I coasted very slowly through the intersection, turned on the hazard lights and sat slightly off the road. I restarted the car several times and this time the check engine light stayed on. I checked the code and it showed "throttle actuator control (tac) system, actuator stuck open". I looked on the internet and saw that many of the 2009-13 Ford escape owners had experienced these symptoms as well. This seems more like just a Ford problem and should be fixed by the manufacturer. Our car is a 2013 v6 Ford Taurus sel, that has 60,000 miles on it. This so-called limp-mode that Ford has in place is dangerous. The engine should not completely stop responding to the pedal!.
Over the weekend I noticed my steering was making a cluck noise from both the front and rear making the car very uncomfortable to ride and it kinda moves more left or a little right when on highway. I also noticed my check engine light came on. I took the car to get looked and the diagnosis read I have bad fuel pump line or evap dont know smell fuse of gas, gas gauge goes up an down. I was to notify NHTSA and to report this incident and whether to see if theirs any recall to my vehicle. Please and thank you.
My vehicle suddenly has a wrench light pop up and the car stalls out. Still runs but wont accelerate . This has happened three time to me on the interstate. Took car to 3 separate mechanics and no codes were coming up. The car always starts up after it turned off but this is very dangerous. I couldve been killed.
I bought this vehicle used from a lot. It had 2 previous owners and came with all the service history. I first noticed the vehicle seemed like it didn’t want to go into overdrive . It would get to about 70 mph which would have the rpm’s at 3k! the 2nd time or so that we got it to these speeds (on interstate) the vehicle suddenly clunked , steering wheel jerked , vehicle lost power - I had my 2 children in the vehicle and I was pregnant. We had to pull over immediately . After sitting side the road for a few , it crunk up and we rode out . Only for it to happen 2 more times. And this is not the only thing effected by this . Not long after I got it , I started noticing a hard shift / clunk / slam when going into gear and especially when the vehicle has just tried to downshift and I pressed the gas again . Due to this , I’m unable to tell when and if we can pull out into traffic and such. I must time it good in order to not risk getting t boned etc. Also, with 3 kids in tow , a vehicle slamming their necks and heads is dangerous and scary. So , I’ve had some work done on . Trying to help my issue. Apparently my issue is the same as a lot of others . Which is an intermittent issue . And apparently no matter if all the passed recalls were addressed. Or if the owners of the vehicle serviced it often and currant . Or if the pcm was reflashed , replaced etc - the Ford Taurus x will continue to have these issues . And these issues seem to be the same issues that were addressed in the Ford recall in 2020 ( which didn’t include the Taurus x) and previous recalls . This drivertrain transmission has been an issue for the Taurus x since forever . Please check into this. Last thing we need is whiplash or life flights from this .

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Taurus. The contact stated that while driving at unknown speeds, the service vehicle soon warning light illuminated and the vehicle began to violently shake and stall. The contact managed to coast the vehicle off the freeway into a parking lot where the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle and the engine was still running. The vehicle resumed normal operation prior to the failure. The vehicle was having a service check for the oil change at an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle, however, was unable to duplicate the issue. The vehicle then was taken to the dealer where a second diagnostic test was performed, and it was determined the throttle body actuator failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 38,000.
