Ten problems related to engine head gasket leaking have been reported for the 1996 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My 1996 3. 8l Ford Windstar slowly developed a head gasket leak after approximately 80,000 miles. My van is well maintained with all the appropriate supporting documents. I have searched the net and I have found the head gasket leak problem with this model is shared by other numerous owners as well. It is apparent that Ford needs to recall the 1996 Windstar gasket leak as they did on their 1995 model. Ford has implied the gasket has been repaired on the 1996 model. My van is a testament the defect on the head gasket has not been resolved. I would like to add my complaint to your list and hopefully force Ford to extend the recall to the 1996 model as well.
96 Windstar had failed NJ state inspection but was running fine. Vehicle has 109,000 miles and dealer informed me it has leaking head gaskets. Dealer will not accept any responsibility for problem. Vehicle has been serviced at this dealer for about 3 years and no mention was ever made about the potential for this problem even though it is quite apparent that this is a latent defect at least until the 1997 year. Factory campaigns were in place through 95 and problem was reduced on 96 vehicles but still existed.
This vehicle has not yet been repaired! the 1996 Windstar 3. 8 litre v-6 engine has head gasket leaks. I am not driving the vehicle until Ford agrees to pay for the repair. Ford did pay for repairs to '94 & '95 Windstar owners, but has not and will not pay for the '96 models. The vehicle emits clouds of white smoke and consumes antifreeze. The local Ford dealership acknowledges the problems with this model, but states that Ford will reject claims on it.
Vehicle was starting to miss, and gasket was leaking water into oil pan. Please provide any further information.
Consumer took car into dealer's shop for a broken speedometer, and mechanic noticed a head gasket leak. Alerted consumer to some recalls on those vehicles, but they had a different year.
At the 90,000 checkup the mechanic said our timing cover gasket is leaking and antifreeze is coming through. If it is not fixed whole engine will seize up. Sounds like the problems of the 1995!.
Leaking antifreeze at timing cover gasket. Windstars have become known for head and timing cover gasket leaks. Repairs estimated to be $700 - $900 to replace a $7 gasket which Ford knows it has a problem. Ford should be made to reimburse customers expenses and issue recall on other affected vehicles. Fords customer service needs attention. Problem started in early October 2000 with loss of heat for heater operation. I noticed antifreeze level was low and refilled. Heat returned. Vehicle was under extended warranty until November 2000. About mid November noticed antifreeze leaking onto driveway. Gilboy Ford has confirmed timing cover gasket leak. I am on full time disability and feel Ford should be footing the bill for this repair. Thank you for you assistance.
Head gasket leaking, master cylinder froze up and caused smoke and damage to brake system on 3 wheels, abs light kept coming on, in for repairs on several occasions and light was disconnected by dealer, engine light O2 sensor replaced, speedometer failed to register speeds, driverside window goes down while driving, replaced by dealer, door open light turns on randomly, sliding door fails to lock with electric locks. What is going to be next?.
Leak in gasket for timing chain cover not covered under warranty because I am not the original owner.
Engine head gaskets are leaking oil onto engine. Manufacturer has been notified.
