Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that NHTSA campaign number 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) was performed however the failure was not corrected. The contact noticed that the brake fluid was consuming prematurely an authorized mechanic inspected the vehicle and found that the brake fluid was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000. Li.
The brake light comes on. The brake fluid is low. Filled the fluid up. A week later same thing happens. I could not find a leak. Finding a puddle of brake fluid under the van I had to make a better effort to find the leak. The leak is coming from the brake pressure differential deactivation switch. I wen to this site to find out more information about this problem. . Read more...
Brake pressure differential deactivation switch is leaking fluid.
I purchased a 2000 Ford Windstar. N 4/6/13, I was going 20 mph and the brakes were failing, I pulled into lentz. They repaired everything I could think of. After having my brakes completely repaired the brakes failed again. Bring it back to lentz, with thousands of apologies and promises to fix it right. They repaired even more of the brake system. . The brakes abs system light still comes on, brakes seem to not work ok. So I bring to Ford to have the recalls checked. They said that my master cylinder was leaking again and explained to me that this was a recall from before, and that they already installed a jumper and fuse for it so it wont fail or leak. But apparently it's still leaking and faulting out. So I asked them to fix it, they would not. I called corporate, and they will not budge. Ford will not fix it because they claim it has already been worked on that particular recall and they said they don't "redo" recall work. So that being said they told me, I would be safe driving it like this. That it's no biggie and it wont hurt anything if brake fluid is leaking a little tiny bit by the switch. I am a single mom with kids. I bought it then I put over 2650 dollars so far into this stupid van. Everything has gone wrong. From front axle to brakes, to no heat, electrical crazy stuff going on. Of course they never find it or it apparently don't act up when they test it all. I'm terrified to drive this van. Absolutely terrified of it. They even told me to "be careful, as it may catch on fire by the master cylinder" after telling me they dont redo old recalls!! I guess they put a bracket kit on the front subframe as part of recall but now it has more play int he wheel, I feel like I have to really steer to keep it in between the lines. They should fix my cylinder abs problem no matter what its their manufacturing defect. ! tons of other safety problems with this van too.
As is typical with the Windstar, the deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid. Thus, causing problems with the abs and cruise. Unfortunately, Ford already honored the recall (09s09) on this vehicle. At that time the deactivation switch was not leaking so they installed a wire harness to avoid a fire when it did start leaking. (why put on a wire harness? because they knew the switch was going to fail. Why not just replace the switch in the first place?) now Ford will not re-open the recall to replace the switch and fix the other related problems.
Last week as I was driving around town and my instrument panel stopped working and the abs lights would not turn off. The next morning I had to take my son to one of his activities and the instrument panel was still not working and I noticed I had to push the brake pedal all the way down to the floor. I went home and noticed that my car was leaking brake fluid. After much research I found my vehicle had a recall. (09s09) I took my car in this morning to have this recall fixed. This did not fix my instrument panel. After I got home I researched what the problem might be and have found numerous complaints about the same problem from brake fluid leaking on the some of the wires. I contacted Ford to see if this would be covered under the recall and they explained to me that the recall only covers that specific part. I am very upset because the recall will only cover the part and not the damage it has caused. I would like to file this complaint to make a record of this. I truly believe that Ford should fix the damage that this recalled part has done to my vehicle.
I own a 2000 Ford Windstar. Last year the dealership performed a recall related to leaking brake fluid and abs issues. This year I am getting an abs light on and a code of c1185. I was toild this code relates to a bad electronic control unit (ecu) for the abs brake system. This is the same part that the brake fluid issue was supposed to correct to prevent vehicle fires. The dealer refuses to replace the ecu as part of the recall (free of charge). The ecu is over $600. I am now at risk of fire and my braking ability has been compromised. I feel that Ford should have replaced this part as part of the recall.
The abs indicator light keeps coming on and going off intermittently. Once on it usually stays on until I turn off the car. This started during the summer about a year and a half ago. My mechanic said that most likely the ecm needed to be replaced to the tune of a $700 replacement module from Ford plus labor! my Ford dealer told me that the 09s09 recall work was done some time ago, but this problem with the abs light coming on continues. I am very concerned after reading up on recent information as it has been reported on multiple sites that leaking brake fluid reaching the abs electronic control module has happened after the supposed recall repair was done in many instances, causing fires and or the loss of the abs braking system working. I have also read many, many reports online about Ford Windstar owners having the exact same problem, without necessarily having a fire or brake failure. . . Yet. If this electronic control module is so consistently faulty, should Ford not be required to replace it at no charge to their customers, especially if there is the possibility of it causing a failure of the abs braking system?.
I had the Ford October 2009 recall performed (speed control wiring harness fire related) on my 2000 Ford Windstar, and prior to that there had been an intermittent abs yellow brake light on my dash. I have mentioned this problem to the Ford dealer mechanics, and they can never find a fix for it. After the recall, I still have the light come on intermittently. . Read more...
Ford company had a recall of a deac switch in which brake fluid was dripping down on. . . . I had the recall done. . . But my abs yellow dash light is on still. . . I am worried about the increasing braking distance or whether my abs is working or not. . . I don't want to feel I can rely on something that isn't working properly.
Leaking brake fluid causing damage to speed control.
Regarding the 2009-2010 perform recall 09s09 of the speed control deactivation switch wire assembly replacement. It did not work - it never worked, nor did it solve the problem. Within 2 days of the installation the abs light came on again. To this date brake fluid is still leaking into the component. It causes my brake lights to stay on upon stopping and turning the car off - which if goes unnoticed, it drains the battery. To this date the cruise control does not work. And it has also reduced my safe braking distance. I have very low miles on the van - less than 81,000 miles - so it is not cause by heavy usage. Ford has failed to fix the issue which is the leaking brake fluid onto this wiring assembly. There are many Ford Windstars still in use that are experiencing the same problem. Ford should fix this issue of the leaking brake fluid onto the assembly wire. Replacing this wire assembly harness did not and will not fix the brake fluid leakage issue.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving approximately 25 mph on normal road conditions when the brake pedal traveled to the floor without resistance while engaging the brake pedal. The vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into the proceeding vehicle on the rear passenger side. There were no injuries. The police were notified. The contact sustained damages to the front driver side and hood area of the vehicle. In addition, there was an excessive leakage of brake fluid. The contact stated that the failure was related to the recall under the NHTSA campaign id number 09v399000 (vehicle speed control); however, the vehicle was not repaired due to the consequence that may occur with the remedy repair. Updated 2/26/10 updated 08/11/10.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated she received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control) and received repairs at an authorized dealer. After repairs, the abs warning light would continuously illuminate sporadically. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was discovered that fluid was leaking onto the abs module. The dealer advised the contact that the repairs would be at her expense because the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall campaign. The manufacturer advised that the decision if the vehicle would be repaired a second time would be at the dealers disclosure and that recall repairs were a one time replacement of the failure. The contact stated that she did not experience any failures prior to having repairs under the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 11/03/10 the consumer stated the dealer denied fluid was leaking was leaking onto the abs and insisted the vehicle needed a new abs sensor. Updated 11/04/10.
I have just discovered that my brakes have been leaking brake fluid. After sending it to my mechanic, he found the leak to be in the sensor right below the master cylinder. After searching for that part in the autopart stores and not finding it, I searched the internet and found out that many more people have this similar problem. This is a family van and the safety of my whole family is at risk.
Braking distance suddenly increased. It seems that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (sw-6351) is leaking and fluid is making its way down to the ecm control module (2c219) damaging it and making the abs system inoperative.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The abs warning light was illuminated on instrument control panel. The vehicle was also leaking brake fluid. An independent made repairs referenced in recall campaign id number 09v399000( vehicle speed control ) at her expense. The failure mileage was 131,011 and the current was 132,000.
There is an existing recall (Ford) on many cars and trucks - involving the speed control deactivation system. Well, mine quit working a year ago. Since then - I've had to put brakes on the vehicle (more than once). I now have to fill the brake fluid reservoir with fluid every 2 - 3 days. If I don't, the brakes quit working. The pedal goes all the way to the floor. This brake system (and loss of fluid symptoms) are the same ones as the voluntary recall (leaking brake fluid - could cause a fire). I called Ford and they will not honor a free fix, because the vehicle (a 2000 Windstar) does not qualify (not sure of the reason). They also said that there is nothing they can do to help me. I have to pay for the repair (bad switch / leaking fluid) myself. My question to you is: why is the Windstar line of vehicles not part of the recall? Ford could not answer that for me.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. While driving 55 mph there was a burning smell in the brake area. The contact observed that the smoke was coming from the front driver and passenger tires; however, after removing the tires he noticed that the rotors were black and smoking. One week later while driving, the contact noticed that the speedometer and mileage gage failed to operate normally. A local mechanic determined that the abs was leaking brake fluid which caused the wire connected to the abs had a shortage. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. No repairs have been made. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage 110,000.
Faulty brake pressure differential deactivation switch under master cylinder on my 2000 Ford Windstar. I noticed a fluid leak recently and about the same time discovered my cruise control had stopped working. After doing an online search I came across the information regarding the problem. The leakage around the above part dripped onto the wiring below where it is mounted. I went ahead and purchased a new switch to avoid having a fire and to fix the malfunctioning cruise control.
2000 Ford Windstar brake fluid leaked and melted the wires we have to replace wires and the part that was leaking something to with the cruise control.
The abs ecm module has been damage from leaking brake fluid. There is no abs working and the abs light is on. It appears to be the result of a brake fluid leak and as extreme potential to catch fire. I know others have reported this problem. . . . It must be corrected (recalled) for obvious safety reasons.
We had our brake pressure differential deactivation switch leaking fluid which has caused other parts on our vehicle to have to be replaced numerous times. I have found out by researching that this part has been involved in several vehicle fires. And I just want to report that I also have the bad or defective part on my vehicle and it scares me to think that my van could have caught on fire at any time. . . The part was recalled on several other Ford vehicles but not on mine. . I own a 2000 Ford Windstar lx sport.
Brake fluid leakage, had to replace O2 sensor on machine. This causes a brake pad failure. There has been no accidents, but causes the brakes to squeal. I have replaced the brake fluid reservoir 2 times.
2000 Ford Windstar,,failure of brake pressure switch, leaking brake fluid onto wiring harness, danger of fire.
Abs light comes on after running and cruise control quit working in my 2000 Ford Windstar. The switch is leaking break fluid in the engine compartment.
I previously reported in NHTSA odi number 10242689 a failure of the speed control deactivation switch causing a dangerous leak of brake fluid onto the wires below. This has been recalled in several other models of Ford vehicles with the same year range (but not the Windstar) and was brought to my attention by the abs light coming on within seconds of driving. As a follow up, I had the switch replaced by the dealer but was then informed that the leaking fluid had also damaged the abs control module.
Leaking brake fluid from switch under master cylinder, leak rate is increasing with time. Similar problems found on internet.
Abs light came on intermittently, took it in for repair at a local shop and was told it was just a malfunctioning sensor, but that abs was still functioning. Recently abs light began coming on again on a daily basis. This time I took it to the dealer and was informed brake fluid was leaking at the speed control deactivation switch at the master cylinder. I was informed that it was very dangerous and could result in a fire and that my abs system would not function properly in an emergency braking situation. The dealer mentioned there was a recall to replace this switch and clean the wires for several Ford vehicles in my year range, but not the Windstar. A quick search found volumes of other Windstar owner complaints describing this very defect.
Abs light comes on, leaking brake fluid, cruise control does not come on.
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. While pulling into the driveway, the computer on the vehicle displayed "fuel error". The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the brake pressure differential deactivation switch had shorted out. The failure caused the brake fluid to leak onto the wires, which caused the wires to short out. If the repairs are not performed, it could cause the speedometer, odometer, and brake lights to not work. In addition, a fire could possibly occur because the cruise control is not working, as well as the power seating. The current and failure mileages were 82,000.
Brake deactivation switch malfunctioned and developed leak, letting brake fluid drip into a connector and causing it to short out. Found that this is a very common problem with the 99-03 Ford Windstars.
I have had to replace the brake pressure differential deactivation switch. This was leaking brake fluid in the engine compartment. This leak has caused my cruise control to fail, and now I have intermittent problems with the abs control unit. I believe this is a fire hazard and a design flaw. Please let me know if NHTSA is looking into this issue. My car is a 2000 Ford Windstar.
Brake fluid found leaking from hydraulic control unit of antilock brake system. Have had issues with spongy pedal feel since car was three years old. Dealer would adjust rear brakes which provided some improvement. Recently abs light would come on when braking to a stop down hill then would go out. This was traced to low brake fluid level. Investigation uncovered leak from control unit. There are a number of complaints listing pedal going all the way to floor. Wonder if this could be the problem? I am a hydraulic system engineer and have been fixing my own cars for over 30 years and have never seen a leak from an undamaged static seal in a braking system. This tells me that the hydraulic control unit was improperly assembled at the factory or has a material defect.
