36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2011

I turned in my Ford Windstar on to the john west Ford diler , the abs, and brake lights came on 3 days before to brought it for been diagnosed. 2 days after they gave me an estimate for $ 2400. 00 dollars. That really surprise me and I answer no thanks do not fix my car. They put my van together and since that moment my van I didn't start again is like a death . They said the pcm and abs module got burned. I think they made a mistake and kill my van pcm but I cant proved. I was reading the abs recall about and sounds like there is nothing releated wiht the pcm module. Any way they sent my van back home onto a town truck and at this moment a can't find the problem yet. Oh I almost forgot some for sure they charge me $ 200. 00 for diagnosis. If you want to confirm my history you can call mr; tony albaniano telephone #; 775-745-1889 775-747-6923 reno nv.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that after having repairs under NHTSA campaign id number: 09v399000 (vehicle speed control), the vehicle experienced major electrical problems and brake fluid leaking. The fluid leaked on the abs modules, causing the electronic components to have a short, including the brakes. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where the dealer advised that the abs module needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 106,000. The VIN was not available.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2011

We have a 2001 Ford Windstar and we had recall 09s09 done. Now we are having problems with the # 10 fuse blowing. Which contributes to no a/c, no speedometer or odometer and o/d light flashing. Also the abs light, brake light and traction control light come on all the time. I am afraid my van is going to catch on fire while I am travelling for soccer games. Please look into this situation. There are many Windstar owners in the same boat.

The abs and brake lights on the dashboard light up and stay lit. They will only go off after the key is turned off. It took several trips to the Ford dealership for them to diagnose these: perform q test abs system found multiple dtc's cmdtc c1185 abs pwr relay output circuit failure, c1194 lf outlet valve coild circuit fail, c1198 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1210 rf outlet valave coil circuit fail, c1246 rr outlet valave coil circuit fail, c1250 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1254 rr inlet valve coil circuit fail, c1446 brake switch circuit failure open or shorted to ground, u1262 scp data link fault, fail speed deactivation switch.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Abs brake light on brake light on the (mostly unserviceable) ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. It also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2011

The issue is caused by heat in the abs (anti-lock brake system) ecm (electronic control module) (2c219) module causing expansion of a large aluminum plate (heat sink) in the ecm which is attached to the ecm main circuit board at all points. The expansion occurs when the unit gets warm especially in the summer months and causes intermittent electrical connection in the unit because the fragile board is being stretched and malformed. The code most commonly scanned by professional mechanics is code c1185. Seen by us owners as a yellow abs brake light.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/21/2011

Automobile leaking oil and smoking. Engine, abs and brake lights constantly illuminated until they were removed by the dealer I informed him the vehicle would not pass inspection and told him of my saftey concerns regarding the same.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2011

The brake fluid at the master cylinder is leaking on the wires under it. Causing the abs and brake light to stay on. I am afraid this will cause a fire, due to the fluid being flammable. Now I have a repair to pay for that I have never seen happen in a car. I am almost 55 and been driving 40 years and this is a first.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2011

The abs light has been on but no one can tell me why. It goes out when the vehicle is shut off but will light up again after about 10 minutes of driving. 48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

Well my abs/ break lights have been on and off ever since I bought this van and I have keep up on everything that need keeping up on. Now I am having problems with my wipers and they don't work on any of the speeds but high and next to high and the other speeds don't work. Another problem I have been having is the electronic slidding doors don't always close or want to stay shut. The doors have even tried to open when driving down the road which is very dangerous considering I have children ridding in the back of my van. I have had codes come up on my van that sound like a manufacturing problem and I have had about enough of this. I have not felt save in my van since they called me in for the recall they fixed on it at dick withems. I still think it needs an inspection by the company and they need to fix everything that is malfunctioning due to manufacturing problems. I put my children's and my life in Ford's hands when I drive this van and if anything ever happens to my children or me I will be getting ahold of Ford, my lawyer. I think that when vehicle's are built they should make sure there are less manufacturing problems as possible. Please contact me.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2011

I bought my Windstar used from a dealership. I was soooo happy to finally have a safe and big enough vehicle for my family. After purchasing my van I had to have some work done witch estimated at 1,000. Mechanic said it was normal wear and tear. After picking my van up from mechanic, I was driving home and the check engine light came on. I had several mechanics look the code up and they clear it(most likley what the dealership did to sell me the van). Each time it is cleared it still comes back on,and about 2 weeks after the last cleared code my abs and brake lights keep coming on after only a few min of driving. I now see others are having the same problem as me. The new recall 01/27/11 I am sure that issue had not been fixed. I am pretty sure my subframe is bad too since I have been hearing a knocking noise for the last week. After reading everyone elses same issues with their Windstar I promise I will not drive this vehicle and I am not going to go down without a fight. Ford please note I will not allow your company to take advantage of me and put my family in danger for your money hungry company. You will be hearing from me!I thought I purchased a safe van and now I will be stuck in my house with no transportation! I will have my van taken to a Ford dealership and it will not sit for six months due to there being no parts!I can not belive their can be sooo many recalls on this van and Ford still thinks it is safe!.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2010

There has not been an incident or crash, but the abs, trac off, and brake! light all come on at once. Anti-lock brakes and traction control do not function when this happens. It has occured intermittently for about a year, but happens almost constantly now. The lights would go off after restart, but now come on almost immediately, and stay on in spite of a restart in cold or hot weather. The Ford dealership says their diagnostic code indicates a need to replace the "abs module" at a cost of nearly $1300. 00 with labor on my 2001 Ford Windstar lx minivan which now only has 60,000 original miles. . 59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2010

The #10 fuse kept blowing. We figured out that the switch was our problem and replaced that. Then we lost radio and other electrical components. Finally tracked wires to underneath seat to abs module to find that it was burnt up and had brake fluid on it. Not sure what we are going to do at this point since whole harness has to be replaced and is very expensive.

I also have electrical problem with my speedometer and gauges. I also have been having a problem with my fuel vacuum causing the gas to spill out when pumping and tank is not full.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

I own a 2001 Ford Windstar and approximately four months ago, the abs light and brake light illuminated, the "o/d off" light began flashing, the speedometer died and the odometer cleared. I no longer have heat in the front of the vehicle , nor air conditioning. Approximately a week or so ago, my husband had just returned from an errand and was in the house when he heard a pop and went outside to investigate. He saw smoke coming from underneath the vehicle and immediately removed fuses from the vehicle.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2010

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar that has problems with the "brake" and "abs" lights coming on 95% of the time. The issue has been checked by no less than 2 shops and both have determined that the issue is a faulty abs module. After some online research I have found this to be a very common issue and I believe that it should be investigated. The abs not working properly can result in issues when trying to stop in inclement weather.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

Had Ford motor company recall 09s09 that was issued in October of 2009 performed on my vehicle. Wire harness was replace, no leaks found, however the yellow abs and red brake dash lights remain on. Research indicates that the yellow and red lights on the dash indicate a possible ecm failure which has resulted in fires in several instances.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

Driving Ford Windstar van in warm weather. Abs failure light illuminates on dash on a daily basis in summer. Downloaded error codes; cleaned ecu for abs.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2010

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar sel which was currently serviced for the brake switch recall. Please note the switch was fine and no fluid was found on connectors. The abs unit in the van has issue with activation and deactivation primarily in warm weather. When temp exceed 70 degrees. Complete failure of the abs unit, speedometer, odometer, and emissions system results. The fuse located in the number 10 slot will continue to fail, and in my case wont allow another fuse to work properly until the temps outside are cooler. Here is the major problem in this when the fuse will accept, while I'm driving and the weather starts to warm up the abs ecm starts to expand thus creating contacts or breaking contacts inside the ecm. When talking to the service dept at currie Ford illinois they are completely unaware of the problem. This is serious safety issue that need to be addressed by Ford and included in their current recall. As I stated before, the recalled item in my case was in perfect working order. . I believe this is the heart of the real problem and this shouldn't have to come from the wallets of the consumers. The real issue is poorly designed electronic were place in their vehicles.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

The contact owned a 2001 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked it exploded and burst into flames. As a result, the contacts home also caught fire. The police and fire department were called and were able to extinguish the fire. The contact did not report any injuries. A police and fire report were filed accordingly. The manufacturer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The failure and current mileages were unavailable.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2b264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) developed a leak. This caused a short and a fuse trip, fuse #10 if the engine is on. This leak also caused brake fluid to wick down two wires to the abs brake module (2c219). The fluid accumulated on the (always on) power connectors for the abs brake system which are powered by fuses 101 and 102 and are both 40 amp. The fluid attracts moisture, road salt and leads to a fire when the fluid and moisture act as conductor between the hot leads and ground. Lights that stay on are: abs,and brake, od flashes. Speedometer and odometer do not work. Also there is no heat or ac.
