On Sunday 5/20/12, upon starting our 2000 Ford Windstar van, I noticed that the speedometer was not working and the abs (yellow) light was persistently on. (however the red brake light that had been shining on the dashboard persistently for many, many months, even after recall servicing, was now off. ) driving for a few minutes, we realized that the air conditioning was not putting out cool air, only warm, and that the odometer was displaying only dashes. I should also mention, now that I have read up on these problems, which had seemed unrelated, but are apparently all traceable to a defective/leaking sdcd, that the cruise control on this vehicle has not worked for many months.
As I was driving down the highway, cruise control set to 60mph. My cruise shut off, my abs and traction control lights came on. If you shut the vehicle off and let it cool down, it will stay off for a while, but usually comes on within a few moments of beginning to drive. And the brakes will work, but I will not have abs or traction control at all.
My 2000 Ford Windstar van has frequent and intermittent problems with the abs light coming on and eventually going off; the cruise control not working sometimes even after it was repaired by the dealer; and the gauges in the instrument panel (including the speedometer) erratically malfunctioning. I have been told that these are common problems with Ford Windstar and may be subject to recalls. (even though the mileage is high, I replaced the transmission and engine with a brand new transmission and a brand new engine in 2006 and 2007, respectively. Only less than 50,000 miles on the vehicle since 2006. ).

In addition, the cruise control was inoperable and the abs warning light was illuminated. The contact was advised by his personal mechanic that the brake pressure switch, which was also the speed control deactivation switch, had failed and would need to be replaced. The contact was advised there was a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control). However, when contacting the manufacturer the contact was advised that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 119,520.

The speed control pressure switch in our Mini van caught on fire. There was thick black smoke pouring out from under our hood. Our cruise control no longer works. It is also linked to our master cylinder, for our brakes. This caused our brakes to stop working. We need a new pressure switch, and a new master cylinder for our vehicle. We were very lucky to have no injuries.
2000 Ford Windstar se. Speed control deactivation switch which is housed on the brake master cylinder is leaking , and has corroded the wiring harness beneath, rendering the cruise control inoperative. If this was not investigated, it could lead to an engine compartment fire, unannounced.
I was parked on a street in my town when smoke began pouring out of the hood of my van. I drove to nearest mechanic, who discovered that the cruise control switch had burned and was spreading. Mechanic removed piece (it is in my possession). Had to have van repaired by Ford but they said it was not on recall list (I have a 2000 Ford Windstar Mini van). I feel Ford should add my make and model to the list of recalled vehicles. They should also reimburse me for repairs and damages.
The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time developed a leak. This leak lead to the loss of cruise control. After some time it was replaced, the recall was then issued and I had the van checked by Ford. They reimbursed me for the repair I had done per the recall 09s09. Since the problem occurred I have intermittent abs light coming on while driving. It seems this happens especially in warmer weather. I can see on my van where fluid leaked onto some wires below the switch that was replaced. Ford said there was no problem.
The vehicle caught fire 4 hours after it had been parked. The fire originated under the hood on the driver's side. The vehicle is a total loss and has cost my family a substantial amount of time and money with no resolution from my insurance company.

Brake fluid leaked into the speed control switch and caused erosion on my 2000 Ford Windstar van. Other vehicles such as the Ford 150 and explorer are currently under recall for this same problem. My van has had the speed control switch replaced on 10/13/05. I believe Ford needs to recall the Windstar vans for this same problem or there will be vehicle fires on these vans as well.
A recall regarding vehicle speed control: cruise control deactivation switch was issued. The consumer contacted Ford and they said that the consumer's vehicle had the same switch that had caught on fire in the other Ford vehicles however, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to the VIN. The contact owns a 2000 Windstar. The speed control deactivation pressure switch for the cruise control was leaking brake fluid into the electrical system, shorting out other electrical components and blowing fuses. The fuse blew out last on August 19, 2005. On 8-22-05 noticed the leak. Called Ford motor, and they told him this car was not included in the recall. The consumer investigated this himself and determined this was the problem. His brother-in-law who is a certified mechanic for GMC a looked at the vehicle and verified that was the problem. The pressure switch and fuse were replaced. This restored operation to the cruise control, odometer, speedometer, clutch and a/c. The antilock warning light also went out.
Contact stated while driving 2000 Ford Windstar applied the brakes, but instead of stopping, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. Consumer did deactivate the cruise control switch because of the ongoing investigation with the Ford cruise control switches. The consumer did bleed the brakes, but this did not remedy the problem. The consumer stated the plastic film on the cruise control switch caused the brake fluid to start coming out of the deactivated switch on the master cylinder. The service dealer stated there was no recall on this component. The consumer contacted the manufacturer, they said they would look into the matter, and they were cooperating with the NHTSA regarding this issue.
While driving, the cruise control, air conditioner, radio, windshield wipers, power windows, odometer, and the speedometer quit working. The cruise control switch shorted out, causing these failures. Mechanic stated cruise control switch on these Ford vehicles were recalled and were under investigation. Sales dealer address was not available. This condition also effected the horn, in which the consumer was concerned because vehicle would not pass inspection without the horn. However repairs were made and the manufacturer and dealership were not willing to do anything.
