"check traction control" warning signal, break light, abs light, trac off light, and tire pressure light came on. Speedomoter stopped working, tachometer stopped working, vehicle would not shift when necessary. Local mechanic said it was a failure in the abs pump and abs electrical system.
When driving the van at 50 mph the yellow abs warning light came on, took to the garage , said abs system gave 8 codes but they couldn't pin point a problem, light went off on its own and van regained abs function , and now randomly the light comes on and the abs is deactivated.
Abs light went off. Brakes suddenly became less effective on the snow laden icy pavement. Temporarily lost control of vehicle.
Abs light has been on for a few days now. Took the vehicle to get serviced, abs light on panel and breaks squeaking. Reliable mechanic shop informed me that the vehicles brakes were fine and no replacement is needed, but that my abs would not function properly. I was told the abs light was electrical and that it would cost a lot to fix. The brakes have failed twice recently with brakes locking and no abs. After researching I see the abs warning light is an issue with this vehicle and numerous complaints have been made. Please make a recall.
The abs lights are illuminated stating that the ecu master relay is not getting power. This comes and goes.
Abs light goes on. Mechanics clear the error and cannot find a cause. It goes on again later. Goes off sometimes when you stop and restart vehicle.
The traction control and abs lights go on. Now the abs does not function properly when warmer weather. Reading only has shown the ecm has a faulty solder joint that wears down in summer. It is intermittent issue, but large safety risk.
My abs light is on and have heard it is from ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. It also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable.
Abs light comes on and appears one side trys to engage abs. Mechanic says many codes are displayed.
On 8-7-13 I was driving back home an 2 lights prior to my street the breaks started clicking when pressed and after a few blocks they started working fine. Today the same happened when driving downhill from where I live. I took it to have it checked because of the abs light and I was given dtc c1185. They said that the abs modulator needs to be replaced and they gave me an estimate of $950. I was looking for the part and found that I am not alone in this issue. Therefore I am posting it.
The abs warning light comes on intermittently. From research on the web, this is a common problem starting with Windstars dating from 1999.
Abs lights on dash comes on especially when its hot out. Brakes lock up when trying to stop fast. Was told its a defective abs control module. Ford issued a revised or updated module. Its too expensive to replace right now.
Abs light turning on and still keep on from since. One year before, the light is turning on in summer time and is turning off (at depend on the day or irregularities on the road). The problem ceases during fall and winter. I was informed that exist a Ford recall for that, but I will never received a letter from Ford. Because a lot of people have experimented problem with abs light with Ford Windstar 2001, I assume it is important to sign a complain for that.
Abs warning light comes on intermittently.
The brake system warning light and anti-lock brake system (abs) dash light turn on and off intermittently and will remain on until the van is turned off. Upon starting the van the lights will be off. I have had the van brakes inspected and serviced to include a complete inspection of the brake system with the removal of the master cylinder and system flush. Technicians cannot find a reason why there is an intermittent brake system and abs warning lights turning on and off.

My brakes and abs light stays on even after repairing brakes my abs system is not working, one day while raining I try to stop my vehicle and it kept on going.
The abs light and exclamation point light stays on all the time. There is also a scrubbing, dull screeching sound when I apply the brakes. I've had it checked out and attempted to be fixed several times, but neither mechanic has been able to fix it. They turn the lights off, but they come right back on. Please recall and correct this problem before people get killed. I'm afraid to drive the van very much.
Abs light came on and will not go off. Brakes have been checked by two different mechanics at different locations and they found no reason for the light to be on. Unable to reset.
Abs system light appeared on, abs traction activated in dry, non slippery conditions, will not disable upon reset and problem continues. Ford dealer indicates this is a problem with many Windstars, but will not fix without $200 diagnostic fee.
Keep having brake & abs lights coming on. I looked online trying to find a solution and was surprised at how many other Windstar owners were posting the same problem. I was trying to find a time and the money to take this in to have checked. I finally took my Windstar in to the shop today and they told me it was the abs module. They said they understand this is a common problem with this vehicle. They said the van is still drivable, only when those lights come on, the abs system will be disabled. The repair for this is almost $1,000 to replace the module. I believe it should be a recall issue because this happens so frequently.
Just recently, in the past couple months, the abs lights go on intermittently on the dashboard, warning that there is a problem. We took it to the Ford dealership, and they said it may need a new ecu or computer module, but they said it was safe to use. However, the manual says when the lights are on, the abs system and traction control are disabled. . . There seems to be a recall, but no one at the dealership mentioned any issue. It seems strange for a car with 68,000 miles to have this go out - we want to make sure it is not a covered item before paying $ 1,400 for a new part. Thank you.
The parking brake and abs warning lights come on intermittently and tend to stay on when the vehicle is warm. This vehicle has already had the recall 09v399000 performed on it so the lights coming on should not be related to that issue. It appears to be the same problem that many other people are experiencing with their Windstar vans which is a bad solder on the abs control module circuit board. I have only driven the van a few thousand miles since the lights started coming on so I have not noticed any loss of function that other people have experienced.
Abs light comes on intermittently, even in summer with no adverse driving conditions. It stays on for varying lengths of time, then disappears for some time, then out of the blue comes back on. Braking a little bit harder than usual does seem to trigger it. Also, recently, the cruise control just suddenly stopped working. It worked fine one day, then all of a sudden, a day or two later, I hit on, but it refused to set. I tried again on another day and it still wouldn't set.
I currently keep getting grunting/popping/moaning noise from the front suspension when turning -braking-starting to move car forward . Already replaced the sway bar links and bushings but the noise still comes and goes. Also my brake-&-abs lights comes on and off for no reason. And the locks on the doors work when they want too. Just had inspection done again 3 weeks ago but they can not find the problems. Talk with Ford about the noise to try to find out if there is any danger of a crash because of this and I keep getting the run around.
My abs light comes on and my abs doesn't work! also my vehicle has an issue with starting. It could happen once a week or once a month. It is so weird, I have replaced the starter, the sensors. Tested everything else and nothing is bad. Don't know what else to replace.
Abs system warning lights came on. Had checked out. Over last 2 years has continued and now the odometer stopped working and brake system problems with abs. Mechanic says faulty abs system again.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs warning light would illuminate at any time. A complaint was filed with the manufacturer, but the manufacturer denied any assistance with repairs. The dealer did not assist with repairs either. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 96,855.
The abs light has been on but no one can tell me why. It goes out when the vehicle is shut off but will light up again after about 10 minutes of driving. The cruise control would work sometimes and not others. If finally quit working all together. The fuses are all fine. The power windows and door locks work sometimes and not others or might work on one side of the vehicle but not the other.
I own a 2001 Ford Windstar. In August of 2010, I took the van into the dealership due to recall 09s09. They installed a fuse harness only. It appeared to fix the problem, and the abs light went out. Today, the abs light came back on, so apparently there's still a problem.
"brake", "abs", and trac dash lights are on most of the time for the past two years. When traveling north in colder weather the lights are off. Spoke w/ local Ford service rep. And was told to rr abs module if lights bother me. Otherwise not a problem as regular brakes ok but abs will not function. Just finished googleing the problem and found a description of the problem w/ the cause. The abs module circuit board is "securely" attached to a heat sink that expands/contracts with teperature changes. This expansion/contraction results in damage to the cicuit board resulting in an intermittant or permanent loss of designed braking assitance/distance. I have lived with this problem for the past couple of years due to the cost of the repair, as I imagine others have. The design/assembly of this circuit board is obviously flawed as the web site has documented. A question for Ford would be, "how many abs ecm inquires have been receved and how many have been replaced under warranty or at customer expense?".
This is a continuing situation: after driving a short distance and applying the brakes the first time; as the car slows to 5mph, the brakes fail and a grinding/cranking type of noise is heard; after a small distance the brakes re-engage and stop the car; very dangerous; the abs light then comes on and the brakes work normally* without abs controls. This situation happens every time that the car is started until the abs light comes on and apparently disengages the abs system.
Hi, I went in to the Ford dealership to take my car for a recall for a speed control switch on 2001 Ford Windstar, after 2 weeks of being there my brakes and abs lights came on at the same time, I told my husband he said maybe I need it brake fluid, we put brake fluid it was missing some but nothing considerable, that was almost at the end of the winter, the lights will come on and off as they felt like it, but now they stay lid all the time, I was looking online and seems to be lots of owners of same car has same problems with both lights staying lid always. Should this be a Ford problem or should I spend $800. 00 plus labor to get my car fix????.
2001 Ford Windstar abs warning light comes on intermittently with fewer incidence of low tire pressure warning light although all tires pressure reads 32psi when cold just had scds switch replaced under recall and was told had nothing to do with the abs warning light.
Abs light has been on for years. Took the vehicle to get serviced assuming brakes were needing maintenance due to illuminated abs light on panel and breaks squeaking. Reliable mechanic shop informed me that the vehicles brakes were fine and no replacement is needed, but that my abs would not function properly. I was told the abs light was electrical and that it would cost a lot to fix (don't recall the cost). The brakes have failed twice recently with brakes locking and no abs. After researching I see the abs warning light is an issue with this vehicle and numerous complaints have been made. Recall should be made before people get hurt!!.
