Three problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 1998 Ford Windstar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Vehicle rolled backwards while parked on a slight incline. In an attempt to stop vehicle, one of consumer's fingers was severed, and three badly injured. This occurred when consumer tried to open the door to enter the moving vehicle. Consumer spent nine days in the hospital and has to go for treatment once a week.
While parked in park gear, vehicle jumped into reverse and rolled into a bush causing damage.
When keys were removed from ignition and vehicle placed in park, vehicle then rolled down hill without warning. Problem seems to be intermittent.
