My abs warning light came on and the brake warning light was coming on and off. I took it to be repaired and a code showed up for an abs sensor on the front left tire. It was replaced. The lights are still coming on and going off and back on etc. . . I took the van back and a new code appeared-c1185. This code does not show up in the list of codes for my vehicle on my mechanics computer. My mechanic believes it is an abs relay malfunction. I called a Ford dealer who said his computer was not working properly and to call back another time. There have been many recalls on this model van and I have had many problems with it for many years. When it comes to brakes, it is a safety issue.
My Windstar since they day I bought it used has had the abs trac off and brake lights come on at the same time when first taking off after starting the engine and stay on until the next drive then they do it again ive heard of a lot of people having this same issue I think its time for a recall!!.
On several different occasions I will be driving my van and the abs and brake light come on. Finally today we were able to get a code and it is 1185. We were not able to get a code up until today because when you turn the vehicle off it resets the the lights on the dash. My mechanic is looking up the code to see what it is. This is scary since it has something to do with the abs or master cylinder.
While driving down the road abs light and brake light came on at the same time. This has happened from time to time and seems to go away and then come back after turning the vehicle on and off.
Abs light and brake light keeps coming on.
Abs and brake lights have been off and on for years. Have had the brakes looked at many times and they are always said to be fine. Today, while driving along, the radio went off when I rolled up the window. . . Thought that was strange so opened window. . . . Radio back on, closed window. . . . Radio off. Thankfully I was very close to home as the windows stopped opening and closing, radio shut off, odometer reading disappeared, clock lights disappeared. I made it to the driveway, turned it off and it did not turn back on. Came inside and started to search "2001 Ford Windstar abs and brake lights on". . . . . . I'm appalled at how many complaints I have found. Husband and friend did a check and it may be the alternator. . . . But after what I've read we will definitely be checking for fluid in the abs control module. If it turns out it is the abs control module (after reading the numerous complaints) I will be calling Ford to let them know what I think. For many, many years we let Ford service our van and I swear after each service we ended up with another problem within weeks of the service. I've not had trust in our local Ford dealership for a long time. Based on what I've read in the last 2 to 3 hours I am completely shocked and saddened that Ford hasn't stepped up and offered to rectify this problem. I love my Windstar! as long as we can be certain that it is still safe to drive we will keep it on the road. But when it is time. . . . . We will never do business with Ford again.
Just driving the van and it shows check traction control and my abs and brake lights come on and traction control off. It keeps recurring and do not know what to do to fix it. If I pull over on the side road and shut off the key and wait a minute and start it back up the lights and all go away for a bit. If I drive it with lights on and the check traction control on it smells like something is burning. So I have to pull over and shut it off all the time until the lights are gone.
Intermittent increase in braking distance in an emergency situation. Due to abs system failure related to the ecm control unit. Indicator at time of failure "yellow abs brake light" and "red brake light" on dashboard of vehicle. Resulting in interment operating of abs system. This becomes a large driving hazard when operating the vehicle during winter months when roadway is often covered in wet, snow and ice. These road conditions are typical for my winter driving months in the climate and area of vehicle purchased and operated. The cause of this abs system failure is related to the ecm control unit. Root cause is identified as failure of circuit board solder joints with in the ecm unit, deactivating abs system. Poor quality of connections, heat and stress , not robust enough for application. Need to have these quality and performance issue resolved by the oem.
Abs and brake warning lights light intermittently while driving. This indicates a very serious problem of failure of the ecm module that controls the anti-lock braking system a quick fix is to pull off the road, turn off the engine, and then restart it. This appears to be a very common problem with many Ford Windstars.
After repairing my speed controller my abs and brake lights have been coming on the dashboard intermittently and are coming on more and more. Took it to the dealer and no codes show up,but I do not trust it.
My abs light and brake light came on. I pulled over. Waited for the car to cool down. Light didnt good away. I have already gotten the recall for cruise control done. I tested and the abs system is definitely not working. Luckily, I grew up without abs, and know to pump the brakes. I am getting the c1185 dtc.
My abs light and brake light and tractoin controll lights are all on at all times nowand my speed domitor has slowly gone out on my 2001 Windstar sel the date below is an aprox.
Abs and brake lights are constantly coming on. Took to the garage and they tell me it's the abs module and cost is nearly $1000 to repair. I looked it up on the internet and this appears to be a very common problem with this year model which tells me that there is a problem with that part. I can't afford that right now. The garage told me the van will run with no problems, only when those lights come on, the abs system will be disabled. I believe this should be considered a recall item because this is a problem with that particular part. There has to be a manufacturing problem with it for it to be so common.
Abs ecm failure - abs brake light on (intermittently) as well as the brake light (intermittently) and check engine light (permanently).
My abs and brake lights continually come on and off and seems like a faulty issue with the electronics, but it renders the abs entirely useless when on. I have asked around if there was an official recall as this seems to be a common issue and was directed to report this on this site. I recently had the codes scanned specifically and there were so many triggered it was ridiculous. I was told that it's a faulty issue with this make and model and a repair would cost in the thousands. It sure seems like Ford would have a recall on this faulty safety issue. Sometimes the light is on when I start the van, sometimes it comes on after a drive for a little, but once it's on it stays on until the van is stopped and shut off. I've read that it could deal with the heat and/or corrosion issue of expanding aluminum plate. Based on the inconsistency of the light it would appear that at times the computer and abs is working when in cooler situations. It's been happening for a while now but is something I've been told that doesn't impact main braking so it's hard to justify the cost of fixing an electronic piece. . . Is there a recall for this that I was not notified about being the second owner? I picked a random date for the 'when did this happen' as I'm unsure how long it's been occurring but was an issue with my dad before we purchased from him.
Abs and brake light constantly staying illuminated.
Abs service brakes lights come on. Has been happening since 2006 90% of the time in the summer in moderate to high outside temperatures.
Cannot get the abs warning brake light to stay reset and/or fix. Stays on and cannot diagnose.
Abs brake light and brake lights turn on,usually on warm days, some times not for days, some times on all the time. The Ford dealer assures me the brakes are working, but the abs module is not functioning. All the sensors seem to work, but the system itself does not work. I have replaced the master cylinder brake switch, still having the unit failure. Brake lights are working, some times they lock on also, when car is switched off. There are no signs of leakage around the master cylinder. The abs module is quite expensive, and is defective, however Ford says it is not their fault.
Three days this week our van brake and abs lights came on in the morning and did not go off on my wife's drive to work. Two evenings the lights came on while running at normal speeds(55). The brakes seemed to operate properly but I don't know if my abs will function in a emergency. We bought this van new in 2001.
The abs and brake lights appear then disappear on dash. Unsure on the state of abs and brakes.
The abs light and the brake light appears on the dashboard even though the brakes are in good working order.
As you dirve abs and brake lights on dash come on stay on.
After going through a heavy downpour at about 20mph the abs and brake light came on. Nothing was hung up and it later cleared. We figured a sensor got wet but periodically maybe stopping quickly or even just turning off auto and restarting within 15 minutes may trigger the lights. They may stay on entire time of travel until shutting off car or they may just go away while driving. Not sure if it's a brake problem or electrical because my temp notification for outside temp also does not work and the gas gauge will sometimes report empty after filling up and also I have had issues where the cruise control can not be shut off by button. I must apply the brake to shut off the cruise control. The brake lights started back in 2012 but they all did not fail at the same time. These other things have been a problem at least since 2013. I have approx. 138,000 miles on the van.
The abs system have been intermittently operating for a while and cased the are to almost rear end a vehicle. Both the abs and brake lights are one when if fails. This fault first occurred around 78,000 miles. Replaced the abs module and the second one had the same issue. Ford indicated that they wanted me to buy a new part at >1250$. Not sure that it would work any better that the two I have or felt that it would not last.
Both of my brake lights, at the same time, come on and off on my dashboard. Within the past year I have had both the front and back brakes fixed, including new lines, calipers, rotors, etc. . And the lights still randomly come on.
Abs light, air bag light and brake light keeps coming back on while car is on.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact was driving 30 mph when the abs, traction control, and parking brake warning lights illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 122,840.
Abs brake lights keep coming on.
The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the abs and brake warning lights illuminated and that the brakes failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs brake module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 155,000.
Abs and brake warning lights go on resulting in the inactivity of the antilock braking system. This is an intermittent problem resulting in a major braking safety issue.
My abs light and brake light come on some days not all the time nothing wrong with brakes.
The date pertains to the first occurance. The abs & red brake light will illuminate. When this happens the vehicle has lost the assistance of the abs durning an emergancy stop. The dealers diagnostic report requires the abs control module to be replaced at my expense. This vehicle has less than 20,000 original miles.
Illumination of the abs and brake lights on the dash, they do not go out until vehicle is restarted, I have had the vehicle to several mechanics and none seem to be able to correct the issue. Recently the front brakes seem to be warped resulting in jerking motion while stopping, brakes and rotors just replaced 1 month ago.
A few weeks after purchasing my van I had issues with my brake light and abs light coming on while I was driving. It did seem to cause any issues and the lights when off ever time I turned my van off and then back on. A few months ago I was coming up to a red light so naturally I started to slow down when I tried to come to a complete stop I kept going. The perfect way to describe what happen, it felt like I hit my brakes on a solid sheet of ice. I could here the abs clicking and also felt the vibration in the brake pedal. That day it was 95 degrees and sunny. I almost caused an accident and the only things that stopped me was the emergency brake. It continued to do it every time I tried to slow down to stop that I refused to put my children in the vehicle. Last week after almost causing a few accidents I ended up pulling the main fuses to the abs. Since I have done this the only issue I have had is my speedometer acting up. I feel that Ford needs to seriously look into this issue. I have already had 5 recalls fixed on my van and this needs to be another one.
